possible solution for delayed texts, poor data and signal G2x - T-Mobile LG G2x

hey guys i was very upset that i had to turn my Wifi calling in order to check my email, call or even text someone at home. i was looking on what could be blocking the antenna so i decided to take of my body glove, then i removed the back cover, then on the bottom by the speakers i noticed a piece of "tape". (mine was blue and my co workers was black) i removed it and turn my phone off and guess what, im writting this without using my wifi and my text messages are going through fine since i texted my co worker to remove his "tape/sticker"......can anyone else try this....ill try to post some pic tomorrow of what "tape/sticker" im reffering to even tho it should not be too hard.

I noticed that too, already partially damaged from the cover being removed before I even got the phone. It is indeed safe to remove?

i just send a lg rep what i noticed, so far i have had no issues, my co worker keeps texting to test and so far we have noticed a improvement.

Huh, interesting just removed mine as well. It is the really thin plastic that is used to protect something before it is sent to consumer, like what you would find on a tv or kitchen appliance. Guess they forgot to take it off or expected us to do it. I get signal at home so I am gonna report back once I go too school bc reception is there is awful and I am finally getting a bar when I normally didn't.

Nice post!!!!
Ok mine was black tape... i just popped the cover off pealed it off and laying in the exact same spot it was when i read this post i went from 2bars to 3bars.
Coincidence? Hmmmmmm
Thanks though, never noticed the damn tape....thinking maybe it did help... normally where i sit and lay my phone on my desk here at home i float between 1-2 bars, same place it has 3 now...

Wow thanks for the info! I too was curious as to the purpose of it, but feared if I removed it there would be consequences lol

i see it but im not touching it. just gives tmobile another reason to screw you over.

no, you still have a 14 day trial. is like taking of the screen protector that comes with the phone and have tmobile not taking it back because of it. besides a close source says it should be okay.

Really? TMo will voide warranty for a piece of plastic tape that doesn't say "void warranty if removed" just peel it off.... lol

im sorry your reply had a bit of a delay....lol what did you say

They already beat this up pretty badly on the O2X forum...

General consensus was any benefit was "placebo effect." I left it on my phone for a day and then took it off and didn't notice any difference.

Some damn good placebo then cuz i can assure you around all these servers etc here i've never gotten better than 2 bars... hmmmmm
thats it, i'm putting it back on and off and on and off and on and off and... ok i'm confused now...

idk, i have never seen another "plastic/sticker/tape" on another tmobile phone (i have 25). i mean i really relied on wi fi calling to do anything on my phone at home on my g2x. is been two hours now. if this has nothing to do then im wrong but in the meantime my text are not delayed.

Just noticed yer in houston... i'm in mcallen area... so guess this tape thing working for us must be a Texas thing lol

lol hahaha, i guess we will find out once everyone wakes up and try this......i have another friend that we will try to test again ill try to update with pics before and after

It seems odd that a thin plastic tape would affect signal, but I saw a solid 1 bar increase as well. It appears the tape is directly over the antenna.

Yep as did I! Phone seems better now signal wise, and true, data / sms / mms is behaving now? I dunno... maybe it's us wishing for better signal by removing tape so hard that it actually affected the earths EM field allowing for one more bar of signal.

and people with iphone thought the death grip wasnt real until they got a free case from AtTT.

Creaking MicroSD slot - Do I need to replace my Vodafone UK TP?

Just noticed theres a slight creaking sound every time I touch the area around the microsd card slot, with and without the battery cover on. Is this normal, or do I need to exchange it? I Too be honest, Im having so much fun with the TP Im kind of hoping it is normal so I dont have to go a couple of days without it.
14 day period is coming to an end soon (after which replacing it will probably be more timely), so I would really appreciate quick responses.
looks like its the same here ...
didn't heard that until i read your post and pressed on the side ... btw mine is an o2 (german) version with another back ...
Someone else experiencing the is reassuring. If a couple more users report the same I think my mind will be put to rest on this issue.
OMG people, this is not an "issue". It is normal. Every phone i've ever had with a battery cover creaked. If it bothers you so much, put some paper or tape on the inside and it won't creak as much or just not creak at all.
Doesn't bother me though.

Thing is its the Microsd slot area thats doing the creaking regardless of the battery cover being on or off, which is why I was double checking to see if anybody has a MicroSD area which doesnt creak.
Looks like ill have to live with it. Id be lying if I said I didnt find it irritating though.
My ATT Fuze does not have this prob.
Anybody care to confirm that this "feature" is a GSM exclusive which they all share? On the verge of returning it to Vodafone UK for a replacement, as this is the 14th day, and Im unsure whether theyll do anything about it after today.
Not even one reply? Is there a shelter from the Fuze explosion that all the GSM users are hiding in that I wasn't told about?
No creaking on mine (european version of touch pro) .. just when the battery cover is on (when pressing on sides)
i have 2 Fuzes they both make a slight creeking noise on the sides of the battery cover.

I was just unlucky or Captivate is so bad?

I dropped the Captivate yesterday. Because I had a silicon case and screen protector, seems like nothing happen, not even a small scratch. Hell no. After that the phone just couldn't send or receive any call!!! Calling from my friends' phones: just one ring and then it went to Voice mail box. Trying to call my friends: not even a ring, just "Call ended". Well, what was going on? I tried everything: switch the simcard to another phone, worked fine! Hard reset, flash back to stock, didn't help!
AT&T is sending me a new one (well, probably refurbished), but I just feel so disappointed with that. Only one drop! My previous Samsung Omnia has been dropped so many times, some times even the back cover and battery was out, but it still works smoothly!
sounds like you dropped it just right to severely damage the antenna
Man that sucks luckily you didn't scratch it up and they really couldn't pin point the problem and blame you

Dropped mine today will running to my car. It landed face down (yikes!) and slid about 5 feet (YIKES!!!). I picked it up assuming the glass would be cracked or at least nicely scratched or the phone would simply not work. To my surprise, the screen looks totally unscathed and the phone still works fine. I have some lovely scratches on the plastic casing either side of the screen which sucks but they are hardly noticeable.

I had my phone go straight to voicemail once, i thought that was wierd. Other than that nothing out of the ordinary. The phone works well for me including the GPS, which I know a lot of people complained about.
So I was probably unlucky though. Of course the good thing is the phone has no scratch, but that is what I would expect. I dont know if the drop affected the antenna, as I could still see at least 3 bars of signal. Just weird. Good thing that you guy, who have dropped the phone at least one, did not experience the same problem as mine. So I guess I can still love the Captivate though . Otherwise, I hate to see the chuckle in my room-mate's face, who has an iPhone

I hope that'd be one of those nervous "ha ha we're in the same boat now, mine came with a damaged antenna out of the box" chuckles. j/k
Anyway, that's weird that it still shows a few bars but doesn't connect.. Maybe you somehow shook part of the antenna's connector loose?
Well, I guess the silicon/rubber case should help a little bit to avoid things like that happen. I cant imagine how bad it was if I didnt have the case.
ive dropped my cappy numerous times. thank god it has the bodyglove (while waiting for the otterbox) which seemed to take the abuse well. i think you just got unlucky
yeah sounds like u damaged the antenna
I would try changing the similar card before anything. I work for att and a lot of times people drop their phones and as a result have no service and I just change the similar card and it works 99% of the time.

Yep keyboard changed sim card to similar card on me. Couldn't edit the post cause I'm new and I had to wait 5 minutes to re-post. By the way not all at&t reps are complete morons. I admit some are totally incompetent. In fact, the general consensus amongst at&t sales reps is most customers couldn't wipe their own ass without first confiding in an experienced ass wiper for a step by step solution.

That's because most people ARE stupid.
I've dropped mine once or twice but no problems that I've noticed. Not even a scratch.
The gray plastic and metal back cover mark easily but the black plastic and glass are very tough the Samsung videos prove that. But glass is glass and is far from indestuctable. Other than that I have completely disasembled my phone and it is very rugged. Not much room for things to break. A strong cast aluminum chassis backs the touch screen and strong feeling plastic back plate. Everything has good support. I've dropped mine many times without fear and have no ill effects.
My friends iphone 4 however has a broken screen and his insurance is $15 a month. Mine is $5. That makes me feel great about my decision to abandon apple.

Would you replace your phone if it had one piece of dust..

Just noticed a tiny teeny spec of dust... So small I hardly notice it.its not a pixel its just one tiny spec. Anyways the phone is perfect other than this, no reboots, no bleeding. Great.
Question is would you return it? I dont want to but my ocd may get the best of me.
That would drive me bonkers. If they'll take it back, I would. But knowing that most carriers consider a burned out pixel acceptable ( and not cause to replace a phone),I'm guessing that they would balk at replacing it. If it was me, it would be one of those battles I'd "choose" to fight.
Depends on you. Can you live with it?
Also, did one speck get in when the phone was made or will more work their way in?

That's exactly what I was wondering. Its so small and in the center kinda so I don't know how it could have got there after I got it.. But could have..
If it was in there I didn't notice it till now.. Its almost like after you clean the screen off, theres those few spots that you can barely see that is something sticky needing a finger nail to scratch off. So small but still I know its there... Well I got till the 18th too return it. Will see if any more come .
Edit: I guess it could be a tiny pixel the more I look at it. Some angles make it almosy vanish... Hmmm I'm not gonna worry about it unless within my return period it gets worse...
You would think if it was dust there would be more ? Or at least closer to the edges...
Meh... Whatever, don't see it on black screens thats all that I care..
If you want to return it just tell them your phone is freezing and rebooting itself after you tried multiple factory resets. If the dust gets on your nerves then you have the right to replace it. You paid for it. Personally I wouldn't because I would be afraid of getting a ****ed up device.

This is exactly what I'm afraid of.... This device is perfect otherwise and you really need to look hard to see it. I wouldn't be surprised if I gave it to someone to look for dust or a bad pixel they would miss it unless very thorough....
Thanks dude..

I totally agree. I always thought it was bogus that they could even do this. I've been lucky, mostly received new or looks new. But we've all heard the horror stories. I'm loath to return any phone.
I had a speck of what looked like cigarette ash under my screen. Then it was gone. *shrug*
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
Ok with the screen off very carefully you can see it in the right light angle..
So its a piece of dust that to me looks like it got there when made and its so small I never noticed.... I'm good thanks for the feedback I'm keepin it..
I would definitely replace it. If one piece of dust somehow got passed the supposedly sealed screen. Then more dust can and will find its' way in over time. I had that problem with my mytouch 4g. I noticed a tiny spec, then a week later more and more kept building until it was just horrible.
I have one to the left of the status bar. I know it won't be visible with 2.3 and it's black status bar so I'm not sweating it. I would exchange it if it were elsewhere tho.

Because of screen bleed there is an opening between the LCD and the glass when u look from the angle that's how it gets in I had on mine too after I used it for a week or so.

Thats definitely not where mine came from. Well more than likely cause the bottom I have no screen bleed at minimal at top.. Its more towards bottom of screen, just don't see that being the case.maybe some
Ok. So I couldnt stop looking at it even though it was barely there.
so I called them, told them I bought the phone out right 500 and I have dust under the screen. He said hold on, came back on the phone and said that they would exchange it with a 10 dollar restocking fee. I said BS, Im not paying that for dust under my screen, why? He said "because once it left the store we dont know what you did to it to get dust under the screen". I said, BS again, My phone is 9 days old without a scratch or dust around the edges under the tmobile cover its been using the whole time and that even if I was in a dusty environment that its not exceptable to have dust. I had a nexus, vibrant, vibrant 4g, hd2, touch pros etc. Im not stupid and im not paying the fee". He argued again and I said well then, it reboots too, I was not gonna mention that but since your hastling me it has a bad rebooting issue (it didnt but I read here and know what I can get away with). He then said ok well bring it in and will look at it.
So I get there ( you can tell they were expecting me) and he basically was pretty chill and returned it although another rep was trying to say I need to pay the stocking fee and asking the dude if he could replicate the reboots (ahole), and etc. Anyways they didnt charge me the fee and gave me my new device. While sitting there after it booted I inspected it very very closely. In a few seconds I found a dead pixel. I go to show him and he says " I cant see it, thats just dust on the screen protector". So we take it off, I look again and can still see the faintest pixel changing from gone to black while angling the device. I give it back and say yup, right there, (now at this point the other rep is getting mad lmfaooo). The rep thats helping me cant see it, I say what? Its right there, pointing to it, (it was very small but I could see it) he still cant see it. So I say hold on, then I go in the brower, find a i with the dot on top and put it right above that and say look right about the dot about the i. He does, still cant see it and shows the other rep getting mad. he then says yea he sees its, but they still are hasling me cause now Ive went through 3 devices (one brought back, dead pixel and now to get a new one. lol) So I say " what you mean burn through 3 devices like I chose too. I paid 500 dollars for this and im not walking out with a device with a dead pixel right off the bat". The other rep tells my rep to go talk to the manager. So that rep leaves. for a few.... LOL
As the dude is back talking to his manager, the other rude rep was helping a customer put on a screen protector. the guy and him are talking about it being a pain in the arse putting those on and dust always gets under the screen. So I using my XDA experience but in and tell the REP, " Hey bro, a little trick if your say at home is turn on the shower and let the dust fall to the ground, then wash hands realllllly good, then try it and it will be wayyyyyy easier". LoL. Then said "im kind of a phone nerd, I know my **** man"... He didnt look to happy after that cause the customer was really intrigued especially after watching me fight with them..
The dude comes back and says "ok, my Manager said its a judgment call and its up to me. My manager couldnt see it (are these idiots blind) but I know finally can so I will exchange it". Then said he cant exchange any more times (hell id refund then go down the street and buy another with a new 30 day warantee.lol). So anyways. I finally got a new device. No dust or pixel issues, lets hope I get no rebooting issues. I think it may have a little more screen bleed but that don't bother me none. If they would have made me pay the 10 dollar re stock fee I would have returned the device and went down the street also.... Jack asses. like im supposed to walk out with a dead pixel.....lol

Haha, yeah it's a huge PITA to get them to replace your phone more than once on the same day. Today I went to target to get mine replaced since it had a dead pixel and I also scratched the screen somehow lol, I new the guy would tell me that he couldn't see the dead pixel and would not accept the return so I just went into the recovery and formatted the system so the phone wouldn't boot . After I got my second phone i went straight to the darkest place I could find in the store to check for the backlight bleed and noticed that it way worse than my first phone so I went back to the guy and told him to look at the edges of my screen and he kept saying that he couldn't see anything wrong with the phone and eventually even told me that I was just being nitpicky and that he wouldn't replace it again So i figured Ill just get it replaced through CS until I get one with minimal bleed.

I paid 500 cash. Damn right ill be nit picky... Lol

please delete. i reposted in accessories forum

First off, i bought this because it was a $1 at the time while i was getting some cases and a other stuff on the off chance it would work. I've actually had it for a month and just barely decided to put it on today to check it out.
some stuff on this site can be pretty low quality. but anyways... I put this (making sure the part that says upside with arrow is pointing up) under my battery to the left of the white sticker with the serial numbers for my phone. and i made sure not to touch the sticky back except just on the edge. i used the cardboard that came with to smooth it down onto plastic.
now this seemed to maybe add a bar or less but that isn't what i liked. it definitely helped my phone from dropping from 4g to 2g constantly from low signal in my house. and in my house I almost NEVER can stay on 4g, we have a lot of electronics in our house plus we need another cell tower out here in Salt Lake (West Jordan) in my area or something. but my phone signal has only dropped down below 4g one time and went from 1-2 bars, sometimes 3 bars to 2-3, usually 3 bars consistently all day since i put it on this morning. this can't be a coincidence because i know my house and this is my 5th g2x and also my last vibrant all had a bad signal dropping problem. so try it out if you want, the promo code CELL7 is posted saying 7% off too. but try CELLSHOP or look for it on a page (they post promo codes in weird places) cuz i think thats what i typed in before and they gave me free shipping which saved me a couple bucks more.
im interested to see if this works for others. like i said though it more stopped my signal from jumping around than really adding a bunch of bars or anything. but for a buck its cool with me
the ad honestly looks like a bunch of B.S. but if anyone ends up buying it let me know if you have similar results.
http://www.cellphoneshop.net/noname144.html
im going to copy paste this to other thread for accessories. didn't realize i had put it in the wrong Thread. my bad. though maybe it's worth being here too?
I soooooo want to get MythBusters on this... does this stuff REALLY work?!?
seems to have for me though i googled the name and someone said it was a scam but i assume they didn't try it or maybe put it in the wrong spot. other people posted that it worked for them too so who knows lol. but yeah that would be awesome i love the show
could be that the battery isnt touching the back of phone as much now so less static or something causing interference?

[Q] Dirt Under the screen

Hey so I randomly saw spots and i thought i could just wipe them off but then i realized that they were under the screen? I don't understand how that could have happened but what could you do to get it out of there? and is it safe enough to do so without damaging the device?
Thanks a ton !
I also have a bit of dirt under my screen! But mine all seems to be in the top right corner. It doesnt bother me unless my screen is turned off or im in really bright sunlight though. I thought about taking the plunge and trying to take it apart and clean it, but i dont want anything to happen to my precious phone! lol
Take it to AT&T and see if they will replace your phone or at least clean it for you. I have gotten Apple to replace several iPod Touches because they had dirt and dust under the screen

That might pose a bit of a problem. Why don't you try calling AT&T customer service first. See what they say about it. If they can't do anything about it, maybe HTC can? But I know with HTC they always want you to send your phone in to their service place so they can have "a qualified technician review the phone". So if you are rooted and all that good stuff they might turn you down as well.
Or if you think you're up for it I would just find a few good take apart videos on YouTube for the Inspire (watch them many many many many times) and if you think you can do it, go for it. Just make sure you have the right tools and a few separate containers so you don't lose the screws and can keep them sorted. That way you can get a few cotton swabs and micro fiber cloths and give the whole phone a good cleaning.
Awesome I'll try that once I get home! Thank you... And I would just unroot before I gave it to HTC
