Using my G2X/HDMI hooked up to my TV, the picture looks cropped. Can someone tell me how to fix this please? Also with NFS Shift, the picture looks blurry, is that normal?

Thanks for your time.

It is probably blurry because you have the TV set to FULL aspect and probably running a lower res that is getting stretched.
I have it running on my 24" monitor and seems fine. I haven't tried on my 55" LCD TV. The main OS is 800x400 so that getting stretched to 1080.
I use it on my 55" Samsung and it looks fine
The pic on my 55" Sammy was cropped on the edges and a bit blurry until I set the pic aspect to "Just Scan". (P-size was on 16:9). Everything cleared up.
hey guys were did u buy your cable ? or whats the name of the cable? plz help me out

When using the MHL cable to output the phone's screen to the TV, The video is not nearly as crisp as it is when I play it back later on the computer. I assume this is because the device is showing the compressed video form on the device which is what is being output?
Is there any way to output a better quality version to the TV? (App, etc) Has anyone else felt the same way?

I just picked up the MHL dongle last week. Works great! Love it!
I think VIDEOS I've shot on the Sensation look like 1080p/720p on my Plasma HDTV... to my eye at least. I assume that's what you're talking about....videos you've recorded or HD You Tube vids etc?
Are you for sure recording in HD? 1080p/720p?? I think by default, the Sensation is set to qHD res in the camcorder settings.
You may already know this, but for those who don't.....
The UI on the phone isn't going to be true HD on your HDTV, as the Sensations display is only qHD 960x540. 720p is 1280X720 and 1080p is of course 1920x1080....officially. There is NO compromise on the official HD resolution standard. It either is or isn't HD....qHD is a marketing term...it looks like true HD on mobile devices, but it's not truly HD.
As far as I can tell though.... it does indeed output true HD resolutions from media etc....but not the UI itself. Videos I've recorded look stunning on my plasma....the UI of course looks grainy.
Hope that helps somebody. If I misstated anything...please correct me
That's correct you have to manually change camcorder to 1080P mode.

Thanks! Yeah I am up to date on my resolution knowledge , and Yeah I guess it outputting it in HD, it just is a little jittery, and for fast moving objects (I was recording ping pong XD ) it looked much smoother when I pulled the file off and played it on the computer.
Where are you guys getting your MHL cables? Are they the official HTC ones?

qHD isn't actually marketed as HD... it's qHD because it's (q)uarter HD, as in 1/4 of the HD resolution. 1920 / 2 = 960, and 1080 / 2 = 540. Divide length and width each by 2, and the overall number of pixels gets divided by 4.
It's not just a marketing term.

Correct...it is actually quarter HD, of course....hence the "q". What I meant by marketing term is that a vast majority of people out there see the "HD" and may think it's actually HD...when of course it's not.

I have gotten a TF101 to test it out as a supplementary mobile client.
We are running Citrix and I have a desktop published throug Citrix Receiver. I have found keyboard and mouse that works with this wonderful machine but I want to have an external display also.
But I find the HDMI support quite bad. The content fills more than the TV Screen and I cannot change the screen resolution. I would like to have a larger screen resolution on the external display but cannot find any way to do this.
I have a LG Optimus 3D phone and on that I can adjust a lot of options on the HDMI port so it should be possible.
One snag: I am testing out this to be used in large scale for hundreds and eventually thousands of users so this needs to be working on completely stock operating system.
Maybe the Asus HDMI to VGA Adaptor is something to think about?

Ok. I got this one and it almost fills my need. I need to get a higher screen resolution on the external display. 1280x720 is way to small for a permanent workstation. At least with the tools I use.
Maybe I just have to wait for ICS to get this working?
Are you trying HDMI on a TV or a monitor? If a TV does it look washed out and a little zoomed in? TV's have some over scan options that really mess with the signal from PCs. Look around the menu options of the TV and see if you can turn it off, alot of em can't tho. Just google HDMI PC overscan and you'll get a better picutre of what I'm talking about.
For res I don't think it can do better than 720 and I've never seen any options for it. I'd call up Asus if your going to be making a decision that could mean eventually thousands of sales for them.
Also don't forget that they said they're launching the Windows 8 Transformer this year. That should suit your needs beautifully.
How are you accessing your Citrix Desktop? Using the Receiver? Or is there another app specifically for Citrix Desktop access?
EDIT: Never mind, the VDI i was trying to access was taken down recently by the systems team. Do'h. Time to build a server.
Me personally I've been using the citrix beta app, seems to work better.

I tried with the VGA adapter on my 22" samsung syncmaster and the desktop filled the screen perfectly. Via HDMI to my 42 inch HDTV I got overscan problems.
It is though the monitor I need to use to acheive my goal of using it as a citrix thin client. I hope we can manipulate the HDMI output more in ICS. It would be nice to use the monitor's native resolution (1680x1050).

Agreed. It has more options and seems more stable. Go figure.
The TF101 does not support greater than 720p output for mirroring. No word from Asus if they will ever bump it up to 1080p capability, since the Tegra 2 already struggles with 1080p video playback. You should wait for the TF700T for full 1080p output.

Actually 1080p is not what I need. 1280 is more than enough horisontal resolution, but 720 vertical is too little. If it could output 1280x1024 on an external monitor I'd be very happy.
What I say is that there should be an alternative to mirroring on the HDMI port. With the dock and usb ports the interal screen could be switched off and a resolution of choice be shown on the HDMI-connected display.
I just got the hdmi connector in the mail and it works great but when I play a netflix movie on the big screen it has 2 large bars on both sides of the screen as if it seems to be in a 4:3 format. Is there any way to fill the wholescreen?

I got the same problem using the wireless hub.
Hi, I have a Sony Bravia W6 42" and I was thinking that if I buy a MHL cable for the S4, then I will be able to connect the phone to the TV and will be able to watch movies in full screen, those 1920x800 resolution ones which are normally can't watch in full screen, without those disgusting black bars!
My question is, what about quality? Will the picture quality degrade if I watch via MHL, than watching through a PHD or a Pen drive?
If someone has already experience in this matter kindly input here.
Thanks.
No one? I really need to know this.
Interested as well

I've used MHL on my S4 and my LG3DTV so I'll leave my first impressions. I'll try it again tonight to just be absolutely concrete but here's my immediate thougths.
1.) You need to make sure your MHL adapter supports the S4. There are some 5 pin ones and 11 pin ones. I have the Samsung adapter so I'm fine but make sure you get the right one.
2.) The black bars are part of the aspect ratio. Our screen is 16:9 so if your movie is 16:9 it'll fill the whole screen. Some movies use wider aspect ratios so you'll get the black bars on the top and bottom. I'll check tonight if you get the bars outputting to TV. I can't remember that.
3.) I believe there is some overscan (rather underscan) when outputting via MHL. It seems like I had a black border all the way around when I played a few games on my TV with MHL and a bluetooth controller (which is awesome by the way). Some HD games did fill the screen and was a pretty decent experience (NFSMW, A8, MC4, Osmos).
Again I'll test these out tonight and post some pics with my other phone so you can see for yourself before buying anything.

Ah finally someone replied. If I buy I will buy the original S4 MHL, that's not a worrying factor. But as you said, there's some under/over processing, hmm, that's what I was wondering! I mean if you clearly see picture quality degradation while playing via MHL in comparison to USB devices (PHD or Pen drive) then I will certainly not be interested, I will take black bars happily over a poorer picture.

picture seems to show nicely providing the res is HD (1920x1080) otherwise some pixelation (as TV and Phone is Full hd)
i get some lag when tapping the screen and overlay to pause skip video appears but when the overlay minimizes video starts again at normal speed.
sound works fine.
if phone is in portrait mode then ull have black on either side on tv .
ratio for tv 16:9 16:10 is fine

Is that something you have to purchase cables for? I'm just wondering about from my phone to a samsung tv with the built it apps on the phone and tv.
It looks like mine is 1080p or even 1440p when I screen mirror to my samsung tv. Try a YouTube video on 720p then max resolution and see if you can see a difference.
