Netflix App - T-Mobile Sidekick 4G

Well this is something that is rather depressing as I have yet to get the app to work on our beloved Sidekick 4G. I have tried many of the popular fixes such as changing the build.prop file to Nexus S and HTC Vision, but alas nothing has worked. Anyone else care to try it out?
I've been working on this from a post on Reddit:
http://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/ha5oh/root_how_to_edit_your_buildprop_to_make_netflix/

it does work on the sidekick 4g, you need to root your phone. I downloaded the apk when it was leaked earlier this week and have been using it on my rooted sk4g ever since

Try editing your build.prop file in the system directory. You need to be rooted though.
Change the SGH-T839's To Nexus S
then save and restart.
your build.prop should look like this.

I just double and triple checked. My file matches but I am still not able to get into netflix.
any ideas?

So just rooting wont allow you to get the app?

nah rooting wont help you just get the app and i adjusted my build.prop just as above and it still isn't taking... oh wells hopefully soon Netflix will please the masses and just release it for all of us to use

Just out of curiousity have you guys tried the apk that does not do the device check, as mentioned in this post
Netflix Device Check Disabled
I do not have the SK4G but have been considering it but I came across this and it works great for my 3G Slide so I thought it was at least possible for the SK4G.

Netflix
Just tried the netflix APK with device check disabled.
It crashes to the homescreen when you try and login.

The 3rd link netflix-mod-2.apk just below the device check disabled looks like it is supposed to handle that issue and still have the device check disabled. It may be worth trying that one as well.

You beat me to it...
tried the third link mentioned in the post above.
I am able to log in...
error 1005 when I try and watch...

Sorry to hear that. I was hopeful that it would work. I will post if I see anything else. It really is a very slick app.

maybe try changing the build.prop back to original and try the modified apk.
I will do this If i have time later this evening and post results if I do.

Tried the Mod-2 with original build.prop and it said that i don't have the right device.

This is what bugs me about android. There are so many different phones that its a pain to always want to get a new one when it comes out but then have to do a bunch of research to see well will this phone run Netflix or will it run the apps i want.
I honestly think there are just to many phones. Well its not that i guess but to many carriers under their own rules. Some phones released only a year ago wont run 2.3 and some may but have not gotten it yet and so on and its just a pain.
NOt to rain on anyones parade but for me i am thinking of going to an iphone even though its a smaller screen at least i know that i can run everything i want to. Netflix is important to me because i stream it all the time. Or our daughter likes to watch on it when we are out traveling and so forth it keeps her occupied.
Maybe these guys will get it together soon.

The next version of Android, Ice Cream Sandwich (http://www.tgdaily.com/mobility-fea...24-will-be-a-de-fragmented-ice-cream-sandwich), is designed to rectify this issue. Every phone will be able to run Ice Cream, and every phone will get it.
Not to mention that having an iPhone means you can run less of what you want than you can on Android. iOS' walled garden is designed so that Apple owns your device and decides what you can and can't have on it. Also there are many features on Android that aren't on iOS.

Ice cream sandwich is not going to be on every device, the article is talking about how the OS will run on phones and tablets. You are kinda at the mercy of the manufacturer for updates unless you buy a nexus branded phone. If someone wants an iphone so things "just work" I say go for it, iphones are great for that, I for one enjoy modding my phone and that is why I like android. Netflix will eventually release a version that works on all phones with 2.2 and up it is just a matter of time (at least it looks like that's the direction they are headed)

nothing says that its gonna be on all devices. 2.4 will be on new phones that launch with it, probably some of the older high end phones that are already running 2.3 like the nexus s 4g, this probably wont even include devices just getting 2.3 now like the g2 mt4g and g2x. we always get promises of OS updates on older phones but it doesnt always happen. further more if you have a sidekick it doesnt run stock android and therefor its harder to make an updated OS, 2.4 would have to launch then samsung would have to intigrate it with the sidekicks moded android platform.
however crying because you cant use an new app on your older and less powerful device is dumb. phones are always gonna update as new ones come out, new is usually better. so new apps arent always gonna work on our old devices, if everything worked we'd never have a reason to upgrade. if you want netflix and the workaround methods arent working for you, go buy a phone it works on or stop crying about how flawed android is. android is already so much more custom and usuable than iOS, and if you dont agree go buy a ****ing iphone and shut up.

Umm.. how's the sidekick 4g a "old device"? Netflix was just released for android and isn't currently supporting any but a small handful of devices. Go do some research before you look like an ass.
Sent from my Sidekick 4G using XDA Premium App

So with all the development picking up, has anyone gotten Netflix to be successfully working on their device?

I have tried all the "page 202" versions on my Samsung Sidekick 4G, none of them work (though I LOVE the landscape mode!) they all crash after I log in.
the version that works the "best" so far on this device is "netflix-mod-2.apk"
Not sure where I originally got this from (possibly from XDA as well)
I have it on my sugarsync (like dropbox) file here:
https://www.sugarsync.com/pf/D6645106_95_895623624
It prompts for an upgrade (I select "Cancel"):

}
It goes to the netflix interface (portrait mode only):
When I select a title, it goes into landscape mode to load the video:
Then it gives me the error message that it cannot communicate with the Netflix servers:
I am using a NON-Rooted Sidekick 4G
Any suggestions to get this app or any of the others working on this phone? It is 480x800 res so HiDef is not needed (but landscape would be wonderful).

[GPL- Violation] Full HDMI Mirroring(Released)--(NEW UPDATED APP)

FROM Orrebmas himself
Hi,
I was told and verified that the donate button does not work in the version I released. I fixed and re-uploaded it to android central. Please update your post.
Thanks for bringing it to XDA.

I have updated the app to the new updated version with the donate button working!
http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc-evo-4g-rooting-roms-hacks/63799-fullhdmi-official-fullhdmi-beta-discussion.html ----BETA Thread Discussion thread made by Orrebmas
http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc-evo-4g-rooting-roms-hacks/35955-evo-hdmi-out-mirroring.html---ORIGINAL THREAD
Thanks to Orrebmas over at Android Central there is a working BETA version of the FULL HDMI for EVO.
All,
It is here finally, FullHDMI "limited time" public beta is attached in this post. This version is to mass test the app and get feedback before the next step.
I will be making an announcement later today about the beta and its purpose, but for now I am attaching it and going to get some sleep. You will need the Kernel posted several pages back on this thread to enable some features, and root. I just realized that non-root is broken as of this version.
Some of the things you need to know about before tinkering with the app, pasting quickly:

Most TVs have multiple options for aspect ratio. For example, zoom, hourglass, etc. Just make sure this setting is set to fill the screen.
I am not saying that is the case for all of you, it just was for me. Once I changed the setting, it filled the screen perfectly without messing with the X Y resolutions.
And also:

1- To achieve hardware acceleration, video memory (minimal) has to be used. Some poorly coded programs that also use video memory will try to grab a hold of the entire memory block instead of the available. This will cause them to crash when you are in hardware mode reserving a small block of memory to yourself. The only application that I found to be doing this is, strangely enough, HTC's Gallery (specifically video playback mode). Gallery video playback will keep trying to acquire the whole video memory, put the phone in a tight infinite loop doing so and eventually force close (after about 40 sec).
Compatibility or software mode does not use video memory and is safe to keep on while launching Galley video playback. Compatibility mode also does not make use of the "supercharged" feature, custom res or fullscreen mode.
2- FPS: Your frames per second will not be the same as on your phone. This is because the app is designed to keep the phone as primary display and output a secondary to the HDMI port. You are also outputting, most likely, a 1280x720 pixels which is almost ~2.5 times more the normal output. So in total you are pushing 3.5 lcd size screen worth of pixels (phone lcs + hdmi). Things can be improved if we freeze the phone display, but that wont be mirroring (maybe a feature in FullHDMI 2). Expect, however, to get more FPS in 3-D games (I get upwards of 40 fps on Raging Thunder 2) than 2-D sine he 2-D engine does the mirroring.
3- Lag: Some TVs (like Insignia) use an image enhancing and noise reducing engine. This extra processing puts the TV about half a second behind the phone making games unplayable by looking at the TV only. Watching movies is fine since nobody cares if the phone is a little faster than the TV. On this Insignia TV, I had to go in and turn off two image enhancing and noise reducing features, and now my phone and TV track together. I know Sony has its own engine, I do not know if the extra processing there introduces lag. I have two other TVs with no lag issues, but then they don't use any image enhancing engines.
Again, the app should not lag in mirroring, if you experience any lag then please check your TV and share your observation with us.
4- This app was not designed to display youtube or other apps that already work over HDMI. To use such apps you should stop FullHDMI from driving the HDMI signal first.
ENJOY
iF YOU DECIDE TO THANK ME FOR POSTING THIS UP, I APPRECIATE IT BUT NOT NEEDED..I DID NOT DEVELOP THIS APP IN ANY WAY, JUST POSTED IT FOR YOUR ENJOYMENT.

IMPORTANT..YOU WILL NEED TO UNZIP THE FILE YOU DOWNLOAD THEN THE KERNEL AND APK ARE IN THERE TO INSTALL!!! You will only need to do this for the RAR file. if downloading from a phone look below
I also uploaded the APK and kernel for everyone on top of the rar file so they can just do it on there phone also. So from the phone download the apk file and the zip file. place those on root of sd card and your good to go. Just boot into recovery and install kernel.
Very cool, but what kernel?

Great post. I guess we will see how this is received now. I must tell you that the mods here tell me that do not not like the spirit in which they say this app was developed . I hope this thread does well to inform people of this type of app and its uses... I also hope those who are against this app being discussed here can refrain from posting and just wait for the dev that they like to come up with their own app that is actually out and available to be tested and used .
I have been using the app for a week or so and am very impressed to say the least . Watching movies wherever j go from my phone has been most awesome.

Yes this app can have benefits in many many ways. i opted to wait for this version as the last release was not supposed to be released. I havent had the chance yet to use this app as my hdmi cable should be getting here either today or monday at the latest.
FOR EVERYONES SAKE PLEASE IF YOU DONT HAVE ANYTHING NICE TO SAY PLEASE DONT POST IN THIS THREAD. WE DONT NEED ANY DRAMA!

Best Market Fix yet: edited build.prop for VeganTab 5.1.1

Might work for other ROMs as well, don't know why it wouldn't.
EDIT: This might help to fix My Apps. After installing some apps, the rest were populated.
EDIT: ro.product.device=olympus added. This gives you access to Tegra 2 games as well as the broadest market fix I've seen yet!
I've been putting <boolean name="local_db_sync_required" value="true" /> in /data/data/com.android.vending/shared_prefs/vending_preferences.xml from time to time. Seems to maybe take an install of an app to catch or something. Still a bit voodoo chicken ceremony type of affair.

This is an edited build.prop from the VeganTab 5.1.1 install. Some changes I got from a thread on fixing 2.2 on the HTC Desire.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=741811
I did it because some of the entries just didn't make sense, so I combined some stuff, and made a few semi-educated guesses.
And yes, I'll take donations. I'm passing some donations around myself. A quarter or 50 cents here and there would be thrilling.
STD Disclaimer: Don't blame me if it breaks stuff, backup your old one first.
Let me tell the wife I at least made a few bucks.
I'm working on some other stuff, so hope to have a few tidbits here and there.
I'm on the trail of being able to get your device recognized by the web google market and being able to install apps from your web browser. I can replicate it, but it's a bit more technical and an either or proposition, long story.
Shameless plug: I bought an extra gTab off woot and it's for sale in Houston, still sealed in the box.
There shouldn't be much 2.2 Froyo stuff that ISN'T visible. Everything I wanted to see or someone asked me to check for was visible, although I didn't try to install everything, but I think it'd all be fine.
Attached File
Couldn't attach for some reason, but it's just text so no big.
Anything that would help add more apps (beyond the regular market fix) wouldbe great. Can you see Samurai 2 and Launcher Pro at the same time in the market with this build.prop?
Samurai II
I'm pretty sure Samurai II isn't found for some reason that's not in build.prop.
I took the build.prop from the 5.1.1 VeganTab supplement and tried that, but no Sam II either there, BUT if you do a clean install, then you can see Samurai II but not a whole lot else.
Doing the market fix breaks the ability to see that.
So, something that is in the clean install but not there after the market fix.

I think I did it once by accident and IIRC had to reinstall.
But what you could do is a complete CWM backup, fresh install, buy the app, titanium backup the app, then backup your fresh version, then restore your original. But you wouldn't have to do it too often.
What other apps are Tegra 2 only?
If you need to re-install I probably won't be deleting data on the market app: -)
Regarding other tegra 2 apps (and these also only show up initially: Vendetta Online, AirAttack HD, and it isn't tegra 2 only but Firefox only shows up on initial market load as well.
I did exactly what you suggested with Titanium Backup - real issue is with updates. I would prefer not having to re-flash and use Titanium every time an update comes out - or even new tegra 2 games.
These seem to be the only three keys changed, right?

So is the wacky market just a froyo thing? since I moved to gbread my market has ben flawless. I can finally see any app all the time.

I have never had to reinstall. You do wind up having to accept the license terms again. And sometimes only your paid apps show up until either you install something new or it just naturally syncs and then everything shows up.
The way I have it right now I can get one set of things when I do the fix and another set of things when I erase the data and the cache.
Houston huh? I'm a little south of you in Clear Lake, but I am thinking two tablets is already enough.

I have seen the problem on every ROM I have tried - on VEGAn-TAB 5.1.1 right now. But it happened with the experimental gingerbread version as well. Not sure about AOSP. Litmus test for me is seeing Samurai 2 and Launcher 2 at the same time.

I cant even get this on my Stock EVO. I can get Launcher Pro but not Samurai II. I can get Samurai II on my GTAB but can only get Launcher Pro Plus Unlocker. The litmas test does not work for me.
Is there really a full market and how can you really tell?
I am not sure that this lets me see anything that I could not see with the previous "market fix". I still say, clear the data and cache, get the Tegra 2 apps. Clear just the cache, and everything BUT the Tegra 2 apps (Samuri, Silver Creek games, etc.).
I find it hard to imagine that anything other than the fingerprint is really factoring into this. What I don't understand is what the difference between deleting the data and cache vs deleting just the cache. Very strange.
My current fingerprint is:
ro.build.fingerprint=google/passion/passion/mahimahi:2.2/FRF91/43546:user/release-keys
I tried this one also:
ro.build.fingerprint=samsung/SGH-T849/SGH-T849/SGH-T849:2.2/FROYO/UVJJB:user/release-keys
That actually worked pretty well, but still not 100% of what I thought should be there.

myTouch 4G Slide - first impressions

Hi all,
(I just joined today - hope you would go easy on me as I am still learning the xda etiquette.)
Just received my T-mobile HTC myTouch 4G slide and activated it on Sunday.
(Now before I jump onto my first impression of the phone, let me be clear - Till Sunday, I was proud owner of Nokia N900. I still love that phone. But I had to jump onto the Android bangwagor sooner or later since Nokia decided to to WinMo way. N900 was a solid phone with an unpolished/unfinished OS. Nokia never gave it a chance to mature.)
So, please keep in mind that I am new to Android as well as HTC and the phone itself.
Here is what I liked in my one full day of playing with the hardware and the OS/Software:
1. Android is fast, stable and polished, and enough apps to install one every day for rest of my life.
2. Phone is fast, not much stutter, has not crashed yet. Data connection is stable and voice quality is good.
3. UI looks, er, shiny (I do not give much weight to this, but apparently, a lot of people do, given popularity of 'certain' phones).
4. Keyboard is good. (one of the main reasons to buy the phone, as querty keyboard is a must for me )
Now onto negatives:
1. Lack of user control - though I have flexibility in controlling a lot of things on Android, there are a lot of other things which I really want to control but can not - i.e. uninstall t-mo / HCT bloatware (see my next point).
2. Bloatware - this was a shock to me. N900 is a clean device with no crap installed. T-Mo and HTC made sure I start hating my phone on day one by giving me pre-installed uninstallable crap. Not only I do not want them, it actually confuses me. I do not have a dedicated media player - but I have a 'Media Room' with T-Mobile TV and Slacker Radio (and none of them are complete versions). Bejeweled 2, T-mo backup, Highlight, Friend Stream - the list goes on, and I can not remove any of the app.
3. Android - no default file manager. Are you kidding me?
4. Contact - multiple entries from multiple sources (i.e. 411 & more is listed 4 times - one from google, one from tmo backup, one from phone and one from sd card). I know I can link them, or disable view of some of them, but god damn it - it's confusing as hell.
5. Camera - now don't get me wrong. The camera on this phone may be one of the best among Android/iphone phones, but where it gives you a lot of megapixels, the lens (and hence the quality) does not hold water against N900. Software can not make up for hardware limitations.
6. Battery - I almost ran out of juice before I even reached home from work in the evening - and that too from very limited use. Yes, I used phone for quite a bit, but without wireless/gps. I understand the display eats battery, but come on - shouldn't a smartphone be up on batter for one full day?
I will add more as I come across.
Please note that this is not a rant - there is some genuine disappointment with my first real hands on with Android/HTC. With the bloatware on this phone, I feel like I am being take advantage off, and I hate that feeling.
I am a linux user for 12 years (personally and professionally - as a programmer) and I consider myself a power-user (though not anywhere near Guru level), and so far, the phone has not given me even a default file browser.
I really hope to find more positive things to say, as I am committed to Android now that there is hardly any other linux-y OS out there.
Thanks
E
I agree. i havent upgraded since the G1.... i was very excited ... and first hands on was huge disapointment. bloatware, yes, and no skype video ...thats an android issue but none the less the phone seemed very unorganized and i was getting a billion messages from all over the internet with the bloatware subrcribing me to every little notification.
All of your problems except for "Camera issues" will be fixed as soon as S-OFF is available, and dev's will begin porting roms and developing roms. I expect overclocking to be tremendous with this dual core processor, since the mytouch 4g can now be clocked to over 2.0 ghz.
*If you want a file manager download astro from the market.
I forgot whether it requires root or not. If that one does, there are many other file managers just search.
Seems like the judgments are extra harsh and could all be solved by software, unrooting, etc. I'm stoked to be able to overclock to 2 GHz and then some. S-OFF on the MT4GS will be awesome!!!
There are many very good free media players/music players on the market (ex. Tinyplayer) . Same with the file managers, Astro is recommended. That's what the market is there for, as they knew dovelopers could provide the device with excellent applications.

It seems you have heard it right.
Apparently, I did not know:
1. Android 2.3.4 enabled voice/video chat for GTalk app.
2. I certainly did not know HTC/T-MO decided to disable it!
Instead, there is Qik Video Chat app from tmo. For some reason, they think it's equivalent to gtalk? *facepalm*
(Now I hope I am wrong, but I have checked all options on GTalk app, and I do not see either video or audio icon next to my contacts, even if they are available to chat on video).
Let me add that to another negative.

Thanks. I know it's pretty new device, and mods/root/s-off will be available soon. That's why I have registered here. I was just giving first impression of the stock device. Yes, I have already downloaded Astro (does not require root). Not much impressed, but gets the job done.

Yes, I know it would get resolved by software/unrooting. That's why I am on this forum. As I said above, these is my first impression of the stock device. And no - I don't think it's harsh at all. Sorry if I came across like that.

Sure there are. But my point is that there are some apps which should come by default on the phone as part of the OS (e.g. Google Search, Contact, Calendar are part of the vanilla Android), and File manager should be at the very top. Anyways, I have already downloaded Astro, and many other apps to play around with it.
I am definitely looking forward to get rid of the software as soon as I can. Otherwise, this baby will have to go back.
Thank you for your comments.

Skype is audio only. No video support.
I moved from a very old android phone so this phone has so far not been able to truly lag on me.
My last phone was regular android even with stock so that is what I wanted. I'm not one to modify my home screen at all. I like the default black 2.3 look and that's what I want. Not Sense.
The fact that I have to void my warranty just to remove it makes me furious. Of course I could bring it back to none rooted state for that. Regardless I think it's hilarious that a bunch of marketing folks think they know better then I do. Heh.
I've made Android apps before and actually code for a living so it's pretty easy to tell that it's a rushed job. The sense front end has no way to disable contact finding so your phone basically becomes facebook and puts contact suggestions directly into your notifications based on your contacts.
Every single "built in" application then requires you to then agree to the terms of service for that specific application. Things like "KidZone", "Highlight", "T-Mobile Mall", "T-Mobile TV". One of the silliest ones is "doubleTwist" which when opened shows you a splash that asks you to click a "Send Email" button which sends you a link to download the app. It then removes itself off the phone. Sounds like malware to me.
So some company payed off Tmo to put this app on my phone so they can harvest my email. Yay.

I'm personally hoping Blah and Sparks port PyroMod to the MT4Gs after root and S-Off are achieved. But that's just me, and I like to add as much memory as possible (A2EXT would certainly enable THAT).
Also, to OP, just wait until root is available and you'll see just how amazing Android can be. I recommend OI File Manager for a default one (this is the one preinstalled on Cyanogenmod-based ROMs). I switched to this one after too many buggy Astro updates and they started with ad-supported versions.

I just realized something: Why hasn't the hacking/development community made a "status of root update" thread for the Doubleshot the way they did for the Vision? Permaroot and S-OFF are what's really holding me back from getting this device (PyroMod 2.3.5's speedy boot time on the Vision actually DOES rival that of dual-core phones, so I'm in no hurry to get it; I'm just asking why there isn't one).

[MOD][Fix] T-mobile Wifi Calling Patch

Ok because i have been using Android Revolution HD™ 3.0.3 that mike1986 until i finish building aosp rom and i supercid my sensation and not having wifi calling kinda was making it hard for me because i have like no service in my home. Note: This will work on all sensation's and all sensation sense roms 2.3.4 and 2.3.3 but it will change the build.prop to the stock t-mobile one if you made any previous changes to it.
To Install
1. Download wifi calling patch from link on here or Rom manager
2. Boot into recovery (Hold volume down and press power)
3. Select recovery

I don't know what this is for... I super cid payphone when I got it and WiFi calling works...what problem does this fix exactly. I am just curious....
Running LeeDROiD Sensational V2.3.0 with LeeDrOiD TMO-US WiFi Calling pack V2.3.0, was having no success in getting it to work (my house has poor reception, so I use it primarily for texting and occasionally calls).
Tossed this patch on, and Wi-Fi Calling is now working properly. Although I'd almost swear it's an older version. Instead of telling me that it will use plan minutes, it says that it "may use minutes with certain plans", which I thought was a fact of way back when certain plans could actually use Wi-Fi Calling without using plan minutes? Oh well, none of that matters to me (as it was surely using my plan minutes either way), I'm just glad it's working now.
Thank you very much
No, it's the truth, those with the More and Even More post paid plans can have the option for free wifi calling. Just call them and ask about it, though for me they played dumb for a while, until I realized I don't have a more and even more plan. Whatever that means.
If I recall correctly (I'm only a recent T-Mobile user, but I've been working with the phones in general for a while), the More and Even More plans were promotional plans that they offered a little while back. Something like $80 for unlimited everything (including 4G), although they quietly throttled at 2GB I believe (before they released the current tiered data plans that actually mentioned the throttling).
So yeah, I suppose some people can take advantage of free Wi-Fi calling, but only if you were lucky enough to get onto one of those plans. I'm not sure if there's any way to get them to put you on one of those now. I suppose just about anything is possible if you talk to the right person though, eh?
ok, i have the even more plus plan with "unlimited" data. was using this before all this 4g stuff came about. yes, for even more + plans our wifi calling is free( even tho the text up there says it uses minutes, it doesn't). when the 4g stuff rolled out and all this cap stuff, my "unlimited" 4g data is now throttled at 5gb, which is pretty awesome.
as i use this feature when im at home as my signal sometimes in my room aint that good
and now that the merger mite not even go thru im super excited
Any idea which build.prop values are needed by WiFi Calling? For those who would rather tweak the build.prop in their favorite customized ROM instead of having to use the stock T-Mobile one.

This flashable patch has the following in its build.prop in that section.
Code:
rild.libpath=/system/lib/libhtc_ril.so
# RilLibPath for Ganlite by Godel_Chen
rild.libpath.ganlite=/system/lib/librilswitch.so
rilswitch.vendorlibpath=/system/lib/libhtc_ril.so
rilswitch.ganlibpath=/system/lib/libganril.so
I'm using EnergyROM which has the following in its build.prop and people who use this patch having removed the build.prop, so they keep EnergyROM's customized build.prop say WiFi calling won't work.
Code:
rild.libpath=/system/lib/libhtc_ril.so
# RilLibPath for Ganlite by Godel_Chen
rild.libpath.ganlite=/system/lib/librilswitch.so
rilswitch.vendorlibpath=/system/lib/libhtc_ril.so
rilswitch.ganlibpath=/system/lib/libganril.so
Same thing, but neither has the value as you mentioned, each has it slightly different.
But people using EnergyROM say this patch works if they use all of its included build.prop values. So I can't figure out what could be causing the issue. I do know that EnergyROM's build.prop makes no mention of "tmobile" anywhere in it. While the build.prop in the patch has a lot of mentions of "tmobile" in various places. Could the issue be mentions of "tmobile" in some areas of the file?
How can I raise volume on wifi calling outgoing volume too low!

Thank you for testing with EnergyROM.
Since you use a different build.prop from EnergyROM and have many tweaks in build.prop for Android Revolution HD. Is is possible/likely that some EnergyROM tweaks are lost when this patch is used with EnergyROM?

Yes, I think he did, because the EnergyROM build.prop includes:
Code:
ro.htc.framework.screencapture = true
Yours has that value set to false.
So setting it to "true" in yours would yeild the same effect right?
I don't know much about this, but just figuring that's the case from the differences I saw in the files.

Yes, I think he did, because the EnergyROM build.prop includes:
Code:
ro.htc.framework.screencapture = true
Yours has that value set to false.
So setting it to "true" in yours would yeild the same effect right?

ya just change to true and you have screenshot back enjoy
Great!
I had another question about build.prop if you could enlighten me .
If a build.prop file happend to have
Code:
ro.htc.framework.screencapture = true
and later in that same build.prop file it had:
Code:
ro.htc.framework.screencapture = false
Would Android recognize the last mention of it and set the feature to false or would it only recognize the first mention and set it to true?
Thank you again .

OK. Just wondering. I figured maybe the last value too.
Some EnergyROM users were copy/pasting all of EnergyROM's build.prop into yours and it all worked. So I guess they got the EnergyROM values plus any new stuff yours had.
Did you know your build.prop has this in it:
(Lines 180-181)
Code:
ro.setupwizard.mode=DISABLED
ro.setupwizard.mode=OPTIONAL
Like first it's disabled and then optional .

Hipstreet TITAN HS-7DTB4-4GB Tablet - Proper Rooting, Market etc.

Hi all,
I picked up a cute little tablet for my young kids to use on trips in the car from my local Walmart called the Hipstreet Titan HS-7DTB4-4GB. After poking around the OS, i found out it was rooted but not properly and you couldn't even run the android market on it to unlock its' true potential. Since I found out that only branded (Samsung, Sony Acer etc) Android tablets have access to the marketplace, i got verrrrry curious as to how far i could push this little piece of technology to...
After some exhaustive searching on the 'Net, this is what i have come up with:
SPECS:
7" Capacitive touch screen @ 800x480
Android 4.0.4 OS
4GB built in capacity - expandable to 32 GB with Micro SD card (not included)
1.2 GHZ CPU single core A8 Cortex CPU
512 MB DDR2 RAM
Rechargable 2600 mah lithium polymer battery built-in
High speed direct micro USB 2.0 interface
WIFI 802.11 b/g/n
Built in speaker
Built-in front facing 300k camera
Multiple language format
After downloading Tasselhof's Root, Market utility HERE i was fully rooted and ready to go.
****UPDATE 08/26/2012*****
PROGRESS!!! After rooting and running the market fix with the above utility, i rebooted the unit and ran the android market which i then was able to download and install an app successfully WITHOUT A FC!!!
This problem is a major headache for tablet owners who have a partial root. Try to get an app to install from the market/play store and you would end up with an FC every time!! Not anymore!!!
I will add to this as i find out more... stay tuned and feel free to update me via PM if you find out more than i have here!

i'm a little confused, you are manually installing su, superuser.apk and busybox only. no rooting taking place or market fixes...
Open a ADB shell and you should see a '#' If you don't, you're screwed. if you do, just type these commands!

this doesn't invoke a sense of confidence my friend.... the utility i link to in my post actually roots the unit completely, and fixes the market issue 100% so we can help those whom you term as "screwed" not be "screwed". right?

Actually my method gives you root but I'm revising it for safety reasons as I managed to brick my tab and get a new one
The manual install still works its not meant to do google market
The below rant requests a pardon from the MOD.. being a senior member i am flabbergasted at some members that just walk in and start cross-posting and making a mess of things in the OP.
Now for the rant:

I am now further confused... your method DOES NOT invoke root status at all!! You are simply installing the binaries!!! you even plainly state this:
Open a ADB shell and you should see a '#' If you don't, you're screwed. if you do, just type these commands!
Click to expand...

you DO NOT get root by simply installing the SU and superuser.apk binaries! if the user does not get a root prompt from the get-go, you leave the user hanging with "YOU'RE SCREWED" and that is the end of it! you are making an assumption that the unit has root access and just doing what others have posted by installing the binaries, not actually rooting or fixing the market issues as i have stated in my OP.
my linked utility from Tasselhof invokes/repairs root onto the HIPSTREET unit since up until now this tablet has had little exposure on XDA and has not been able to be rooted or have any utilities for it. I posted the utility because i have (after exhaustive experimentation and recoveries) found a utility that WORKS with this model.
We are here to HELP people out of these situations, you are just making it worse!! You aren't even breaking ground, you're burying users in false information!!
I'm revising it for safety reasons as I managed to brick my tab and get a new one

YOU EVEN BRICKED YOUR OWN UNIT USING YOUR METHOD WITHOUT A WAY OUT OF IT!!! OMG! Stop posting in this thread!

Hey repherb, how is the tablet? I have a Pandigital Novel but oh boy is it a piece of sh*t. it is so slow, the screen has to be pressed very hard to get it to move and the Wi-Fi, works, but only about 25% of the time.
I installed kewlguy's ROM he made and I have the App Store and more features, but the Wi-Fi still sucks.
I was wondering if the Hipstreet Titan is any good. Google Play isn't that important as I can apps off of Appbrain, of get them off my S3.
How is the screen for sensitivity? Does the Wi-Fi work well? My father goes to Dialysis 3 times a week (4 hours each time) and I want to give him the tablet so he can play his online checkers and freecell while he is there. Does it have Flash?
Many thanks for the info,
Ian

The 4GB Titan tablet from Hipstreet works very well with the stock ICS ROM, as long as you run Tasselhof's full root. once that is done the OS really opens up. The 4GB on board allows for me to store some movies and music for the kids without the need for a microSD card.
The screen is multipoint-touch so the kids enjoy it for google earth etc. and responds to light touches. the kids do not need to be forceful.
The WiFi is good, rarely losing signal outside the house on the front lawn at about 40 feet from the router through the house structure to outside.
Flash can be installed on this unit, best to do it once you fully root from the utility. My 8-year old daughter plays online barbie and nick jr. games on the websites without a problem.
Hope this helps!

build.prop
Hey, I used this and it worked great, with one exception... I didn't back anything up, and let the tool replace the build.prop file, now things are very very broken. Does anyone have an original build.prop that they backed up? Or failing that, a known working one that I could try?

Will it work for Hipstreet Nova 4?
Hi repherb,
Thanks for this great info.
And I have question:
I'm getting Hip street Nova 4, that is basically Titan but with HDMI port. Do you think this method of rooting would work?
I'm not guru, rather advanced user so would really appreciate some help.
Thanks!

request Step by Step instructions
Hello.If it possible can somebody put a step by step Rooting and Enablenig Google Play market useing Tasselhof script. The instructions there are for another tablet and my understanding that some steps are not needed or even be harmfull for Titan tablet.I've used Newtech utility for one of my Titan tablets, and it worked with the exception of Calendar synch issues and i think it's really reduced camera resolution/quality. I just got another Titan tablet and would like to tryTasSelhof script. Thank you in advance.
Also can somebody post alink to an original /clean Hipstreet Titan firmware/image backup?Just incase somehting goes wrong. I couldn't find information on how to create full system back up.
Thank you!!!!

Works on Hipstreet Flare 9DTB4-8GB 9" Tablet however I think I messed myself up. Took 1 extra step too much.
I managed to root, but now I have lost my bottom taskbar, and thus the ability to see multi task, back, volume up and down.
On Boot up I get "Unfortunately, System UI has stopped"
I made the huge mistake and backed up nothing from the start, so apart from my major sin, how can I get my task bar back?
Need a clear step by step as this is my first android.
Oh I can still surf, view app store... but since the task bar went I can't install from the store ( error ), but I can with an apk download from web.
Any advice would be welcome.
