Successor to htc touch pro2

As we have seen and heard all about the new HTC HD2, most of us really like this phone or love this phone. We want this phone for our own likes. Some like it for the looks, some like it just because it is the latest and greatest, some like it but want it to have a keyboard, and there are the ones that agree with all these reasons and more. Well here is another HTC phone that we can all talk about and send an E-Mail to [email protected] asking for SPRINT TO GET THIS PHONE! http://htcpedia.com/news/hd3-is-goin...-the-line.html Check this phone out and yu decide for yourself on how much you WANT this latest phone from HTC to come to SPRINT. Send an E-Mail to [email protected] telling him how much and how bad you want this phone, and wether or not you also would like it with or without a keyboard. We had a choice between the HTC TOUCH PRO & HTC TOUCH DIAMOND. Now we have a choice between the HTC TOUCH PRO2 & will later be able to also choose the HTC TOUCH DIAMOND2. If SPRINT can get the HTC HD2 & HTC HD2 PRO from HTC because enough of their customers are asking for these, then it also would be that we can have SPRINT convince HTC to manufacture both the HTC HD3 & HTC HD3 PRO. So, again I say let's all send an E-Mail to [email protected] telling him that we SPRINT CUSTOMERS WANT THESE PHONES!

But I don't want these phones. I just got my Touch Pro 2. I'm a wierdo in that I don't buy a new phone every 3 weeks in order to keep up with the latest and greatest. At some point I have to call it quits and stick with whatever it is I have for a while. If they build it, I will not come.
Another issue is that I very seriously doubt that emails left with some Sprint exec are going to convince HTC to build the HTC NON-AMATEUR HD-12 or whatever it is you want them to invent.

I am glad that you read this post. You are entitled to your opinion. What you don't realize is that we can talk to these people and if enough of us do that, then they will talk to the manufacture in responce to the mass requests from the customers "US" who are the reason for them to have their jobs and also to justify their positions.

Anyone that has an opinion about this matter wether positive or negitive is entitled to let that be heard. So, everyone please post your opinion here. If you agree with me, then just send an E-Mail to [email protected] and also let him know what you think. The people who disagree, you can also send an E-Mail and explain why you don't want that phone.

What you don't seem to realize, besides the fact that spelling things correctly is likely to make a better impression upon those executives you're trying to convince, are several factors:
- There is no evidence that Sprint has ever really listened to their user base irrespective of how vociferous or well-grounded their howls of protest may be. See, for example, the 21,352 threads about Windows Mobile 6.5 on the Touch Pro 2. Other examples include many months of disabled GPS on the Mogul, and so on.
- An executive who gets even several hundred emails requesting a particular extant device may very well presume that those represent a majority of everyone who wants it. They need to sell way more than that. The exec will listen to the company's research department, not emails.
- Emails demanding that one company somehow force another company to create and manufacture a device that does not currently exist are simply not going to carry any weight at all. At a level where developing a device costs millions, that's not how businesses work.
In short, I think this is, like every other internet petition, a complete and utter waste of time.
Worse, it distracts from current real issues with the phones we actually have in our hands. I'm not personally convinced that, for example, a letter-writing campaign about the broken Bluetooth on the Touch Pro 2, will do any good at all. However, it's a real problem with a real device for which we've paid real money and which has real consequences for for the day-to-day usability of the devices. Some would argue that it violates the implied contract of usability ("it has Bluetooth!") made when we bought the phones, since many people are unable to hang up through Bluetooth, obviating any real utility to the feature.
Any energy devoted to writing emails to Sprint execs would be better-spent asking them to live up to their obligations with respect to devices they're currently selling rather than non-existent devices that, based on past experience, they'll break and never fix in the future.

The sucessor to MY Touch Pro 2 must have Windows Mobile 7 out of the box and the speed to run it.

What? For some reason you harbor some doubt that if Sprint sells it with 6.5 with a promise of an upgrade they might not provide such an upgrade?

I've owned the Motorola Select 2000e (literally the size of a brick), Motorola Timeport, Motorola Rizr z3, HTC Herald (Wing), HTC Touch Pro 2. Don't think I didn't want the devices in between them, but I agree, I'm eyeballing the HTC HD2 with double the horsepower of the Touch Pro 2 and God knows what the folks here on XDA will dream up for it but at some point you have to jump in with both feet and accept the reality like buying a PC the moment you do, your device is an instant relic. We also have to face the reality that whether contract, no contract and/or unlocked it won't be cheap. Yes, T-Mobile reduced the price of the TP2 from $349.99 to $269.99 to pave the way for the HD2 but at what cost. At what cost to any device as we move forward?
I have screen protectors, "Body Gloves" and 8GB memory cards; if I can't sell my devices in mint condition on eBay or Craigslist for what I paid for my devices I'll cry!!! I can sell my TP2 for $300; good luck selling my Dell Axim for even a $100.
Okay, the Snapdragon is twice as fast as my device, but what does that mean; twice as fast at what; opening my emails or my programs? I'm glad to see that there are both sides of this issue being discussed. I had also originally started out with a brick for a phone and had went smaller and smaller until the idea of using the phone for more than just making phone calls. I had the original HTC TOUCH and was happy with it for a while. I had quickly got very tired of using the onscreen keyboard, and wished that I could get a keyboard. I started looking for a new phone. The HTC TOUCH PRO was what I was going to get for an upgrade, so while I was waiting for the date that I could upgrade my phone I had found the HTC TOUCH PRO2 and really loved what I saw. At the time when I saw this, it was not even released from HTC anywhere. What I saw was leaked to the internet. there were people who also did not believe that would make it's way to market, but here it is. While waiting for my upgrade date, I had upgraded my wifes phone to the HTC TOUCH PRO. She was totally against that, but I did that for her anyway. Now she just loves it and can not live without having a keyboard on her phone. I told ter that I was going to upgrade my HTC TOUCH and she was not too happy with that, but once she had gotten used to her new phone, she was not against that idea except for one thing, the price. I told her that she did not have to worry since I would pay for it all from my side money, so then she was in agreement. My HTC TOUCH had quite a few problems with freezing and random rebooting, and some times I had to pull the battery to reboot it when it froze up. Then I had to have it replaced because it would not stop a continous loop of starting and shutting down, even if I had tried to do a hard reset. The second replacement would also do random reboots, but only once in a while no matter what, wether I was online or on a call. I was happy with getting rid of that phone. The very first day that the HTC TOUCH PRO2 became available from SPRINT, I had called and ordered it. I still have the original ROM on my phone and I have n

I still have the original ROM on my phone from SPRINT and I have not had the problems that most people are complaining about. I have downloaded some things to my phone to tweak it a little and to add eye candy. I use everything on my phone that it came with and what I downloaded except for 2 things, SPRINT TV & SPRINT MUSIC. I have no need for either of them at all. I download music and video's to my 16GB card and I stream video to my phone from my SLING BOX PRO. On average I stream anywhere between 10GB & 15GB of data every month. There are some things that I can not stand that ALL of the US carriers had requested from HTC. They had all requested that there be no FRONT FACING CAMERA, and that the FM RADIO be either disabled in the GSM modles and when the ROM for the CDMA models be written, that they wish for it to be excluded. They had ALL did this, so they can later SELL us their CRAP that we should have gotten just like the EUROPIAN & ASIAN models got right out of the box. According to HTC, they said that the carriers customers did NOT want those features. We know that is a load of crap. So, as I say LET'S STAND UP AND TELL AND DEMAND WHAT WE WANT! We don't have to just sit back and wait for whatever just happens to come our way. So, who ever your carrier is wether it be AT&T, SPRINT, T-MOBILE, or VERIZON, call them and speak up and be heard. If enough of us do just this, they will listen. That's why the HTC HD2 will be coming to the US and to T-Mobile first, because enough of us spoke up loud enough for us to be heard. HTC HD2 vs/or HTC Desire?

Hi all,
I am new to the forum and am in the process of updating my Next G phone. I am limited by time as my current phone [Blackberry Bold 9000] is fast becoming unusable and I will have to make a choice quickly, maybe tomorrow. The HD2 impressed me, especially with the Roms being developed and available. Making Windows more user friendly and taking the phone to its best. Talking with my phone provider - Telstra, they informed me that the HTC Desire is just now on the market and I am reading glowing reports on the latest Android system and the Desire... So I have been researching all I can on these 2 phones. I have only a little Windows mobile experience from some years ago with an Imate, however have no experience with the Android system.
I don't plan on returning to Blackberry and have narrowed my choice to ether the HD2 or the Desire... This phone will be on a renewed 24 month business contract, so is a phone I will "be with" for sometime! I do understand many of the criticisms of Windows mobile and the very positive reaction to the latest Android system. Also that the all new Windows 7 will be available later in the year. The Desire reads very well in its specs and the few reviews that are available have it as the one to beat for 2010? The HD2 has had much more reviews and comment available, having been on the market longer. Many people satisfied with the phone in standard form [and some not so] and many very happy with it in its modified form with custom Rom.... My decision doesn't seem easier.
Some areas I am thinking on are - Will the HD2 become dated quickly, with fewer windows 6.5 apps and less dev work once the totally new Windows 7 becomes available and the new handsets reach the market? Does this make the current Desire with its latest Android system a better long term option as it is not faced with the release of a whole new operating system just around the corner within its brand and apps and updates will continue to grow? Part of me is saying go with my original choice of the HD2 and its big screen, with a custom Rom. AND, part of me is saying go with the new Android Desire.... ohhh and yes I have read reference to Dev work being done on Windows 7 for the HD2 [That's a potential plus]
Unfortunately I am not in a situation of being able to handle and get to know these phones pre purchase. However would be interested to hear the thoughts of others ie: what would have you chose one over the other?

I've had both What do you want it for? If you need WM for office use get the HD2 otherwise get the desire! Android is much better in a social aspect I would say. The only thing I like about the HD2 was the Sense overlay and it is the same if not better on the desire
Oh and there is a gameboy advanced emulator on the desire which works great... just in case that would be a deciding factor for you

Morphgear and Fpsece work well on the HD2.
I must say I prefer the look of the HD2 and the bigger screen, but android is just that much better than WM and thus think you should get the desire.

I am a farmer/rancher and also have a small business importing workwear/casual wear from the USA. I will use the phone for accessing manufacturer websites. Storing photos of my products. Recording expenses, checking weather updates. Email and Instant messaging... I do travel from time to time and recently sat next to a guy on a flight who was wathcing James Bond movies on his Ipod touch. That was neat I did contact HTC Australia a month ago, to see if the HD2 would be released with Android here Down Under, but was told not planned at present and my contact and interest would be passed on. Of course thats what is always said. I have to think long term use out of this phone ie: to 24 months - The Desire seems a great choice, however would the HD2 with an aftermarket custom Rom be equally as good? Which is the best rom around right now? Will Windows 6.5 App availability continue to rise once Windows 7 hits the streets or will it taper off? Android Apps I am sure will continue to grow...

I have a Leo, so far i love it in every way possible. I had an android device before and i think they are a lot easier to use. Yet i still wouldn't trade my Leo for the world

Yes, my personal preference is Android. WM has always proved to be too slow and buggy for me. But hey, it's all about YOUR preference. You can't really go on what we say. 10/10 of us might say get one phone, and you might get it and hate it. Too bad you can't try before you buy on cell phones. :/

Yep woud great to handle both phones and see them working. I live rural, tho did get into Telstra shop to take a look, but had nothing for me to see working.

I never buy a phone I didn't get to at least play with first. All the videos and reviews in the world couldn't change that.

I like that policy too. However when u live rural, somethings are not possible and research is your best tool...

I would go with the Desire. The HD2 is running Windows Mobile 6.5, which is still pretty much the same underlying Windows CE kernel that's been in use since Windows Mobile 5. Because been confirmed that the HD2 will not recieve an offical Windows Mobile 7 upgrade, meaning your new shiny phone will be obsolete by the end of the year, you likely be stuck with this obsolete operating system forever if you buy this device. The only option would be an unofficial port of Windows Phone 7 to the HD2, but I'm not sure how that is coming along lately.
Conversely, Android is constantly undergoing development, and seeing as the Desire is a top of the line Android device, updates to the latest versions of Android are pretty much guaranteed for that device. The Desire will probably have support for longer than the HD2, considering it won't be obsolete only a few months after you bought it.
I don't think that you could go wrong when choosing a new device, as they're both top of the line smartphones with grade A hardware and XDA behind them, but IMO the Desire is the superior of the two.

Thanks Dave, I do appreciate all you have said. I did read that Microsoft was not going to allow Windows 7 to be installed on the HD2 and that there were devs out there working on Windows 7 as an unofficial OS for the HD2. The desire is a great option and makes sense, especially for the obvious reasons you mention... I have managed to gain a couple of extra days to make a decision, as I will not be in a mobile service area and not in desperate need of the phone till Monday. Thanks again...

I take it you havent been to Australia? At present I am a 6 hour round trip from the nearest Telstra shop. [Telstra is the contracted provider of these phones right now.] Also a week ago, on a visit to the nearest Telstra shop to my home - a 2 hour return trip, I was informed there will be no shop demos available of these phones, only the non functioning store dummies! Which is the norm... I will travel 6 hours for a beer, but not 6 hours to look at a phone!, especially a store dummy So I will keep researching.

Android vs Windows Mobile

I will buy a new phone this week and i want to know your opinion to decide which model should i decide for.
In relation to Operative Systems, in terms of apps, games, development, contacts, and updates, it's better to chose Android or WM?
And what models do you reccomend in the OS that you indicate?

Unless there's a specific WM application you need (which appears to be the case so far, there is some specific scientific measurement application that does not exist on Android) then I would say go to Android. That is, if you've never used either before: Android all the way.

I know that WM is on its last legs, but I still love it and the HTC phones that use the OS. But just looking at a phone is just the first step. Look at the cost, not only of the phone but of the 2 year service contract (especially with the data plan). For example, the phone may be $200 but the 2 year service may add over $2400 to that cost.
And what about service? AT&T is threatening to limit internet use. Sprint (which has the best Android phone, the Evo) may have poor coverage in your area.
Is there hidden fees? I hear that Verizon still has roaming fees within the US.
So don't just look at which OS is best, look at the whole picture. It can get very frustrating if those monthly bills keep growing or that dropped calls is an issue, or that the use of the internet is limited, especially if you are tied to a 2 year contract.

I recently switched to Android after using WM for over 4 years. I don't regret it a bit. Android is the future.

It really just depends on your interests. I have a thing for having my phone work exactly how I want it, I make lists of thing I don't like and find solutions for all of my problems. So if your a totally anal perfectionist, wm may just be your thing.
I don't have much experience with android, but my experiences were pretty positive. The only thing that bothers me is the reliance on hardware buttons to go back and home. It just seems like a bit annoying for me. But its definetly the future, there are thousands of apps and very good support across the forums.
For windows mobile, if you like touching and stuff, HD2 is definetly the way.
For android I'm not 100% sure but I hear the evo and desire are good. Personally pretty much all the android phones look pretty much the same to me.
Pretty much, if you want the smoothest, most pretty and reliable experience, go android.
If you want total customisation and be able to modify the device to suit your needs, go
WM.
On the subject of plans and whatnot, I always buy my phones outright and go prepaid since its the best option for me. But its up to you about your plans.

I'm going to assume that you've used WinMo before and have not used Android yet. If you have, you wouldn't be asking this.
You may have just flashed a new ROM on your WinMo device. You would think it's fast and snappy. But in fact, compared to even an average Android device, your tricked out WinMo device is actually still significantly slower.

[Q] Wanted: GSM Device with Hard Keyboard... Which one?

I currently use a AT&T Tilt 2 (aka HTC Touch Pro 2/Rhodium) and I love most everything about it, especially the keyboard, but I am increasingly becoming aware of how limited it is compared to the newer phones on the market that have faster processors, much more RAM, and far superior cameras/camcorders. I'm not much of a techie, but I can understand flashing/tweaking my devices if the instructions are clear enough, so I've been trying to research the new phones on the market on my own to decide what my next device should be... Now, I'm even more confused than I was before!
I've always used Windows Mobile (Siemens SX56, then SX66, then Kaiser, now Rhodium), therefore I have no experience with Android or Windows 7. Android seems like the logical progression, as it's not locked down like W7 and iPhone, but I am hesitant about going over to the unknown and regretting it. My (very un-technical) wish list for a new device is:
New device MUST have a hard, slide-out, landscape keyboard (so, iPhones need not apply! LOL)
Decent camera with flash and HD video (preferred)
Sync well with Microsoft Outlook, as my entire life is in my Contacts, Calendar, Tasks, etc.
Must have GPS (but I believe most devices have GPS anyway) -- I currently use Bing for navigation, as it is free and has voice-guided directions
Must either have large memory capacity or expandable memory (card) capability
I'm not a gamer by any stretch, so I'm not looking for a toy, but to have a device that would actually play decent videos (from YouTube and the like) would definitely be a plus. Also, I find that I don't use my Rhodium much for music, as I'm able to store much more music on my 60GB MP3 player than I would on my device anyway.
I basically want a phone that will contain & manage my life, allow me to easily sync with my computer(s), act as my portable computer, and have a few cool bells/whistles to make my life easier. I've looked at what AT&T has on offer and the only device that I seem to like is the LG Quantum, but I am very hesitant since the prices on Ebay have some down pretty drastically on that one (you can pick one up for a little over $100 now, which can't be a good sign if Rhodiums are still selling for almost the same price) and the new W7 system just doesn't entice me yet. I want to control a lot on my phone, so I feel like I might be taking a step backwards if I went with that device. I'm not opposed to getting an unlocked phone from another carrier, but I want to be sure that I am still able to get the most out of whatever device I buy.
What devices out there would fit my criteria? What have those who also loved their Rhodiums switched to? Is there anything on the horizon for AT&T users that I should wait for?

[Q] HTC Radar or T-Mobile G2x (LG Optimus 2x)?

Hey, guys, and thank you for taking the time to click on my thread!
So, the main issue I'm having is choosing between buying an HTC Radar or a T-Mobile G2x (I have a T-Mobile SIM with 4G data plan, so I need a phone compatible with T-Mobile's HSDPA 900/1700/2100 bands). Generally, the reason I picked these two phones is because of the CURRENT price range I'm looking at ($200-$300). These two phones fit right in there.
I wouldn't be having this problem if it weren't for my original HTC Radar getting stuck in a boot loop and eventually just completely bricking on me (please check this thread for more information if you would like more info on this issue I'm having: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2053262 ), but I am here now, and because my warranty expired with HTC on the phone, and there doesn't seem to be a way to fix this problem, it looks like I'm going to have to buy a new phone.
I've been doing a lot of research, and while looking for phones compatible with T-Mobile's GSM/HSDPA network, and I stumbled upon the G2x. I relatively enjoyed the specs as compared to my Radar, and the fact that it had a dual core processor also piqued my interest. I noticed that it could only officially update to Gingerbread, but I didn't get too concerned with that, since there are a lot of great developers here who have long since made roms for 4.0, 4.1, and 4.2.
I have experience with Android, having used an HD2 with AmeriCAN, Cyanogen, and other rom types, as well as currently using my Archos 101G9 with 4.0. I like the interface and I'm pretty comfortable with it, but when I got my hands on the Radar for the first time, I had fell in love with the WP7.5 OS. It was pretty much everything I wanted in an OS, and I was looking for when 7.8 would be available on it (if it would be). However, having to use my backup Desire HD (which doesn't support T-Mobile's network--learned that the hard way), I started to warm up to using Android a bit more, especially with seeing how large the community here at xda is in regards to it. So... needless to say, I'm a little torn.

Which do you think would be the better buy? Should I end up buying the G2x, which I could find on Amazon, even, for a good price new; Or replace my old Radar with another one, and try to wait for 7.8 or wait for an official release?
