Today, I went to INKINO's shop at Tottenham Court Road, where thay have got a Touch Cruise available for testing. Fell in love on first sight. Design, size, weight and not to mention the gorgeous flushed screen and smooooooth touch flo experience. Only thing I didn't like was the silver faceplate at the bottom where buttons are. Screen surrounding is glossy, more as greyish but depends on light, however thr bottom is definitely silver which looks off. On contrary to the pics on web, even the scroll wheel is silver not black as shown on expansys. I hop this was pre-production sample model and actual will be black and better etched. Otherwise, functionality is great, very fast and even video playback was not as bad as some people say it is. Album is coooool.
Overall, worth replacing Kaiser with Touch Cruise means sacrificing keyboard for less weight and style
However, today's adventure was overshadowed when I cam home and checked on the internet that expected delivery now on expansys is 9th Feb...
So I guess we will be just talking about TC and looking online for a while as owning one in UK is a bit impossible in near future.
Sorry man, I'm so ticked off to say anything.
Gutted.
cool! will go and have a look tomorrow. did they know when they'd be expecting their first shipment?
I ordered in the U.S,(pre-order)and their saying anytime from end of Jan on thru Feb, depending on which shipment your in line for. Prioritized ya know. Gotta just try and forget about it. It'll happen when it happens.
I feel for you guys
Being one of the lucky few who got his device in December (but was waiting for months before that as well ) I can say it's worth the wait.
Still crap that you guys have to wait to long. Let's hope this is the last time everybody has to wait for the damned thing!
ebay is your friend.
i found one for 630 shipped.
As per yesterday, at the shop itself they were saying expected 18th Jan or next Tuesday i.e,. 22nd. But by then expansys hadn't changed there dates. Not sure if INKINO gets it from the same supplier as expansys then they would have changed their dates as well.....
Expansys always do this, keep people on a waiting game. I had to go through the same crap with the when I wanted to buy the Dell Axim, they kept moving the dates further and further until it became obvious they didn't know themselves and just wanted to keep us attached to them.
About the scrollwheel color: it's a bit darker grey, but definitely not black (in the final non test-version). Sorry
I went in yesterday. It's very low key, the Touch Cruise was just lying on the counter when I went in there. The staff behind the counter were pretty friendly and talkative. I learned some stuff that I'll post in the UK Availability thread in a minute.
Regarding the device, it was much as I expected, but then I'd done so much research and had an Artemis before so I didn't expect many surprises. I suppose the only things to mention are:
The Neutral/Bad
1) I was hoping to be won over by the styling when I saw it in real life but I wasn't. That doesn't mean that I hate it either, it wasn't any worse than I was hoping, it just wasn't any better either. Then again, I suspect this is a pre-release unit and might not be 100% representative of the actual manufactured unit so who knows.
2) It really did pick up fingerprints on the screen very badly. Then again, it didn't have a screen protector on it so that might help. I don't think there's really much HTC or anyone can do about this, if your going to be dragging your fingers across a transparent smooth surface then it will get grubby.
The Good
1) From the reviews, and playing with a TouchCube clone on my Artemis in the past, I'd pretty much decided to disable the TouchCube and TouchFlo scrolling when I got the device. After playing with the real HTC implementation on the TC I liked it and now plan to leave it on, especially now that this forum has exposed the registry settings to customise the cube.
2) I thought I might miss the trackball from the Artemis (I liked it) but after playing with the Dpad, once I got my brain to remember that it is now a conventional clickable Dpad as well as a scroll wheel, I really liked it and think I will find it more useful than the old Artemis trackball.
Finally, some general notes about Inkino (the shop):
1) If anyone goes there then don't be confused (I was). The address of 48 Tottenham Court Road that they have on their web site is correct but, for some reason, the sign outside the shop actually says "Sunrise Digital" (their other shop on Great Russell Street does have an Inkino sign but that's not where the TC is).
2) If anyone is ever in a hurry for accessories then they sell Brando screen protectors (but not for the TC yet) and also some other accessories, e.g. the official HTC 3.5mm headphone adaptor.
Their pricing isn't really competitive with the cheapest on the internet but if you're in London and willing to spend a slight premium for the "I want it now" factor then it looks a decent place to get it. They didn't come across as obnoxious and high pressure as some of the TCR places and actually seemed pretty enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the products.

Great, I was waiting, for something like this before my final decision.
Thanks mate
Myself and my mate Mark [Dark Fire] we're heading down there tomorrow probably. He got his touch 128 rom there on its first day i think. We just want to go look at the cruise lol.. not buy, neither of has enough money i think. Did you think the shop was kindof dingy?, i think i've been ther, because i recall in june only seeing one shop with an athena, and that was sitting on top of the desk, and it may well have been inkino [I was looking all down TCR for TV's.

Well, I just returned my G-tablet to Staples.
The bottom line is that the hardware is overall pretty good - with one major exception: the screen. I'm used to TN screens with bad viewing angles (both my desktop and laptop have TN displays) but this is just ridiculous. In landscape mode it's basically unreadable if you have it sitting flat on a table. In portrait mode there's noticeable color quality problems if you move your head from side to side. Also, the screen has poor contrast in general, even if you look at it straight on.
This kind of display is OK on a $300 netbook or a cheap budget tablet, but it's not OK on a $400 tablet. The G-Tablet has a lot of positives (fast CPU, USB host, etc.) but it's just not nearly as usable as an IPS device (like the iPad) because you're forced to look at it head on.
I worry that devices like this will sour people on Android tablets in general. Between the bad screen and the crappy stock firmware I would not be surprised if there are a lot of returns.
If you are considering buying a G-Tablet you really need to try one out in person. Some users may be fine with the screen, but I think for many people it will effectively kill the usability of the device.
I don't think this will peeve Joe Consumer off all that much, although I agree with you myself. The screen angles are probably the worse issue with this thing, from a hardware perspective.
I think Joe Consumer is going to be more peeved at the crappy UI and lack of features, and I hope that they get a firmware update out ASAP. They need this NOW, not even a week from now -- Staples has them in and they will probably start selling over the weekend.

Hope some big issues are fixed, since a market & Flash update only covers some of the issues. Seems this "update" should have been out of box. Their CS folks will be a little busy in the coming weeks. So will Sears, Kmart and Staples, for returns if not a more stable device for non modders.
I like my G a LOT, but this device is as anti-consumer friendly for the average "out of box- not tech" consumer as you can get.
I have decided on this being my tablet of choice. Price and performance ratio is HUGE- even at $400. Sill will test the Archos 101 though.

+1. I've been showing mine off a little, hoping to inspire some anti-apple sentiment, but I've also been warning people that this one isn't for the faint of heart. Even considered the $399 iPad at TJ Max for the wife.
For those of us that have been around from day 1...be prepared for a lot of GT bashing next week.
yea black friday add running in Staples adds even says download from app store. if the update isn't done right on boot. People will be pretty angry with no app store and all the other issues.
I'm banking on getting one refurb'd the weekdays after BF.. that and my 101 should be here Monday
From the few reports I've read from users on the Archos forum, the 101 has similar issues with their screen. I'm interested to hear what a gtablet owner says about the 101.
Yea. I'll report how i feel about the screen when I get the 101 monday or Tuesday. I did 2 day air Thursday morning. Shipped Friday. Should be here soon
Returned mine for the very same reason a week ago. Notion ink has my name written all over it. I am positive however that all the work you guys are putting into the GTab will migrate over into similar hardware tabs like the Notion ink Adam
Archos 101 appears to have the same display as the Gtablet and the Notion Ink is still in "marketing conceptual stages". Notion Ink mass shipments are still months away.
After playing King of Fighters 2003 and Metal Slug 5 at 60fps with perfect sound- I am keeping this puppy
Those games (most bigger Neo Geo and CPS2 games) will not play on the Archos 101 due to 256mb ram. They play slow on the Droid X (same chipset as 101).
The Gtablet is kind of like the A10 Warthog of tablets
Hey guys,
I work for staples in NJ, and just got some bleak news regarding the future of the G Tablet. We were just sent a notice by our warehouse/corperate that read the following:
Due to manufacturer defect, all quantities of the Viewsonic G Tablet are to be pulled from store stock and returned via RTV.
Sounds like one less place for people to pick these up.
On the bright side (those of you that need these for christmas), Amazon.com has the tablet for the MSRP ($399.99)... PLUS free super saver shipping!!
I'll keep you guys posted if we hear anymore. Our store only sold one, and it was to myself!! LOL
That's sad. I got one for my Dad, who's in his 70's and has never touched a computer. All his grandkids are on Facebook which works perfectly AFAIK, so this device is a dream for him.
I added Getjar, and installed Angry Birds, Flash, Opera, Amazon app, Amazon MP3 and IMDB. I doubt he'll use much more than that. He's not interested in staring at a screen all day.
At power up it crashed on everything, even the patch. But after rebooting, it patched itself and has been rock solid ever since. I was going to flash it with a ROM if required, but there is no need. It really is perfect for him (and will only get better with system updates). A good web browser that does Facebook and Email too.
People complain about the speed, but it seems to be at least as fast as my Galaxy S or Nexus One.
If I'd bought it for myself, I'd have it doing backflips by now. But for my Dad, it's already going to be alot for him to obsorb as-is.
What is the defect?
If a manufacturers defect and originated by VS information, the Gtablet could become very scarce.
There are several out of box issues that warrant this- even ours is still "broken" due to the accelerometer, bluetooth and other issues known already.
If not initiated by VS, Staples then are already pushing product back to Viewsonic. Though not unexpected at all, this is bad and no way to spin it.
added:
Question is how long before VS themselves may consider pulling the plug? If the Gtablet CS line goes away, THAT will give us the answer. Seems VS would be better served giving our XDA Three Amigos the source and pay THEM to release a package. Word.
The defect could firmware based (like what happened to the Pandigital Novel). Let's hope that's all it is.
I suspect the "defect" just refers to the fact that they observed a very high return rate, *****ed to Viewsonic about it, Viewsonic shrugged their shoulders and said they're working on it, so Staples pulled the product.
Specifically, the lack of Flash which was advertised, the lagginess and tendency to crash of the product out of the box could both be considered defects in this context. I mean, honestly, if you have to install third party ROMs to make a product useful, yeah, it is basically defective.
Still, I'd like to see Viewsonic and Tap N Tap get their act together, release source code, update their shipping drivers and make things work better out of the box. It would be good for the longevity and availability of updates of our G Tablets.
Hope to hear more from VS on this. Indeed hope its nothing more than crap firmware which drove high rates of returns to Staples and prompted them to shove it all back on VS. If that is the case then maybe Staples actually helped our cause. VS is going to definitely take notice of issues if one of their major distributors balks.
VS had what could have been the budget iPad killer this holiday season. They screwed it all up by using the low budget LCD and pushing it out the door with some broken firmware. Imagine how different the reviews and word of mouth would have been if only this thing had a slightly better display and no half baked TnT. Instead of cleaning up, they are left to mop up a half hearted attempt at a product release.
When did Amazon start selling them? I don't recall it being available from Amazon before - actually Amazon and not an affiliate.

Ya, a few FC's here and there and some quirks, but what computer doesnt have quirks...
In 30 days with the help of the amazing folks on this forum, the G tab will be rock solid...
I did a "throwdown" with a friend with an iPad and the G tab smoked him in the end... Yes, iPad a little more refined and stable, but for getting down and dirty the Gtab was clearly on top...
90% of the iPad apps are crap...
Sears and several others on line still have the Gtab for sale...

New forum for this brand-spanking-new device? Why don't we introduce ourselves and start off the t700 community the right way?
Ill go first,
I've been a fairly active member of the Epic 4G Touch community here on XDA. I'm a rising senior at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania, and I've been waiting for a solid android tablet to replace my first generation iPad as my note-taking, homework-on-the-go, etc device. Planning on getting my t700 when it's released in a couple weeks (hopefully) and getting down with some custom ROMs!
Ok
I was really active in the HTC Fuze forum up until I got a iphone 4. I used to have a ipad for note taking and etc, but I always felt like it lacked something. Since the first generation ipad is now officially "obsolete" and wont be receiving any new updates or apps, I have decided to give android a go this time around.
Anyways I got to demo a TF300 today at Office Depot and I have to say I am fairly confident I will be happy with the Infinity. Assuming the higher pixel density does not impact the performance much.
I joined XDA last march when I got my Motorola Atrix, but I didnt really become an active member here until I got my Nook Color last June and loaded CM7 on it. A few months later the HP Touchpad firesale hit, resulting in me selling the Color for it. In retrospect getting the TP was a mistake, since it ruined 7" tablets for me (and thus now the Nexus 7) and started having some hardware issues that resulted in an on-going fight with HP's repair services. That's a long story though, and not one for here.
What is relevant is, to make up for the disaster that was the Touchpad I decided to get a TF300. Right as I was about to buy it though, rumors started flying around on the TF700 launching late June which made me decide to hold off. When the actual launch date and pricing were announced, I was somewhat caught off guard since it was cheaper than I expected.
As such, I'll be picking up a 32GB model with a dock (which I thought I wouldn't be able to afford given rumored pricing), running it rooted stock for about a month for warranty purposes and then loading it with CM9 and a Linux chroot. It'll replace my Touchpad as a light and portable way to take notes during classes as well as general couch surfing and lightweight productivity like writing papers, code, email etc.

Looks like we're both victims of ancient iPads lol
I joined XDA after getting an HTC Touch HD (Windows Mobile), then an HTC Desire HD (Android).
I started wanting a tablet about a year ago, but no Android model really seduced me, and anything by apple is a big NO. I got interested in the first Transformer and in the Prime, but the issues encountered by their users told me to wait.
Since the Infinity was announced, I have decided it would be the tablet to have.
I have been leeching on XDA for a pretty while, but became a more or less active member January last year when my LG O2x arrived. It was replaced by my tried-and-true SGS2 about half a year later (and donated to my then-fiancée -- I have flashed pretty much every custom ROM that came out, and have settled on SLIM for now).
I was looking for a tablet that could entertain me on my rather long commute to work (work shift-based in a hospital, with somewhere between 4.5 and 6 hours of (mostly train-based) commute per shift) -- before I mostly read on my e-reader; now, in addition, I browse the web and watch documentaries (or the incidental movie).
I got the TF700 before the actual release date (retail) and I am very happy with it. I must say that I am curious if the performance boost with a custom ROM will becomparable to that which I've seen on my SGS2. If so, then let me first brace myself, for it probably will knock my socks off.
Hi tf700 enthusiasts! I just pre-ordered my infinity from j&r and almost have gone completely insane with waiting months for the official release in USA.
I have never had a Tablet, and I am a bit nervous of any large monetary purchases. I was hoping to write my first post here with the knowledge that you guys here would provide great opinions, information, and support!
Looking forward to being a part of XDA!

Hi smoshua, welcome to XDA! If you can cope with the occasional irate developer and intellectually blunt users, you'll be fine in here. I hope you haven't been diappointed already ('"you were hoping to write you first post... you guys would provide ... information and support"), hahaha!
As far as the price goes: yes, the TF700 is quite an expensive device, but you should also remember you are buying the best-specced Android tablet today. No better way to increase e-peen length that that.
Long-time Android user, mostly Samsung thus far, this will be my first tablet.
I became involved here on XDA when I bought my Droid Bionic back in September. Decided I wanted this tablet because it's a beast...and I need something to take to class and write notes on (the dismal battery life on my laptop makes that difficult...it's too powerful for it's own good ). I also really want something light to carry around as a mostly laptop replacement since this thing gets pretty heavy carrying around...I'll keep it for more power hungry tasks and long writing sessions.
Hey all!
I´ve been using Android on both phone and tablet since August ´10 with the htc desire (currently running miui) and August ´11 with the tf101 (running Revolver). I´m atm selling my tf101 on ebay and bought my tf700 last week.
To be honest i´m a bit disappointed in the overall performance of the tf700 which feels almost identical of the tf101´s (which is a bit laggy sometimes) but maybe that will go away.
What would excite me to no end would be Ubuntu 12.04 or 12.10 running on the tf700.
I owned a Transformer Prime and ended up selling it on Ebay, but kept the keyboard with the intent of reusing it with the TF700.
My impressions so far with the TF700 are positive. GPS was important to me and I am pleasantly surprised by how much it has been improved. The strip at the top/back of the tablet looks well implemented and does not detract from the beautiful appearance of the device.
My only concerns are the I/O (slow copying of files into and out of the unit) and the jerkiness in Chrome makes it almost unusable.. probably just a setting or tweak somewhere.
Overall I am very pleased and not regretting the purchase like I did with the Prime.
If we get Jelly Bean things can only get better. :good:

Hi All,
I have been a huge fan of tablet. In fact, I started using my very first tablet which was PC by HP like 7-8 years ago. Then bought ultraportable PC Tablet. When xoom came out I jumped on it. Then I switched to the Samsung Galaxy 10.1. Then went to iPad2. Got galaxy 10.1 back for awhile (this time with 4G). In an anticipation of Transformer Infinity I ended up selling my Galaxy 10.1. I believe I have done fair share of research and personal experience of tablet. I definitely enjoy Android Tablet over iOS due to its flexibility, and believe or not some apps are better on android (at least for what I do). Samsung was just too slow in terms of updating their OS, which was one of a big negative for me. Plus the build quality of the tablet was poor. Without any major physical damage I can think of, the plastic around the port broke off. So I was not going to go with Samsung again. Having seen phenomenal speedy update of ASUS, I was going to go with Infinity except.... IO issue seems a major one. So I will hold off and see if ASUS will fix this. But in the mean time, I will keep checking this forum as otherwise I wouldn't even have known such issue existed.
Leavin iPad2
Hi guys. Just like ya'll I'm standin around the beach waitin 4the launch.
Really just started messin with my 3D late April and the downgrade to get root and all that. Did the Newt rom and the ics and sense 4 were the hoot. I've gone back to stock waitin4 the official ics upgrade. Kinda fun playin around the innards of the 3D, if not abit like paintin by numbers, lol
Tablet wise I picked up the iPad2 when it came out. That was slightly before real android tablet action. I like the iPad2 but not the OS - I really feel at home with Android. I just put my iPad2(with my Apple goodies) and my AR Drone up on ebay. Figgure that'll cover most the cost of the 700 the way those iPad's hold resale value.
Bye bye Apple
Just like ya'll I'm standin around the beach waitin 4the launch

Hi KilgerG,
when I read your text I had to laugh and read it loud to to my wife ;-) had the htd touch pro 2 (Windows Mobile), now have also the htc desire hd... For also a decent time, I cant wait to finally get a tablet. Apple was a no-Go, and not good Android tablets. Then the transformers came, but i read about their problmes. So no-GO. And the Infitnity... I ordered one week ago one and i cant wait ;-)
I just found this forum... hopefully I wont find anything here, that makes me thinking about buying the device really.
So I'm here as well.
My story is as follows
I started with a Nexus One because I was fascinated with the idea that you could change your OS on a phone. I didn't know at that time that it was already possible. I had no idea what an impact it would've on my life. But as you can imagine I got ORD quite fast.
When I owned the N1 I was a quite passive member and read a lot and just tried to learn all that stuff.
Then I bought the Nexus S and began to be a bit more active.
After the NS I bought the Galaxy S II which was my big mistake. I hate Touchwiz. CM was available though but it was always a bit buggy. So I ditched the SGSII as soon as the Galaxy Nexus came out.
With the Galaxy Nexus I started to become quite active. I'm currently a beta tester for the SLIM ICS/ Bean ROM.
And you'll see me from time to time in the CM threads because I'm really a big fan of their work.
I owned the TF101G before the TF700T. I liked it quite a bit but I came late to the game so that it was quite outdated when I bought it.
The biggest issue for me though was the low resolution. Use to the high resolution display on my GNEX it was really a pain to read on it.
That's actually the main reason why I bought the Infinity.
ATM I own just the tablet in gold but as soon as the dock is available I'll buy that too.
I'll use it mostly for reading, surfing, watching films on the go and writing my blog.

Same for me. I read through all the Prime desasters and luckily cancled my preorder before it was shipped.
Now I hope the Infinity has those things bugged out.
Can't wait till the grey version pad only is released here in Germany.
It is said to be next week.
Fingers crossed!
i wanna throw some links out and help discuss how fast tech is moving. Asus is taking the initiative to make tablets into ultra books. and microsoft is also starting in that direction.

with windows 8 on the horizon and these tablets running the full OS what do you guys recommend me doing ? i wanted to sell my laptop since i have a gaming computer and get something portable to take to class and stuff. use it to stream media and what have you. for 499 its releasing soon i want to get it buy a 32 gig sd card for the dock and be set !. super ips + is really important and the new hybrid tablets and docks are releasing with like 1300 by whatever resolution >_<
i dont want to get something that gets outdated fast but i feel like we are buying something experimental and this fall the real gadgets come out. even if i get it now will the resale value be enough to cover my loss and upgrade to tablets with i5 processors and same weight / cool design ?
I've been longing for a transformer mini (7" tab, full size dock) for some time. I thought the 370t might be the ticket, but instead of gaining a keyboard dock, it lost some extras and became the nexus 7. To add insult to injury, Asus came out after and told pocketlint there would be no transformer mini, apparently they couldn't imagine having a larger dock than tab, even though the empty bezel space would allow for generous front-facing speakers. I'll never understand why tabs direct sound away from the user when they're intended for multimedia.
Anyway, high res is a must (I'm a reader -- fuzzy text gets uncomfortable in long reading sessions), and netbook replacement is a must, and really only the infinity fits the bill. I'm looking forward to seeing just how well the screen performs outdoors. I'd prefer an efficient reflective solution like pixel qi or mirasol, but those can't seem to go primetime, so why not try and outshine the sun w. super ips+?
I'm a little disappointed there's no BT4, and wonder if the single GB of ram will be the first bottleneck to emerge as the device ages. I'm buying for the long haul. By the time I retire my infinity, the tablet category will no longer exist. We'll all have tegra X implanted directly into our brains and wired to our visual cortex.
But otherwise, I'm pretty excited. I came to XDA for XDAndroid on my winmo Touch Pro2. The transformer is the first android series with a better keyboard than that
Wondering how the Surface is doing for sales at BB and Staples now. I normally wouldn't care as I love my Surface but we all need it to be successful if we want to see some good app development in the Store and see growth in quality apps, which is currently lacking in the store.
I will tell you that over the weekend I was at South Coast Plaza mall in Southern California and the Microsoft Store there, which is big , was pretty busy (Maybe not Apple busy, but pretty good traffic).
Anybody have any info from BB or Staples personnel in the know or any other source?
I believe it is online only availability.
Stores have stock now. Was in a Best buy today. Surface was the 1st thing you see walking in the door.

I have read elsewhere that it has been spotted and purchased in Staples and Best Buy. I don't imagine a huge impact on RT sales until the Pro is out in the wild and attracting a lot more attention and awareness for the Surface brand.
Also, some of those cases where it is set up at best buy it has been said that they are not setting it up with the keyboard cover which IMO would draw much more attention.
We just got our Surface display set up at Staples, and a few people checked it out. But before we ever had them in store people kept coming in looking for the tablet with the "click" commercial, so i'd say the interest will be there and I love what the Surface does, so ill be glad to show it customers.

John Lewis now have them in physical stores in the UK.
Microsot surface rt hidden at best buy
I visited a BestBuy in Gainesville, Florida, with my son. I wanted to see the Surface RT even though I own one. I could not see one. Then I spotted it with the black cover among other portable products. The Surface RT is not displayed at any specific promotional spot as the other other products are. So, even though, BestBuy carries it, I do not think people will notice it.
I hope Microsoft will address the issue.
went into Staples on Sunday (Dec 16) after I found out online that they had them in the store on Saturday. Big sign at entrance advertising the Surface. When I purchased the 64Gb version of it I found out that I was the first person in this Store who bought one. The folks at Staples wanted me to report back to them whether I liked it. I told them I will surely like it (played with it for some time at a MS Store in Boston). They told me that they only found out Wednesday that they will have them in the Store on Saturday and thought it seemed rushed by MS.
anyway, glad I was able to buy it at a local store (next MS store is 1.5hs from here).
place of Staples: Beavercreek, Ohio (Dayton area).
I just checked at the local Best Buy. It was just tossed in with the other tablets, and they didn't have the full selection of keyboards (nor did they have a keyboard out with it).
Poor product placement? Lmao...I think people who want it, know about it and will get it. Other random people, most likely will get an ipad. Lol. I honestly thought they would have a MS rep in every major best buy location to hype it up. Or , even a special station where multiple Surfaces are setup allowing people to play with them...kind of like apple has its booth in every store. Hopefully MS will do good on sales, even with poor product placment because it is a very important and effective marketing strategy.
I need to go check out my local store. I was sure I wanted the Pro but after realizing that the RT does a lot more than i thought i decided i would get that. Then after reading up some more im not sure if I am up for a windows 8 tablet anymore, just because i am more familiar with android. So i went from being 100% to not knowing what tablet I want. They get old fast... :/

Coming from Android as well, I find the Surface Rt way more customizable out of the box via registry tweaks and such. Something only possible via rooting android. I also find it much more stable than ICS (I cant comment on JB as I have not played with much on my wifes Nexus 7 since I got my Surface now.
At the Best Buy I visited (in KY), it was basically in the back where the cheap ipad covers were. The Kindle, ipad, android, and every other tablet got much better placement and the sales people weren't talking about them and knew almost nothing about them.
I think this whole plan was put together quickly and without any real prep.
I work at a staples in Oklahoma. All our documentation was about how big a win it would he for us to be the first retailer to have it on the shelf. The only spot we had open for the surface was the end cap with the nexus so they left all the nexus display stuff and accessories up for the first 3 days, but had the Surface model and tags in front... ugh. I guess technically we did have it first. Lol. They didn't work out the deal till like Wednesday of last week and we had stock by Thursday so in the corporate world that's crazy ass fast.
We sold 3 to one business guy with a startup that needed internet explorer and office and that's it. Other wise I've sold 2 to my personal friends that I told to wait and not buy online till they can come in to my store to buy it. Ha. Also, if you decide to take funny pictures of your face and perhaps other body parts, the photo app love tile will keep scrolling the pics even after you delete them... just a heads up. Lol

Hopefully MS will follow up and get proper displays for Staples and Best buy as it really is a great product (I have had one since launch and have done some awesome tweaks on mine (full flash, no lock screen, starts up when opened, networked, etc). Hardwarewise it is stable, and the OS is getting better -It just needs the developer community to get behind it, and that is only going to happen if they see users($$$).
After my good experience at the local Staples here in Dayton, Ohio I also went to BestBuy today. What a let-down. I couldn't find anything about the Surface. The only special place I found was the iMac stand that is placed pretty much in your face when you walk into the store. When I asked for the Surface a guy in the laptop section told me that "oddly enough, it's placed in the mobile section". Okay, when I walked over to the mobile section I found two or three tablets with Win8 (Asus Avivo, Samsung), but there was no Surface. When I asked again the BB guy told me that they are right there, pointing to the laptops I just looked at. Doh! I guess anything Windows 8 goes by Surface at BB at least in this store.
On the other hand I am not really surprised.....
Yeah the Surface at our staples is set up on and end cap, which isnt a terrible spot, but it doesn't quite jump out at you, and the end caps beside it are the Lenovo Twist and the new Samsung 23" All-in-one desktop, so its not terrible placement.

Hey guys me again
I said that I wasn't sure about whether I wanted the Surface anymore after seeing all the android tabs and what not (because I have a lot of experience with the android OS.) I love android, I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 currently, and I was thinking of buying an android tablet so everything would be synced and what not. After thinking about it some more, and going to my local Best Buy, to play with the Surface, I realized that I definitely wanted it over anything else. I realized that I want something new, and all android has to offer are the same things I can already do with my phone, just a little bigger. I'm definitely going to go purchase this tablet in the next few days.
As far as product placement, my local Best Buy did an excellent job of actual physical placement. It is right in front of you when you walk in the store. I, somehow, still missed it and had to ask an employee to point me in the right direction. They need a banner or some sort of sign. LOL. They need to hire me as a manager, I'm sure I can put my BA Business and MSIS degree to good use
I was worried about the screen resolution, but in person, it is everything and more. I am not that picky about resolution, as long as everything looks good, and everything looks amazing on the tablet. Who cares if it doesn't have the crazy high resolutions, because it is perfect for what it is.
Also, played with the type cover because that is the only cover they had out at my local Best Buy. I couldn't test the touch cover, but the type cover is amazing. I played around with office, and I literally fell in love with the little device. I must get it. I think if everyone would stop being so bias and give it a chance, they will fall in love with it. I am an android fan, but I am giving this tablet a chance. Plus, the android tablet I bought last year, I ended up returning because all it was to me is an overgrown phone. Every time I wanted to do something I couldn't decide whether to do it on my android phone or my android tablet. LOL! So I just returned it to avoid the headache altogether.
Anyhow, I don't think the stores are doing too hot with sales. I didn't even see anyone else playing with the tablet, maybe because I was hogging the only one they had out, but who knows. Sucks because I really want it to do well.

Waiting on eye glasses repair...
Costco: guy asks "where is the old windows ?"
Lady asks "are there any windows seven laptops left?"
mom+kids "we'll just go get an ipad" (kids cheering, after trying to use the w8 demo unit for a few minutes)
Bestbuy:
Lady "where are the new ipads?"
Dude "this thing has awesome specs! Do you know how to put real windows on it?" (To his buddy)
Salesguy, "ya, I don't know about the surface thing. Doesn't sell. Can't believe they didn't have the pro ready for christmas."
All folks who might have considered a surface, maybe. Its not getting any serious attention from what I've seen.
I bought one from my local Best Buy, they just had it out with the other tablets, had the $499 32Gb, $599 32Gb with cover (One I got) and the $699 64Gb with cover.
I think Microsoft could really benefit for a better advertising campaign, also they should ship specific display models to stores that have a looping display on them. A black square with a black screen doesn't make one want to pick it up.
It's a nice device, build quality is awesome, OS is buggy though. Not sure if I'll keep it or not (have a month thanks to longer holiday return policy) or maybe get something like the 13" Lenovo yoga.
I still haven't gotten the white list hack to work, unless that was fixed not to in the latest update.
I still don't really get the hype or people waiting for the Pro, it's just a tablet computer, maybe it will be nicer in quality, buy really you can buy that now, the surface is great because of the battery life, size and for the most part a full OS, the pro looses most of that.
I do have to say I own a iPad mini and love the thing for size and weight but for the most part it's a gamming device, even my old full size ipad was just that also.
One of my first wishes for the surface is 4 rows of tiles instead of three, my start screen is getting kind of long!

I also wish there were 4 tiles, and I also want the ability to group apps into folders on the start screen - I have over 100 apps installed and its a bit tough to manuevur, even with shrinking the size of the start screen shortcut.
