Hello there,
I am fairly new to rooting and applying ROMs and such. Was wondering exactly what a ROM does. Can I change ROMs but it not change the way my phone looks? I am looking for a ROM that has good battery life. Right now I am running myn-warmTwopointTwo. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Kristin
Fresh 3.5 has excellent battery life and no lag.

There are "Stock" rooted ROMs available, if you just want to keep it looking stock. A lot of the reason there are so many ROMs available, is customization. Some people feel the stock ROM is too plain, Not enough features, too much un-needed "Bloat" software, etc...
Myn's ROM is one of the better ROMs out. He takes a lot of pride in his work, and will not release a version till he feels it is near flawless.
Sometimes, you may find a ROM that has all the added features you may want, performs great, but you just don't like the look. In that case, after you have the ROM in place, you can flash different Theme's or Mods. Just make sure that the software version the Theme/Mod is based on, matches the version of the ROM you are using (Myn's Rls5 is based off software version 3.70, so any themes/mods added would have to be based off 3.70 as well.)
ROMs by themselves don't really change the way your phone looks (unless you have an AOSP ROM and go to a Sense ROM and vice versa). Themes will do that. If you're Myn's and find another Sense based ROM you like, it is entirely possible to get your phone to look exactly the same way it looks now
Myn's is by far the best Rom & battery life is insane

Hello Evo users. I've gotten my hands on an Evo and I want to port my Thunderbolt themes over as I know there has been a lot of people wanting them. However, I don't track the Evo ROM's as I've had no reason to. What I need to know is what's the best, most stable Sense based ROM's to build of off. I need Froyo and Gingerbread ones. I want to get a feel of what the most popular ones are so I can use that as a starting point.
If you are unfamiliar with my themes, click on the links in my sig to see them.
Thanks.

use anything by myn(warm2.2(froyo),synergy(gb 2.1+3.0)

double post
Synergy is currently RC2, release candidates are not exactly stable by definition.
Synergy and MikG. Both roms are extremely stable and both have a pretty large user base. My only problem with MikG is that there are hardly any decent themes for it. Synergy has themes like PlurStarAlpha which is absolutely beautiful, but it would be nice to have more options
Evokings kingdom is a bad ass ROM

Synergy is the way to go
I curious to which rom you use?
I tried synergy rc1.
The burst, plur star alpha is gorgeous.
I kept running out of internal memory, until the phone crawled to a halt.
I m currently using MikG 2.3
200mb after install Eventually I got curious and jealous that synergy seemed to get all the good mods and themes.
The burst plural alpha star theme does work for mikG..2.3.
mikmik did say to delete the .dex from the synergy burst theme apk...
I wasn't to sure how to do this so I installed anyways
The only thing that didn't work was the stock internet browser.
So I have been trying miren and maxthon.
4G,
Wi fi
Txt
mms
Gmail
Gps
Market
All work
Battery life is the same
No slow down, or quirks yet.
If you decide to try the burst theme on mikG, nandroid , wipe cache, and dalvic.
Good luck.

You have missed the point of this thread, lol. I don't use any ROM's on the Evo. In fact, I haven't even rooted the phone yet. And I won't be using any themes that are already posted as I'm porting over my own themes from the Thunderbolt. The purpose of this thread is to solicit ROM referrals to build my themes on.
Ive tried the top 2 that most mention and i use MikG 2.2
MikG is solid as it comes...
Hey ZHP it's great to have you in the Evo threads now! For Gingerbread I suggest you use Synergy regardless of the RC status, it's still stable as hell! As far as the Froyo goes... don't waste your time. We have Gingerbread OTAs so I don't THINK anyone still uses them :/
O yeah and PLEASE do the Sense Squared theme first! I have been following Team BAMF on the TB threads for a while and fell in love with that theme.
As some of you have come from the captivate know what I did there with Rom Q&A threads. I am doing the same here. In an effort to clean up the site. All Rom related question shall from now on be posted in the proper Q&A or will be deleted on sight.

I downloaded CoreDroid HD 7.1 (Sense 3.0) for Inspire from their site. It uses Hotfile to host the file, so when I tried to download both versions (Sense 2.1 & Sense 3.0) I had to wait until the first was done, Then I was told I reached my download limit from Hotfile, and had to wait 30 minutes, or create a premium account. I hope I like Sense 3.0.
That was the only issue I had.
Holy crap! 7.6 is FAST and the screen animations are awesome. Only five minutes in and diggin this huge.

Will the Circle Battery Meter v7.5 work with 7.6?
I'm guessing it will, but want to be sure so I don't jack anything up.
EDIT: It works, figured the battery version number didn't have to do with the ROM version.
Is there a way to change the branding from Desire to Inspire? I tried the Ispiredmod but it doesn't seem to work
After installing the rom and then rebooting the phone is it normal for it have sit on the HTC screen for 10+ minutes? Hopefully someone can answer soon.
Nop, the normal in first boot is one minute or two. Maybe you need to do a wipe first.
Thankfully all I did was pull the battery and startup the phone and everything ran just fine after that. I didn't have to worry about reflashing anything. Thanks though.
Are there other themes for this rom out there other than the stock theme that comes with it?
Long time lurker here:
I've been using Coredroid v7.6 for the past 2 days and I've had nothing but positive thoughts about it. Super fast, sleek, very stable. Maybe it is just me, but I also think the GPS locks on to my phone much faster under the new software- compared to the stock Inspire ROM. The battery life is also extended, although by how much, I still can't say.
3 things that I noticed however, and maybe you guys can set me right:
1). The green notification light that blinks when your phone is in stand-by and you receive an email, text, or google talk message... I noticed that it doesn't always blink when I get a notification. It seems to work if the phone has just recently been put in stand-by, but if the phone has been sitting there for a couple of hours, and then a notification comes in, the green blink doesn't appear.
2). Speaker hiss. Whenever I'm done with music, a video, or anything that uses the speakers, I can hear a slightly hiss from the speakers that lasts for 1-2 seconds and the "pops" when the hiss breaks off. I believe this was present in the stock ROM as well, but I guess with the speaker volume increase, its more present?
3). When the phone is powered down, there is no charge animation when the phone is plugged into a charge source- all I see is an orange notification light.
Edit: With regards the issue 1; it seems like the green blink DOES work when a notification comes during stand-by... but the frequency is super low (like once a minute or something). Once you un-standby and go to the lock screen, the green blink frequency goes up to once per 4-5 seconds and maintains this frequency EVEN WHEN going back to stand by. Why was this change done?
This ROM seems to drain battery life rather than increasing it as it stated. I love the ROM but I have to have a charger at all times. It's a good thing I already have a car charger or I would be screwedshoukd I adjust the CPU speeds on idle?.

Give me some tips. I can't seem to justify leaving this rom, I've tried others and I dislike them.
I was wondering how to change the boot animation screen. I have been searching and i haven't really found anything. Most things that i did find was specific to a certain rom, so any help would be very much appreciated.

There's a thread for boot animations in the themes & apps section.

So I went from Coredroid 7.6, and switched to Coredroid 7.1 and added a few mods to it, I put the circle battery mod on, the transparent system ui mod, and transparent rosie mod. I was absolutely loving it at that point, however once my battery reaches 30% or so my phone shuts off over and over again. I'm not sure why this is. Should I have cleaned the battery stats before flashing this mod? There were no problems with 7.6, and when checking my voltages on 7.1 everything was as it should have been at 100%, but I have the issue where the phone shuts down at 30% battery. Is this a known issue?
Edit: I charged the phone up a little bit and problem started appearing with a bit more consistency, flashed back to the 7.6 rom. Oh well, I guess it was fun while it lasted on 7.1
What's the difference between the lordmod kernel that is included in Coredroid v8 and LorDModUE V6.9.2 BFSv404?
Theming question
I have somewhat of a more advanced theming question. Dunno if this is the correct thread to post this question in but, I am making a theme for Coredroid 7.0 and I dont kno how to chainge the sense 3.0 weather backround. Can someone tell me what file I would have to edit and where it is located at? heres an example
Perma-fast boot on CD v8.0 - new Mods page?
Lovin' the Sense 3 w/ the cool widgets and 3D widgets, but noticed that even w/ FastBoot disabled, there is no way to shut CoreDroid v8.0 off! Am i missing something? Did a full-wipe coming from v7.1, which i thought was pretty good ...
Next Q is around theming and UI mods (i like the transparent UI). Where are these to be found, as the OP points to v7.6 and sooner revs - pls advise.
Keep up the great work! thx for your response!
EDIT: pwr dwn options DO exist. sorry for the hasty post! still am curious as to where the new UI mods will come, though.
I was rocking the Cyanogen Mods Nightly for a minute...i wanted the new update so i went back to stock to get the GRJ90 and Baseband update. Got it and im getting a steady 6-7mbps 4G now!!
My question now is....in your opinion...what is the best fully functional ROM out for the UPDATED 2.3.5 Nexus S 4G?
How is the newest nightly running?
Any roms developed for the 2.3.5 update?
I am enjoying buglesspetes nightlys, slim and smooth.

petes rom
Petes rom with petes kernel (or matrix 5.5) has been solid for me. iceandfire seems pretty nice as well (but I havent tested it much) if you like a more themed ROM.
I agree, Pete's roms has good batt life and performance. Also Jonathon Grigg's Carbon4g rom is pretty bada** too.
I too am using bugless Pete, but testing matrix 5.5 with it, also fond of decks for more features. Pete says to use his kernel but I want to play with undervolting.

If you want a clean super fast rom with great battery. Go with Pete.
If you want a very theme-able rom with sprinkles. Go with Ice and Fire. Use go launcher.
Both are great in their own regard.

Its unanimous. Using BP myself with his kernel. Just out of curiosity, what is the newest baseband and prl?
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App
You mean the Crespo ROM, right ?
I've tried them all and BuglessPete with his Kernel is the smoothest with GREAT battery life.....
KushDeck gives you great customizablility, battery life with Matr1x 5.5 isn't great, going to try Pete's Kernel. Really like the theme chooser and ability to change lock screen (add music controls, additional swipe tabs, etc)
No CM7 love?
Surprised no one is rocking straight CM7. What does BP do over top of CM7 to make it more appealing?
Also, do you need to flash back to stock to get the updated baseband?
BuglessPete with the included kernel is the best for smoothness, stability, speed and battery life. It does lack some features found in the CM7-based ROMs though. Stuff like the theming engine, lockscreen edits, reboot menu with screenshot option, etc. If you want all that, go with Kush 1.3.
But let me throw another name into the ring -- the Oxygen ROM, made by the same dev who did OpenSoju, is a stock-look, CM7-based ROM that is very stable, with good battery life. I'd say Oxygen 2.2.1 is just a smidge better than Kush 1.3, but nothing touches Pete for responsiveness/battery life. I go back and forth between Oxygen and Pete these days. Btw, the Oxygen thread is only in the GSM forum, but they link to ROMs for the CDMA crespo as well.
Thanks for the link, I setup a friend with Oxygen 2.1.6 but I am having trouble finding release notes for oxygen 2.2.1 on XDA. I really like OpenSoju and want to try Oxygen 2.2.1 but would like to see a bit about what I'm getting into.
Edit: Does Oxygen 2.2.1 have customizable lockscreen with 4 tabs and Music Player controls? 2.1.6 had Custom Power buttons and theme chooser so I assume those remain.
yeah GPA17 is my choice too.

I know for sure it has the power menu and theming engine. I did not see a lockscreen config in the Oxygen Settings. Granted I did not look that hard for it since I like the stock lockscreen. I have only ever run 2.2.1, have never run 2.1.6, so I can't speak to the differences.
cm nightly + tuv11 latest
I've switched to Pete's ROM (GPA17) a couple weeks ago and haven't looked back. Much more stable, snappy, and better battery life than anything I've tried before (CM7 nightlies). +1 for GPA17
i appreciate everyones input! quick question...petes GPA17...someone clear that up with me? Im just going to flash this newest rom "ete_crespo4g_08-19-11.zip" then run his new "Nexus S 2.6.35.14 Kernel" and see how that runs.
Ok, im running petes latest nightly. Everything seems nice, but im getting lock-ups everyday and its happening with various things. Once i was choosing a new ringer and it froze while playing the ringer. had to pull my battery. Another time when i tried answering a call, it locked up...had to pull the battery. There are other instances but that gives you an idea...just random freezes. Any ideas?
This is going to sound greedy but there is so many jb Roms. I have been sticking to ICS since I find it most stable. But (once again I'm sounding greedy) why are no developers putting out any tweaked ICS Roms? I know there is tweaked, but it would be nice to see others since I have found tweaked to be a little buggy at times. I know I shouldn't ask for ANYTHING. But hopefully I inspire maybe just one individual to give stock ICS some tweaks for us stock lovers :")
Sent from my SGH-T769
I don't mean to thread hijack, but sorry to hear the buggy experience on Tweaked - any specifics? I'm in the process of going through my old roms and updating them - once I finish the current project I'll be tinkering on the Blaze again - so any specifics would be awesome so I know where to focus
I think my issue was battery life. That got fixed by flashing the stock kernel. Then my issue was random reboots after like a week of using the ROM. I flashed like 3 times it always lasted like a week before it gave me issues. I don't have any logs or helpful material to give though. Besides that your ROM is wonderful hopefully you get the time to work on it some more or you could make a slightly tweaked ICS with just things like the scrollable toggles and battery icon themes and stuff like that. I think once you start digging into lockscreens and bigger kernel mods that's when more bugs appear more.
Sent from my SGH-T769
Agree.... perhaps a Tweaked Lite is in order... duly noted, thanks for the feedback
Thanks for considering my feedback

Yeah, a nice, clean, and lightweight ICS rom with some customization options and wifi call would be awesome.
Honestly WiFi calling is the only thing I miss from all the JB roms.
