Alright, so im new, and pretty new to this rooting schin-ding, got my Captivate rooted, but since im in Canada and on a rogers network, im wondering how i get back to my rogers start up on my phone even when unrooting. it keeps showing up as "ATT, World Phone" when i turn on my phone, and everthing is in american apps and so on.
Is there anyway to get this phone back to the state it was, or am i stuck with this att start up? sorry if this is a "newb" question, im frustrated greatly

Hi guys,
I'm new to the forum. I've tried searching for some answers but can't seem to find how to resolve the problem. I'm quite new to using PPCs so let me know if there's any information that you guys need.
So my phone works fine in Canada using Rogers... but everytime I go to US, I cannot detect a network for my phone and there's a "!" at the top. I tried searching for a network and it says "no network found" or sometimes it tries to register and then it fails in the end. In US, my phone automatically shuts off... I have no idea how this happens but everytime I go to look at my phone after leaving Canada, it's off. So when I go to turn it back on, there's no phone signal. I have no idea what to do as I'm not very familiar with PPCs.
Thanks for the help!
Which phone are you trying to use? Guessing Touch Pro?
Is international roaming or data roaming added to your account with Rogers?
Hey I have the HTC Touch Pro... yeah I've used this sim with my eten m700 before and it works fine. It just always seem to be searching for a network then it can't find any.
Thanks!!!
are you a prepaid customer? if so, Rogers doesnt allow roaming outside of canada.
Hey there... Just figured I'd pipe in here...
I am still using a TyTN (shopping for a Touch Pro today), and although I was able to always use my phone in the states, since my last firmware upgrade (WM6.1, new radio stack)....
....I can't get any service when I cross the border.
SOMETIMES I'll get 10 minutes of service over the course of an entire day. Very strange.
It is obviously firmware-related... Good luck with your phone...!
Thanks for all the help guys...
Nope I'm not a prepaid customer... should I be upgrading something on my phone to see if it works? Sorry... really don't know much about PPCs here!
just out of curiousty, have you called Rogers to ask for an updated OTA to be pushed to your SIM?
I've contacted Rogers and they said it has nothing to do with them... it's my phone! Should I contact them for the OTA? I'm sorry to be so noobie but... what does OTA do?
Thanks again!
Anyone help please!!!
I just bought this phone about 3 days ago. When I received it, everything worked beautifully. It was already rooted and network unlocked.
Foolishly...FOOLISHLY...I tried to play around with updating the ROM to something newer than the 1.5 + Sense UI that it was running. I screwed it up, and then decided to "rectify" my problem by flashing the latest Rogers update to the phone.
That got my phone to boot back up again, but as you could all probably guess, I was then presented with the Rogers E911 issue of not being able to access any data network, and being locked to Edge.
I had no idea about any of this, and am now hoping that one of you can help me salvage my brand new phone that I just paid $260 for.
Rogers HTC Magic 32A
AT&T service
HBOOT-1.76.0010
CPLD-12
RADIO- 6.35.10.18
I am locked to Edge only for voice now, and am locked out of any data usage. As far as I can tell I also lost my root on the phone.
I called AT&T, and I am fine from their end. I even placed my SIM in a friend's phone and I was able to access 3G right away, so that's not the problem.
I called Rogers, and they told me since I am not a Rogers customer, than there is nothing they can do for me and that the problem must be with AT&T, not them.
I tried to fill out that Rogers online waiver, but it would not accept my IMEI number.
After reading and researching everywhere for the past 48 hours I thought I might have found a solution with CursorSense32A, but then I was not able to perform the required actions.
Can anyone help me in any way? Please.
Thank you.
So, I figured it out!
Apparently the APN setting were erased when I updated the ROM. I created a new AT&T APN and then seconds later everything worked perfectly again.
Just an FYI, you are a bit confused about the e911 issue and Rogers.
There was a bug in Android that would cause the phone to reboot if you called 911 and had GPS on. It took Rogers a few months to start caring and then forced updates out. Anyone who hadnt updated had data access removed. This was done on the Rogers network and wouldn't have affected you on AT&T.
well the good thing is, is that your data is up and running.. bad thing is, is that you now have a non-rooted phone.. and stuck on perfected spl.... if the phone was rooted and unlocked running 1.5 you probably were running cursordroids rom, since you tried to install another rom, you probably didnt check to see if it was for old or new radio.... since cursors runs new radio, you probably installed a rom for old radio.. hence why it didnt work.. now you installed the latest rogers rom.. and your hooped.....
^^^^^ Pressure, had it going on now is locked
Hi, I bought a NS4G off my friend yesterday, and the first thing I did was return to stock 2.3.4, and update to 4.0.4.
I plan on activating this phone, but when I tried *2, I got "Welcome to Verizon" activation procedure. I checked out my PRL's and it's P:52690, which I found out was PagePlus, I did *#*#786#*#* and reset the RTN.
Now, I just need stock PRL/NV images, or whatever else I need to do to get this phone back on Sprint.
Never flashed a phone before, bear with me.
EDIT:
Figured it out, flashed back to Sprint.
I gave my rooted TMo Galaxy Blaze to a friend on ATT. ATT SIM installed, unlock code worked fine. Talk and text on ATT is fine. But no data. searched: Added a new APN.still nothing. Friend called/visited ATT. ATT says: We see it...It should be working..all apn settings are correct...no reason it isn't working....they checked the account and the data plan...It will work they said. But no luck. Could it be the sim card issue I have read about? Thats my next step. Ask ATT to change out sim card. is that reasonable? I'm at my wits end. My friend is 8 hours away..so I'm trying to figure this out long distance. I'm a noob..(you gotta start somewhere).but I have searched and searched and I refuse to give up. Friend is ready to give up..go to TMobile...but I am too stubborn! He shouldn't have to do that.
Someone at a private phone shop looked at it for him. Told him the data problem could be because of the root. Wanted to charge him $40 to "undo" the root. Yes, I rooted the phone but I never changed the ROM. I got nervous about deleting bloatware..afraid of which ones were safe..but the root process shouldn't affect anything right?. Any help is appreciated. I will keep looking for answers.. My next goal is to upgrade the gingerbread to ICS. I think I can do that..but I have some learning to do.
Keep in mind this is my friend's phone and not mine, I just did all the modding for him.
Was on CyanogenMod Jelly Bean ROM for about a year, and then a month ago it started only being able to get a data connection at 1x speeds.
Went to fix it today by going completely back to stock, used this guide to go to 4.1.1, which is what I just finished up doing.
Rebooted and everything is working with the only difference between this phone and an untouched one is that it is rooted, and it is still having the same data connection problems. Was hoping there would be someone left in this forum with a similar experience that can provide some insight or advice....
My friend went to the Verizon store and thought it would be smart to tell them it had been rooted, and then they told him that was the reason it was messed up and there isn't anything they can do for him, which I don't believe considering the phone was completely factory stock when he went down there.
I'm about to flash CWM back on the device for the time being so I can restore from the backup I made beforehand but I'll redo anything if someone has a fix. Otherwise I have to tell him he's stuck until his upgrade at the end of June.
Also, while on this connection it can't do anything on the internet or get OTA updates.
Might be a bad SIM card. Go to a different Verizon store and ask for a new one. This time DON'T tell them it's rooted.
