Droid x...steal! - Captivate General

It does have a bad esn,but the steal part doesent mean its stolen lol. My buddy had it replaced and since it was his third one (he didnt like it so he kept getting replacements so eventually he could get a different model) they sent him the droid 2. And he wont call and say he found it so they wont release the esn. Its reported lost or stolen by the insurance, not him so its not hot or anything. anyways,to my point about where the steal kicks in
I want to trade it for a straight talk nokia e71 so i can use straight talk on my cappy. Im on the verge of moving to a different device because i cant use 3g with simple mobile so i dont pay for internet. and lets face it,a android without internet just plain blows big ones. I really am desperate so thats why im willing to trade. The droid x is in mint condition by the way
EDIT: zelendel i just thought about posting thus in the wrong section, feel free to move. Sorry about that

so in order for the strait talk thing to work, the person must KEEP the phone they pulled the sim out of or risk having there sim deactivated and loose there phone number. the only way to get strait talk reliable on your cappy is to shell out the 260 ( tax included) and buy the phone and the plan from walmart.

Craigslist phone...

Last week my wife broke her Evo. I decided to go on craigslist (I've bought a few phones this way w/ no issues) and get her a decent used phone to get by until we can upgrade. Found an Epic for a good price, got it home, called sprint to activate and they're telling me its active on another account with a high outstanding balance. There's nothing they can do. The d-bag I got it from won't answer my texts. What else can I do with this phone? Thanks

Maybe it's me but, I always ask for the ESN to check status before buying a used phone. I once took a used phone and called Verizon to check it while standing there with the person I was buying it off of (he was not looking happy after about 5 min on hold).
You've got a phone that has a "bad ESN" your pretty much done unless the user who had it clears it up. Unless you want to use it as a Wi-FI browsing device or something, there is not much you can do, sorry.
File a police report maybe ? They did sell you a device that that claimed working that was not (they wont do much but, it will be on file). Also, if you text him, try to call him from a different number than the one you texted him from (he might pick up thinking it was someone else).
Good luck, sorry about the news, Lesson learned, always check ESNs before buying a used phone.

If I ever buy one again I'll definatly ask for the ESN up front I've learned my lesson. I was wondering if I were to unlock it could it be used on another carrier? Like boost mobile or something? Then maybe I could sell it straight up without screwing someone else. I even thought about listing it on ebay with a big bold disclaimer saying it cannot be used with sprint. I gave $200 for it and it's in perfect condition
You can definitely put it on Pageplus, Cricket or Metro. Not sure about VM or Boost since they are also on Sprint's network.

Nexus s + medianet $15 data plan (at&t)

Has anyone gotten this to work?
For this to work, att can't have the imei of our phone. This leaves out the att version sold by best buy USA.
But what about the Canada version?

If you cant pay you cant play...... Seriously if you cant afford another 10 dollars you shouldn't have bought the phone.
Ok asshole. Instead, I'm a high schooler who wants a dev phone (relying on just the sdk emulator is a *****), and has to pay for it by myself because the nexus s isn't on Verizon, which is what my parents have. I can't sign a contract for another 10 months because I'm not old enough. And I can't afford to wait until the prime, because I have work I want to finish right now.
I'm not using the medianet plan. I'm using the $50 unlimited plan. They work the same, because at&t scans for imeis of known smartphones that they sell, like the atrix. I was just wondering if the canadian nexus s worked because recently best buy USA started selling an att version.
My nexus one never worked on it (only text and calls), so I was just wondering about the s. I can get a new white one for cheap.
Edit: but seriously dude why would you come to a random person and say stuff like that? I guarantee you wouldn't say it to my face. I bet you wont even call me and say it. Why do you think you're so much better because you can sign a contract and pay extra money?
AT&T Crack Down
AT&T will eventually find out that you are using an excessive amount of data throughput via "medianet". I know there was an iPhone 2g trick that would fool AT&T into allowing the $15 plan; however the access in which your smart phone "dials out" to AT&T would expose your phone as being a smart phone. I had an N1 on AT&T and they knew the IMEI number... I bought it via Google too. AT&T has their ways...
The only thing you could do is get the NS, w/ or w/o a 2yr plan and use the DataPlus plan for $15. (If cost is an issue.)
Cost isn't the issue, its the contract. I can't sign one. I'm on an incredible s right now from Canada on the dumb phone plan with ATT and I was just wondering if the nexus would know or not. They knew about my n1 but not my inc s.

I bought one prior to it releasing on AT&T (through Best Buy mobile) and it worked fine on the $10/$15 MEdiaNet Data plan. Decided to sell it as soon as AT&T released it as their own. I've been wondering the same question lately seeing it's one of the best android phones for the price (I can get a used Rogers one for about $300 unsubsidized.) I'm currently using the Desire Z from Bell Canada on the MEdiaNet plan.
P.S. Would you be willing to sell your Incredible S for around $300?
No thanks, I'm looking for closer to 400 on it. But OK cool the nexus worked

the unlocked t-mobile version isn't seen as a smartphone by at&t and the poor soul who had the nexus one that was spotted as a smartphone, if yours had the t-mobile frequencies then you were just unlucky.
if its built with t-mobile 3g then it will only connect to the EDGE network and i don't think at&t really cares.

Thanks for chiming in 17 days late. So I'm on a high horse because I think trying to cheat a company out of 10 bucks was stupid? Are you going to support him when he comes back and asks how to download paid apps for free? Where are you going to draw the line? Everyone should just stop. I figured it all out, I'm now on straight talk for unlimited everything + 2gb data for $45 a month, and it uses AT&T towers (mvno carrier). This plan worked better, but it requires a $100 fee to start up, but I paid the price because I can't sign contracts.
I wanted to use the medianet plan because I can't sign a contract while I'm under 18. I never wanted to get free apps, or do anything like that. I've been around XDA for a bit, dabbled in devving for a few phones, and I'm pretty sure some of my threads are even stickied. I know the rules etc.
All that said, PLENTY of threads are on XDA about taking advantage of the medianet loophole. It saves $20+ a month, and data is unlimited (not available to other plans) and unthrottled. Many people have no problem sticking it to a corporation that they hate like AT&T, and IMO unlimited data should be unlimited.. smartphone or not, so I had no problem with the idea of it.

I bought a rogers nexus s (french+english text on box) and they changed my data plan
I got a white i9020a (canadian?) and they changed my dataplan from medianet to a smartphone They can't have the IME number though.. and I tethered all the time on my Nokia E71 w/ medianet so I don't think it was data usage that tipped them off.
How could they know I got an i9020a Nexus S? Maybe a heuristic like if you download from Google's market servers you're on a smartphone?

[Q] I have a Sprint NExus S with a bad ESN. What can...

I do with it? I tried for days to get a good deal on a Sprint Nexus and inadvertantly bought one that had a bad ESN. I know it was a stupid thing to do and I've learned my lesson. I suppose I'll put it on EBay and try to unload it. I've read that these phones can b used on Cricket but what other options are there? Are there other carriers that can use this phone? Can the average Joe flash these phones to alternate carriers or do they need to be sent to hecking geniuses that charge a fee to do it?
Anyone want to take it off my hands?
That sucks. I believe it may be flashable on metro pcs as well.

HTC Thunderbolt activation

Hello all,
So I snagged a thunderbolt from a guy locally who only wanted 20.00 bucks for the phone cause he upgraded to a new phone. I don't think this guy know how much this phone still sells for used, thought it was to good to be true but jumped on the offer anyway and bought it for the heck of it even though I already have a droid X2 running off of page plus. The phone is almost in new condition, called Verizon to verify it was clean for activation and it is
So my question ive heard that http://www.beigephone.com/ will flash the phone to work on page plus, has anyone used this and is it a good company to go though? Also would I have to pick up another 4G LTE sim card since he left is old one in the phone?
I would do it myself, I have been rooting and flashing phones for a few years now but not sure if I wanna pony up the 100.00 bucks for CDMA Workshop since this company only charges 49.99 for flashing.
Sorry for any misspells bad day at work and was kind of drunk when I wrote this
Thanks,

Screw T-Mobile, What can I do?? Please help.

So I have been having a bad experience with T-Mobile. I just moved into a new house with my girl and son and I have the worst service. "Light Green" they called it...I only get 4G 20% of the time, with dropped called, missing texts or texts that take a couple hours to day to get to me, so I tried to get the cancellation fee waived, i went into T-Mo and they said they would send a request. I recieved a letter in the mail about 15 days after, saying that I was Declined and that I can just go outside in my car, or on the sidewalk to make a phone call or to get 4G....WTF MATE!?
Heres where it gets retarded...So I didnt really have a credit score when I initially signed up for T-Mobile. So I had to pay a deposit fee or whatever of $200 bucks...They said i would get that back after 1 year of paying. The day it became 1 year i called T-Mo. They said they would send it to my bank account and sent the request in. About 9 days later I get a phone call from an automated message saying my account wasnt eligible...So I went into the T-Mobile store and talked to them, and they couldnt give me a straight answer, so they called customer service and asked them to send me a visa card with the $200. 2 days after i check my account online and they credidted my T-Mo account and paid that months bill???!!!
I was pissed So I went into the store and I told them i did not ask for that and i asked why they would do this, they couldn't tell me why...So they sent a request to refund my tmo account then to send me the $200 to a visa AGAIN. About 2 weeks later I get $102.93 in the mail...They denied my request to refund me and still paid my bill and sent me the remainder.....And at the time i really needed the money.
I said screw them and I havent paid my bill it was due almost 2 weeks ago, and there about to shut me off. I planned on switching to Simple Mobile but when I called primetime to see prices and stuff they told me if i have a balance with tmobile that they would decline me...Metro also uses tmobiles network and walmart uses tmobiles network....
So my question is what can I do to get service on this phone? What plans do I have available, because I don't really plan on paying t-mobilem they can go screw. Im done with there BS.

Will do, still have to order a sim card. I will buy it either tomorrow or Monday and probably get it within a week or 2, otherwise I would have already tried it. The process seems pretty straight forward though and if it works on the S2, I don't see why it wouldn't work for us blazers but you never know.

i hope i got here in time.
T-Mob won't unlock your phone for three reason:
1. you don't have any outstanding balance
2. the devices has to be used on your line for 1 or 2 weeks
3. your line has to be in good standing and active for 40 days.
But if anybody who has t-mob tried to call and get the imei unlock code for your phone, i wouldn't suggest it as they may either have to send in the bills that shows you paid full price for the phone or the devices is used on their line for 7 days.
Also, from what you're stating, you probably didn't communicate clearly with T-Mob store rep, but sometime, you just have to find the right person, tell them stright off what happen and keep it simple and you'll be clear.
and as for the $200, i'm not surprised they had you put it in, and you DO have credit scores. they can come from any sources. the Public Library keeps one, getting a loan from any sources used under your SSN will affect your credit scores. any past debts unpaid will affect it as well. renting a house also affect it.
and i'm not sure, but if they're suppose to put it back into your account, and it haven't, it normally mean that someone screw up. and if i were you, i'm certain it isn't T-Mob that screw you over but the local place. if they have to call customer services, that mean they're a 3rd party store representing T-Mob. I would suggest you head back to the original place you got your phone and plan and speak to the person in charge. they might be the one refusing to give you the money, not t-mob.

What I meant when I said I didn't really have a credit score was because I never really had any bills under my name at the time of signing up with t-mo.
Trust me I communicated with them just fine...the person who I talked to in the store was the person who set me up with them, she's a really nice lady, so I know it wasn't her doing. I had originally called customer service to get my deposit back. They sent in the requst to fund my bank account originally. The lady at the t-mo store did everything correctly and showed me exactly what she did on the computer and I even talked to one of the account specialists.
It was T-Mobile being pricks. They didn't want to give me the money or at least not the whole thing, which was clear from what they were doing. They stated my bank account not being eligible in an automated message and because it wasn't "eligible" for absolutely no reason they put the money in my t-mo account instead and paid that months bill before I could even do anything and there was still 13 days till i had to pay the bill. Then denied my request to get my money back that they used to pay the bill, and denying the cancellation fee request for crappy unreliable service and telling me in a letter that I can go out in my car or the sidewalk to call and use 4g which still didn't work all that great outside.
This is definitely T-Mobiles fault not customer service. There money hungry a-holes and don't care for the customer as a whole.

Huh. you and i have two different experiences when it came to dealing with T-Mob. They tried to overcharge me once, but they credit my account.
I guess, our two experiences are different.
However, I would suggest you go speak to that lady and ask her what happen if you unlock your phone to use on other network if you still have outstanding account with T-Mob.
