[Q] Stock Recovery Nexus S 2.3.3 - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it possible that my 2.3.4 update isn't working because of my clockwork recovery image ? Because if that is the case I would like to revert to the stock recovery image.
With clockwork my update gets stuck in the android with the yellow triangle and I have to pull my battery to reboot.
I have build GRI54
Can anyone tell me where to find that recovery image ? And hope that that is the issue that my update won't install.
Thnx in advance.

Your probably trying to install the ota update file .. That will not work on your gri54 not even on stock recovery .. Go to the general section and downlaod the 2.3.4 full rom for gri54 . You can install that even with cwm ..

Thnx, after not booting anymore, googling a lot updating the CWM recovery it suddenly started to update my phone and also wiping it. But now I have 2.3.4 unrooted.
Had something strange a long the way of getting there. the boot partition couldn't be formated anymore. The latest version of clockwork fixed that i guess.

[Q][GT-i9020a] How do I reflash back to factory?

Hi, new Android user here.
I was trying to root my Nexus S phone yesterday and I'm having problems. There is a lot of rooting guides out there and I used one from xda and also one from unlockr.com. Managed to root the phone ok (I think), but everytime I flash a custom ROM, the phone won't start at all, it just sits at the boot up screen and repeats itself.
So I'm thinking, I should just start over again. So I flash the stock ROM from xda back to 2.3.1. Everything seems ok, the phone starts up... but it's always stuck on airplane mode and the phone itself doesn't even show stuff like IMEI, mac address anymore.
So now I figure I've probably messed the phone up enough and need help lol. How do I go about reflashing the stock ROM and getting my Nexus back to out of the box condition (Stock ROM and no custom bootloader)?? Any guides or step by step instructions would be very helpful.
Thanks
Did you wipe before flashing roms?
Sent from my Nexus S c",)
Maybe flashing the KB2 modem would help that but the 9020a came stock with 2.3.3 and not 2.3.1 so that could be it...I'm not sure but that software wasn't meant at all for ours so it could be part of the problem. But if I was you I'd take a look at this thread wich has all the stock software for your phone. Make sure you wipe everything in clockework and then flash the stock rom. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13123996&postcount=39
dsixda uploaded the stock backup and the stock recovery, you can read more at that link, good luck hope it helps
You can download the full stock ROM from the link below:
http://goo.gl/8P8vl
Move the zip file to sdcard. Boot into recovery and flash the ROM. It should get you back to stock 2.3.4 ROM, all locked.

edit: well now everything is ok again, wiped data, flashed with CM7 and now it says 2.3.4, go figure.

[Q] *ClockWork Mod Recovery Issue.

Hi guys I really hope someone can help me with this. I was running CM7 Nightly rom and decided to try and flash eaglesblood 2.3.5 and it flashed ok but the problem is that when I tried restoring my back-up on it I get an clockworkmod recovery error. Any Ideas?
what does the error say?
most likely it was a bad backup and slim chance of restoration
did u do a full wipe before restoring?
Yes I did a full wipe before flashing and also before I tried to restore my black-up thru rom manager.I have flashed plenty of roms and this phone am not a total noob when it comes to this phone. I have never encountered this problem before. Before i tried going into recovery thru rom manager to restore back up thru CWm 4.0 etc, and it says I need CWM 5.0. I updated the rom manager to 5.0 etc and when I reboot and go into recovery (not thru rom Manager) and it says that it is the 4.0 etc version. Also is the 5.0 etc version blue? it jumps from 4.0 to 5.0 back to 4.0. This is a lil weird I went into recovery and did a restore from there and when I try in RM it comes up with error message Cannot restore cuz my CWm is 4.0 etc. thats when it jumps back from 5.0 to 4.0. I know this is confusing and by the way all the etcs you see are because I don't know the exact version. Any helps and thnx to whomever does.

You need to update thru NVFlash. Here is the link and everything should be fine after that. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1054492
Thanks guys u rock. I got the new CWM on there for nvflash. Now I am moving my saved back up zipped file from downloads to CWM on sd card after I zip it, so well see how this goes right now. THanks again
With the G2X don't use rom manager for your backup/restore. Boot directly into the clockworkmod that you installed with nvflash and do the backup/restore from there.

[Q] Trouble with 2.3.6 update on I9020a.

I've been in and out of these forms for hours now, and I still can't figure this out. I have an I9020a from Fido (Canadian). I flashed the stock ROM & modem from this post (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056062&page=68). When I try to flash the 2.3.6 update through CWM 5.0.2.3 I get the following

Now I know that some people say I need to use the stock recovery, however there doesn't seem to be any way to get that back. The post (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1033269) that everyone mentions has dead links in it, so I cannot download the stock recovery from it.
Can anyone help?

Have you renamed the file to update.zip. placed it on the root of the sd ard and flashed it by selecting the install update.zip option in clockwork. You cannot use the flash zip from sdcard option.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using xda premium
I tried renaming it to update.zip, but got the same results. I tried with Clockwork 4.0.0.2 and 5.0.2.3. Both of these are missing the install from update.zip option for some reason. I also tried to flash a recovery.img file that was supposed to be stock recovery from post (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1033269&page=4) but all it did was make the phone go to the screen with the ! in a triangle with the android logo beside it.
Have you been on stock the whole time? These errors usually mean that there is some different configuration than expected on your phone when using an update package. It could be your radio or your recovery and I have read that even different versions of google apps can cause this. I have seen this myself. Your best bet is to flash the full rom package for your I9020A with clockwork recovery to get you to 2.3.6 you can download here. http://android.clients.google.com/p...8148de0d.signed-sojua-ota-189904.0b9c8148.zip You won't receive any errors because it's a full rom package. You will however have to re flash clockwork recovery aftewards.
Had same issue coming from 2.3.4 I was rooted . Flash the full ROM 2.3.6 you shouldn't have to wipe. after flashing you lose cwr and root
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA Premium App
I tried flashing that ROM with CWM. It made my phone go into a boot loop. I even tried using the NAND 2.3.1 backup. That didn't work, nor did it replace my recovery with the stock one. I did manage to flash to a full 2.3.6 ROM that was pre-rooted, though that's not quite what I was going for. I was trying to get back to pure stock with the 2.3.6 update.

2.3.1 was never designed for the i9020a the first release was 2.3.3. A nand backup will never get you to stock recovery. when making a backup it doesnt save a recovery.img because you make the nand using the fastboot flashed clockwork recovery.img.
The link I provided for you is the full rom which is pure stock 2.3.6 for the i9020a Nexus S straight from Google. This is the update presented to me when going from 2.3.3 up to 2.3.6. If you flashed that you are completly stock including radio, kernel and recovery.
After if you want cwm and root back you have to fastboot flash cwm again and then from cwm I flash su.
I am in the same boat as Wolfgar2k. I am also in Canada and have a Nexus S I9020A with Fido. I wanted to ditch CyanogenMod and go back to the stock 2.3.6 version.
I tried installing the build that blowtorch provided (copy to SD card, rename to Update.zip, select "Install from SDCard"). The install completed without error but when I boot the phone, it gets to the loading animation (colourful X-shaped particle system), the animation then freezes and restarts, over and over.
Anyone know what could be going wrong here?
I have (finally) solved my problem. It turns out all I had to do was use fastboot to erase the cache (fastboot -w) and the phone no longer crashed on boot. Tons of thanks to blowtorch for posting that 2.3.6 build, which does in fact work just fine. I have my phone back!
So happy.
Cooper39,
can you guide me how can i do "use fastboot to erase the cache (fastboot -w)" on my nexus .. I am having the same problem

Might be the firmware that's not compatible with GB so i suggest flashing a GB firmware. As for your bootloader it sounds like u have a PB58img.zip (or similar) on your SD card. Put your SD card into something else and delete this.

Status 7 - Help please!

Ok, this is odd.. Never had this issue before.
I'm using ICS (custom rom) and yesterday I was trying to revert to stock just to check OTA on my i9020A but after a wipe and when I started to install 2.3.3 or 2.3.6 (stock) it gaves me an status 7 error and exits install. I've installed stock a few times before and didn't had any issues so anyone can help me out???
Thanks a lot!
When in doubt, Odin out.
Update to the latest recovery.
I'm already using the latest recovery :/
If you have the latest recovery from here, make sure you've downloaded the correct stock .zip file or that it's not corrupted.
