Certificate import - HTC Desire S

Hi!
Please help me a bit.
I need to import 'TC TrustCenter SSL CA I' to my Desire S (S-Off, 2.3.3).
I downloaded /system/etc/security/cacerts.bks, imported the certificate inside (I used Portecle to do this).
Then used GingerBreak 1.20 to gain temporary root access and uploaded the file to the device.
The problem is, that when I restart the phone, the file is not replaced (even if I delete it, after reboot it's back with stock certificates)
Would anyone help me?
Thank you a lot!

If you need root, you will have to s-off your device or make paulobrien release his TEST RUU FIRST

Thank you a lot for quick reply, but I managed to gain a temporary root, but the keystore file looks to be generated on every boot...

With S-ON, the underlying medium for the /system partition is read-only - so even through you think you can write to it, your changes are buffered and get lost when you reboot. Temp root is necessary but not sufficient

(TOOL) Perma-Temp Root with *R/W* & Stable!

Thanks goes to #TeamWin for Temp Root
This is For Windows only, if you wish to make it work for linux or mac help your self...
Remember, This is still a Temp Root & any Changes made will be Rest back to stock on a Reboot
It's stable & works 100%
I Personally have not lost Root with this new Method
Q. I thought RW was Fixed?
A. Caused by Deleting an apk / file that was already deleted. Journaling shows it still there!
Keep Track of what you delete, as trying to delete something off system that you alread di hangs the /system into RO state.
Before Using!!HTC Sync Must be Turned OFF
Put the Phone into Charge Mode only ( Not Disk Drive )
USB Debugging Must be Turned on
What's Fixed:
Revamped due to new Method:
~ Superuser Apps now Function
~ If you Lose Root, all you have to do is Open terminal & type SU then type fixit! > No More Rebooting & running the exploit again for R/W on system to get Root back in place
~ Fixed R/O Bug!!
~ R/W is now Forced
~ /system is fully editable now! until reboot that is.
~ Busybox is installed to /vendor/bin
~ hex Edited libext4
~ hex edited libfuse.so
~~ This is the Last Update due to it working & Stable ~~

Q. Is this permanent?
A. no, it's a temp root method..
Q. Will I lose SU Access at some point while running the OS?
A. You might, but open terminal & type fixit to get root back!.
Q. What about apps that need a reboot to use superuser?
A. Use Fast Reboot form the market for app that need a reboot..
Q. Can I push & remove items to system & will it work?
A. Yes, but all changes are reset on a reboot.
Once Downloaded, Unzip & double click on the Run_ME_fre3vo_Root.bat File & Enjoy long lasting Root!
OLD NEWS:
Everyone knows that currently with any temp root, you still lose links to the SU Binary & Busybox links, it's just a matter of time before it happens!!
So after digging around somewhat I found an over sight that HTC might use later for system updates via /vendor/bin, who knows at this point though... Anyways, after amount of time the SU Binary along with busybox links if be in system/bin or /system/xbin gets deleted / removed..
Now, what I did was enable the $Path to /vendor/bin which is in the Sensation export PATH..
Any Calls made from this point either be SU or Busybox don't get deleted nor touched from any App requesting the SU Binary!! I've tested this with alot of apps & the Root sticks in place..
Other than Reboot, it might as well be a Perma-Temp-Root!!
I am Asia Sensation..Can i use it?
thanks loads
will give feedback
seems to work the same as before, cant wait until we can permanently change /system files
Thanks a lot !!!
I think the new thread it's beter, for the noob not confusion
with the old one
Great update. You should seriously consider talking with agrabren since your making temp root so much better. And I'm assuming you still can't permanently delete system apps right? Just permanently delete them for the time being until a reboot right?
does this still remove the bloatware as per the previous release? looking at the .bat doesn't seem to remove the apks in the manner/or at all?
Fantastic. Works great.

Even though Root Explorer is granted SuperUser, I still can not modify system files. I also can not actually overclock with SetCPU 2.2.4. It will show the max as 1728000 but it will never scale above 1188000
The process is extremely easy and very user friendly though

I really hate to add to the chaos, but no matter what I do. I am not able to get this to work properly. I have HTC sync turned off, and debugging and mock locations checked off, but when it gets to waiting for device, it just hangs, and never picks up the device again. I tried to remove the wait for device commands out of the .bat file, and it gets through but when I attempt to use even titanium, it says root not achieved, and will not let me through. Yes superuser is installed.

EDIT: I finally got it to work. The last two downloads of the files must have been bad or whatnot. I redownloaded a third time and it was the charm! Disregard this. Love your work Eugene!

Playing with the debugFS root

OK, so a debugFS rooting method has come out for various other devices.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1704209
I've been playing with this with a thought to getting into the OneS without the HTCDev unlock. These are my findings to date:
* Creating a symlink to the /system mblock allows viewing and editing of the /system partition. Changes to the partition come out as follows on reboot:
* New files- Deleted
* Changed files- Roll back to the original contents
* Permissions changes- These appear to stick. As an example, change the permissions on something like /system/build.prop and on a reboot you will still be able to open as a non-elevated user.
I tried deleting from within debugFS and then symlinking across, but this gives me a file is already present error. (Obviously it's not)
What I'm not sure about is the correct way (Possibility) to create a cross partition symlink within debugFS. I would head over into that thread, but obviously postcount is a minor problem
Does this get us any further forward?
If this can work, sweet
hopefully someone can do some magic with this

Not many interest
You got me thinking
Did you check the other root methode for usefull stuff in de root.bat file?
Sent from my HTC One S using xda premium
Yep
The debugFS root method essentially follows this process:
* Symlinks the device node to a local writeable folder.
* Reboot and you can then access the raw device through this symlink.
* Using the debugFS binary, you can then write anything you like to the raw filesystem.
The 'other' devices this works on retain these raw filesystem changes over a reboot, but the One series appears to perform a hashcheck (or similar) of it's /system at boot and from there regenerate any files it considers to be damaged, and deletes any newly added files.
If I could figure out where it's triggering the regen from, it'd be childsplay to do this (We've got the key to the lock).
Trouble is at the moment, something triggers the regen, and if I don't know whats doing it then I'm stuffed.
Some more info form a dev or anyone would be great.

Take it from me, I know
I suspect it's a part of the secure boot process, but I simply don't know enough about that to start meddling in there.
I'm fine with anything vaugely Linux related, but I've never really looked into breaking through security.
I'd halfway wonder if symlinking to the root device for /boot and then doing a dd of a 1.78 based insecure boot image would work, but I'm very reluctant to dd onto a running filesystem.
It'd be so much easier to try some stuff if I could get to unmount/ remount the filesystems properly, simply as trying to dd or use low-level access tools on a running filesystem isn't clever *at all*

How to copy to /system/ folder?

Hi there, I'm very new to all this android stuff, but i'm currently trying to get a sim unlock code for my one s. For this I'll need to copy a file to /system/ but Android Commander has so far told me I need root access (which i thought i had) and ES File Explorer has just said copy failed. Any help would be appreciated greatly
There is an option you may need to enable that will allow read/write access in es file explorer. Also, your SU program should request SU rights if it hasn't already.

I suspect it is to do with a 'soft root' issue, or so I keep seeing. Now I'm trying to use SuperOneClick but it just hangs at step#7, ive been having a lot of issues with the device being recognised in things such as HTC Sync.
I guess a better question to ask would be, is there another method to root i can use to get full access?
I'm not sure which tool you're using but sometimes connection issues are because usb debugging is not enabled. Did you get as far as flashing a custom recovery?

Superboot - HTC One root solution [requires s-off]

[Edit: This requires s-off currently.]
Superboot is a boot.img that when booted, will root your device the first time you boot (installing su and the superuser APK). No need to flash any partitions, no need to mess around with ADB, no messing with the contents of your data partition, no overwriting the shipped ROM on your device, just boot the boot image using the instructions below and you're done!
APPLY THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!

How to use Superboot - Windows, Linux and OSX
Download the Superboot zip file above and extract to a directory
Put your device in bootloader mode - Turn off the phone then turn on with the 'volume up' button pressed to enter the bootloader (see note below)
WINDOWS - double click 'install-superboot-windows.bat'
MAC - Open a terminal window to the directory containing the files, and type 'chmod +x superboot-mac.sh' followed by './install-superboot-mac.sh'
LINUX - Open a terminal window to the directory containing the files, and type 'chmod +x superboot-linux.sh' followed by './install-superboot-linux.sh'
Note: You need to unlock the bootloader on your device before you can enter bootloader mode - use the htcdev site to do this.

You could potentially attempt to use tacoroot (universal HTC exploit) and backup your entire /system/app and /data/app folder and then post all of that up so people can get it after they unlock bootloader
But other than that, unless you can find a security exploit that allows you to inject root, then no

HTC's devices have a protection layer called "S-ON". It prevents you from making changes to system files, even when you've got root.
So you'll have to get S-OFF using Sunshine (which costs $25) or install an "insecure" kernel.
