Now the keyboard/docks seem to finally be popping up on both side of the Atlantic has anyone seem what happens if you stick a very basic (Huawei E220 etc) 3G modem into a USB slot on the dock ?
I'm not expecting it to work out of the box, life isn't that perfect, but there may be something that we can work on ?
With android 3.1 coming with "ridiculous" USB support this might very well be a possibility. And would be awesome!

I have a hannspree sn10t1 tablet.
The tablet does not have a usb port but does have a miniUSB port.
So i wanted to connect a keyboard to it ( i got a tablet case with a keyboard in it) and got a usb adapter as well.
But it seems its not working.
At fist i thought that the adapter was defective, but i got a second one and it still does not work.
What can i do?
I tried connecting different stuff on the sub adapter and it does not show anywhere anything pointing out that there is something on usb connected.
I want to use a 3g stick as well.
What is wrong ?
Is it the software or the hardware?
Same problem
Hi,
I have the same problem.
Did you manage to get this sorted?
Thanks

Can anyone say if gb or ics or custom rom is ever going to support hid for keyboards/mouse, and hdmi only works if a reboot is done it appears disconnect and hdmi is lost, very annoying.
Could anyone say if these two flakey areas of the lg will be fixed soon ?
I have heard HID drivers are standard for all ICS builds but I can't confirm. Maybe it will be fixed then...
Would it be worth switching to the htc evo 3d is hdmi & hid better on this device than on the opti 3d? I've tried to find out but can't clarify if the Htc definitely support hid I have heard it will connect to some keyboards but im not sure its just on custom roms.
I have bought another hdmi cable encase its this that is making trout so ropey, at least my atria although having many faults could do that well.
Isn't ics at least 6 months away?
Thanks.

For Hid, they may add it in GB, or for sure in ICS. About the HDMI, I have it working 100%, I've bought the original HDMI cable for motorola from handtech, some reported that some of the HDMI cables posted in ebay doesn't work properly.
For evo, I've read that HTC's phones are the same, does not support HID.
Yes I have order a moto hdmi cable in the hope it fixes the issue but I somehow doubt it, the as the cable supplied works intermitently mainly on reboot of the system.
Its not an app blocking it but may be a power supply issue as its as if the signal is just not strong enough to register on the phone.
Must be some genious on here that knows better.

Result with the hdmi at least, its a software bug of course! it is very intermittent just plugging in the cable, but if you put the lg to sleep (no dont shoot it) with the hdmi cable in, and just press the power key to wake it automatically outputs the hdmi !
Must be a fix for that software wise surely. Keyboard still an issue, just gonna have to wait for gb or ics more likely ics as no one yet has confirmed to me that gb supports hid even in the deveopers leaked version.Ohh well.

Can't seem to find a definitive answer as to whether the phone can detect a USB connector with appropriate resistor added to signal dock mode (desktop vs car).
Apparently the stock ROM doesn't have support, but perhaps CM9, etc may?
Can someone with first hand knowledge comment?
Thanks!

I don't have a dock, but CM10 has a specific settings item for Dock Options. I'd assume this means it works...
I think that might be generic.
I'm not sure if the hardware detects a resistor between pins 4 & 5 on the USB cable to signal if its in desktop dock vs car dock.
We use our phones as alarm clocks too, so not having that feature pretty much kills the phone for us.
Finding something like the N1 that has good docking abilities that isn't huge is tough now a days. (Too bad there are few phones with POGO pins, that makes the experience awesome)
I am thinking of getting a Bluetooth keyboard, and maybe mouse for my galaxy s blaze. I know that it is very impractical, but I have a reason to get a keyboard and mouse for a device with a screen that big.
I have a few questions though. I have heard a lot about Bluetooth keyboard/mouses on tablets, and I haven't heard about them so much on phones. So will I be able to use them on my Galaxy S Blaze? Seconds I am wondering if it would be able to connect to both a keyboard and a mouse at the same time, or is it only capable of connecting to one Bluetooth device. And third I am wondering if any keyboard/mouse will work, and if there are any particularly good ones out there.
I am using CyanogenMod 10.0.0-t769 on my Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G.
I looked at threads for other phones with Bluetooth mouses/keyboards, but I found none for the Blaze.

I know for sure the BT keyboards will work with our phone, I have used a friend's mini BT keyboard he had for his ipad. As far as the mouse I haven't tried that in a few versions. I think the last time I tried a mouse was on GB and on my myTouch 4g. I was not a good experience. It was not a free moving mouse like you use on the computer but like the scrolling ball on the phones. It only went in the up/down and left/right positions. It might be different now but I'm not sure. I'm waiting on an OTG cable but it prolly wont be here for a few weeks (damn hong kong shippers) though they are cheap if you want to test them.

Ok, thanks, getting the mouse would really be pointless anyways because of the small screen. But you think any bluetooth keyboard would work? Would you recommend any particular one? Because I really don't have much experience with keyboards, I just always use the one on my laptop, and I wouldn't know what you really would want for a bluetooth keyboard.
You can go with something small like this: http://www.amazon.com/Fosmon-Blueto...965721&sr=1-15&keywords=4"+bluetooth+keyboard or go with one of those flexible roll up keyboards like this: http://www.amazon.com/Flexible-Wire...0&sr=1-9&keywords=flexible+bluetooth+keyboard
You can always get an OTG cable for like a dollar or two and hook a usb hub up and use a wireless keyboard/mouse combo too. I'm interested to mess with usb host with this phone. I just got a few flash drives I wanna play with.
Hello.
I recently came into possession of an LG G5 Android phone, T-Mobile variant H830. I was planning to use it for software development, and I was wondering if there's a way to get it to connect to the internet using my ADSL connection. I'm fairly new to the wonderful world of Android, so please bear with me.
I realize Wi-Fi is the path of least resistance... but it's not the best option in this particular house and I have a fine Ethernet network just sitting there waiting to be used. Also, my old Windows Phone (ducks) is able to use it just fine.
I have a USB type C hub (a Microsoft HD-500 display dock) and a small collection of USB to Ethernet adapters (Realtek RTL8153, ASIX AX8872B). Unfortunately, the LG G5 has no interest in recognizing any of them.
I've also played around with reverse tethering to my PC, but apparently it requires root access to even work, and even after that it doesn't even work very well.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make this work? Should I be looking into flashing LineageOS? Or maybe I just have the wrong phone?
Thanks.
Today's progress: I played with an app called ReverseTethering, which works by establishing a VPN connection to its host PC over an ADB-controlled USB pipe. Most apps seem fine with it. However, the Google Play Store insists on using Wi-Fi to download apps and won't recognize a reverse-tethered connection. It does resume in-process downloads over the connection, but won't initiate new ones. My conclusion is that this is an app bug, and that it is checking for Wi-Fi when it really should simply be checking for a valid connection.
There's an app called Fake Wifi that will apparently hack apps into thinking their connection is over Wi-Fi when it's not. However, this app needs a framework that requires a rooted device. So, back to square one.
(NB: I'd prefer not to root my device for security reasons.)
Today's progress: connecting a Sharkk UH-SKRJ11 (RealTek RTL8153 chipset) directly to the phone using a USB C-to-A adapter works. A couple of apps seem iffy about it, including the Google Maps offline downloader, but the Google Play Store and the LG updater work. So this is probably as good as it gets without major surgery.
This suggests that the problem was in fact the Microsoft HD-500 display dock. It would charge the phone, but the phone didn't seem to recognize it as a USB hub.
Does anyone have a suggestion for a USB Type C hub that works with this phone? Ideally I'd like to use Ethernet and charge at the same time.
Hello,
I work on the desktop team at a company and we started using Dell's DW-15 USB-C docks since Dell is phasing out the E-port. Out of curiosity, I plugged my phone into one a couple of months ago and everything but the display output works. We also have Dell 96NPS USB-C to Ethernet adapters that work fine with the G5.
I have this here.
Bought from eBay. Works on both G5 and V20. Should work on any phone that supports SlimPort.
I have connected it to the phone with display and various peripherals. Did not try ethernet dongle though.
I'm a bit puzzled that the Microsoft dock did not function right. I though that too was simply a display/slim-port design. Or maybe it's only the hub/otg functionality that's unavailable?
@askermk2000: thanks for the note. Any idea what the model number is on that device?
The Microsoft dock situation is quite odd. Before fully patching the OS (the phone arrived with the March security patch, I think) it wouldn't see anything at all on the dock (which has a Surface Ethernet Adapter aka RTL8153 plugged in). After patching, it suddenly started working, and working fine. Then after patching up to latest, it sort of half-works. It connects and data flows, but the phone pops a "Connecting" message for a minute every so often, as if it were pulling a new DHCP address or something. When connected directly to the Ethernet adapter, things work fine.
(And when I say fine, I mean mostly fine. Every now and then I plug in the adapter and nothing works. Disconnecting and reconnecting sometimes works. Changing USB connection settings sometimes works. Sometimes rebooting works. <shrug>)
@Keynesian
I'm sorry but there is not a single marking on that thing. A truly generic device.
That exact one seems to have become rare now. This looks like the successor, though it has one less usb port than mine.
Here's a listing of mine.
There are many generic types, with or without hdmi, one or more usb etc
One option with aluminum housing, 1 usb 1 hdmi and usb-c power input should cost no more than about $10
I think I got mine for around that (which is a more expensive model), but I got lucky and found a lonely expiring auction. Saved maybe $20
Weird about that dock of yours. Hopefully you'll have better experience with another one.
If I had an ethernet dongle I'd try to confirm if it works with or without the dock on my H850, but that could also depend on the type of chipset and driver used (and LG's flavor of the month it seems).
Just ordered one of these off Ebay. We'll see how it goes in a month:
