[Q] INSTALL stock ICS phone apk - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Hello,
Can somebody please guide me through the steps needed to install stock ICS phone apk on my htc one x (ATT)
I have the apk but i am unable to install. I purchased root explorer, renamed the phone apk and the phone.odex file tried to install but it says unable to install.
What am I doing wrong?
Thank you so much in advance.

bump to this, I'd like to know as well. Also would be nice to get that apk if there ends up being a viable way to get this done. I'd like to have google voice vmails integrated in the dialer!

Main reason why im so interested

i can tell you its not as easy as overwriting the phone.apk with the stock ics phone.apk. and you would also need the stock ics contacts.apk i think.

Any chance to get all? Stock ICS on HOX is very good idea.

I dont really know much about where this stands or if it's currently possible, but if you head over to the development threads, you'll probably find a lot of folks working on it, or at least mimicking it through custom ROMs. Good luck.

Maybe you should post your questions in the Q&A section

Original Swype APK for Tmobile Tab

Can someone pull the swype.apk and all the libs from /system/lib for me?
It is not against XDA policy because Swype said it was fine as long as the device already had swype, and we can include it in custom roms as long as the device the rom is intended for, already has swype.
Anyway, I am using Modaco but to get media hub working I had to go to stock build prop and that breaks the swype that comes with Modaco, so I need the stock swype and the stock libs.
I will be starting on a Gorilla Rom for the Tab, soon. Is there anything you guys would like to see in it? Something that is not currently available?
HC theme would be nice to have from scratch.
Sorry about the Swype thing, but I got rid of it too.

I can't believe we have 1 million users here on XDA and this thread has had a couple hundred views and no one has pulled the apk for me?
I needed it before, so I downloaded the stock rom, unzipped the file, then un-tarred it, and pulled the apk and lib file.

Probably because it *is* against the rules!

There's nothing to stop you however pulling the stock ROM and removing it yourself.

[Q] Stock .apk backups?

Hello, i have a request from the fine people in this forum. Does anyone have the stock tmobile .apks that came with the SK4G? I rooted and thought taking out some of the bloat would be good, now the curtain unlock is giving me trouble on boot. I overlooked making backups like a noob, and was wondering if anyone could upload them or point me in the right direction? Thank for your time and reply.
Which ones do you need?

if someone wants to pull the messaging app apk, id be really appreciative.
I am not actually sure what .apk is to blame, I took several out. Getting started.apk? I'm not sure at all, but it seemed like a pretty harmless uninstall. Could it be possible to get a full collection of the stock .apks? Or a list perhaps? Seemingly this could be a great help to everyone. Thanks so much for your reply bburke88!
Edit>> Im in the process of backing up all the .apks i still have and will zip and post soon....if it is allowed? idk
Just download the dump in the Android Development section and pull the apps out of sidekick/app/
That will have every .apk you need for the sidekick

HTC Sensation email .apk

Although I hate Sense, I do think HTC did a decent job with the email app that comes on the Sensation. I just rooted my device over the weekend and now I am having trouble with my MS Exchange account at work. The HTC email app worked great, and I was hoping someone had the .apk so that I can add it to my CM7 based device. Is this possible? If so, can someone post the file?

Here's the apk from 2.3.4. Not sure if that will work on its own though!

Thanks, what else might I need to make it work? Also what is the best method of installing this? Some .apk's can simply be emailed to your phone and they install automatically, is this one of those or do I need to push it via ADB?
As @colinleeds said, I'm not sure it will as I think you need a Rom with Sense as Sense uses a different framework than CM or AOSP roms but you never know

What method of installation should I use?
It will not work as I had tried it before. You need the entire sense installed because the email.apk share some of the same library as other sense apps.

That is unfortunate. Do you know of another email app that plays well with Exchange?
re upload
could you please upload the mail.apk from the link above (2.3.4 version) ?

Google Now for Skyrocket

Has anyone been successful installing Google Now in their Skyrocket? I have tried the directions in every thread and no luck so far. I rooted my phone today just to install it. I would appreciate talking to anyone that has been successful.
Thanks
Mike
In order to help, we are going to need to know what ROM you are running and what method of install you used for starters.

OK im sorry for the lack of info. I will do the best I can as a a noob I might not get all of the the terms right. I have the stock rom. I installed the mikeyxdav7 zip file. When I open google search it brings up google now, I can get cards but nothing with voice. The microphone turns red and pulses and there are square mars below it that usually turns into words but they just stay the same I hope this is what you were looking for. Please bear with me as this is all new to an old guy like me.
Thanks
Mike
Have you done this:

I think following that guide exactly should get you where you want to be.
However, I highly recommend SkyICS by seanscreamz, it is a touchwiz based ROM that has a fully tweaked and functional Google Now. The instructions can be a bit confusing on the initial install but once you get it, everything is awesome. (You can even go back to a stock "theme" by flashing the "no vvm no theme" zip.)
I know I didn't give you an exact answer but I would leave my trust in that first post.

Please help.
Mike
Did you make a nandroid backup before you started flashing zip files? The only answer I can give is that or ODIN.

Advanced Power Menu MOD for ATT HOX

Hi All,
Please help me to find the APM Mod for my ATT HTC One X running on Clean ROM 6.5 (Based on 3.17 base).
I have searched in the XDA threads but they are not for ATT HOX.
Thanks in Advance!!
Thanks and Regards,
Sathish.
It has to be ported over. I actually want this and notification toggles too. Anyone know how to port them?
Sent from my HTC One XL using Tapatalk 4
Not sure exactly, but there's apps from the Play Store that offer notification toggles. Not the same, but you can use quick boot to boot in recovery and such. There's likely not going to be an available mod for it, because CleanRom ended development for our device.
Sent from my evita
APM requires smali code, xml files and png images to be added to framework-res.apk and code added and edits to android.policy.jar and toggles require smali code, xml files and png images in the systemui.apk. You will need to decompile them first. It is a quite involved proccess.
Ive always wanted to port them i was always used to having it on other phones. Might be too much for me right now tho lol. Only ever ported something once

Here is what I did and how I started to learn about these mods.
Google the app beyond compare and download it.
I'm assuming you know how to use apk tool if not there is enough info around that I'm not going to get into explaining that.
Find a Rom that has the mod your looking for. Make sure the Rom are on the same version ie 4.1.1.
Decompile the modded apk and the one from the Rom you want to add to.
Open beyond compare and select a folder compare add the entire decompiled folder for both apks and go through and look at the difference between the two apks. There are different ways you can choose to make the compares I usually choose binary compare to get the most accurate look at the diffs.
Some things related to the mod will be easy to find others will take a little longer.
Make the the edits to your unmodded apk and compile it and test it.
If it fails to compile or doesn't work when installed on phone then you missed something go back and go through it again.
It is a trial and error process but this is how I learned.
It should be noted most of these mods took someone quite a while to actually code from scratch with no reference so using it for your own personal use is fine but if you plan on publicly releasing it do the right thing and make sure you get permission from the original creator before making anything public that you did not make yourself.
Hope this helps.
