Hello xda members! I have just created an app called Prox that enables you to do certain actions based on swipes across the proximity sensor of your phone. There are loadouts and actions that you can set yourself. Things you can currently do with Prox:
*Launch application
*Expand notification bar
*Emulate home button
*Send a Toast
*Toggle ringer mode (ring, vibrate, silent)
Many more actions are planned for later versions of Prox!
I am a very active developer and will be updating this as much as possible. I already have a pretty awesome update schedule with a lot of new features in mind so be on the lookout here and in the market.
Because this is kinda hard to explain, I have made a YouTube video of it in action (forgive my video editing skills )
And, here is the market link if you so choose to download:
Download
Please let me know what else you would like to see in future versions of this awesome concept
EDIT:
I have decided to do a very lightweight version of the app as a free version for those of you who are wary to buy an app not knowing what it does. I plan on having it here and in the market within the week. This app will be a one time build only and won't even scratch the surface of what Prox can really do. But, it will give you a feeling of how it might work with a lot of options.
Prox Lite
I have already finished the Lite version of the app. It's already up in the Android market and you can get it here:
Download
This is a VERY limited demo version of the app and it gives you an idea of what it feels like to control your phone without touching it. Prox Lite has only 2 gestures: Flat to launch the home activity, and toward to expand and contract the notification panel. There are 5 actions in Prox Pro and there are also Loadouts than the user can customize. You can't customize anything in the Lite version and you have no control over global settings. It may seem rather limited, but it does give you an idea of what launching an app might feel like.
The Lite version will probably never be updated (I might if I get more actions that I am willing to give up). I have a lot of things in the works for Prox Pro so if you like the feeling of controlling your phone with the force (haha) then go ahead and pick up the pro version and get a lot of cool updates

This seems really fun. I personally don't have much use for it, but it is a very neat idea and looks like you've done a good job with it so far.
Here are the URLs for people who'd rather click than copy/paste:

@dismaljester Thanks for the links dude

The only problem with a free version is that this app is designed to be invisible. Once you set up your loadouts, then coming back into the app would be completely unnecessary because you can do everything related to Prox while you aren't in the app.
I might release a trial version or something to get more people looking at it though

Yea a trial version with 1-2 options/settings would be great.

I should have thought of this while developing the app. I'll probably have to start from scratch and do a lot of copy paste type stuff to get the trial one out.
I think that's probably the best thing to do because a lot of people are wary of paying for an app from a developer they don't really know. Or an app they have never heard of...

Well many apps have trial/lite/ads versions. So that direction could be beneficial in the long run. Imo.

This sounds really cool. Have you considered submitting it to the Amazon Appstore?

Can't reply to replies with links in them yet. So @Nooter, what is the difference in selling them in either store? Are there pros and cons to each one. I just don't see the point in listing it in 2 places when all android phone owners already have the market downloaded.

will the toggle ringer mode silence the phone while its ringing?
You should make one for reject/silence call. I'd love that one paired w/ flat while its on my desk at work.
If it rings I can just wave over it to silence/reject with minimal effort

Toggle ringer mode just sets it to ring, vibrate, and silent for your ringtones and notifications...
That is an interesting idea. The only reason something like that won't work is because if the phone is in your pocket, the proximity sensor already detects something blocking it. I can enable this setting, but if you have it enabled and the phone is in your pocket, then it will always silence it...
Plus, Prox is disabled for incoming calls to let android take care of turning off the screen. You don't want to be launching apps and such while talking on your phone

oh also, hows the effect on battery life with this running the sensor all the time?

maybe add a 'time-out' setting for account for pocketing? Aka if the proximity sensor is trigger for a user defined period, 15 sec, 30 sec, etc which would occcur when inside a pocket prox turns off gestures until the sensor is uncovered again for 30+ seconds. that would solve the pocket silence problem No idea if any of that is possible, its just what I'm thinking id use lol.

That would deal with wake locks, which would seriously take a big chunk out of your battery. Currently, Prox only uses around a single percent of battery for a whole day of usage. I want to keep it that way

I would love to try this out, but 15 minutes with it is just not long enough.
Please soon as you release a Trial version rename title at the end "NEW TRIAL VERSION AVAILABLE"
I don't want to pay for something that i may never use again.

[APP] Beta test - Light meter - Photographers

Hi,
I've been developing a photographic light meter app for Android. It has got the stage where it is almost ready for release, so I want to ask for your help with a spot of beta testing to work out the kinks!
The app can be downloaded here (just unzip the apk, put it on your sd card and install from there).
In a nutshell, what the app does is take a reading of the current light level, and display the correct exposure settings, it can also be used as a regular exposure and depth of field calculator. It should be fairly intuitive to use, but if you have any problems just post up and I'll try and help!
Ideally what I need is the make and model of your phone, if metering worked, how (in)accurate the metering was and any other comments/notes
Note: Landscape orientation is not finished, so expect weird layout issues there!
Thanks for the help!

Hi - it's not of great interest to me due to the fact I hardly take pictures with my phone, however I would have thought there would be masses of people killing for an app like this.
Here's hoping you get the response you need as we need to keep the developers like you around that come up with the niche applications for the community

some of the settings I found a bit confusing, for camera type I am not sure what you meant, I have a Panasonic "four-thirds system" so I choose that but I did not use my camera to compare to instead I used my handheld light meter (Sekonic Twinmate L-208), for device I selected HTC Hero, offset I left at zero...

Just a question: Why would your app need to read phone state?

Actually, its the other one
I changed the package name and forgot to remove the old apk!
First bug found by NexuSix, the devices should be set to standard unless you have an HTC Hero, not the other way around! However the app should pick up which device your using automatically, the device state access is for the light metering, nothing to worry about but glad to see people paying attention to the permissions apps are asking for!
As for camera type, most DSLRs are APS-C, I'll change the names to make it a bit clearer
Be aware that the metering is only as accurate as the hardware in your phone, which might not be very accurate!
Thanks for the testing so far
Holy cow, this is amazing. I will try it out immediately.
I have a Nikon D40, which, apart from being good and cheap, has the best lens compatibility of any Nikon DSLR, including the professional ones. Downside is the meter doesn't work for pre-AI lenses. This app is going to change my life.
Wow, this is cool. I will test this with my X10 and see how it does.
EDIT: It says light sensor not found, but the X10 does have an ambient light sensor.
Wow! It's p pretty awesome!
But I can't make the dof work... Near, far, dof, always zero...

A few others have noticed some accuracy issues with the DoF calculation, which I'm looking into, but it should work.
Can you try these settings for me and let me know what it does?

This will be because the app uses the standard Android API for accessing the light sensor, which some manufacturers have decided not to implement, I have found a workaround for the HTC Hero, I'll have a look into the X10
I'll try this app cause im a hobbyist photographer
Anyone try this on a MT3G Slide? My gf is a photography student and this app would probably "wow" her... I don't know a thing about camera settings, but I'd install this on her phone as a little surprise if it works...
Neat idea.
I try these settings, but I get this result (screen shot). I think there is a problem with units, when dof is too small its shows zero, as units are always meters.
On the other hand, in the screen shot, dof is 11000 m, but should be 11.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Ok thanks for the screen shot, I've updated the app, can you redownload and install and see if its fixed for me please?
Also the DoF will be displayed in whatever unit you select when setting the Subject D., it can also be switched to imperial units in the menus
Now it works ok!
Well almost... If you calculate dof, and then you press the trackball to meter, all dof values becomes zero.
Great app!

[APP] Flashlight Alerts 1.5, now supporting lots of phones + email + Google Voice

Hey all,
You may recall the Flashlight Alerts app I released last year for the HTC EVO and a few other phones:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6855234&postcount=35
Originally, the app would flash your LED when you received a phone call or when you got a new text message. Right after releasing, I got a bunch of requests for new features and supporting new phones.
Well, I finally found the time and I've now expanded the app so it works with many more phones (including the latest EVO 4G update and Nexus S), and added support for Gmail, Email, K-9 Mail, and Google Voice!
As always, the APK is attached for XDA members.
The app is also available in the Market for $2.99 if you would like to donate:

I've been waiting for this to be upgraded for Gingerbread for awhile now. Thanks a ton!
I can see how this can be really useful. Is it possible to make it automatically activate when the phone is set to silent mode? This way when the phone is set to vibrate or sound it not light up?

I totally agree!
Actually I believe the best feature (in my case) would be to allow the LED to flash every xx seconds. So when my GS2 lies on the table and when I have unread SMS / mail / voice message or a missed call it can remind me to check it!
Perfect settings would allow to set the flash rate (like .-.-.-. or .-.) and the timing for the reminder in seconds (blink every xx seconds).
Anyway that's a great app and a great job!
Works fine on my GS2 2.3.3
Thanks dev!
I have been waiting for an application like this since the day I first tried Android on my HD2.
Thanks for creating this app.
This is terrific and I am going to try this out on my Incredible, as the EVO and Incredible are basically the same.

Would need a time limit too so you could have blink [whatever pattern] every X seconds for Y minutes. Oh and if possible, create different blink patterns for different types of notifications
Works fine with Desire and ReflexS ROM
Thanks so much, I really like this program.
Now it works again also with Gingerbread ROMs.
Best regards
this sounds great can you make this availble for more devices???
Can you add support for htc mail, please. Thanks!

Has anyone encountered a bug that stops your HD2 from charging when this application has been triggered?
I have actually had to disable the app due to this issue. My battery was warm at the time so I will test again tonight.
The orange LED would go out, although android recognised USB was plugged in it refused to charge until I unplugged the cable and put it back in.
I know it has been mentioned in the various threads already, but it could REALLY use an interval setting. Like one flash every minute or something. Personally, if I am there to see the flash in the first place, I knew the phone rang anyway. It's when I wasn't there for the ring, is when it would be very handy to have it flash every few minutes. My phone sits face down in a holster so, I really can use an app like that.

Great news everybody TimeSwipe now supports tablets!
I created TimeSwipe as a simple way to use timers in a new intuitive way!
TimeSwipe is easy, fast and reliable. Now with support on all tablet sizes, at least 7" and 10"
Well what does it do and how does it do it?
You can use it as a countdown timer or as a stopwatch. You swipe the seekbars to set a time and press start, and now you have got your self a countdown timer. If you dont set a time by using the seekbars, it will start as a stopwatch. Simple? yeah I know.
The timers run in a foreground service and the timers is visible in the notification bar. If you would turn off your phone, or the app craches (god forbid). Then everything is stored and ready to proceed like nothing ever happend on your next launch.
Feature list:
- Phone and tablet support
- Countdown timer
- Stopwatch
- Get notifications in your status bar
- See current timers in your status bar
- The new Android design on all devices from version 2.3.3 Gingerbread
You got pro?
If you get the pro version (which is awesome) you can save and reuse timers, this is really sweet and well worth 1$, since you support me and the development.
With pro you can start multiple countdown timers and stopwatches at the same time, save them, name them and reuse them. It's also ad free, phew.
You got a widget?
Nope.
But it would be a cool feature to add in the future.
Get the app
Download free version on Google Play here.
This is a lite version of TimeSwipe limited to 1 timer.
Website
Please tell me what you think about it and possible enhancements. I'm up for everything
I'm working on it constantly but at this point I'm starting to need some feedback.
Hope you'll like it

I would post in the new thread but it's not up yet. I've been using this app for a couple days and it works great, clean simple interface and easy to use. I love it. I would like it if in the notification bar the timers could be separated out and not say "two timers running". Also the ability to name them would be awesome. I'm always having to set multiple timers at work and this works great.

I cant post in that forum yet since havent been member that long. But I'm glad you like it and are using it daily
I have thought about showing two notifications when running but it cant be done unless I start up two foreground services, and that wouldn't be good for battery, if its even possible. I'm gonna try a workaround to this because I see the benefit of this feature.
I'm thinking of two renaming options:
1. The ability to set a name on a timer just like that.
2. The ability to save timers (with name) and get some history, though this solution would only work for count-down timers.
Thank you for your feedback, this keeps me going for a while In the next update it's possible to change to the dark theme, gonna be released tonight.
The new theme looks nice :good:. Is it possible to kill the alarm sound like a regular alarm? For example, you set the alarm time to go off for 30 seconds it'll keep ringing no matter what for 30 seconds, even after unlocking the phone and deleting the alarm. Sometimes the default 3 seconds isnt enough since it doesn't loop, and you're not in the room. Or if its in your pocket and it keeps ringing for a long time.

Yeah I know about your concerns and I have tried to figure out a good solution to this. Unfortunate you cant create a alertdialog like the built in alarm, since it has to be inside the app. (You dont want an alarm dialog to popup during a game) but maybe I could view a alertdialog when the user is in the app. Or add a stop alarm button.

New version
Hi all
I have updated TimeSwipe free with a few fixes.
I removed the guide when you run the app for the first time.
The alarm should work better now and you can cancel it if you set an alarm interval greater then 4 seconds. This is also better explained in settings now.
I also added the option to not view the current timer in the notification since this updates the notification every second it can start blinking when used with other apps. So its now possible to disable that feature.
I also did a big updated of the paid version.
You can now save and rename your timers, and its super easy to access them from the side menu so you can reuse the timers over and over again. The fixes in the free version also applies on the paid version.
Hope you like the updates, and please give me feedback.
Btw, do you guys think there should be the same functionality in the free version as in the paid, but with ads? What is a good practice here?
Great news everyone!
I just added tablet support which will work on 7" and 10" displays. I also fixed the layout for phones, or rather, people with big phones
I realy hope you will enjoy TimeSwipe on your tablet as much as on your phone.
Keep me posted with feature requests or bug reports.
I updated the thread with a cool image on a tablet aswell

I developed it for myself mostly and shared it on the play store, i received very good feedback so far so i thought i would share it with you guys
Also you can buy a premium pack:
★AutoWake: Automatically awake when an app from the list is in the foreground
★Keep device awake when charging
★Keep your CPU awake
★Brightness controllers
★Personalize the theming of the app
It's a little simple app but it comes very handy sometimes

Thank You
Hey DoubleP90!
I have been looking for such an app for a long time and this one just serves the purpose!
I like the colors of that you have used.
The app is very light and simple (as it does only one thing)
Suggestion:
Can I have an option to always show an icon on the status bar. So that I wouldn't have to launch it manually to start no sleep mode on my phone?
Thanks

It's on the to-do list aswell, but i can't assure you it will be in the next update, but expect it to come
Nice app but Polish translation is made by bing or Google, right?
"Wakey-wakey, Wayne!" *Batman Arkham City reference*.
Great app btw, just what I was looking for.
a widget would be nice. :cyclops:
Creative Icon idea
Loving this sweet little app
So...I made this just cuz i got bored hope you LIKE IT https://docs.google.com/open?id=0Byxlw5J4qbOvWUlLYkJPN0dOX1k
Update: 2nd Version of logo https://docs.google.com/open?id=0Byxlw5J4qbOvdHJ4Zlo5OGQ5WWM
PS. It would be cool if you told me the kind of font you used so I can make it match the one im using.
Hi dev, this is cool app!
But, I think it will be better if you can make it to selected apps, not in general. For example, you need the screen to not turn off on Adobe Reader application, then you can select the Adobe Reader as the application to always in wake up screen.
I hope you get what I'm trying to say.
Keep it up, dev! :good:
Great app,thanks for developing it!!!
I'll have to agree with "agayabag" would be ace if you'd add the possibility of choosing what apps should or shouldn't have the screen on wake so that each time you open a selection of apps you d'on't have to activate/deactivate wakey.
Anyways, good job so far, keep up the good work

Actually I'm from Poland, but i live in Italy since i was a little boy and i didn't have the luck to study grammar and polish language at school, i had to study it bymyself (like with english)
I know it's very wrong i did it in a hurry with google translate because i don't have a polish keyboard and i can't write polish letters, i will have to take the time and fix it, maybe with the help of someone who knows how to write better than me xD

On the do-to list but with a low importance, you can put a shortcut in the meantime, i'll add a permanent notification (you'll be able to enable this in the settings) and you'll be able to toggle it from there

Yeah nice idea, but it looks very complicated, does anyone know how to check what app runs in the foreground?
Thank you very much for all your feedback
For those who left the comments on the play store thank you very much, you're helping me greatly to make wakey more popular and discoverable by others
I would love to make a video commercial of wakey to put on youtube, do you have some ideas for a nice one ?
Yet Another Wakey Wakey Suggestion
Though many custom ROMs have the ability to keep the display on if the device is charging, many stock ROMs don't have this feature.
My suggestion is to add an option to keep the display on if the device is charging.
Another suggestion would be to add a minimum battery level. When the device reaches this battery level, Wakey Wakey would automatically disable itself.
Thanks for a great application.
Keep up the good work...

Good idea with the charging thing, i'll add it to the to-do list
With the battery level that's a bad idea, someone might want to read even if the device has a low battery level, disabling wakey would be annoying to the user, theres a fast way to disable it in the notification bar, so if you see it's getting low you can just disable it manually

The battery thing would need to be configurable for battery level and activation. That way the user can decide if he wants to use this feature or not.
You could even add a pop up saying "The battery level is below your threshold, would you like me to disable Wakey?" or something to that effect.

But i don't see a practical use to this feature, android itself gives you a pop up when the battery is low, so then you can decide to disable wakey.
Also wakey doesn't use any of your battery, the screen does, so if you disable wakey and you keep using the device the battery will deplete at the same rate.
So if you see your battery getting low you should stop using your device to actually affect the battery life.
Due to high demand i'm working on the widget now, it's already working, now i just have to figure out how to change the ImageButton from a service
Nice app, thank you.
I'd love to see it with a function for turn on or of the backlight of phisical/capacitive buttons..
Complimenti.

Wake up screen home button
What i would like to see is an app that wakes up/ unlocks my Note 5 screen when is turned off. And that doesn't effect the battery that much, like 5-6 percent all day usage. Thnx
Thats not possible anymore unfortunately.
Works great but itd be nice to have a quick toggle to turn this function on or off easily without having to open the app as it interferes with fingerprint verification. I see the blacklist option but I haven't been able to get that option to work, and I tried multiple apps that required verification.
Thanks for pointing that out. Found the bug. will be fixed in next release. Uploading soon.
No blacklist needed for that
I'll definitely keep an eye for the update, I went ahead and got pro cause I really like this app VS other similar ones as there are more options.. And I think having blacklist is better than having to need to toggle on and off
How different is it from the app finger touch
It is way way slower than fingertouch service app.

I like this a lot more than the other one, no burst of vibration on even half a second touch.
One down side is vibration is not consistant, sometimes I get a single vibration and other times dont get vibration at all, which I much prefer.
Nice work nevertheless.
This works great thanks, can i ask you what icon pack you are using in the above picture, your setup looks great, many thanks
Uploaded easyHome v3.11
- Fixed: Fingerprint authentication in browser or other apps
- Stability improvements
- Fixes & optimizations

Depends, if you use long press actions it surely waits shortly. But if you activate speed mode its instantly.

You dont even need to blacklist in new version. You can authenticate in browser or similar and after this easyHome will kick in again automatically.

easyHome was created over 1,5 jears ago. It has gained lots of features and functionality over this time and works pretty flawless currently.
You can use long press actions, haptic feedback, blacklist apps and authenticate in browser or similar without problems.
So far the new update seems to be alot better, I haven't been able to go through all of the verification needed apps to make sure but my most important ones are working.
I personally like this app over fingertouch because of the hold to launch an action, and also having the feedback option to be able to discern when a proper action was attempted or not, is a big plus for me. Maybe not haptic feedback but having sound feedback is nice for doing the long command.
Fingertouch works great too. Having a nougat quick tile is nice for when things aren't working properly. But although any tap on the sensor will go to home, since it uses your setup fingerprint signature for a reference in some way, if the finger your using isn't one setup in your system it will vibrate like a failed fingerprint attempt. I only have (1) thumbprint setup for verification in my phone but I don't always use that setup thumb to tap to go home. So I was constantly getting an error vibration and it threw me off. Also with fingertouch, you have to toggle on and off when needing to use fingerprint verification since it doesn't have a feature that will allow you to do both actions at the same time.
Yes, but i have to buy it... Other app is free and does the same.

Basic funtions are also free here plus you get a blacklist option.
And 1,49€ for the full version is really not too much i hope.
Fingetouch is a great app too. You luckily have the choice on android
Yes, they are. It is a good app. I don't know why, but today it restarted my s7 edge for 2 times. Never had a restart in a year by phone itself. I uninstalled it and it is ok. :/

Using easyHome since i created it and never had a reboot so far...
Yeah, dont know what happened. Maybe some conflict in processes. Your app is great. Cheers.

I've been using this app very heavily the last two days as I'm off of work for a short period. Once I installed the update in the OP , I noticed that the only real issue I've had at all, is sometimes if I enter into either the Google app or Chrome but on e I enter those programs easyhome no longer works, it shows it running in the notifications but untill I turn my screen off and right back on, the easy home function doesn't work.. I don't have that problem at all if I try to enter in samsung Internet beta.. Only really an issue when using GA, otherwise I use samsung net.
I had another little hiccup trying to verify a purchase on Google play but I'd imagine that the nature of the beast when turning the senor into a capacitive button. I went to purchase an app and it immediately prompted me to use my worded password cause fingerprint wasn't available at that time. I closed easyhome and then I was able to use my print.
I recently started using easyhome and a double tap to wake app to save my ADD button presses and i really like both
When I open folder from home screen, start an app within folder, and touch home button, this takes the screen back to the folder, not back to the home screen.
UPDATE
Samething when I repeat the above procedure, from app drawer folder instead.
Just wondering, is this intended?
