Has anyone heard of an Android Telstra Smart-Touch (ZTE T3020) because I bought one a few days ago and I cant seem to find anything on this phone about Custom ROMs, Rooting etc. It would be really great if someone could tell me how to Root this phone because im going insane on trying to root this phone and could you also help me find a Custom ROM, thank you

How to find a custom ROM:
Throw your ****ty Hellstra Smart Touch in the bin.
Leave house.
Spend more than $100, buy something which is actually worth having.

I have one of these dog **** phones at the moment as I'm waiting on my SGS2 which arrives from Mobicity (via Hong Kong!) next week. I can honesty state that this is the single most useless piece of **** imaginable. I'm not a huge fan of people who troll, but this comment made me laugh my arse off!!!
Dude, go buy a better phone... seriously!! You could have got an HTC Wildfire or something... anything!!! The ZTE may be cheap, but it's money down the drain!!
I bought this phone when I was on 2 weeks holiday around Perth 2 months back. What a surprise for a cheap phone. I found it to be awesome given the selling price at **** Smith with the free car charger offer & $10 starter pack. I love the responsive resistive touch screen UI which I found to be far smoother & better than my LG Optimus One capacitive screen which cost about 3 times the price of the ZTE T3020. In fact I liked the phone so much I that I bought 3 more units before departing back to Malaysia. Each of my teenage kids & wife are now happy users of the ZTE. BTW they downloaded so much apps that the phone quickly ran out of internal memory.
So this is what I’ve done to the phones:
1. Unlocked (free using the imei) & by inserting a non-Telstra carrier sim card into the phone.
2. Partitioned the free 2GB SDcard into fat & Ext2 partition with Minitool Partition Wizard on my Win 7 PC
3. Rooted the phones with Universal Androot app
4. Installed Link2sd app to transfer other installed apps from internal memory to Sd card partition & free up the phone memory
5. Also managed to install IGO 8 (QVGA 240x320 version) which ran well on the phone without crashing. GPS tracking was accurate.
Until a ROM upgrade to Froyo is available, worth exploring how far we can push this baby. Maybe it’s time ZTE T3020 owners start sharing here...
Is there a way to reset pattern lock on this T3020 or hard reset??
Cheers

you say "1. Unlocked (free using the imei) & by inserting a non-Telstra carrier sim card into the phone."
But don't you need a number to enter into the phone? and how do you get that, do you have any special software to generate it ?
I would really appreciate help with this, it might be a cheap phone , but for the price it has a lot of interesting features.
imei number? ,take battry out to see number ,plenty of vids online to show you how to do rest just google it, network unlocking is very easy.
HEARTCARE has done what you need to get most out of this phone,
i dont use android market or any googleapps and other useless preloaded apps
which i have removed
a realy good launcher for this phone is called NEMUS 1.1 this launcher is only about 1.7mb
compared to the17.4mb for the stock launcher ,nemus has great features like
app hider and auto oriantation and icon press changer and other tools ,i use as defalt launcher
and after you backed up your apps wiv "titanium backup pro" you can delete stock launcher from phone thus giving you more space ,as i do with all apps once i used them ,then iam able to restore any app anytime i need to use them "android zip pro" is my most used, i zipp evrytthing saving even more space ,i have tryd evry app out there (alot of crap outthere)to get most outa this phone

Sorry to add my two cents worth in an old thread, but as a woman who has particularly long fingernails, is one a very few phones that has a resistive touch screen, which I can use. I also have a capacitive phone, which even with having to go out and buy a stylus for, it is not as good as the cheap little T3020.
Personally I do not like the dumbfones , as I have a PC and internet at home

I thought I would go ahead and make a general thread for the Cricket Huawei Ascend until something more concrete comes along. My apologies to the Mods if the word “Official " is not approved. I just want a section where people can post anything and everything about thier Android Ascends since, well, as we all know, XDA rocks and people are more inclined to look here first then any other development website!
So, post up folks! There are a few of us who have these phones and are pretty well versed when it comes to the ins and outs! I will post up some small write ups and what you can do to get a little extra bang for the buck in the speed department of things and I am sure a lot of others have valuable and up to date information!
I’ll start by posting what I have said about this phone in another thread.
Rooting this phone and removing some of the pre-installed apps and files is a must.
z4 root works great with this phone. Nothing towards Superoneclick but lets face it, its way to complicated for the average user and even then, it's hard to get working. z4 root is a total win in this case, I have managed to delete half the junk the phone came with and have noticed a slight performance boost although it's not much to brag about with a 600Mhz processor. A custom kernel is almost a must as well. I can not play non market games, it's slow if you try to multitask and is all around slow coming from an expert Droid user.
Lastly, the Swipe keyboard. Who ever would want to use that! What a slow nightmare it is to try to type with Swipe in my opinion, I deleted it. The stock keyboard is not much better. Get " Better Keyboard ", it's not nearly as laggy and it can actually keep up with fast texting.
BUT, there is a bright side to all the cons ( almost all the cons )
Rooting, deleting junk and downloading Better Keyboard makes this phone an awesome entry level phone that can hold it's own with the mid range phones. It's no Evo by any means, but, it's a step closer to becoming an affordable real “smart phone ".
The ability to overclock would make it 100% indeed a smart phone and more then capable of holding it's own vs. $300+ phones. It's a project phone, you get what you pay for but, if you have a little time and patience, you too can own a get Android device with no contract, low monthly payments and hours of entertainment from the Android platform. I, am sold on this phone. I have owned other Android type phones and I can honestly say, this phone can be some competition.
Sure it has a poor quality LCD screen and can be buggy out of the box, but like I said, a little patience and determination is what makes this phone enjoyable. And, after all, it's not like it needs constant maintenance. Just a few steps to take out of the box and your set. For $150, I can't complain now that my phone is working like an Android phone should work.
Phone runs a lot smoother without all the provider apps.

Awesome a thread for the m860. I've been messing around with this phone for past couple days. I have mine rooted and all the bloatware removed. I wish someone would come out with some custom roms already for this phone. This is only my 2nd Android phone ever. The first one was the htc hero, which i could do whatever i want with it and it worked great on cricket.

I'll let you know, I'm almost finished with the theme, I just need to make the text readable in a couple of places, namely the system clock and the menus that pop up when you press the menu button...
ALSO I wanted to remind everyone, if you haven't done so already, "everyone should request support for the Ascend for the clockworkmod rom manager, that would be the real first step to getting some real modding done on the Ascend, I nearly bricked my phone a few times working on that theme, I had to reflash my phone back to stock 3 times.... which really sucks. Contact page is here for clockworkmod http://www.clockworkmod.com/contact and here is the contact email address [email protected]"
With the clockwork mod it would be very trivial to experiment with the phone, because if you/I mess up the phone wouldn't need to be flashed back to factory just flashed back to just before it was messed up, which would be awesome....

As for clockworkmod i don't think koush will consider it... :-\ because i been trying to contact him for the past two months and no answer... he even came out with a guide to do it ourselves or to send him one of our androids for a built. I mean i could understand the guy he must have other important matters to attend to but if he want it to he can make it in two days with his kind of expertise. I think were gonna have to port ourselves a flash recovery and sent it to him so he can make it official.

Those instructions aren't very detailed, they seem to assume that you've done an android build before...
He says he will do it if we loan him a phone, but I can't be without my phone for a week. The Ascend is cheap enough($109.99 on crickets website, it may have to be activated to get that price, but it's $150 in stores), I propose that we all donate a bit of money and purchase one to send to koush, the clockwork dude. It wouldn't take many people to donate for us to be able to do this...
I setup a paypal button for it
https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=ASD4X4W4ANV3Q
As far as when he is done with the phone, I'm up for suggestions as far as what to do with it, we could sell it and then return as much money as possible back to the donors... However if I had an extra device to mess around with I would definitely use it to learn how to make custom roms, I would use it to try to port 2.3 over to our phone. Other than that I'm up for ideas...
We have an opportunity here to make some great things happen with our phone, let us not forsake this moment!!!!
If you think this is a good idea, either link back to this post or post the paypal link with the explanation to other Ascend forums or threads...
I'm down to donate $30... I will keep everyone updated as far as how much money gets donated...

Hey guys , i took the plunge and bought a WIFI only Xoom a little under a week ago and so far i really like it . though i did question the purchase after seeing the lack of apps in the market that scale to the xoom's 10 inch screen .
I have been reading around the forum and trying to decide if i want to unlock and root my xoom .
I love flashing kernels and such to my HTC Desire but I was wanting some input as to whats really out there for the xoom and is it worth doing .
I think the xoom is rather speedy as it is stock , so is the tiamat kernel really worth doing ?
also , reading around the net i see that the Google Movies addon (when it comes to wifi only xooms) will not work with rooted devices .
this is a big negative to me and the family as we justified the purchase of the xoom on a lot of features including the movies in the android market .
so , please chime in if you dont mind and let me know what you think about the above .
At the moment the main kernel available is Tiamat's, or some other variations on more or less his work. These are great kernels, but are mainly useful for overclocking. If you do not intend to do a lot of intensive gaming and are happy with your current speed on the Xoom, then overclocking really isn't a big need for you.
Considering your situation, if I were you I would leave my Xoom as it is, unrooted for now. That way you can get the Google Movies when they arrive as you stated that was a very important feature for you. If after a while you decide you are not getting as much value out of that feature as you expected, or if Google changes its policy, there will always be time to root your device later. Also by that time there may be more kernel options or Ice Cream Sandwich hacks to flash.
You are not closing any doors by not rooting/flashing right out of the box. I just can't see any compelling reason for you to root at this point....and a couple good reasons why you shouldn't for now. The Xoom is a great device and has more then enough to hold your attention without flashing.
I haven't rooted my Xoom, nor have I rented out any flix. The tiamat kernel (from my understanding) enables SD card and allows you to overclock.
I don't ever 'rent' any content, and I'm willing to wait for an update that will enable the SD card. You can watch your own movies just fine on the Xoom, and watch TV shows from the network television sites.
Android Market tablet apps are still too few, but that should change quickly this summer as many more Honeycomb tablets are released (of course, we thought that would have happened already with the release of the Acer and Asus tablets).
That was my main thing the sdcard not working and is what keeps me on the fence about xoom or galaxy tab 10.1. So does rooting it get the sdcard working fully with little to no bugs? Cause that may help me decide

As long as you are willing to take responsibility for your actions if your brick or otherwise roast your device I dont' care what you do with it. If I may rant for 5 seconds I'm becomming increasingly irritated with people who are coming in here... breaking their Xoom's and then crying for advice and the advice being given is "take it back to the store and swap it out". No, that's called theft.
I think rooting is probably 100x safer than overclocking though which is where most of these people seem to get in trouble.
Other than that, welcome to the Xoom and I hope you enjoy it. I really love mine and could probably go on for half an hour about what I use it for.
Here is a quick and dirty list of apps that I find myself using daily:
- Pulse
- Paradise Island (lol)
- PocketCloud (paid ver)
Entertainment I find myself dabbling with almost daily:
- Pinball HD
- Riptide GP (both paid, very fun)
- Splashtop (for remote WoW, lol... also paid)
Other stuff I use daily but isnt downloaded apps include the browser obviously, I also use Firefox to access intranet sites (like sbs2003/sbs2008). I use the heck out the mail client. I also switch back and forth between the facebook app and using the page in the browser.
There are probably more tablet oriented apps than you think by now, as I find that new ones are coming out every day and some of them are really good.
If there's anything particular you think you'd like to know about just ask

No it doesnt. The possibility of data corruption exists. ASUS and Acer have implimented Kernel hacks to enable SD support. My personal vote is to wait for Google to properly impliment SD support and be satisfied with the more than ample 32GB of on board storage.

About the availability of apps with coinciding tablet release.... some developers just aren't in a position to go out and buy tablets I guess which is why I'm very happy to see Google give 5000 units away at their I/O even if someone of them went to dip**** bloggers.

thats good to know, thing just looks really small
I cant see a great deal about this Tablet on here asides from one thread asking for a dedicated forum to be created on XDA which as far as i can see hasn't be done yet, i got an email....
http://www.komplett.ie/Komplett/pro...TAB210_v2_4GB_Android_2_1/TAB210/default.aspx
and immediately the price struck me as being incredibly cheap for a Tablet especially in rip off, recession hit Ireland where everything is expensive , ive never heard of Yarvik before a search on Google leads me to believe they are a Dutch company, i realise this Tablet cant compare with the Motorola Xoom's,etc of the Tablet world but the specs for this price look pretty good to me and for those on a budget this would be ideal but the only reviews i can find for this are on YouTube in Dutch language i think.
Does anyone have one of these Tablets and if so can you give me the lowdown, can you flash Honeycomb onto it and hack/root it,etc, etc.
cheers
Anyone at all?
I do not have one but it looks like a repackage of one of the other tablets. Right now, you can do better that that unit for about the same amount of money. If it were me, I would look at the color nook and go that route. The unit has support and it does not have a locked boot loader so you can do anything to it. It is about 130 quid, but retails @ 155 +/- I have one and did look at all the cheapo off brands but looking into it further I went with the Color nook. Glad I did, keeps my flashing/modding addiction fed...and happy .......
Let me preface this by saying I'm about as tech-savvy as Betty White, but I *am* dutch, a translator, and have been looking to buy one of these myself, so let me just recap what I've gleaned from the dutch reviews and forums I've found so far:
-As a rule folks seem to be pretty happy with their purchase. It won't blow you away, but it does a very decent job for its price range.
-I'm not sure about Honeycomb, but folks *have* successfully replaced it with Froyo and there seems to be a fairly active community hell bent on forcing it to do things it was previously unable to do.
-Android Market is not included and will not install properly (although there are plenty of alternative sources and manual installation of apps to make up for that). It *will* install and run if the device runs Froyo, but that comes with its own downsides (reportedly the computer can no longer recognize the device's microSD card when connected, ie you can't browse its contents although it still works on the tablet)
-Youtube won't work via browser but will run on the youtube app
-apparently the logo/button labels/sticker on the device fade very quickly
-a fairly common issue seems to be that the device sometimes refuses to turn on (even though the battery still holds a charge) until connected to the charger again
-the wifi occasionally vanishes (which seems to require nothing more complicated than a reboot to fix)
-a few folks have mentioned the device refusing to start up and reporting a fatal error, but this magically fixes itself after a few hours of waiting and proceeds to work like nothing happened.
That's about all I know so far, hope it helps
Oh and P.S. the likely culprit for the device's not turning back on without being hooked up to a power source is a battery management app, removing this seems to fix that problem for some, and a few people report a strange glitch in which the device reverts its date back to 1970 each time it's turned off.
Thanks for the response, sounds interesting, theres someone on eBay Ireland selling this tablet for €149 when i sent them this Komplett link they responded saying they were aware of that and Komplett are making a loss on this strange response as it doesn't make sense for a retailer to "make a loss"
Anyway for this price im sorely tempted until such time i can afford as ASUS EEE Transformer or Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.V or similar tablet with Android.
Today Froyo launched a new ROM.
Android 2.2 V3 with working market.

Is there any hope for rooting the Nextbook Premium 9?
I have a new Nextbook Premium 9, and it has been limited very tightly by Efun, and I cannot find where anyone that has posted on the Internet has managed to root it. The problem is the tight memory limitations (kills me having that much free space on the device and no access to it).
I have done all that I know to do: add a 32gb micro-sdcard, and used ADB to install some stubborn apks, and set the preferred target of installations and data to the sdcard. I moved everything over that can be moved (it has Android 2.3.1). I cannot fit the apps that I really need all at the same time. I can uninstall and reinstall from the backups on the card... a pain, and it limits its usefulness.
Not having Market is a pain, but I can live with that with help from Amazon and others. But it doesn't do me a lot of good as tightly locked down as it is. I have an Onda VX610W coming (if DHL ever decides to move it out of Hong Kong to me) with ICS already installed, but its too small for what I am using the NextbookP9 to do. I need the Nextbook for my presentations. It has the larger screen, and I just need it.
Please, is there anyone who can help me or who can point me in the right direction. I need help with this one. Thanks in advance.

Simular situation. A friend tried to root his with the 8p's root. While it worked the touchscreen doesnt work.
So how do I go about figuring out what driver I should compile and throw in the image?
I am still looking for a way to root the Nextbook Premium 9
The Nextbook Premium series are rebranded Kohotech Tablets, and I think I am about to dive into the nightmare of trying to get technical support from a Chinese company. Efun is 'less than' helpful, and the response I got to the request for help left me gritting my teeth. They are selling the new 10 inch Kohotech that carries Android 4 ICS. This is done before they fulfill their promise to upgrade the other Premiums to ICS. That would help, but not solve the memory problems.
I bought the Onda VX610W I mentioned, and even though the Nextbook has a superior resolution than the Onda and a camera, the Onda flies circles around it in performance. It came pre-rooted from the company I bought it from.
The Onda has ICS and the Nextbook Gingerbread, and the processor of the Onda is an Allwinner A10 (faster than I expected). The Onda came with 8gb internal memory (I have a 32gb micro-sdcard due here tomorrow), and the Nextbook came with 4gb and has an external 32gb sdcard. But the majority of the Nextbook's internal memory is untouched, with no way to move anything over to ROM without rooting. When you see the performance side by side, the difference kind of hurts when you consider what is in the Nextbook.
I think though, most of the operational difference has to do with the fact that the Nextbook is so walled up that it is difficult to access its memory and other parts of its hardware (having difficulties using its magnetometer). It just doesn't have enough memory to function well, and most of it just sits there idle.
I have a 32gb micro-sdcard in it, and have used the Android Debugger to have it default to moving a lot of the apps to the sdcard instead of internal memory when installed. It helps, but it is continually slowing or locking on operations that should not bottleneck it (doesn't matter if they are in internal memory or the external sdcard). I have to push the reset at least twice per day. What I am doing on it should give it no great grief, but it does. The Onda makes the problems with the Nextbook all the more obvious. The problem is that the screen on the Onda is going to finish making me blind I think. I need the Nextbook. I don't really want to have to consider this a wasted tablet.
I understand from other discussions that the Premium 9 is very brick-resistant. Its a good thing, because I am ready to experiment. If I just want to watch a movie, its okay... but if I try to really use it, it works about 1/4 of the time. It has good hardware, but it is just so walled up. Nooks are apparently easier to root than these.
If anyone can help, I would really, really appreciate it.

I have a rooted android running on the 9P ... just need touchscreen drivers for it
When you get it running... touchscreen and all, then please contact me again. I need the help. I have run into a glitch on the Onda and it is consuming my time right now... trying to avoid reflashing it, but it seems the best option. I can't keep my little hands off of things when they are working just fine it seems... always trying to find out what can work better. Its a life-long trend, and at this point it seems kind of useless to try and stop.
Anyway, whenever I find out why I have wifi connectivity and no network interface on the Onda, I am going to switch my focus back to the Nextbook. It is actually running better than it has run before because I unloaded a lot of nice apps to give it more breathing room. But it kind of sacrificed the purpose to which I got it. There is no balanced compromise with that one... I have to root it when it is possible, to free up memory and maybe to upgrade past Gingerbread. They are offering the new 10 inch tablet with ICS installed right now. I checked with Kohotech, and there is almost no difference in the Nextbook 9 and 10... even more alike than the 8 and 9, but ICS changes it a lot.
I have a device running 2.1, 2.3 and 4.0, and let me tell you... despite the obvious similarities of them all being Android, the 4.0 does some neat things the others just can't, and it is smoother.
Got to start with rooting the thing, though.
If you get the screen working, then I would like to hear more about it... thanks.
UPDATE: For some reason, the permissions on this page suddenly would not let me post a reply, which I really need to do. Finless on Freaktab.com has produced a working custom rooted rom for the NEXTBOOK PREMIUM 9. He also included the original stock rom in case of emergencies. I have not tried it, but according to others, it works. I just finished downloading the files and will try it tomorrow after a nap.
I request permission to post a new reply in this thread. If you will let me, I will post a link to the thread found on Freaktabs that has the solution. I will first try out the ROM myself though. I was about to sell this thing to a friend in frustration.
It has such a beautiful display, I think I'll keep it with the 1gb USER APP space and access to Google Play that he gave it. He said he could do more, but 1 gb will make the thing workable... especially since he got rid of the bloatware bogging it down. But there is hope for the Premium9 users now. I sent tech support at Nextbook an inquiry about upgrades to ICS as there was some real indication of an upgrade. They said no plans were in the works for upgrading the very bogged down unrooted Gingerbread ROM it comes with. GET THIS: they suggested that I buy one of their "new" series of tablets (like... 5 months after the Premiums hit the market) instead. Hey, just forget the $200 or so dollar investment and buy a newer one with ICS from us... also unrooted. No thank you. I have an Archos on the way and own an Onda. I don't think I want another unrooted bogged down tablet from Nextbook after just getting this one. Except for having 4gb instead of 8gb memory, the hardware in the thing is pretty sound. But it was the locked down rom that made it a misery to use. If it works out, I will post the results.

Certinally. Because this was passed to me I was responsible for returning a working device TODAY so I ended up buying a brand new one >.>
Any news regarding this Nextbook Premium 9 root + market? I will receive one this week but... it seems that I will regret having it...
It would be awsome if some dev put his hands on one...
I also own a Next9P and also would like option of rooting this device... Are there any devs. mildly interested in working on this... I have some limited funds if it would help.

Me too please....
Just tring to keep this topic alive as I would like to see developement on this platform myself. I got my hands one one of these lately.
I have managed to get a rom dump of the Nextbook Next9 NXM908HC
The romdump (done through adb) reported successful dump all exept config.gz where I wound up with 0 bytes. I read over there that the custom rom for the Next8p runs on the 9p but drivers are wrong for the digitizer on the 9p.
Here is a link for the dump on the Next9 NXM908HC if there are any takers for making a custom rom out of it.
http://isurf2.com/droidwork/next9/
A cyanogenmod7 version for it would be much appreciated, but I wont hold my breath.
--Brink
thanks for the dump. I will see what I can do over the next week.
If someone knows how to root...
If someone knew how to root this tablet maybe I could get a dump with the config.gz intact.
For those looking for rooted nextbook9
Head on over to freaktab.com. A fella that goes by Finless (administrator) AKA Bob has done us all a great service by putting together a rooted, debloated nextbook9 ROM.
I have tested it on my nextbook9 and found that it works.
BTW: When he says debloated he means it. This is positively the most stripped down ROM I have ever seen and I've been flashing custom builds since the windows mobile6 days.
If you found this information useful, don't forget to click the thanks button.

Inside the custom rom found on that page at freaktab.com look for app injector. This takes care of the too stripped down to be usefull. With that you can add the market (Play Store) gapps and the other apps that come with the stock rom.
--Brink
I tried the ROM from Freaktab and it worked great. My 9P is rooted, I have the full android market. The ROM utilizes more memory, boots faster, and seems to run apps faster. What more can you ask for?!
So go to the link posted by Brinkley... Oh and BTW, thanks Brinkley, I followed the link from your post and that is why my P9 is now rooted.
Cheers, TooSlow
the freaktab rom is ginger not ics is there a root/debloat rom for ics ?
I have the Nextbook P10SE. I just flashed a few different ROMS for it, including a JB rom. only problem is, inverted screen and touch.
which of course renders it useless. Finless rom has the touch correct, but the image is rotated 180 degrees.
the JB rom found here on XDA (look for Rockchip ROM) has the screen oriented correctly but the touch is rotated 180 degrees
sigh.
try kingo root, that software does root almost every device that i know of. i have been there with a device that is unknown or limited and you cant find any thing at all, thats why i start to build my own stuff. Try kingo root that would be first step and then cwm .
Okay, I know I don't post much in XDA, but I do read a LOT of threads!
The reason I am posting this is because I am wondering if anybody achieved root on this phone.
I have tried KingRoot, KingoRoot, OneClickRoot, none of those work.
It is running Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.
I am about to screw around with ADB, see what I can do. I'll post back when I have got something.
Sorry if I posted this in the wrong section, I don't post much on XDA.
any luck?
I've tried every root method available without the PC and nothing. But, there maybe good news. In developers options there's a switch to unlock the bootloader. Now I'm no dev but I hope this makes cwm or tarp easy for devs to port and root.
I found https://mobile.twitter.com/srsroot/status/810325782417592325?lang=en srsroot claims it supports ZTE Z833. I've used srsroot once before but on another phone I have no PC so I can't test it but someone should test Cydia impactor see if it works.

1. I too saw that twitter SRSRoot business and tried it thinking, "Oh joy!" no, not working. Tried it every way you could (yes Kingo, KingRoot, vRoot, iRoot, FramaRoot, uRoot, & we-all_Root (the last two were jokes don't be so serious, nor was it a complete list of what I did actually try, ha!) too). I even wrote the people at SRSRoot telling them that it didn't work and have gone back to download their latest versions, still nada, zip, zero. FML on toast!
2. Cydia Impactor is not for Android devices, it is only for iOS. I went and double-checked just to make sure I wasn't trippin' thinking that maybe they have gone cross-platform. No, they have not.
3. I have the phone in question, I submitted a formal request on here in the best way I could find to get it added to the XDA devices list and I have been eagerly monitoring awaiting the day it happens. I was even considering trying to compile TWRP myself, but I just bought a different phone because I was tired of the headache. I couldn't figure out how to extract the zImage from it in order to give it a go (I think that's what it was). Anyways, I'm writing this before finishing reading the rest of the posts and may be rambling, but I had to respond. I have spent much time doing this. I ended up buying a different MetroPCS phone called the Samsung Galaxy On5 and was able to successfully root it and after much waiting finally got ahold of the Superstarz ROM that finally went out for that one. Just an FYI in case someone happens to see this before making the purchase. I will say that I feel like the ZTE Avid Trio Z833 has pretty good response time for such a cheap phone, then again they had a deal on it in the store, it looked to be more expensive at retail pricing. Anyhow, I digress, but felt the need to contribute rather than just lurk.
Oh, and another thing... The development option to OEM Unlock is "checkable", but as for actually booting to the bootloader it WILL NOT DO IT. The only way this is gonna happen to be rootable is if you use a custom recovery (which none exist yet) in a tar format and ODIN the friggin thing from download mode. So, there's your catch 22. If anyone knows how to extract the zImage and whatnot (without root obviously) I'd be more apt to give it a go and boot my happy bunghole into Linux and give compiling TWRP another go. I finally have had a lot of life stresses temporarily die down since I decided not to leave my current living situation and just stay with these irritating bastards another month at a higher rate. FML & Cheers!: good:
I should mention, however, that SRSRoot attempted to use it's "Exploit 8." So, I went digging into it's directories to see what the script was, but it was binary (and I didn't have reverse-engineering **** handy like PE-ID, and whatever else the kids are using in this newer age). So, I was like "wah-wah", but if any experienced ppl know more about the specific exploits that aren't ancient and actually working with Marshmallow that would be interesting to hear feedback about as well. Thanks. I really would like to use this second phone still, but right now I'm just using it as a Kodi/Megabox HD + AllCast Projector to watch streaming things without having to interrupt my working phone in the middle of it. It would also be cool to use as a straight VOIP phone with no cell service connected, but I've yet to find the free Google Voice VOIP loophole that is currently working. PM me if you know of these
P.P.S. I wrote another spicy post on hardr3set dot info about what crap I felt about their B.S. (weaksauce compared to anything legit which we all know you come to XDA for the meat-and-potatoes) because I was so tired of searching the Goog for root ZTE Avid Trio Z833 and having it be the top result over and over. Finally this has risen up. Thank you for starting this. Oh, and also, please... If you would kindly also request for this device to be added formally, maybe it would encourage development. Not sure how all that works, but yeah... power in numbers right?
Sincerely,
~Ye of little faith
Bump
are you telling me that faults advertising runs ramped all over the internet even Google play store and this is the nondoing phone ever made and it can't be jailbroke nor rooted
Rooting your zte device
Can not be done. This phone is an unfortunate accident by ZTE with numerous problems and they are not small issues but ones that affect the performance of the device. Replace that phone or your only adding to your daily stress.
That kingroot and oneclickroot don't work
For this phone
a
Guessing this is a dead issue? It's an okay phone but lags horribly when it comes to multi tasking
Hey I don't want the root thing to die on this topic. So would it be possible to root via ADB update in recovery mode? Or to somehow update via SD card and applying root? I refuse to give up hope on this device lol
Anyone made progress on this? I just got this phone and it definitely has some issues, but I feel like root would resolve most of them.
Has anyone figured out a way to root this device?
I've searched for a long time without success. I hope something comes up.
Any progress on this? Thanks
following, bought one this morning hoping to have a cheap rootable phone.
I got mine from MetroPCS for $29. lol Yes, it's frustrating and has got problems (I've already put two of them through my dashboard and had to replace them, within the first 2 months, but it only cost 30buck so WTH. Anyways, I decided after I destroyed #2 that I was only going to use it for work and add no apps to it, except maybe GasBuddy and Winamp. Other than that, it's stock and I haven't had any real problems with it to speak of (problems aggravating enough to make me want to destroy it yet again).
So my suggestion to anyone who owns this phone, or is thinking about owning one: Don't install any more than a couple small apps, add a 32GB uSD card for music and other stuff, and use the thing as a phone and a media player only. The camera is pretty much worthless for quality photos, so there's really no other use for it. But it makes a great txting, voice calling, and music playing phone!
Of course, if you end up paying more than $30 for it, you probably paid too much. But it sure is a pretty nice phone for 30 buck!
Yes. root it please
I have a Z833. The phone only lags apps that are over 100mb I'll have test this out agin
I have ordered one of these phones for $20 should be here by Monday. When it arrives I'll be able to confirm if its bootloader is unlocked or not. In the meantime here is the firehose and support files (rawprogram0.xml and patch0.xml) as well as the MetroPCS B16 firmware to be flashed with QFIL or MiFlash. This will allow people to recover their device and hopefully if the bootloader isn't locked flash custom images.
