[Q] Stock .apk backups? - T-Mobile Sidekick 4G

Hello, i have a request from the fine people in this forum. Does anyone have the stock tmobile .apks that came with the SK4G? I rooted and thought taking out some of the bloat would be good, now the curtain unlock is giving me trouble on boot. I overlooked making backups like a noob, and was wondering if anyone could upload them or point me in the right direction? Thank for your time and reply.

Which ones do you need?

if someone wants to pull the messaging app apk, id be really appreciative.

I am not actually sure what .apk is to blame, I took several out. Getting started.apk? I'm not sure at all, but it seemed like a pretty harmless uninstall. Could it be possible to get a full collection of the stock .apks? Or a list perhaps? Seemingly this could be a great help to everyone. Thanks so much for your reply bburke88!
Edit>> Im in the process of backing up all the .apks i still have and will zip and post soon....if it is allowed? idk

Just download the dump in the Android Development section and pull the apps out of sidekick/app/
That will have every .apk you need for the sidekick

I am new to modding my Sprint hero

I rooted the phone and flashed the ROM. I am looking to get Android market and figure out how to sync my contacts with GMAIL. I am very new to this and actually didn't really want to do it, but why not. I need all kinds of help.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Tony
The best advice I can give you, being pretty new myself, is to search the forum every question has been asked 12 times atleast. And the people here are extremely helpful. From my knowledge I would search for a Google addons zip and flash it. But I could be wrong.

Download the GApps file and flash it to your phone just like you did the ROM, and the Google Apps will all be there

Make sure you keep the gapps file for future use. ROMS built from source cannot have googles proprietary files included.

Need good primer

Just purchased my first Android phone (Aria). I noticed that there is a lot of bloatware on this phone and that there are several things missing that I would like to have. Namely, I would like swype and active wallpapers, but I'm sure there is much more.
I have spent the day looking through webpages around how to install these things and remove the bloatware. The furthest I have gotten is to get the phone to root. I am a developer by trade but have just a little Java experience.
Can someone point me in the right direction on a primer on how to install these things and remove the bloatware?
I notice that people refer to different ROMS a lot. I would be interested in learning how to install these as well.
Sorry for the newb question, but I need a little context to be able to get to work.
Thanks!
Check the stickies

for removing the bloatware you have a couple options now that you're rooted. You can install a custom ROM, search this forum for CM6.1.1 or Liberated for that. Installing these ROMs is detailed in their respective threads here in the Development section. Or to just remove the bloatware and keep your stock ROM search for a thread called "alternate method for removing bloatware". That details how to remove whatever system apps you dont want using adb.
As for Swype, thats a little more tricky. The only "legit" way to get it is to sign up for the beta at Swypes website, but the beta currently closed and who knows when it will open again. The other option is to just search google for someone that has a pirated version available for download. Swype beta is free so you shouldnt feel too bad for downloading it unofficially The newest version is 2.15.56. You will also need to search for a thread about sideloading apps to install swype if you dont want to install a custom ROM. As for live wallpapers on a stock aria, I have no idea on that one, sorry.
Good Luck
Check out the liberated ROM using the 2.1 eclair or even the latest liberated Rom running froyo

you can check out my guide HERE. plenty of info all in one spot. most of the information is based on what i have learned here at XDA. Great people, great community. keep it up guys
Wow, thanks for all the great information guys. I got a liberated ROM loaded last night but it is certainly a "learn as you go" exercise! The ROM I got was a stock minus the AT&T bloatware. Still haven't gotten live wallpapers to work yet, but I'll tinker with it as I get time.
That being said, which ROM do you guys feel is the best?
Thanks again, the last 3 or 4 posts have been extremely helpful!
congrats bro, i personally recommend the Liberated FR008, or CM6 FroYo. they are both excellent stable ROM's, and they both include live wallpapers too
BTW, if someone's post helps you, dont forget to click the "Thanks" button

My Rom of choice is definitely Cm6.1.1. But that's just my preference. The liberated roms are also great roms. Try them both. Regardless of which you choose both have excellent support from the community and the devs which its very important.

I agree with the previous two posts, you really can't go wrong with either of the two Froyo (Android 2.2) ROMs -- Liberated FR008 or CyanogenMod 6.1.x. One very important thing to remember is before you install any new ROMs, boot into Clockwork Recovery (With the phone off, hold the volume down and power button simultaneously). Once there, click on NANDROID and then make a back-up. After you make the back-up, reboot the phone and then copy the back-up folder to your computer just to be safe. It's in the Clockwork folder on your SD card. Once you've done that, you can feel comfortable installing different ROMs knowing that you have that back-up you can always return to if you run into problems.
Oh and one more thing, although it probably isn't totally necessary, I also delete data/Factory reset, delete cache and delete dalvik cache prior to installing a new ROM. This isn't necessary if you're just installing an update to the same ROM you already have running, but it's a pretty good way to ensure a trouble-free installation on a new ROM. The downside is that you have to install all your apps from scratch afterwards, but that can also be a good thing, allowing you to edit out the apps you really aren't using anyway.
Make sure all of your contacts are GOOGLE contacts before you start flashing ROMs as well. This will ensure that you don't lose any with a new ROM install. One of the ROMs (Cyanogen, I think) doesn't allow you to view contacts from the SIM card, so if you haven't moved them all to Google, you'll essentially lose them until you go back to a different ROM.

I've tried to follow this link a couple of times, and I've never been able to do so successfully. It appears as though registration is necessary?
got live wallpapers working today. Again, thanks for all the help. If any other noobs need help, holler at me: I'd be happy to help - although I will say that I followed most of the stickies and was able to do what I needed. Thanks given out all around!

My update.zip isn't working!

Hi everyone, I wrote a script to modify kernel voltages upon bootup for the EVO. I also made an update.zip, but it doesn't seem to be working properly and I can't figure it out. Placing the script in /system/etc/init.d works just fine but flashing the .zip that would do that for you does not.
Can someone please take a look at this and tell me what I'm doing wrong? It is probably something simple in the updater-script that I am missing. Thanks!
You should post this in the EVO section. Might get more help there.

I thought about it, but update.zip's are used over alot of Android devices. I thought I might get a little more help here.

Ics mms.apk

Would someone be kind enough to upload the mms.apk from the ICS leak to this thread? I lost mine trying to install a replacement (stupid, I know, I know). I'd really appreciate it. I'm using GoSMS right now, which works fine as a replacement, but I'd prefer to use stock.
Thanks so much.

You would probably get a good response to this if you post it in the correct section.

nighthawkundead is right man, if your reread your post you'll notice that your first line is a question, thus it belongs in Q&A. He's not trying to be a douche, he's just warning you because usual people get flamed for posting in the wrong section
Go Sms is much better than stock. Anyway
I understand. Not that I really feel the need to defend myself but I figured since this is the developers thread it would be an appropriate spot for such an inquiry. Since the developers generally have their hand in the system files I figured it would be an easy place to have this answered. Maybe you can understand why I decided to post it here? I don't really see the 'harm' it has done. If it's such an inconvenience to look at it then just don't, ya know?
If you flashed through CWM, you could just use Root Explorer to extract the apk from the flashable zip. If you used Odin, then you could download the Odin files and extract it from there. If none of the above would work for some reason, then you could dl the leak from some thread on here.....then extract.

I appreciate the response, Javier. The problem is that I used SuperOneCLick to flash the ROM. I'm not really sure how to extract from that. I'll see if there's a way.

I'm not trying to attack you man, all im trying to do is help keep this forum clean. When you post here like that it makes people think that you putting up a modded version of the ICS MMS.apk, if you refresh the development forum you'll notice that your the only thread that doesn't start with (dev) (rom) (how to). All i'm trying to get across is that your question would be answered just as fast if it was in the Q&A section, and actually it's probably more suited for the themes and apps section. Sorry if you felt like i was trying to bust your balls over it tho

Only reason I clicked onto this thread. Was disappointed.
also to answer your question, it may not be the fastest method but you could just download this rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1566820), then unzip it and locate the app in the /system/app move that to your phone and use a root browser to place it in /system/app.
No, it's cool. I do understand what you were getting at... and you're right. I just wanted you to understand my way of thinking. No harm, no foul.
I'm still at a loss of how to get these files. I now have the mms.apk but I think I still need the mms.odex. Is there any way of extracting these files from the SuperOneClick file? I'm trying but I'm not really getting anywhere.
All is well. I've gotten both the mms.apk and the mms.odex now. I appreciate everyone who helped and I'm sorry for any confusion about where I posted this. Many apologies. No mal intent.
To the powers that be - you can delete this thread.
noob question, but does this work with gb rom?

[Q] INSTALL stock ICS phone apk

Hello,
Can somebody please guide me through the steps needed to install stock ICS phone apk on my htc one x (ATT)
I have the apk but i am unable to install. I purchased root explorer, renamed the phone apk and the phone.odex file tried to install but it says unable to install.
What am I doing wrong?
Thank you so much in advance.
bump to this, I'd like to know as well. Also would be nice to get that apk if there ends up being a viable way to get this done. I'd like to have google voice vmails integrated in the dialer!

Main reason why im so interested
i can tell you its not as easy as overwriting the phone.apk with the stock ics phone.apk. and you would also need the stock ics contacts.apk i think.
Any chance to get all? Stock ICS on HOX is very good idea.
I dont really know much about where this stands or if it's currently possible, but if you head over to the development threads, you'll probably find a lot of folks working on it, or at least mimicking it through custom ROMs. Good luck.
Maybe you should post your questions in the Q&A section
