Many annoyances I've found have been removed, including all unnecessary Motorola apps. The Motorola docks have been replaced with Google's standard ones - I find them more useful.
It's based on a hybrid of SHOLS_U2_02.36.0 for central Europe, and SHOLS_U2_03.11.0 for Telus, with North American frequencies enabled. Uses LauncherPro as the default, and only bundled launcher, includes the Dalvik cache hack, and will overclock the CPU to 1100MHz. To some, this may be excessive, but the Cortex A8 is an extremely capable CPU, which, I've found, has absolutely no trouble running at even 1250MHz while being absolutely stable. At 1100MHz, the device remains cool to the touch, aside from when there's heavy 3G activity - something that occurs even at stock speeds. That said, battery life continues to be as good, if not better, than a stock firmware.
The overclock is automatically adjusted based on the load of the CPU. If you rarely do intensive tasks with your device, it will rarely reach its max clock speed. This helps to ensure cool, reliable operation while being completely unnoticeable by the end-user.
If you would like to change, or disable overclocking, you can do so with GOT's OpenRecovery. It will override the default settings.
JIT is NOT installed. If you'd like JIT, it can be installed via OpenRecovery.
What you can expect from V4:
-Improved battery life
-Considerably snappier performance all-around
-More reliable data connection
-Automatic APN configuration nearly worldwide
-Unbeatable stability (weeks upon weeks of uptime)
-A new theme
V4.1 Update:
-Interactive Governor added (backport by nadlabak)
-Updated Messaging icon
-Uses Google DNS for faster host resolves
V5 Changelog:
-Plenty of performance enhancements
-Updated Market (thanks antonyfl)
-Switched to ADW Launcher
-Other stuff I can't remember.
V5.1 Changelog:
-Updated maps/adw/facebook
-Modified Phone.apk (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=8120125)
-Bugfixes
-Additional scheduler improvements
-Reduced size
V5.2 Changelog:
-Fixed setup page glitch
You'll notice the power menu has an entry labeled "Yearly". It's reboot. I'm too lazy to find the reboot string. Yeah, it looks weird, but it works. If you don't like it, just swap out android.policy.jar with one from an earlier version.

I'd like to thank Jedipottsy for the base theme design. The post can be found here.
When upgrading from version 3.0 or earlier, or coming from a different "rom" entirely, I very strongly suggest you wipe your device prior to flashing. You don't have to, but you wont receive many of the performance gains without doing so.
Future versions will not necessitate, or recommend, a wipe. Including 4.0 to 4.1.
For those who require 900/1800/2100 frequencies, they can be enabled by applying the update.zip below. Be sure you've already installed the backup before you run the update.zip, however. Further localization, such as keyboard layout, can be accomplished using OpenRecovery.

You'll have to flash the vulnerable recovery .sbf if you haven't got it already, and run OpenRecovery, or any other means of applying a nandroid backup. OpenRecovery is menu-based, so it's probably the easiest method.
Simply extract the .7z file, and place it in /sdcard/nandroid/openrecovery/

I've found battery life to be as good as when I bought it, if not better, and HSPA is working.
Im on your backup right now and i must say whatever you did to it is amazing... this phone is running so fast its crazy! Looking forward to more updates...

can someone tell me if app2sd works
Is there a chance, that you lowered the cpu speed?at about 720 or 800 or something?
I know its been said that the processor can handle it,but i just dont feel so good doing it,you must be a risky dude to do it
I think app2sd,creates more problems than it solves...
I hear all the time about weird things it does...

I had installed MilestoneOverlock and SetCpu. You just need to set frequency as you want, and voltage on procesor, because i think default max voltage in this rom is too high- on 1000MHz i have 60vsel and it works fine.

On the contrary, I don't take risks with my phone - I depend on it daily for work.
That said, the CPU speed can be changed by modifying /system/bin/boot_script/51_overclock.sh.
Simply change the 1100000 to the clock speed of your choice (in kHz) and the vsel to the lowest you can get while still being stable.
The easiest way to go about this is with Root Explorer, but you can do it with adb as well.
OP,
I'm sure you've done it...have you done the A-GPS fix in your backup?
Thanks,
app2sd does not work on this kernal er nano backup i just get stuck in bootloop crap im just gunna wait for froyo

Ok, I am new to this. yesterday I rooted my phone to remove the annyoing camera sound. That worked fine. Now I used your backup and after that I only come to the bootloader with err:A5,69,35,00,23. I then tried to restore my own backup but still it stops in bootloader. What have I done wrong?
Edit: I flashed G.O.T. SHOLS_U2_36.0 released for UK so now the phone is working againg. Isn't this nandbackup supposed to work on all milestones?

It should work for all of them, but I sold my UK milestone, so I can't test it with anything but a Telus one. Did it say the flash was successful?
Perhaps if you restore it without flashing boot, it'll start successfully.

I've put together a ROM for myself and figured I should share it. This ROM isn't skinned and has as much removed as possible while still maintaining functionality.
This ROM is, of course, deodexed and zipaligned. The APKs have been OptiPNG'd save for the few that became corrupt after this process. This is in an effort to reduce footprint of the ROM and, hopefully, increase overall speed of the phone.

After installation, you'll have approximately 45MB of your internal storage in use.
This ROM does not include a kernel. Find one and flash it on top of this. I recommend GeniusDog254's MixUp kernel. That's what I use and can confirm it works.

Here is all the removed stuff in one flashable zip. The nice thing about Clockwork Recovery is that by default it does not check for signature. As a result of that, you can download the removed zip, open it with WinRAR/WinZip and delete all the things you don't want. Close it up, flash what's remaining on top of the ROM and you'll be golden. No more screwing around with ADB. Most everything in here is removed for a reason though.

I have included the DRM files in this ROM in order to allow the stock video player to function properly. If you do not want to have to worry about killing the DRM service each boot, download Startup Cleaner 2.0 from the market and disable the startup of the two applications pictured below. You'll need to change the filter in the top right corner to "System Apps" first.

KNOWN ISSUES:
Genie Widget will force close randomly. This has happened on every Android phone I've owned on every ROM. If anyone knows a fix for this, PM me please. $%*& you, Genie Widget.
Time Without Signal
Settings > About Phone > Battery Use > Cell Standby
If you see Time Without Signal in the 30 - 50% range and you haven't been to a no coverage area recently, you're being affected by this bug. Activate and deactivate airplane mode once each boot and you'll see your time without signal percentage fall. This should save battery. (This bug is affecting all DI18 builds. Hopefully Froyo will fix it.)

Here's a fail safe install method:
1) Use Odin to revert to a stock install of DI18
2) Flash Clockwork Recovery
3) Reboot into Clockwork, wipe data and cache.
4) Flash the ROM.
5) Flash a rooted Kernel.
I followed the above steps exactly. I got a force close while media scanner was running. After that, Browser worked 100%. No force closes or any kind of errors. I rebooted and tried the Browser again and it had no problem there either.
I'm adding links to a newer version which includes the newest Market and fixes the Pandora force close. If you're on an older build and need Pandora fixed, push the build.txt I'll attach here in a moment to /system/build.prop. Thanks~

I have a themed barebones around 86MB with overclocked kernel, and regular rom that im rockin right now which is barebones with crappy apps removed and competely replaced with better ones, new lwp's,themes, themed swype and themed launchers,i squeezed all this into120MB.

I haven't tested the music player too much. Deleted my SD's mp3s last night by mistake; will load them back up and see what the deal is.
Update: I am getting the force close. Will look into a fix.
Update update: Looks like the other ROMs are having the same issue. Will probably revert back to stock on next push, or would you guys like the modded music with the 4x4 widget? Let me know. Will continue to look into a fix for disc view though; I think this player looks good.

i think the problem was addressed in shizos epic experience rom.. check his thread. maybe theres a fix he can share
Great job, I haven't experienced any issues w/ browser, but I have yet to run hard test.
As for the disc view, the rest of players don't have this feature, so just have to learn to live w/o it. I've used paid mixzing, and the music mod in the past and this one I like better.
I haven't installed SetCPU to overclock past the default 1000Mhz on MixUp yet and I already pull a 1036 quad score.
Only obvious issue I've caught so far is the market is still the older version.
Rom definitely has potential, keep up the good work.

I looked briefly and didn't see anything, but that thread's massive. I'll go through it again and see if I can find anything. Currently trying to find a system dump for the Fascinate... maybe there's another file that needs to be pushed to fix it.
EDIT: I did see a poster claim in Shizo's thread that disc view was fixed in the last release. I just ran diff on his last two versions and didn't see any relevant changes. Still looking for a decent Fascinate system dump.

GINGERBREAD ROM
2.3.4 EH17 "ThunderHawk" II Semi-Official [Journaled]
EH17 AIO Volume/Hotspot/Lockscreen/Overscroll/Lag Fix
The first rom to combine ALL of these great mods!
Updated 1/05/2012
Updates, Important Notices, and General Information Posted Here!
I maintain RandomROM as a distribution across multiple forums. As such, the bulk of the information, details, etc. is maintained on my site. Rest assured, the links below will take you to aforementioned site where you will find all of the information you require regularly updated on how to use this rom. No subscription required. Always free (donations appreciated, never required). All of my roms, mods, themes, guides, etc. can be found on this easy to navigate site as well as my blog for upcoming updates. As always, I will still answer questions here.
Disclaimer: I am not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards, divorce, bankruptcy, acne, etc. Please do some research if you are a first time flasher BEFORE flashing this rom. YOU are choosing to make these modifications, and if you point the finger at me if something goes wrong with your device, I will laugh. By downloading, you agree to have read all pertinent information provided and to accept any and all responsibility subsequently.
Home Of The AIO Mod For EH17.I have updated and merged necrosan's wifi tether mod and mkasick's volume rocker mod together, as they change the same framework.jar. This means that Sprint Hotspot will work freely without an additional Wifi Tether app, and that your volume rocker can now seamlessly transition from silent, to vibrate, to loud. Included in this conglomeration are also maddoggin's lockscreen mod and qbking77's overscroll glow mod, as well as the CRT animation. This will currently remain known as the AIO mod.
To any rom/theme developers: Feel free to utilize this mod but be sure to reference myself and all aforementioned developers involved. It took a lot of time and effort to make these great features play nicely and it's important to keep the original creators in the loop.
Why Should I Use RandomROM?
This rom is a personal hobby of mine to maintain the greatest battery life that I can. I've scoured the forums searching for the newest and greatest tweaks, mods, etc. to include, and then carefully tested them all for battery performance. I've also made additional changes, developments, and additions all my own. As such, this rom has compiled the excellent work of many great developers into my own ideas and configurations. Contained within are many useful apps pre-installed as well as an effort to replicate my exact setup which has yielded me 0-1% battery loss per hour maximum when idle! On good days it's now beating RandomROM EC05 Phoenix!
All included apps have been RandomKing-Approved to conform with the best battery usage. I'm always on the lookout for more tweaks, possible thematic changes, etc. There should be no issues, but should I happen to find one, I may simply release a patch or quietly switch out the upload version.
Many of you have complained that others achieve much better battery life. The goal of RandomRom is to provide MY setup that's provided me with great battery life. Further details are available in the changelog of post 2, as well as more specific details and usage stats.

When should I use the AIO mod?
If you're on a rom that doesn't have it, or you flashed an EG22 theme that doesn't include it.
I really miss my old transparent messaging app, can I have that back?
You can now! I've just released a few variations of transparent Gingerbread messaging!
I love RandomROM, but the Framework FC's are just too much to handle and no-one can help me, what should I do?
Check out Phoenix EC05 linked in my signature at the bottom of this post .
How do I use my own ringtone, alarm, and notification mp3s?
Create a folder on your SD card called "media".
Inside of that create "audio".
Inside of that create:
"ringtones" for ringtones.
"alarms" for alarms.
"notifications" for notifications.

Sounds good! I did a quick analysis on it myself to see that everything included runs, nothing more really. I spent most of my time on this trying to include both necrosan's mod and mkasick's volume control mod I love so dear. But it worked for me.
Unfortunately, my phone had to go in for repairs, so I'm stuck waiting now until I can fiddle with it some more.

Are you using the stock kernel? Just wondering if the EG22Plus kernel would be okay, if you have made changes to the kernel i'll stick with what you have.

How long does it stay at Samsung logo? I flash this ROM and the first boot stuck at Samsung Logo forever (about 5 mins so far). I am getting anxious now.
Edit: Gave it up after sitting at Samsung logo for 10 minutes. Rolled back to old rom.

For those of us who just want our phones to $%#^@! work.
This is a clean EI22 based ROM with a custom Black theme. Most of the preloaded Sprint software is removed, with the exception of ThinkFree Office, MyFiles, and Memo. This ROM puts stability ahead of new features and is usally behind the curve when it comes to the latest mods. Those who are into bleeding edge/ricer ROMs will probably find this ROM boring.
Feature List:
Based on the original leaked EI22 NANDroid dump (noobnl)
Deodexed
Custom EI22 kernel with the following features: (source)
init.d script support
busybox/su
keyboard fixes
overclocking to 1.4Ghz
Voltage control
WIFI stability fixes
CWM5 Support
bootanimation.zip support (None included by default. Place one into '/system/media' and it will play)
Carrier IQ ("CIQ") removed (k0nane)
RFS file system
Stock Gingerbread Launcher with 3D fix (hoffman1984)
GPS Fix (hienkhieu)
Proper Reboot and Reboot to CWM Recovery on the power menu (Thanks to untermensch for the excellent quide)
Hacked Sprint Hotspot (Tortel1210)
1% battery (Icons by Mendozinas)
3G/1x icon fix (SenseiSimple)
CRT Off
CRT On (Thanks to Whitehawkx for the guide)
No battery popup
Screen stays off when unplugged
Volume rocker mod (sound on to vibrate to silent) (mkasick)
Silent Camera (SenseiSimple)
Scrollable Status Toggles - with 4G Button (lidroid, SensieSimple, 4G button mod, other fixes mods by me)
Howto and Review videos (thanks to qbking77!)

FAQ
FAQ:
Q: What's with the 'no root' kernel?
A: There are certain programs that will refuse the work if you have root access. The 'no root' kernel will strip root access at bootup and allow programs which refuse to run on rooted devices to run. To re-obtain root acess all you have to do is flash the regular CleanGB kernel in the first post.
Q: Where is the bootanimation.zip and how can I change the boot animation?
A: The stock boot animation is actually contained in the framework-res.apk file. If you want to use a custom boot animation, all you have to do is place your bootanimation.zip in the /system/media directory and it will play instead of the stock one.
Q: What about [insert feature here]?
A: See the todo list below
Todo/Coming Soon:

CleanGB 1.0.3
Power menu mod enhancement: Reboot dialog and progress now show "Reboot", "Your phone will reboot", "Rebooting...", instead of "Power Off", "Your phone will shut down.", "Shutting down..."
Fix for power menu bug (see this)
Fixed init.d script support, which was broken (and no one ever noticed!)
CleanGB 1.0
New kernel with capacitive button light fix
Scrollable Status bar toggles with 4G button
Build 18
Removed broken talkback app from system
Build 17
Improved kernel with stability fixes
Updated stock apps
Books
Gmail
Maps
Talkback
Market
Sprint Voice Mail
Youtube
Silent Camera

Build 16
ClockworkMod 5.x /ROM Manager Support
Build 15
Changed theme to account for apps that put black text in dropdown menu items
Put back "MyFiles" app as multiple sprint apps rely on it
Restored ClockPackage that links to MyFiles
Build 14
New Kernel - change to how ext4 partitions are mounted; will give you ext4 users those uber fast quadrant scores (that mean nothing).
Clock app was hard coded to use the "MyFiles" app (which is not in this ROM) to chose alarm tones. Hacked app to remove that feature.
Zipaligned apk files (yes, I forgot to do it)
Build 13
Added Kernel that supports overclocking to 1.4Ghz and voltage changes (source is in first post)
Removed useless buddiesnow package
Fixed voicemail notifications (black text on black background)
Added ext4 version
Build 12
Added 3g/1x icon fix (Screw you Sprint!)
Added all-black wallpaper to launcher's wallpaper picker to match default all black wallpaper
Added /system/etc/init.d directory for init.d script support
Build 0-11
I don't remember

Honestly, I don't give a crap about CIQ, so it's not a high priority but since lots of people care about it, I'll incorporate it as soon as someone releases a noCIQ friendly hotspot hack.

Thanks for posting some screenies...and not for nothing but doesn't removong CIQ make a small improvement on battery performance and free up a little extra RAM...I mean after all were only working with 385mb as opposed to the new standard of 1GB?

Wow I like the theme. When I saw blackish theme I was a little's turned off at first because I kind of hate those ones where literally everything is black and there is very little color at all. But when I saw the pictures I liked it as it looks mostly stock but with more black. Very classy looking.
Quick question: I've been hesitating on some of the other Tom's as they have had GPS or data or other weird issues that I am just not having running stock odexed with mkasick's ei22 key fix kernel and the GPS fix. I didn't know if the common theme there was the leaked dump or not. Have you seen anything like that with yours?

To be honest, I've had a few hiccups with EI22 that I never had with EH17. GPS has worked fine for me, but once or twice bluetooth has gotten stuck while turning on and the phone went into a zombie-like state. The bluetooth libraries and firmware are the same in EI22 as they were in EH17, so if there is a problem it has to be in the kernel. That's why I'm sticking as close to stock kernel as I can right now.
I've personally had no issues with data or WIFI.
Any chance of getting the power menu mod that includes REBOOT (and Reboot to recovery)?
Amazingly, this is the only EI22 ROM so far that has a battery % mod. Congrats!

NM. I found a guide on how to do it. It's pretty involved, so it will take some work. I'm going to tackle it.
Battery life is pretty sick on this! Unplugged at 100% before going to bed last night, and after six hours of sleep it was at 97%. Its now almost 12: 30, and am at 68%! Haven't even connected to my wifi yet, but do have an airrave, so I'm sure that helps. Thank you for this! Wondering how much more I would get out of it by flashing rodderick's nociq over this. Like the black too. Nice work!

May I ask why everyone is including the GPS fix into their ROMs? From my understanding from this thread. You don't need all the GPS locks as it is not needed and the reason you don't without the fix is to save battery life. I think the reason people have been wanting the fix was due to a separate issue that has since then been fixed.
You should leave the GPS fix out for those who don't want it. You can get good accuracy with just a few locks, and anymore locks is just a waste of battery life.

I think noobnl corrected his post since then to say that Samsung forgot to update the gpsd in the new EI22, still using a very old one from the early GB leaks and leaving us with a broken and half-working GPS. Therefore, it seems the only decent way to get good GPS performance again is to flash the GPS fix, which copies over the GPS daemon from the Fascinate (same as CM7).

I am going to run my phone without the GPS fix for the few days and see how it goes. I'm very heavy GPS user so if there is a problem I will notice it. If GPS runs fine for me I will probably remove the fix because battery life is more important to me than useless extra satelite locks.

I have used all of the ROM's available for the Atrix 2, here's my review on each
RebelROM
This was the first ROM I tried out so it's the bar, so to speak, for all A2 roms. First installed it when beta 2 was the current version...lovely ROM! I loved how fast and smooth it was, the minimal theming was perfect and it was very easy to install (CWM flash). I didn't care for the stock dialer and the MiFiles app UI was a nice change but it only supports pics/video/music, can't use it like a full fledged file explorer so it was a waste of space to me. It's an incredibly pared down ROM with smooth operation and subtle theming mods. I did encounter issues with Calendar sync (wouldn't sync) and the GPS didn't work either. Calendar sync was resolved by doing a factory reset..GPS was resolved by removing CWM on boot, which also removed the OC. Reflashing the rom after this (without wiping data) restored the OC and preserved GPS, although it was incredibly inaccurate....as in off by 2+ blocks. Also, turn by turn navigation didn't work....it would give me the directions but the actual turn by turn never kicked it, always said "finding gps". Was never able to work that out.
All in all, great ROM! Beta 3 added some nice theming and some more stuff under the hood but it too is incomplete. Was able to fix the major issue with Beta 3 by flashing one of JWM 28's 1% battery mods.
SCv5
This ROM I think is the fastest and smoothest of them all but my big issue with this one is some of the apps are carryovers from the Atrix 4g, like the text messaging and Blur setup one's. That being said, when I restored by apps and app data I lost out on all my text/sms messg's since the app used in this rom is not the same one used in RebelROM. This was a deal breaker as I despised the look and feel of the Atrix 4g software. If that wasn't enough, the settings menu interface also had the look of the Atrix 4g. I just could not get used to this new look and these apps. Speaking of apps, the Market app is the old one, and wouldn't update for me like it should. I ended up installing the new apk myself, minor inconvenience. And Google maps wasn't included. I did like the animations and UI aside from the portions of it described above, but it just wasn't for me.
AtrixBlaze
This one didn't last long on my phone. I first flashed v2, immediately got rid of it. The font was hard to read (too small, type of font didn't help either). The minimalistic text launcher icons weren't my cup of tea, the theme was over the top and the boot animation was low quality. No reboot option in the power menu. But everything else worked and in speed and smoothness there's no complaint. Ended up giving v3 a shot for the past 4 days or so, wanted to give this version a fair shake as the issues described above for the most part can be customized. This version the dev stepped up his game and came out with what looks like a complete graphical overhaul complete with beautiful ICS animations. The font was much better....but the theming was just way too much for my taste. The icons for the drop down toggles were kind of hard to see/figure out what they were for mainly due to their small size. The notification bar icons were cool, but some were just too small...like the usb one. Nice icons but due to the tiny size up there it just wasn't a good fit, IMO. And unless you stick with a neon blue theme, the bar will stick out like a sore thumb. It's got 2 dialers, one regular one modded like crazy and one in-call dialer....I much prefer the in-call dialer. On the regular dialer if you have big fingers like me you could be a little unsure if you pressed the right number since the whole button doesn't light up, the horizontal dividers and light up animations just didn't sit well with me either. The settings menu icons were nice but just added to the graphical overkill. No problems functionally with this ROM but the over the top theme is just too much.
VictoryROM
A minimalists' dream! Simple and to the point with some very classy mods that fit perfectly. Going into settings and clicking any subsection, the UI looks perfectly stock aside from the tastefully small, ICS blue boxes next to the optional selections...when selected, a tastefully small, ICS blue checkmark populates said box. Very nice! The dialer looks stock, and is for the most part...the mod he did to it doesn't jump out and slap you in the face, it's very subtle and clean looking. The in-call screen is similarly modded. My only qualms about this ROM is that it doesn't have the 1% battery mod nor a reboot option in the power menu...but the icons and text in said menu are clean and crisp. No OC, although that's a good thing as far as battery life is concerned. And the battery icon has no numerical charge indicator. Other than that, an absolutely perfect, classy, tastefully done ROM that works fully right out the box. The theming that has been done to it is not only minimal but complete and consistent throughout the ROM. I'm not sure if JWM 28's 1% battery mods will work on this ROM but i'm going to find out shortly Definitely some room for improvement under the hood, would love to see an optional OC version with the ICS animations and the 1% battery mod as well as reboot in the power menu but other than these small things this ROM absolute perfection!
Disclaimer:
The opinions stated above are those of mine and mine alone, are not intended to be rude, disrespectful or otherwise negative towards the developers of said ROM's. I appreciate the hard work they have put forth on these things and that they allow us to use their creations free of charge, I am simply giving my personal opinion of their ROM's since I have tried them all with the goal of providing an objective review for those who haven't.
Nice re-cap / review of our ROMs. I pretty much agree with your views. Only thing I would change is the note on install method for RebelRom. Its an install zip through bootstrap/CWM recovery. Not a "restore" file.
I'd like to see the options you mention in Victory ROM too. Especially the reboot in power menu option.

Really though, just wanted to spark some conversation, give a little insight to people who may be leaning one way or the other.
Good reviews, 916, thanks for putting that together..
This is not really a review, but kind of a tangent to the subject.. and I thought this would be a good place for it.
Ok. I've been mussing around with themes and whatnot, and I guess it turns out i'm like a rom scavenger or something..
I was running the Atrix Blaze rom for a while (great rom also), and actually i've tried all available roms/psuedo-roms and there were always a few things that I liked/disliked about each.. sooo, I researched a bit and learned a lot about what's where in terms of the system workings for the A2 (and androids in general), and started to change things myself..
That being said, I am currently on a modded version of VictoryROM (i performed a bunch of these mods to Atrix Blaze first, but decided to wipe data (3x) and go with the minimalistic V-rom and start over)...
I changed the fonts, dropdown items, status bar items, lockscreen, dockbar (hotseat), check/toggle buttons, etc.---> (For fun, see if you can spot where I got everything from! Big props and credit goes to those from which I borrowed!! ) I also tweaked out the build.prop and installed milestone overclock (still at stock 1000, but will probably go up to 1100), so I can fine tune the speed.
Not through tweaking and experimenting yet, but so far I'm calling it the altROM (not really - i'm not a rom baker, so it's kind of a joke..)

The SystemUI.apk has the quickpanel (dropdown) stuff, and the status bar icons, etc.
Not sure yet about all the settings menus yet, i'll get back to you on that. But i'm pretty sure that they are .9.png files, so it's best not to try and edit unless you are familiar with the process. You can usually just swap - copy over - the exixting .9.png files from different roms with no problem. I'll look into it more and let you know (if you don't figure it out yourself first)
Cool. I just used the icon changer in ROM Toolbox to swap the battery icon. Notice the reboot icon/script I have on my screenshot. That came from RTbox as well. Kinda cheating. But I have changed out some .apks (not really all the difucult either using RTbox.
I have a Linux box so my methods will be a little different than most here using Windows apps. Thanks.

and i've only had this phone (my 1st "smartphone") since January..so, point being anyone can do it

Thanks for your review !
IMO, difference between these ROMs is themes, no more.
Speed, smooth ... are same; bugs, lag and something that locked by Moto are same of course!
Simple reason : all of them based on stock 2.3.5/2.3.6 of Moto for Edison.
Things that I hate on based stock Rom for Atrix 2, have not been fixed yet in all available "cook" Rom now :
- Lock screen
- Light sensor problem
- Lag touching when use virtual keyboard (tried many keyboard apps)
- Freeze when slide to answer (same as Milestone 3 yrs ago)
- Hidden functions/options in Setting menu
- True mobile Hotspot (no needed for sign-in AT&T account)
- Free-call apps compatibility like Viber, Skype, Yahoo Messenger (video call)
- Better camera quality (color, saturation, exposure...)
...
So, change will come if :
- Motorola releases new Rom for A2 (or at least fix all bugs that I listed above)
- Bootloader unlocked for flashing AOSP or any full/ported Android ROM.
Because it's AT&T version so I'm sure Moto still locks things that they think it should be or AT&T want special Rom for them like this way.
Hope and wait now !

There are nine or so .png files in SystemUI.apk/res/drawable-hdpi called stat_sys_wifi_signal_(something)
I think the 4g icons are also in there.. under zz_moto_stat_sys_data_(something)
You can just swap out those .png files with the ones you want. PM me or search if you want a detailed explanation as to how..
@vinamilk
That's one way to look at it. Anothèr is despite motorola/at&t's efforts to keep the phone locked down, development is underway. The community is working it out. Its a testament to how good this handset really is and the potential here. Is the glass half empty or half full? ;-) in the end, our accomplishments will be all the sweeter for having to go the extra mile.

KEB64, if Google gives you full ROM (AOSP), it's more easier for you to re-build, "cook" or tweak yourself. But Rom that based on stock which locked/deleted functions for special request from Carrier agent is hard to tweak more.
I appreciate the effort of all Devs here but we have to admit a lot of limitation when cooking Rom from locked stock Rom.
Understood.
