Status 7 - Help please! - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok, this is odd.. Never had this issue before.
I'm using ICS (custom rom) and yesterday I was trying to revert to stock just to check OTA on my i9020A but after a wipe and when I started to install 2.3.3 or 2.3.6 (stock) it gaves me an status 7 error and exits install. I've installed stock a few times before and didn't had any issues so anyone can help me out???
Thanks a lot!

When in doubt, Odin out.

Update to the latest recovery.

I'm already using the latest recovery :/

If you have the latest recovery from here, make sure you've downloaded the correct stock .zip file or that it's not corrupted.

[Q] DI18 OTA failed. How to remove CWM Recovery?

Hey guys, quick question:
I'm fully rooted/one-click CWM'd (stock everything, however), and I just got the OTA DI18 update notification. When I tried to install it, it booted to the stock recovery (blue text) and said something about verification of the signature failing...installation aborted.
Now, how would I go about either uninstalling CWM, or reflashing the stock recovery? I can't find anything that really goes into detail about any of this.
Any help would be most appreciated!

Same thing here, except I also had a overclocked kernel. What I did was use ODIN, there is a thread here. I downloaded the stock files full install.
1) Download full recovery image and Pit file
2) Open Odin and point to the PIT file downloaded and in PDA section point to the full firmware.
3) Check only Reboot and Debug in ODIN
4) Power on phone while holding 1 on the keyboard (it will go into download mode)
5) in ODIN press START and flash image
6) Then update to to the new image
7) Re root phone using 1 click
8) Install Clockwork Mod again 1 Click
9) update superuser
Have fun

well what i did is i download this file http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=786266 the i went to cwr and wipe data/factory reset thats only if u deleted any sprint apps... then flash it and u are good to go!!!
Whew. Worked with the full release (the zImage.tar failed and near-bricked my phone haha). Getting the DI07 update now, should hopefully see the new one soon-ish. Then I'll re-root and restore my backup.

[Q] Stock Recovery Nexus S 2.3.3

Is it possible that my 2.3.4 update isn't working because of my clockwork recovery image ? Because if that is the case I would like to revert to the stock recovery image.
With clockwork my update gets stuck in the android with the yellow triangle and I have to pull my battery to reboot.
I have build GRI54
Can anyone tell me where to find that recovery image ? And hope that that is the issue that my update won't install.
Thnx in advance.
Your probably trying to install the ota update file .. That will not work on your gri54 not even on stock recovery .. Go to the general section and downlaod the 2.3.4 full rom for gri54 . You can install that even with cwm ..
Thnx, after not booting anymore, googling a lot updating the CWM recovery it suddenly started to update my phone and also wiping it. But now I have 2.3.4 unrooted.
Had something strange a long the way of getting there. the boot partition couldn't be formated anymore. The latest version of clockwork fixed that i guess.

[Q] GSM Nexus S ICS 4.0.4 OTA update released?

Last night (27-3-2012) I had a notification pop up on my stock 4.0.3 (rooted with AIR kernel) Nexus S. It was a notification for an OTA 4.0.4 update. I downloaded it (it was about 17.5 megs) and when I tried to update it, it gave an error saying the package couldn't be verified (or something to that effect). I tried searching the SDcard and system folders for the update but couldn't find one. I tried to go to settings and recheck for update but nothing comes up. My wife has the same phone (a Nexus S) and she didn't get a notification and nothing pops up when I do a check for update. I'd love to find the update file and upload it for you guys but I just can't find the bugger. Anyone have an idea where to look? It was late and I didn't take any screen caps cuz I though Google was finally rolling out ICS 4.0.4 but I can't find anything online about this latest update. Any ideas?
EDIT: This is for GSM Nexus S's, NOT Nexus S 4G. My wife and I each have a GSM Nexus S with T-Mobile.
EDIT 2: See Meisze's post for the link. I'll flash it as soon as it downloads and I'll post some info.
EDIT 2.5: I tried to update but got Status Error 7. I'm going to flash the full 4.0.3 update, then the lite 4.0.4 update and that should work.
EDIT 2.5.5: ok, I get Status Error 7 when i try to flash the full stock 4.0.3 update. I'm going to flash 2.3.6 -> 4.0.3 -> 4.0.4 and see if that works.
EDIT 3: WARNING YOU CAN BRICK YOU'RE PHONE! I bricked mine in the process and just got it working again. I was trying to flash the 4.0.4 lite update and it kept saying Status Error 7. So I restore a backup of the phone from 2.3.6. Without rebooting I then flashed the full 4.0.3 update (ot error 7) and then the lite 4.0.4 (again, no error 7). I reboot and nothing... No Google/lock logo, no recovery, no fastboot nothing. I used Adams tool and get into fastboot. I tried flashing CWM recovery and still nothing.
I fixed it by doing this.
1. Used Adam's toll to get into fastboot. Adam's UnBrickable Resurrector program for Linux http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1397393 I used Backtrack 5 (Based on Ubuntu)
2. ran fastboot boot recovery.img (Flashed latest CWM touch recovery 5.8.0.2, renamed to recovery.img)
3. In CWM ran the stock 2.3.6 full update
4. Rebooted and everything was back to normal.
5. Went back into CWM, Flashed stock 4.0.3 full
6. Rebooted, everything still fine...
7. Went back to CWM flashed stock 4.0.4 lite
8. Rebooted and everything is working great.
Funny you mention it because I saw this today...

Not necessarily. The link posted here is only for an upgrade from 4.0.3. No one has posted a link from 2.3.6 so it is possible they are pushing only the upgrade for now. These rollouts take time so you aren't guaranteed a notification until it is fully rolled out.

It works realy well. It is what the 4.0.3 should have been
faith in google restored
Can I do it for my non-rooted Stock 4.0.3? How? And is this country specific update?
Wont work for me, I get the same error message as the OP, running stock 4.0.3 GSM model.

Me too. I think it complained about CRC error on Phonesky.apk.
assert failed: apply_patch_check("/system/app/Phonesky.apk, ...
try to flash the full 4.0.3 update first...
When i updated to 4.0.3 from 2.3.6 my phone could nothandle the diff update.. I had to flash 2.3.6 again after it worked

Writes bootloader and radio only. Then I get file_getprop: failed to stat "/system/build.prop": No such file or directory
Edit:
Had to first install the complete 2.3.6, and then the complete 4.0.3, and now the 4.0.4 patch goes through without errors.

[Solved] Optimus 3D boots into recovery

Hello,
My friend has an LG Optimus 3D running stock froyo which i rooted for him and installed ClockworkMod Touch Recovery 5.8.1.5. Everything was fine until a notification for an upgrade to gingerbread was available and he clicked install.
Now the phone can only boot into recovery. I tried to restore a previous backup, flash the zip of a froyo rom. But to no avail.
Any idea what might be cause and solution?
Thanks in advance
UPDATE: I connected to adb and gave the command "adb reboot-bootloader" and it still boots into recovery. Is it normal?
UPDATE 1: I tried using the LGMobileUpdate tool to install the update in the hope that it solved the problem, it detects the phone, downloads and extracts the rom, start the update process and then gives a connection error. The error isn't given during the detecting phone phase but when it start to apply the update.
Bump... Please, anyone?
Try flashing an entire ROM. The kernel may be botched.

Thanks for your reply
I have already tried to install through clockworkmod the zip of the stock froyo rom (from the thread of official roms). Nothing changes. Neither restoring a backup from clockworkmod changed anything.
As I remember that the kernel is part of the rom zip, I think the problem is more low level.
Tomorrow I'll try doing this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1244490
Any other suggestions or ideas?
UPDATE: Followed the guide here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1540163 and managed to flash the kdz of v21a. Problems solved

[Q] Help Nexus s doesn't get service

Hi everyone,
I am really nooby with all this stuff. I have a nexus s i9020a. Recently I went from a custom mod to the stock rom 2.3.6, but when i did this, I am unable to get service. After all the research i've done, this may be a radio problem? My baseband version is NO GSXXKI1, and when i tried to flash Radio UCKD1 using clockworkmod, it says installation aborted. How can i get my service running again?
My android version is 4.0.4 right now
Please help me whats wrong
You can find official radio image in one of the factory tar archives here https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images#sojua
The latest radio would be UCLH1 from 4.1.2 (JZO54K)
I already tried flashing it with the latest one, but all it says installation aborted :/
Is it because i'm using android system recovery <3e>?
EDIT: nevermind, im using clockworkmod now, and it still says installation aborted
** EDIT: Okay, i fixed the signal ! Thank you for your help! All I did was install clockworkmod (I thought I using it before, but i rerooted again and got it). I flashed with the latest radio as you told me to and it fixed the problem! Thank you so much
You're welcome.
