[Q] Voice Search not that accurate - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just picked up a 32gb version and noticed that the Voice Search function is not that accurate. Anyone have same experience? fix?

Voice recognition is horrible for me. Usually I get nothing even close. Often I just get a string of lol lol lol regardless of what I say. It feels like it is mocking me. On the other hand the voice recognition on my dinc is outstanding and never ceases to amaze me. I assume the mic on the Transformer is as bad or worse than the lousy speakers. I've given up on voice recognition on the Transformer. Overall my htc dinc out-performs the transformer as far as delivering a good user experience goes.
I appreciate your post as it is good to know it is not just a problem on my tablet. Anyone else?
Post script- That said, I still love the damn thing

This continues to really bother me as I am using the feature much more often on my phone. Of course it is most useful on the phone while driving, but it works so well on my phone that it would be great to have in my TF. I tried every version of English in the settings. I have made recordings and they sound is fine. I just cannot get any voice recognition. Often i get only one word from a sentence and that is incorrect.
Is anyone else having this problem?

no, just try to speak w/ wide mouth like people in India (try to smile while you speak, it will work, I guess you have something common speak problem)

I don't know what's up with you guys but it works fine for me. Actually it works great. It recognizes almost everything I say and even when I say some really oddball things that I wouldn't expect it to know it does. Really amazing algorithm they're employing on it.
Maybe your mics are defective? Have you guys tested to make sure sound recorder can even playback your voice? I remember a guy was on here a couple of weeks ago and he said the voice recorder didn't play anything back and it turned out the mic was broken.
That or maybe you're not pronouncing words correctly, may have an excessive accent or you're not following proper syntax.

I just tried this for the first time because of this thread...mine worked amazingly well.
I could only get it to get less than 100% when I tried to trip it up with:
Northeastern Pugs of the Himalayas.
It got "Northeaster bugs of the Himalayas" or something...just missed one word.
But things that I'd use for a real search....100% accuracy.

That's how it is on my phone, truly amazing. My phone also has an option for Google to collect voice samples and improve it more. Don't see that on TF.
Since my mic seems to work fine it must be some other problem on my tablet. Maybe if I ropt and flash another rom it will improve. I really don't want to have to rma.

Don't understand that last part but I'll give it a try!

voice recognition
I am having exactly the same problem, it works amazingly well on my phone, but it is worthless on the transformer. Did anyone ever figure out a solution?

BrainZapr Works!

Hi guys!
I just wanted to know what you guys think of the BrainZapr software?
I must say that when I first found it I was a little bit skeptical, but after trying it I can honestly say that it really works! (For me at least!)
I have so far used the "Headache relief, Get to sleep, gentle focus, enhanced creativity and earth resonance"! And I think it works wonders!
So what is your experience about this software/technology if any?
If you still have not tried it, I would strongly suggest you to head over to their site and download a free trial, then let me know what you think!
Oh and no matter what you think, I am not working with them in any way, nor am I paid to say this! I just want to know what your opinions is on this technology!
Thanks!
Well I have to say that for study, I used it for some time now.
Just good things to say: it kept me concentrated as well as got rid of distractions of the environment.
To sleep its good too.
The other ones, I didn't test properly.
Just don't use it too loud because of ear permanent damage!
Cheers.

Sounds great that I am not the only one that think this is working!
Anyone else want to share their experience?
Anyone else?
Please I need your opinions on this!
I've tried the "Silent Sleep" and feels quite working! Haven't tried others module yet... The only thing is that once my phone's backlight's off, the sound is off as well V_V

Google Skymaps Update = awesome!!!

I dont really use the app that much but i noticed that google skymaps was updated recently. upon entering the app and going into settings i noticed under other a sensor setting that has sensor speed and damping. i changed the speed to fast and have left damper as normal and i cant believe it but its SMOOTH the way it should be
dont know if anyone else was aware but just wanted to give a general heads up
This should be in Captivate Themes and Apps, but I downloaded this yesterday too and it does, in fact, kick butt.
I was afraid that because GPS is shoddy on the Captivate, it would not know where you were pointing the phone, but it does a great job! I guess it only needs a general location, then uses the compass/orientation sensors to determine what you're 'looking at'.
Mine seems to be broke
I downloaded it yesterday and tried it today... the display is jittery and jumps around. The prior version was just fine. I wonder if I can go back to it.
I love skymaps, now I don't need my 70 year old mother to tell me what is what.

Skype sounds terrible

Does skype for you guys sound crap as well? I just got my friend a ATT One X and she is P.O ed that skype sounds so bad. Tried it for myself and there really is terrible cracking when calling. Any fixes or such?
I have this issue too, it's more obvious while Skype is ringing when you are trying to make a call.

Yep, sounds like Sh*t. Seems like multi core studdering.
Bump
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA
Yup, same here. Sounds kind of like the artifacts you hear when you turn up a set of crappy speakers up too much - a static/crackling type sound. Seems to be isolated to skype too - sound in my other applications and normal phone calls are fine. I also have a friend with this phone who has the same skype issues.
Kind of surprised there hasn't been more posted about this issue actually. Hopefully it will be fixed with the next skype software update.
It actually crashed on me when i tried a video chat with my mom!
I think the reason is that One X is still not certified with Skype to run smoothly.
The same thing happens with my Xoom running Team EOS' ICS.
Just give it time. Skype will do an update pretty soon
I actually didn't have any issues like this. I video Skyped the first day that I got the phone and the only issue either of us had (me and the person I talked to) was that on her end the video and audio wasn't synced.
More to it, the video looks like **** too, after a while shows pink artifacts, and they grow in size, soon the whole picture become pink...On the other end they see me perfectly fine. Oh and their connection is 10mb/sec both ways...
Also one time the phone started ringing (skype) but nothing showed on the screen, not even in the notification bar. If skype used the same ringtone as the phone I would never guessed what's going on...
Skype as used be one of the buggies/resources hog/bloatware, as it is now, as it will ever be, it's not gonna change I guess. And yet, I'm using it...go figure.

Yep, I've got that problem too! I've tried a couple of different builds of Skype and still the audio is clipping, clicking, crackling all the time. To add salt to the wound, Skype sounds fine on my older SGS2.
Did you find a fix yet?
Thanks!
I can confirm the issue as well.
I would try using Tango.
+1 for suck call quality on skype. Viber runs way much better, its even better than the regular voice call

+1. Skype on HOX sucks.
any fixes?
Any updates/better apk's? sorry to always be a leech on here.

Is there a hack to make google now work when screen is off?

hi, I read that google now ("ok google") only activates when the screen is on. I was wondering if theres a hack or setting somewhere where you can activate it with the screen off? I mostly want this for hands-free use in the car, so I can avoid having to touch the phone while driving (big no no).
also, is there a site somewhere explaining all the features of what you can say/ask google now? or even a link with comparisons between siri and google now, and what google now cant do that siri does? I ask this cuz ill be coming from iPhone.
thanks.
I think that would really drain the battery - if possible!
However, here is a collection on some of the commands you can ask google now:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1961636
I'm really surprised how great it works! And i live in Denmark, where i can't even take full use of everything
samsung has had this with s-voice. and i think motorola enabled google now to do this on the motox but i'm not sure. yes it drains battery, but how much? depends on the cpu and driver and the software involved..... i don't have my nexus yet so i can't say "how" to do this but i would expect it to be an eventual custom feature if not a future update if it's not already in a setting somewhere.

Everything I've read has claimed that the Nexus 5 should handle this as well as MotoX since it has the Snapdragon 800. Have we ever gotten an official answer on why this won't work?

hey thanks for the link. battery drain wouldn't be too much of an issue, as usually I would just use it while the device is being charged in my car, but it would be nice to use sometimes without as well, and while leaving the screen on would be nice, a slow charging car charger, is going to charge faster with the screen off, as that's usually the most power hungry lol. so it would be nice to have the voice activation at will while using.
If some of the launcher/search code was open source, I'd imagine this would be quite easy to do.
Pretty sure I read somewhere that the 'always listening' (for "OK Google" command) requires some hardware functionality. So no, it would not be possible like it is on the Moto X.

i'd imagine you could port parts of the moto x rom into the nexus. things like this have been done before. just have to find all the dependancies.

I mean, if you had access to the facilities used by the n5 launcher source, you could likely utilize them when screen is off via software pretty easily.

Yes. But from what I understand the snapdragon 800 has that hardware built in.

Video is about 1/2 way down on the right. Processor is capable.
Lets see if I can't clear things up. If you want your phone to be always listening, you need hardware support for it unless you want your phone to die in a matter of hours. If you are okay with this , check out this app. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.RSen.OpenMic.Pheonix It also lets you configure things like only when charging or just when the screen is on to save some battery, and its actually a very nice app overall. Worth checking out.
The Moto x has a special custom chip set that allows for this always listening. Any attempt to port that feature from the Moto x would fail, as the Nexus 5 doesn't have the same chip set. The nexus 5 however, does have hardware that allows for always listening, its part of the Snapdragon 800 SOC that powers this phone, along with the Note 3 and LG G2.
But getting the feature to actually work on our phones, even with the hardware, is by no means an easy task. Read the comments on this post if you want to get an idea for what this entails. https://plus.google.com/112424215551484520138/posts/AznwFxbBapJ
So is it possible? Yes. But it is not something that is gonna be a quick easy port of small modification of an existing app, it would take some real serious work form (maybe a team even of) good Dev's to make this function.
Sorry if its not the news you wanted to hear.
Well now it's been more than a year since this thread is dead but i bought my N5 recently and i wonder is there any progress in this matter will it be possible ? (G+ comments on link provided by above like shows it may be possible...as SD800 has privilege for it but at time of this thread it was only available to OMEs so it made public yet ? ) . did any dev tried to dig into this matter ?

If you're plugged in/wireless charging Google Now Voice commands work with the screen off.
Settings>Language & Input > Voice Input> Enhanced Google services> "OK Google" Detection>From any screen> enabled
"responds to your voice. Works when the screen is on or the device is charging."
make sure the next option "personal results" is also enabled if you want Google Now to be able to do anything
Try this app, Open Mic+. It'll do the job.

Horrible call quality

Hey all,
Everything was fine and dandy with calls being loud and clear, until about a few days ago.
One day the call quality from my side just randomly went from great to terrible.
I can hear the other side just fine, but from my side its really low-volume and barely hearable.
Things I've tried:
-Flashing different radios (25R,30O,33R,Find7, radio from the latest nightlies)
-Flashing different ROMs and kernels
-Switching network modes (LTE, 3g, 2g)
-Combinations of the above
If anyone has experience dealing with issues like this/knows anything to improve the call volume from my side, any help would be very much appreciated.

Yup, the speakerphone works great but its inconvenient.
Gutted to have such a basic function impaired.
Hopefully this issue will be fixed by the next OTA, which should be next week around Monday.
Same here. My call quality is really bad. When I am speaking on the phone I'm typically running around desperately trying to find a quieter place, with the phone held up to my left ear and a finger plugged right into my other ear, hunched over like Quasimodo in a desperate attempt to understand 50% of what the other person is saying.
I learned one thing from the OPO. You actually do get exactly what you pay for. Lesson learned. :good:
win
So, after updating to the latest version of vanir and re-flashing the 33R radio, my in-call volume magically got back to normal.
I wish everyone affected best of luck and patience :fingers-crossed:
OPO hype much more than the phone deserves. Not going to last long

@Kiahnlliya @jrior001 @latenightchameleon My in call audio volume from the earpiece is really very low & muffled. I think I am audible on the other end, coz haven't got any complaints from people talking to me. I am on stock 33R unrooted. This is really annoying & really hope I can get rid of this issue with a firmware upgrade.

You should try the latest cm nightlies, they've pushed a bunch of improvements to audio and volumes.
It's a very simple fix if rooted. You need to edit a value in mixer_paths.xml. Some custom ROMs increase the value.

No you'll need root or custom recovery to flash the zip unfortunately. Otherwise you will need to wait for your ROM to be updated. CM have merged this in their commits so hopefully if your on stock CM11S you'll see this in the next update.
thanks alot mate for the fix.
