[DEV] Tiamat Kernel - Eee Pad Transformer Android Development

Anyone have an idea how hard it would be to port this tiamat kernel over to Transformer? built for XOOM and others, and the XOOM hardware is near identical right? Just a thought, this thread has the info and link to the github of the sources.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=978013

I posted in the thread if he could develop for us and everyone yelled me. I thought it'd be easy too. But I agree. I hope someone could port this because this kernel seems amazing.

Yeah, I was going to PM him, but he has PMs disabled, and I wasn't going to post in the thread because people hate that, me included. There is nothing more annoying in a thread when someone else comes in asking to do this all to their device. While this is a situation where at least the device internals are pretty similar, still not a polite thing to do. The github of his work should be enough for any dev here to port the work over pretty easily I'd think. We'll see though.

The hardware is fairly similar but they are based on two completely different OEM boards. Transformer=Ventana, Xoom=Stingray.
The Tiamat kernel modificationc could possibly be ported to the transformer kernel, but it isn't as straight forward and simple as you might think.

definitely would be sweet.. dual 1.6GHZ sounds pretty good
Hopefully we get some support soon.. I wish I knew how to do this stuff.

I'm not sure what it is but the forum for the Eee pad seem a bit dead tbh, is it just because of limited stock?

I sure hope so. I know R2doesinc is ordering one, he is a great developer. So we have another one on board soon. But I think it is a combination between that and that there are so many choices out there. I hope it picks up soon..

I talk to brd all the time. He also hangs out in the asus-transformer irc channel. I spoke to him briefly about of a few weeks ago and he was going to look into it but got busy with tiamat

I know netarchy is currently working on a kernel for the Transformer as he has a repo up and running. In case you aren't familiar with him, he makes some killers kernels for the EVO. Just fyi...

there is some hardcore douchery going on with sku checks.. I'm chasing variables all over the place.. I give up for the night.. this is like the xoom source, but again fuse data screws us.. I never should've opened this god damn box.. i knew i'd hate it. I haven't used it all.. I prefer my gtab.. argh.. sorry its late.. late late. still want to frisbee it..

Can't wait for the ability to OC

I miss IRC.
And I hope we get some development on this soon. It'd be a shame to see people sticking to products like the xoom, just because the TF is so limited in its availability. We need availability to pick up for this product.

Its not limited in just availability, its limited in 'mod-ability'.. It could just be the product maker following the guidelines for that particular board and making use of 'security' features specific to that board, but its still a pain in the ass. Work was put in to make the end user work harder to be able to customize.
I have the gtab (harmony), Xoom (stingray) , and eeepad (ventana). The gtab is the fastest, the easiest to mod, the hardest to brick.. and the heaviest with the worst screen. The eeepad is the slowest, the worst to mod and the lightest.. guess what .. best screen.
I am typing this on the gtab tho.. and I just got the eeepad today. It'll probably collect dust. Tried to play south park (originally avi/xvid/mp3) converted/muxed to mp4/xvid/aac and the Asus would play it... but volume control was not working it was full blast or mute. My gtab plays xvid avi/mp3 without a hiccup. Any other format I can throw at it too (sans multichannel audio and high profile h264). Its really surprising how far this has come. Since its oc'd every which way, it makes everything else seem very very slow. Only thing I haven't been able to get oc'd yet is emc.
Getting the ability and the clocks setup for the Asus was a breeze. Configuring/adjusting /making sense of all the bits and pieces of dvfs was not. speedo_id is a new one to me, and that seems to be the value that is read from fuse data and locks down max clocks

You guys got Blades and Netarchy on the case. You don't need me lol. I would LOVE to have Netarchy working on stingray.

Any chance of porting the Honeycomb 3.0 ROM from the Xoom to the G Tablet? Similar chipset (Tegra) and specs....
hopefully
I think we will see it before to long!
I would guess shortly after someone gets their hands on a xoom.

It's insane to me that people just can't seem to understand how forums work... Read first, post second. You are now the latest in a long line of people that have asked the exact same question. I'm not trying to bust balls here, but if you actually want the answer to your question a quick forum search would have done the job. Instead we have a useless thread....

Source Code should be coming soon
Since Moto wanted to keep the XOOM as legendary as possible (The UBER Official First Tab with a Honeycomb ROM) I say we should see a system dump/source dump coming juuuuuuust a little bit after that.

Has anyone taken the system images from the SDK and tried to cwm them onto the gtab?
I'll be trying this today..
The reason why I'm not too worried is,
1. CWM Backups are your friend!
2. Honeycomb was designed for the Tegra2 proc right? Xoom = T2 proc.. so most of the drivers should work, hopefully. (except the sd card, camera, etc..)
3. I didn't pay for my Gtab..
EDIT: Ok.. that didn't go so well. Reboot loop.. trying a new boot.img

Go to notioninkhacks.com they are close to having a rom they need two files. There isa post on front page read it andcontact them.
Forget the Xoom port, I want the Honeycomb AOSP. CM usually gets them earlier than anyone so I'm assuming a CM Honeycomb base will come out two weeks after the Xoom gets released. After the Honeycomb base, then Roebeet, Rothic, Gojimi, and (fingers crossed) Bekit can start cooking!
CM doesn't get access to AOSP earlier than anyone else. Android Open Source Project is what AOSP means and is available whenever Google releases the source to open source and pushes it to androids github repository.
Once the " Honeycomb" branch is pushed we can start seeing real progress...though proper drivers also need to be released from nvidia.
I suspect a Xoom port will be available before an AOSP built rom is.

OK so the hold up now seems to be LG right? in search for lg device drivers?
I think its ready for a ALPHA test now.. touchscreen works 100% and so does the radio wifi etc.. hardware acceleration wont be coming anytime soon but i can live without it for now
There are a lot of things that will need to be ironed out before we can even consider a beta.
First hand, without hw acceleration the phone crawls.

Correct unless some kind of workaround is created.

Hope you can get HW acceleration to work soon. Can't you do whatever other roms like cyanogen mod did?
Its not like they got exclusive access to tegra drivers...
The problem is the binary blob implements hw acceleration according to the way Gingerbread expects it which is different than how Honeycomb and ICS do it.
I've seen at least one person talk about rewriting the library from the android side to match how the nVidia blob works. Which would be a good backup plan if LG renegs on the ICS update for our phones.

I understand it's not as easy as copy paste source code, but the strategy should be the similar. I've never done any low level development so I'm just shooting in the dark here.
Also cm9 is expected in 2 months and I assume it will support the g2x. I wouldn't count on lg for anything. So rewriting the library is probably the best bet.
Glad to see so many new people jumping on and helping out. I'm sure most people here would help if they knew how.
Thanks for the work, guys! Where can we donate?
I've been a lurker on these forums for a long time and never realized I had to have 10 posts to post in the developer forums, so at least I can post in this thread. I will be getting up to speed on the ICS source over the next couple days and hope to join the effort in development of the port to the g2x as soon as I have my dev environment up. I'll be sitting in the IRC channel to ingest the info on where you guys are at so that I can jump in and help with any parts (sound maybe?) that you guys need assistance with.
Great job so far, hopefully I can be of assistance.

Sense 2.1 port on Infuse 4G

Hey guys, I have a small request for any kernel dev on the infuse..
I have an ns4g, and have been working on a sense 2.1 port, thread is here :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1489851
My friend let me borrow his old infuse 4g, as I was interested in developing for it a little..
The port itself shouldn't be too hard, as the infuse and ns4g are both based on the s5pc110 board, and are pretty much the same device along with all sgs haha..
What I'm asking is, are there any kernel devs out there that would be willing to help me? I need a sense bootclasspath over a cm7 kernel for this port, and thats all I am asking for. I suck with samsung zimages, and dont trust myself building it from source since I just picked up the device..
Thanks in advance for anyone willing to help

Well he's got a new test kernel. And Samsung now has posted new source. If you brick this thing, I will applaud you. It's REALLY hard to. Especially if you have a jig. I'd try this thing if you did it.. even though I've heard what Sam Catsplat thinks about Sense...
There's nothing I could do here - I don't even know what the hell you're asking for. Bootclasspath is userland (maybe initramfs), not kernel.
If you're doing something as aggressive as trying to shoehorn Sense onto a Samsung device, you'd better have the ability to rebuild your own kernel.
As I don't have a device, I am not doing anything but small patches. I also don't recall you ever trying to get in touch with me, but maybe I missed the PM.
Either way - you are best off doing this yourself. If you can't rebuild a kernel you have no hope of achieving a major mod such as a Sense port.

Alright yeah I was a little confusing. To clarify, I needed the initramfs edited to conatin the sense bootclasspath. I will try to rebuild my own, I was just thinking that since this isn't even my device, and I have never done anything rom wise with it, I would try to ask the community for help.
I sent you a pm awhile ago, a few days after I posted here. I'm not very good with samsung kernels or zimages or whatever you wanna call them, which is why I asked you for help.
This was just a little project I wanted to try out, and since its not my device I didn't want to go at it alone. Sorry for asking for help.

[DEV][TEAM WX435] has arrived!

To all the XDA Motorola Triumph fans we have arrived. We have packed our bags from Android Forums and this will be our new stomping ground. We took most of the dev's and formed a collaborative team
https://github.com/WX435
We will be working on making the Motorola Triumph a much better phone and all working together to fix many issues. Right now our main goal is working on rewriting our device files for CM7 and then moving those files into CM9 and AOKP. If we continue to have success we may also start working on AOSP flavors like Gingerbread and ICS as well. Stay tuned for some radical changes and fixes!
Now we just need to talk to B_randon and Austrie

Hi, G60, can you comment on this latest development here: http://androidforums.com/triumph-al...d-sharp-2-2-2-triumph-mms-now-working-5.html?
It seems that using this remodeled Sharp ROM, everything in HW (including AGPS) can be made to work. Is that something which can be leveraged for general development? If so, perhaps in the spirit of team building, everyone can pull together to get one ROM out to use as a basis. Sorry, I'm a dev IRL, but don't know much about how these ROMs are built (from source? provided binaries?). I can help if we're shorthanded doing such a thing.
Thanks.

agent,
Right now our focus is CM7. I am currently reworking the device files for the phone, trying to make everything perfect. I have already downloaded the sharp ROM and will dive into it more to pull out the AGPS to see if I can make it work in CM7. Right now my focus has been on the video and it's getting much better but still needs some tweaks. b_randon is working on the kernel, we are hoping to upgrade that as well. Once I have the device files done will then be reworking them into CM9 & AOKP along with kernel. It's a slow process as we have completely started from scratch. Just know we are working it :good:
Ok, thanks. I just tried out the Sharp ROM, and another thing its seems to get right is deep sleep while wifi is on. I'm not sure if it's doing it correctly or just turning it on when screen is unlocked (not sure what's default on android), but I had auto-sync on. I've never had wifi deep sleep work before (Juicedefender has a bug here). That's kind of a big deal since we've previously had to trade off battery life for speed. [Q] Are Most Of These ROMs A Waste? What Do You Think?

*I did not make this thread to discredit, discourage or bash any devs, I am simply asking for opinions on a subject that dawned on me recently. Please speak freely and non biasly. Thanks!*
OK guys, here goes. I've been experimenting with alotta ROMs lately, mostly ICS. In time I've realized that we never have the features that we paid for, mainly 1080p recording. If the phone doesn't oporate the way we paid for it to (And I paid full price) then is it not a waste to flash the ROM?
I love the speed and battery efficiency I get from the devs and I'm blown away by the amount that they've accomplished, but I've been recently contemplating falling back to stock simply because I'll have the awesome camera. I'd even settle for a top notch Sensation ROM. I know this sounds like a complainer thread, but I've been really losing morale with this device. It seems there will be no more hard KB devices so I might defect to a One S or wait for a One S equivalent from T-mobile. What do you guys think?
I will never give up my keyboard. You leave if you like. And these custom roms are supposed to give our phone something it would've never had otherwise. A functioning ICS rom. If you can't live without everything working, then you should stick to stock or stock tweaked. (I can't use 1080p even if it was working. Don't have a fast enough card )
Rom building and compiling takes a lot of time and effort, not to mention skill.
Essentially, these fine devs are doing the work HTC and T-Mobile were never going to do. Lazy greedy scum they are

I personally don't think that it's a waste to flash these ROMs. Mainly because IMO (aside from 1080p recording) we're really getting more than what we paid for if you think about it. All the features that are available with ICS alone would have made this device more expensive to begin with off the shelf. Then add features of CM9 that these devs are cooking into the ICS ROMs or the features of Sense/ICS ROMs combined together...I think we it's a great thing what's been accomplished.
If 1080p recordning is the main thing you really want then I'd follow the previous suggestion and flash stock or go with a modded stock ROM. There will be no defecting for me. I love physical keyboards! I use mine daily in one way or another.
Even if it comes to the point that nothing on this device is supported anymore I will have this phone lol. We have enough to be used as DDs. So all in all for me, I don't think these ROMs are a waste to flash/use.

This is why I use Bulletproof. It has everything we paid for, and is much more stable and optimized than the stock rom. I would love to have an ICS rom, but I want everything to work on my phone. This is my choice. I am happy with using a GB rom, because my phone does everything I want it to. If it isn't broke don't fix it.

Do you have one of Blues UV Kernels? I REALLY NEED THE 8%. My computer was fried, and I can't get into my HDD.
Sorry for the off topic.

I'm sorta in the same boat as OP. I've flashed everything and found camera limitations with all of them, so I'm really waiting a 1080p fix with flawless camera otherwise before I go back to ICS. I really love how far everything has come this year in terms of development and it's much appreciated, but I don't plan on going back to an ICS ROM without a fully functioning camera. I have an 19 month year old son and just can't risk it!
My dream is ICS with Sense, but even just for a nice camera fix, I think I'd be okay without Sense.
Running Mik in the meantime. Bulletproof was nice except for the green tint to everything.
Hoping for a camera fix soon. Wallet will be opened then!

I am in north carolina, my dev computer is in pennsylvania. I bought yogi's doubleshot, he doesn't have one anymore.
I don't know what I have, but whatever it is it's hundreds of miles away and wholly unavailable.
If you want to host the UV kernels, they were made by yogi, but I'm sure it'll be okay - only issue is no sources, so...?
If it's kosher to link them up here, then feel free to host them and make a thread for it if you want, I have no issue with it, if it'll help someone that's what's important.
Just make sure to credit yogi, and make sure to be explicit about no support from the authors. I'm not quite in a position to do so yet with my new job, still absorbing a lot of data and training, so my brain and body are worn and exhausted after my shift ends in the morning.
I'll bring this to yogi's attention, or at least ask about it, but I don't see an issue with sharing it, provided the two requests I made above are filled.

Oh, not gonna quote the whole OP yet again in the thread on page 1... But...
Op - if you feel something is lacking, you are in the place to give you the best shot at figuring out how to make it do what you want.
As far as getting all the features you paid for, well, you paid htc or tmobile, or a little of both, or you bought it secondhand, but the money was originally collected by one or both of those entities. If you use the software they provide, then you get what you paid for.
Using an alternate software version, like what you find here, actually gives you much more then what you paid for it - for you paid nothing, and got a whole lot in return.
You can jump in and help the active devs solve problems, or wait until they do, but the argument about getting whatever value you invested real money into evaporates the moment you flash any non-stock OS.

I would but I have no computer, I got a hold of your OC kernel. Then dropped the UV my self using some chart I found here. I can't wait to see you back here. CM9 soucre, and 3.0 Kernel Soucre. Bulletproof ICS?

Virtuous Inquisition & Rubix Ice 5.3 both have functioning 1080 video recording. There may even be a couple more. I can't recall. V I even uses the original Doubleshot camera.

Not true... Virt Inq dosn't have working 1080p, or the DS camera. It's using the Sense 3.6 camera. Only Rubix, and any stock based Roms have it(1080p/DS Camera).

I'd dance naked in the street for a Virtuous Primadonna with working 1080 camera...
Or at least an s-series virtuous ROM...

Heck, I've got a computer. Why can't we just upload it to a share site with permission, of course. If this is the same same Yogi from the G2 section, I remember him and he was a nice guy. I doubt he'd mind with proper credit. Let me know if I can help. I'm still settling in here and am a newb as far as the Doubleshot goes. I'd love to support this device with whatever can like I try to do with all my devices. Just looking for what needs to be done/or something helpful that's not too much beyond my expertise or time lol! I am a bit concerned and confused on the framework variations between ICS and GB but I can pick it up as I go. I've only run 2 ICS roms between two devices so I have a lot of reading to do. Well, my computer is here if y'all need it. Feel free to pm me if anyone needs it or if I can help.

To be fair, I never used this feature before I flashed CM9, and I continue to not need it. Cameras, to me, are just a bonus. I just want a faster phone with better battery life.
