Official Huawei Ascend Thread - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

I thought I would go ahead and make a general thread for the Cricket Huawei Ascend until something more concrete comes along. My apologies to the Mods if the word “Official " is not approved. I just want a section where people can post anything and everything about thier Android Ascends since, well, as we all know, XDA rocks and people are more inclined to look here first then any other development website!
So, post up folks! There are a few of us who have these phones and are pretty well versed when it comes to the ins and outs! I will post up some small write ups and what you can do to get a little extra bang for the buck in the speed department of things and I am sure a lot of others have valuable and up to date information!
I’ll start by posting what I have said about this phone in another thread.
Rooting this phone and removing some of the pre-installed apps and files is a must.
z4 root works great with this phone. Nothing towards Superoneclick but lets face it, its way to complicated for the average user and even then, it's hard to get working. z4 root is a total win in this case, I have managed to delete half the junk the phone came with and have noticed a slight performance boost although it's not much to brag about with a 600Mhz processor. A custom kernel is almost a must as well. I can not play non market games, it's slow if you try to multitask and is all around slow coming from an expert Droid user.
Lastly, the Swipe keyboard. Who ever would want to use that! What a slow nightmare it is to try to type with Swipe in my opinion, I deleted it. The stock keyboard is not much better. Get " Better Keyboard ", it's not nearly as laggy and it can actually keep up with fast texting.
BUT, there is a bright side to all the cons ( almost all the cons )
Rooting, deleting junk and downloading Better Keyboard makes this phone an awesome entry level phone that can hold it's own with the mid range phones. It's no Evo by any means, but, it's a step closer to becoming an affordable real “smart phone ".
The ability to overclock would make it 100% indeed a smart phone and more then capable of holding it's own vs. $300+ phones. It's a project phone, you get what you pay for but, if you have a little time and patience, you too can own a get Android device with no contract, low monthly payments and hours of entertainment from the Android platform. I, am sold on this phone. I have owned other Android type phones and I can honestly say, this phone can be some competition.
Sure it has a poor quality LCD screen and can be buggy out of the box, but like I said, a little patience and determination is what makes this phone enjoyable. And, after all, it's not like it needs constant maintenance. Just a few steps to take out of the box and your set. For $150, I can't complain now that my phone is working like an Android phone should work.

Phone runs a lot smoother without all the provider apps.

I'm working on getting this phone deodexed, if there is anyone else with this phone that has some technical ability or experience with odex files, let me know, that way this can go a lot easier and quicker... If not, I'll figure it out myself...

If i knew how to deodex maybe i could help? Teach me?

Awesome a thread for the m860. I've been messing around with this phone for past couple days. I have mine rooted and all the bloatware removed. I wish someone would come out with some custom roms already for this phone. This is only my 2nd Android phone ever. The first one was the htc hero, which i could do whatever i want with it and it worked great on cricket.

I'll let you know, I'm almost finished with the theme, I just need to make the text readable in a couple of places, namely the system clock and the menus that pop up when you press the menu button...
ALSO I wanted to remind everyone, if you haven't done so already, "everyone should request support for the Ascend for the clockworkmod rom manager, that would be the real first step to getting some real modding done on the Ascend, I nearly bricked my phone a few times working on that theme, I had to reflash my phone back to stock 3 times.... which really sucks. Contact page is here for clockworkmod http://www.clockworkmod.com/contact and here is the contact email address [email protected]"
With the clockwork mod it would be very trivial to experiment with the phone, because if you/I mess up the phone wouldn't need to be flashed back to factory just flashed back to just before it was messed up, which would be awesome....

As for clockworkmod i don't think koush will consider it... :-\ because i been trying to contact him for the past two months and no answer... he even came out with a guide to do it ourselves or to send him one of our androids for a built. I mean i could understand the guy he must have other important matters to attend to but if he want it to he can make it in two days with his kind of expertise. I think were gonna have to port ourselves a flash recovery and sent it to him so he can make it official.

Those instructions aren't very detailed, they seem to assume that you've done an android build before...
He says he will do it if we loan him a phone, but I can't be without my phone for a week. The Ascend is cheap enough($109.99 on crickets website, it may have to be activated to get that price, but it's $150 in stores), I propose that we all donate a bit of money and purchase one to send to koush, the clockwork dude. It wouldn't take many people to donate for us to be able to do this...
I setup a paypal button for it
https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=ASD4X4W4ANV3Q
As far as when he is done with the phone, I'm up for suggestions as far as what to do with it, we could sell it and then return as much money as possible back to the donors... However if I had an extra device to mess around with I would definitely use it to learn how to make custom roms, I would use it to try to port 2.3 over to our phone. Other than that I'm up for ideas...
We have an opportunity here to make some great things happen with our phone, let us not forsake this moment!!!!
If you think this is a good idea, either link back to this post or post the paypal link with the explanation to other Ascend forums or threads...
I'm down to donate $30... I will keep everyone updated as far as how much money gets donated...

[Q] New Inspire Owner First Time Android User Questions

I am loving this phone however I am not digging the lockdown that AT&T has put on it. I went with Android because I thought it was more open than iOS, the only smart device I really have any experience with thus far is a 2nd gen iPod touch. I know what I want from the phone but I'm not sure what I need seeing that a lot of the terminology is still greek to me. The only thing I'm pretty sure of is that rooting the phone is analogous to jailbreaking a iOS device. Things like flash, s-off, ROM, radio etc. start to get my head swimming.
I really just want to be able to get rid of the crap bloatware that is on the phone and be able to get apps from places other than the market (swype, amazon app store etc.) I like the sense UI and really like the features of the phone, I really just want to have more control over it. Also is it difficult to "unroot" the phone in case I need to have it serviced?
If anyone could lend insight I would be greatly appreciative. Even if you could point me to like a rooting android for dummies or anything like that would be great.
Google/youtube are your friend when it comes to learning. Also see the sticky in the inspire section of xda listing all roms etc. That sticky includes pretty much everything you need for your inspire.
As I was/still am an Android newbie, ill list some basics
Root - getting administrator rights to your phone, full control.
Rom - custom operating system for your phone, based off a stock Android OS, with mods, features, root, etc.
Kernel - used to relate operating system to hardware, control overclocking, etc.
Radio - software used to control communication, 3g, 4G, WiFi, etc.
Hacking the inspire is quite a bit more involved than jailbreaking an iPhone, as I also come from ios land, but there are good instructions and great help on xda!
Happy flashing!

Reading is your friend, I would say spend as much time as possible in the DEV section and read all of the things pertaining to rooting. If you read the threads completely and I mean every post you will find answers to every question you have.
There is no hurry in rooting your phone, it is not going anywhere and if you can live with the AT&T crapware for awhile you will learn alot. Pretty soon you will be ready to do it. It is always hard to take the first step but if you read everything you will be fine.
There is a very good FAQ section in the [DEV][GUI][RC2][GPL][3-21-2011] HTC Inspire 4G Simple One Click it will give you many answers to what you want to know and watch the rooting video on that thread also.
Good luck and have fun doing it because it is really more fun than what you may think.

+1.
Definitely stick to the hack kit and it's simple step-by-step process. Ignore the other methods that claim to be 'easy' and just follow that one carefully. It's the most reliable method with consistent results.
Make your own choice it is your phone and you have to do it, you spent the money so you make the decision's on what to do with it, not anyone else!!!

[Q] CASH for Root + Cyanogen, Chicago Area

Hello,
Been using Android for about a year now, and am looking for someone who wants to make some fast cash to get Cyanogen 7 on my phone. I'm currently running the myTouch 4G on T-Mo, and have Gingerbread 2.3.4 running.
I normally might attempt to do this myself, but knowing that I have to downgrade, and then Root, followed by the Cyanogen load... I'm too nervous that I'm going to achieve brick, not root.
Anyone interested in some [easy] money? Reply or PM me.
THx.

How much? I'm in Oak Park and just curious.
I've rooted 4 MT4G's, 1 recently(old one didn't agree with the pool), 3 G1's, a Desire, and a Nook, so I'm pretty familiar with rooting.
If i were you, i wouldn't relay on someone else. If something goes south how are YOU going to fix YOUR phone?
I know. That is something I've been wrestling with. Not sure how to do it otherwise. Wish I knew someone that I could trust.

Everyone has to start somewhere. I'd take a look in my new comers thread. Link is in my signature.
That is a good starting point.
My biggest concern is undoing Gingerbread and rolling back to Froyo. Other than that... the tools along with everything I've read seem pretty solid.
Damn Gingerbread.
I'm have the same issue downgrading with no home internet I was asking the same for someone in N.Y.C area. After a downgrade is done I can easily root and put a rom with no home internet.
guys, take your time, READ THE DIRECTIONS, and you'll be fine. you can do it!!!
I think the ideal thing to do would be to snag a cheap MT4G on eBay, and mess with rooting that way.
Then if I mess it all up, no worries.

I didn't even know what a zip file was,and now I've rooted,hacked l kinds of stuff,using adb,etc...but I did spend a lot of time reading about Linux,cell phones,etc...
Then,I read some more, and paid attention to the problems others had,and figured what to do,and what not to do.
Other words,u can do it.don't pay someone.

Thanks guys.
Will try it myself after a little more research.
The unlockr.com was a good place to start for me, real simple step by step tutorials and they have some good roms, ( linked to xda), to start with. I don't know if it has been updated recently but it couldn't hurt. Rooting took me like 10 min to figure out by the way, it really isn't that difficult of a process. Good luck!
The step by step wiki is SUPER easy to follow.
When I first did it I didn't know what half of the steps meant. But you just follow them in order, trust that the people who wrote them weren't playing some prank, and everything works fine.
It's more cutting and pasting from the wiki to your terminal screen than anything else. If you can cut and paste, you can root the MT4G
theunlockr.com seems to have very straightforward instructions on how to roll back to Froyo and then actually root the MT4G.
Once the phone is rooted and running a third party rom, if you ever have a problem with cell service, like not getting voicemails, or something like that, will Tmo even help you?
Do you have to reload the stock rom prior to ever making any service requests?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using Tapatalk
Yea they won't help if you are having issues with whatever rom you are on. No rom Is perfect so you might have issues like that, if you do you just load a new rom. Trolling around the forums is a good way to see what roms have issues and what dont. Team Royal, Unity, Faux123, CM7, and evil D (unity idk if he does work by himse
lf), all make solid roms. Rooting voids your warranty (as if you didn't know that), so if by any chance you destroy you phone, un root it first then send it back. One thing I have found however is that it is almost impossible to brick you phone, ( unless you are messing with the radios so DONT!, unless you know what you a doing), that is because you can flash a backup so, if you already knew that stuff...well sorrys! If not...your welcome.
Dont worry you can do it! I was super worried my self and it took me weeks to finally jump in but now theres no turning back for me!
I gotta say this community sure is supportive. Thanks guys! I gotta read everything on "theunlockr.com" a few dozen times now.
Anyone know if I'm starting from Gingerbread, rolling back, then rooting, then flashing CM7... How much time this should all take... Ballpark, assuming no problems?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using Tapatalk
If you're working straight through without putting the phone aside at each milestone like I did and don't get stuck with mildly confusing errors like I did twice (SD card file system mounting confusion and an untimely update to the Android Terminal Emulator app that screwed up the keyboard—developer has since fixed the issue) and failure to CTFM (comprehend, not read) what I was reading after midnight on the first night, I'd imagine you could get it all done within a couple of hours, including backing up the stock ROM and installing the engineering bootloader. However, I would just take it one step at a time and not rush through everything.
Make sure to back up your stock ROM. The CM wiki for this phone completely ignores that process as well as any information on how to unroot, and I think it's unwise to believe that you won't ever need to revert to factory settings once you switch to CM.
I took bits and pieces from four different guides to revert and then root. I did what was most logical between the guides because none of the four that I used were as comprehensive as I think they should be for a complete newbie. The one that came closest in my opinion was the root guide for the HTC Panache from the HTC Glacier XDA wiki entry. That said, I'm not new to shells nor phone modding, so I figured it all out eventually. Installing the new ROM was the easiest part for me, followed closely by rolling back to Froyo. The middle part—rooting—requires the most patience and understanding of what's happening.

Why Not Root?

Why wouldn't somebody want to root their phone? I just don't understand why. I mean maybe they're worried about warranties or wanting to return the phone, but that's all I can think of. Does anybody know why people are so scared to root? My friend just refused to let me root his phone because he thinks I'm "breaking" it.
Lay out the advantages of having a rooted device and an unrooted device. Try not to mention returning a phone or warranty issues, because that isn't totally relevant to my argument with my friend (he is NOT turning in his phone anytime soon ). Right so I'm just curious. I can't imagine having an Android phone and it NOT being rooted.
Pros:
POWER (so much power)
BLN/BLD/Voodoo/Touchwake/OC/UV
Custom Kernels
Custom ROMs
Proper terminal/busybox
Adblock
ClockSync (these android phones have appalling timekeeping)
General customisation (build.prop, icons)
And of course wifikill (this links back to POWER)
etc etc
Cons:
Warranty, though hardware should be under warranty anyway as long as it has nothing to do with software malfunction (power button, usb port, etc).
Damn windows drivers
Maybe if it requires a lot of work and they do not appreciate customization or control. Perfect iPhone user if you ask me.
My brother in law had a Droid X and you had to jump through 15 hoops to root it and flash custom ROMs. He has a Galaxy Nexus now and has no desire to unlock and root it. :screwy:
My coworker has a Xoom and a Bionic and has not rooted either. Then he was complaining how long it was taking for the OTA ICS to be rolled out.

for Nexus series , unlock and root is absolutely required , because they are google's sons and pure blood of Android , with Nexuses you can do all kinda things
Nexuses are for people like us who is DEV or likes flash ROM over and over and over ...
okay , i 'm sorry that off the subject.
but , honestly , for crazy users like we are do need it , because lots thing we do daily needs root access
but for a normal user , that kinda people who doesn't know much things about flash ROM or something , it's kinda not need to be rooted...
root or not , it depends on your usage.
for the people who only use phone to talk to SMS to Gmail and to browser webpage, what roots for ???

So you're arguing that unrooted is simplicity from what I gathered in that text lol ? I don't know. I'm still not convinced. I believe it is better to root. If you root you will finally be able to get that "one" thing your phone is missing. Ever single person in this world has had a moment where they say "I wish my phone could..." ... well it can if they root it
Nexus S - AOSP+ Neapolitan flavors 3.0, Glados kernel 2.8
For my friend, his reason not rooting is because he's really lazy. And the possibility of his phone bricking is too worry some for him to root especially when he doesn't really need to.
When I was deciding not to root or not was because of the warranty. I just realized I could lock it again and return it for warranty if anything
Well, how should I suppose to say this. The only reason I buy Android phone is because it could be rooted. And this is where all the fun is!!!
You'll only brick it if you're are "smart" enough not to read what the ROM or whatever you're using supports your phone. Warranty issues are not includes for just such reason lol. If somebody can give me 3 point how rooting is better I will praise you and my friend. So fair stock:0 rooted:a heavy amount
Nexus S - AOSP+ Neapolitan flavors 3.0, Glados kernel 2.8
I am always worried of the EFS folder
BTW : would that folder be at risk if the device is rooted ? and would rooted devices are at more risk that some app would screw an original one ?
Because most people only care about 3 things
1) Can it make calls
2) Can it send SMS/MMS
3) Can I browse the web
If a phone matches that criteria most are good to go
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk
I am not a dev, nor am I a programmer. The most I can do is follow instructions and edit simple things like font style and color in XMLs. I don't dare flashing bleeding edge stuff, so I always read reviews and go with something other people have tried first.
Still, I think that for an Android phone, rooting is much better than not rooting if you want to get the most out of your money. The performance and battery life can be improved, depending on the phone model, one can get a mild improvement (like with Nexus S) or dramatic change that makes you feel as if your phone gets a new life. Some people may not be inclined to backup often or spend time read up on XDA, but if they have a friend/relative who likes those stuff, it would be nice to have that friend/relative pick a stable setup and put those in (and set periodic auto backup for apps/messages). When others are whining "updates where? I have waited for MONTHS for GB/ICS", custom ROM users are already enjoying the new features.
Warranty still applies as long as you have the card. I've fixed the power button of my under-warranty LG Optimus One and they got it done with no questions asked. I know someone who had their Nexus S bricked due to wrong flashing and they still get to claim warranty.
If a person only uses their phone for calls, text and the occasional browsing, buying an Android phone is probably a waste of money.
Hey budday...
To answer the initial question as to why some one, but in this case I do not want to root is out of fear bricking my phone. Also I've found it fairly easy to customize without ..but in this case if you can lay out an easily read diagram or some sh!t then maybe people(me) will be more compelled to. Or for your sake make your argument a better one !
Especially with this ridiculously delayed OTA for my nexus ..and with no indication as to why! ? That's what I really wanna know!

LOL, i know what you're saying. but they don't do that to insult you or imply you don't know anything. They don't know who you are or how much you know. It is simply the best way to approach a problem. If a user said they did something, how do you really know? (e.g. user says they rebooted the computer. but what they did was log out and log back in)
Anyways, there are different reasons why someone might not wanna root. If they don't wanna hear it then stop pushing. who doesn't hate that religious guy insisting you go to his church? when you keep pushing people to root you are that guy.

Because most people only care about 3 things
1) Can it make calls
2) Can it send SMS/MMS
3) Can I browse the web
If a phone matches that criteria most are good to go

Any finished (decent) ROM does that better and it does ALOT MORE
Nexus S - AOSP+ Neapolitan flavors 3.0, Glados kernel 2.8
As a new Nexus S user who is yet to root, it is something I am planning on doing, but the shear number of ROMs and kernel's is very daunting, and it seems I'm going to have to set aside a fair few hours when I finally decide to do it. I'm sure once it's done I'll be hooked, it's just the initial jump that's delaying it for me.
Due to the huge number of people involved in Nexus S development (and this is not a bad thing by any means!) I am finding it difficult to find a suitable starting point.

Trying to install Rom

I have the T959v android phone, which I found out is a bit more complicated than my Samsung Vibrant.
I am running the gingerbread kernel after using Kies.
I have finally successfully flashed the T959v using Heimdoll following this guide. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21953878&postcount=2
Super User has been installed using SuperOneClick.
After struggling with it and reading on some sites it's possible and some sites it's not possible, I've come to the conclusion that Rom Manager is not a good idea to use, to install a Rom on my particular phone.
I want to install this Rom here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1402966
However I reviewed the instructions and found I was lost on some parts.
I know how to get to recovery mode (with the phone turned off, hold down volume up and down and the power button)
However, here's where I get lost:
6. Perform Voodoo -> Disable Lagfix.
I do not have this option, likely because I'm missing voodoo or some sort of app. I've tried googling this and figuring out what it is, but I don't even know what a CWM is.
I haven't tried (since I'm atleast smart enough to review information before I start following them, lest I get myself stuck somewhere and unable to back out of). However I believe I can get as far as Step 5.
Unfortuantely I can't get any further.
The only apps I have installed (besides the annoying bloatware on the phone) are the ones I listed above.
This is my first time flashing a phone or doing any of the above, previously my friend did it for me.
So I apologize for whatever Incompetence I may have, however if you can simplify instructions I'm pretty good at following them.
The hard part is that I don't know how to do a lot of the instructions.
Is there a video? Perhaps a guide with pictures that includes all the software I need and how to install that software?
I'm sorry for the questions, I hope someone can help. This has been a long and frustrating process but I'm determined to finish it.
Thank you in advance.
Ah also this: "Must have pre-installed kernel with clockwork recovery!"
I cannot do this because when I try and use clockwork recovery it says it cannot support my phone.
It gives me a list of 4 devices, none of which are my phone.
Then I click on "My device is not listed" and it states the T959v is not supported.
I'm really sorry for all the questions.
Not only does this app look nice, and sound nice due to hardware acceleration. Above all it gets rid of that bloatware crap from T-mobile.
I look forward to giving this app a try.
Hello my friend i know how excited you are when it come's to flashing, installing, removing apps on your phone, but before you do any harm to your phone maybe
consider reading this http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_4G before going further. it save's you a lot of time and headache plus you can avoid
flaming from other people here. and also try to use the search bar just i case you have further question's..
I advice you to take some time to read first on what do you want to your phone before doing anything.. don't be in a hurry we have tons of great roms in here..
Do not use clockwork manager...it is not for this device!
If you have super user ur rooted and good to go ...i would suggest you play around with the gingerbread roms for a spell before going to icecream sandwich roms, just so you get a feel for flashing on this device.....i too came from the vibrant and dearly miss it.
This phone is far from a vibrant but is coming along.
Feel free to pm me.....I may be a bit slow on replies since I'm working 7/12's 3rd shift.
Thank you both so much for your replies.
Warren I am checking that link out right now. Thanks
Shortbus, I miss my Vibrant too.
Technically speaking my Vibrant is still usable, but ever since I dropped it and cracked the screen it seems to have drastically slowed down (and the screen is annoying with all the cracks too).
Sad day for me.
I still want to try and get that Rom I had posted above working, as I doubt I'll move to another rom anytime after that. But I'll try and learn more about it using the link you gave me Warren. It'll probably take me several days ~_~
Shortbus I may email you with questions I come across from time to time if that's ok

If you want to install Valhalla Final - read the guide in the first link of my signature and begin where applicable.
I don't mind.
Flashing roms on this device is easy once you realize its not the vibrant lol.
Like the vibrant....this thing is near impossible to brick,....just a lil bit more complicated than the vib.....till you get to understand it.

Ah, so I should switch to Froyo instead of Gingerbread from the looks of it.
I'll get right on that I'm going to try following your guide now
edit: I saw that you switched to Gingerbread, jumped too far ahead of myself.
I'm getting pretty far along in the guide, I'm now at the part where I am about to install the rom.
I love that you guys respond so quickly too.
In the process of using Heimdall I ran into so many issues but was (slowly) able to work through them and figure them out.
It's nice to know I can come here if I have a quick question.
I'm not much help with heimdall....I use gremlin remover, its a one click Odin program....serves the same purpose....to bring you to a rooted stock state.

[Q] Need Root For BLU Studio 6.0 LTE

I am looking for a root for my BLU Studio 6.0 LTE model Y650Q preferably through Framaroot. I've already tried and does not work. Also, I'd be willing to donate towards a custom Lollipop ROM for my phone as well. Please let me know if this is possible. I had a BLU Studio 5.5 before this phone and Framaroot worked for it so I'm hoping it'll work or this phone soon. Willing to donate.
This is what I've found
Look at this page for Lollipop Rom. http://www.lollipop-roms.org/2014/12/blu-studio-6-0-lte-6900.html
I was looking for a one click root method as well. I think there aren't many options because the phone is still new. I'm looking to buy this phone. How do you like yours?
Honestly, I love it. I had the Note 3, and came on hard times so had to sell it. I got this phone a week ago and its seriously up to par compared to the Note 3. My husband has the Note 4 and I honestly like my phone better. I've been a Samsung fan since the Vibrant and feel bad for straying but BLU made a really kick ass phone! My ONLY complaint is that the touch sensitivity is a little high and find myself having to hit the back button but once I'm able to root, I know I can fix that. The camera is BETTER than my husbands Note 4. I honestly can't say enough about it. I really do love it.
Hi again,
Is there wireless tethering capability with this phone? And is the internal storage a true 16 gigs? I know it will only be 11 out of the box, but what I'm asking is, is the storage all one disk drive? I've seen these types of phones with partitioned drives, which I hate. One more question. Were you able to get it rooted and romed? Did the download link include a custom recovery? I would really love to get Cyanogenmod on this.
Yes, wireless tethering is a feature. I have used it plenty of times to connect my tablet with no problems. I actually have 14 GB of storage out of the box. I still have 13gb after all my app downloads. Most of my apps are on my 32gb SD Card.
Like I said, the link provided above isn't legit. Its basically a scam so no. I haven't been able to root it yet. I've tried Framaroot, but no one has found the exploit for this particular phone yet. I used to have the BLU Studio 5.5 and Framaroot worked for it, so hopefully its just a matter of time before someone figures out this phone.
I used an app called Towelroot on my Nexus 7 tablet. I believe it's supposed to work with most Android devices. I'm digging around trying to see what I can find out. It works just like Framaroot in that you don't need to use a computer to root your phone.
Just tried towelroot... No luck. Says my phone is not supported..
Crap! I was hoping it works. I need to make a decision fast because my current phone is really acting up badly. I like the specs, just want to be able to root and get Cyanogenmod. Only because I really love the new CM themes. I'll keep digging to see what I can find out.
is this real
Hey guys in found this... Not sure if it's scam or for real... 3 comments so far say its good... But this can be fake... I also want to at least root or better yet get lollipop ... So - http://www.how-to-root.club/2015/01/blu-studio-6-0-lte-6900.html

I'm sure it'll be rooted soon. The Studio 5.5 was rooted, so it's just a matter of time. This phone has only been out a month so I'm sure its in the works. If I were you, I'd still get it. But that's just because I love this phone.

I've already figured out its a scam. You can only "download" it by doing endless amounts of surveys and signing up for this and that and you never get the download link. Trust me, I've tried. And the XDA link he provides, isn't legit.
ImSoBLU, check this out
You said you tried towelroot. Here is a workaround for the phone not supported issue:http://www.naldotech.com/how-to-fix-towelroot-phone-isnt-supported-problem/
I stumbled across a site that supposedly had a Framaroot download, but they wanted you to jump through too many hoops for the apk. I'm not going for that. Either post the link or don't.

I checked that link you sent and it says to enter in some codes. There is NO where to enter any sort of codes so TowelRoot is still a no-go.
You're supposed to tap on Welcome to Towelroot three times. All my Android devices are rooted, so I have nothing to test this on. But I like what I've seen so far with this phone. I have a thL phone that I used Framaroot on. I hope they will find an exploit for the Blu. I just need a new phone because my current one has limited internal storage, the camera stopped working, and either battery is shot, or charging port is going bad. Have you ever installed custom recovery and custom Rom before? On your other Blu?
Yeah, I'm an intermediate knowledge of rooting and downloading and installing ROMs. It helps that my husband is a computer programmer and has been for 17 years so he knows quite a bit about this stuff and so its rubbed off on me. I did tap the welcome message 3 times. Then 10, then about 40 times. And nothing. My husband could root it via the computer but can't find the adb drivers for this phone. Or something like that. He tried and looked for everything and told me to post here and see if anyone's figured it out. If he hasn't been able to do it then it hasn't been done yet.
But it'll be done soon. I was able to root my BLU Studio 5.5 with Framaroot and did install a few ROMs on it but ended up sticking with stock ROM because I preferred it. So I know its just a matter of time before someone figures out the exploits to root this phone. Just hoping it happens sooner rather than later.
I bookmarked this page last week

Thanks, I think it might be what he already tried, but I sent the link to my husband and he's going to try when he gets home tonight and see if its different from what we already tried.

BTW, could ya send some "Thanks" my way for info I sent you about the phone specs? Noob member here and trying to climb up the status ladder
No problem, just did.
Haha, thanks! When my hubby gets home, we're going to try with the drivers you sent me to root the phone. If we get it I'll be sure to let you know and post the steps we took to get it done. Thanks again! And let me know if you find anything else out too. But I still recommend you getting the phone! The root and ROMs will be coming soon!
