First of all, sorry if I post here but I'm not sure what section I should post.
I'm a very very happy owner of HTC hD2 currently running android on a custom rom and I wouldn't change it for any reason. My girlfirend, who owns a blackberry wants to switch to android and she asked me about a good phone.
What I'm looking for is a phone:
easily rootable
able to run custom android roms (i'm actually running american android, but another good one would be good as well)
able to use 16gb SD card
at least 3g but 4g is better.
she will use it with simple mobile (as I do)
doesn't have to be the newest, maybe something that can be found used.
Thank you very much

Hey All,
I'm new here so I apologize for the rudimentary question:
I am buying a new cell phone, and here are the 2 choices I've narrowed it down to:
1) HTC Touch Diamond (through Telus in Canada)
OR
2) LG Bliss (through Bell in Canada)
Neither of these run Android, and I'm not xda savvy enough to reconfigure these things.
They are both the SAME price up here in Canada, so I just want to get the better phone for my money.
I can't afford the Android version of the HTC model, by the way, if that helps you give me better advice.
Thanks!!
p.s.: Please don't send me your opinions of Telus or Bell service. I'm fine with both, and have had no problems with either company over the years. I'm just asking for your opinion as to which phone is better, as they are the exact same price.
Take the diamond!
I think the LG bliss only runs on a proprietary operating system by LG. So you can't really customize anything nor install applications or anything else. Since you joined this board I guess you want to use your phone not only for phone calls
Welcome to forums
Go for Diamond!
bliss will not have the great support you can find here for HTC devices

What made you to think that Android would be easy to configure? Out of the box you don't have to configure with any other OS based phones including Windows Mobile, Symbian, Linux, iPhone etc.
I would suggest Diamond, but Diamond won't let you add external memory like MicroSD or MiniSD. I have no idea about LG Bliss though, but I would pickup Diamond over Bliss any day because of the support you would get and no need to run to Telus or Bell for everything even after the contract is over I can go out and get supported easily.

GO for the Diamond if these are your only 2 choices...
Hey sorry if this is in the wrong section but i couldn't decide what section would be most appropriate. I am new to rooting and have only had my rooted G1 for about 2 months. I am looking to get a new android phone and I would like to know what T-mobile or ATT (if it can be unlocked for use on T-mobile) android phone has alot of roms to flash like the G1 (I love being able to change the feeling of my phone every few days) and with better hardware than the G1.
I was thinking of waiting for the MyTouch Slide but not sure if it would be worth the wait.
The Nexus One has a great ROM community and in my opinion the best ROMs out there. I use Cyanogen's ROM as my primary ROM.
As well as a great ROM community, the Nexus One can be purchased unlocked from the factory for use on T-Mobile or AT&T 3G.
Hey folks, im thinking of buying an hd2 and i have a few questions. I have searched quite a bit about porting to android, but i have a few questions unanswered.
First off, can i unlock the hd2, port it, and then use it on att's network?
About the voice issues, are they fixed? i read up on it and i couldnt get a sure answer, all i read was it was a problem with the radio or something.

You can use an unlocked HD2 on AT&T, but you won't have 3g. AT&T uses a different frequency for their 3g.
Most of the android builds I've tried work great. You will have to flash HardSPL onto your phone and flash on a new Android-friendly Windows Mobile ROM. Check out the ROM Development under the HD2 forum. There are several tutorials on how to do all this.
Currently there is no permanent ported android build yet as in nand.
The android its either running in your SD card or RAM.
With HTC HD2 you have dual boot to Winmo & Android.
Depending on Winmo ROM & Radio & Android build will get stability.
So you can try diff ROMs & build to test out.
Thank you for such a quick reply, so just to be clear the voice issue ive heard of is fixed? and i can unlock the phone and use it with att and put android on it as well? i dont use data much so 3g wont be missed much.
voice issue depends on the version of radio rom of ur HD2.
roughly told it is fixed (be frank, so far I haven't encountered this problem from my day 1 lol)
Honestly, why would you buy an HD2 if you want to run Android. As wonderful as the development here is, it will most likely never be as stable or bug free as a device which runs Android natively.
I'd much sooner buy an HTC EVO or Desire HD. In fact I'm tempted to try and sell my HD2 to get one.
I'm by no means trying to put down the work of the Devs, they do a fantastic job and are very close to what I would call a stable build for daily use. But seriously, you will find Android on the HD2 frustrating at the best of times when compared to a device which is designed to run it.
P.S - This should not be in the development forum.
hd2 running andriod
hi im new to the forum thing but i know a bit about phones the hd2 running android is a very good option for you there are a few issues still effecting hd2s at the moment one is mms cannot recieve or send mms (pic msgs)and the other issue is the bluetooth its not a major issue as you can get a blutooth app from the store i run a build that uses the ram of my phone to speed up the build and i havent had any problems with it as of yet and its a lot quicker if your new to flashing i would just put the build on a 8gb sd card (you need to set it up first )but its a lot quicker than the normal builds that run from the sd card
if you have any problems let me know and ill get a reply asap

I want an hd2 because its sort of a cheaper alternative for me to use than to buy a samsung captivate or vibrate, and its one of the few GSM phones with its kind of specs at its price. Also ill be switching carriers in 6 months so i just want to use it until then.
And everyone else, thanks for the info, you've been a great help and if i need help ill ask again, and i wont try to clutter the forums, i didint realize there was a Q&A forum, my bad lol

If you use AT&T get a AT&T phone. . . Not because of any real reason except native carrier devices really do work better.
I had a unlocked iPhone forever and no 3g sucks. Even if you don't use it much, it's a waste not to have it.

Wow, i wish i had seen this before, sorry for the post and thanks alot for the help
I know it is almost sacriligious (?) but I have an opportunity to buy one of there unlocked and was wondering if anyone here has had one that can compare it to the inspire. Since it is unlocked I think it will work on ATT? Any help or opinions would be appreciated.....
It'll work for voice, but you may not be able to get 3G data depending on which model HD2 it is. You'll need a T9193 (the Australian model) not the T8585 (I think) made for Tmobile.
True that. The oz version will work on 1 of the att channels so depending on what you have in your area it could be a very good experience for you, or just very expensive.
Also, it isn't anywhere near as fast as the Inspire- which can be had for free if you want 2 more years of AT&T.
Sent from my CM7 Inspire 4G with that special XDA app.
I appreciate the input. In my business I just cannot be without so if I continue to play with the phones I feel more comfortable with a spare I can just switch the sim card and be back online.
I had two Captivates that I sold to get something else. I am very happy with the inspire but you know how that goes, something better? Something newer?
I have an HD2. I love it. It's the best phone I ever had for customizing. It has much the same specs as the Inspire except for the camera and data radio. Oh...and the LCD isn't the "Super" version of the Inspire, but I find it quite excellent, nonetheless.
I'm currently using the cmylxgo Stock DesireHD ROM on it, which is essentially the same ROM on the Inspire. The Inspire is faster, smoother and cleaner, but the HD2 version isn't a slouch. It works amazingly well. But the glory of the HD2 is being able t use a whole host of custom ROMs on it. I'm actually using two android ROMs on my HD2. One is flashed to internal memory (NAND) and the other, a Nexus S CyanogenMOD by AmeriCanAndroid, is on the SD card. Both of these are excellent.
Some people use WindowsPhone 7 on the HD2 also. But be assured, you wouldn't have any boredom with an HD2.
Hello XDA!
I wondered if anyone could provide me with a System.img of any MIUI v4 ROM so I could use it in a AVD? All MIUI downloads I found high and low on XDA and elsewhere are in .zip format and I currently lack a Android handset to create one myself easily :/ Or is there maybe a way to convert a zipped ROM to a system.img with the help of a PC? I have access to Linux aswell if that should matter.
Thanks in advance for any help!
And let me add a bit of back-story as to why I want to even do this for anyone interested:
I have been interested in Android ever since it was released and had a G1 and HTC Desire in the past however since I'm very fickle about GUIs and visual design and in that department Android wasn't my cup of tea sadly so I sold the phones again. Though I have been following the developments of MIUI very closely and I'm genuinely impressed by the massive advancements they continuously make. And with my phone contract up for renewal in April and the iPhone 5 looking worse and worse to me with each passing day I read things about it I am looking to take the plunge to one of the Samsung devices for real once I renew.
Though this time I don't want to buy a device first and regret it later so I thought of sitting down and familiarize myself with MIUI v4 beforehand in a AVD which I already have setup and running fine, I just need MIUI running there so hopefully someone can help me out!^^
