Not sure I should keep new Nexus-S over my EVO ? - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So my Wife needed a new phone, and get out of T-Mobile, and on to a good family plan. Since I was with Sprint already the last year with my EVO 4G, I said get the Nexus-S this weekend, will be a great little phone compared to her old school MyTouch 3G.
So we went to the Sprint store my buddy is a Mngr at, and I got the bug and also picked up a Nexus-S 4G, and set us up on a killer family plan.
- What I like about the Nexus-S;
Lightweight and fits in pocket easily
Screen is beautiful
Battery life is longer than rooted EVO
Pure "vanilla" Google OS, clean with no bloatware
2.3.4 Video Chat for the Wife and kids
- What I don't like;
Miss the "Sense UI"
4" curved screen, makes it feel much smaller than the EVO's 4.3" flat tablet like display.
No Sprint Visual Voicemail
My EVO 4G was rooted with Myn's RS 5, and I LOVED it, but the phone felt a little too thick and bulky at times, and heavy in the pocket, especially with Summer now, the phone does not fit in a short sleeve pocket like the Nexus easily does. And even with netarchy kernel and all battery life still was crappy compared to rooted Nexus-S.
But I seem to really miss the "Sense UI" the most, just a bit of a shock getting used to vanilla Android. I liked the Sense e-mail app, for non gmail accounts. The dialer and contacts was nice. The keyboard was sweet with arrows keys. Stock Visual Voicemail was great.
Not too sure what to do now ? Keep the Nexus-S and wait for CM 7.1 ROM that supports 2.3.4 and see how I like that ? I was a big fan of Cyanogen back on my Nexus-One, but then got turned onto Sense. Or go back to EVO and upgrade to EVO 3D next month and wait for Myn's ROM on that beast ?

i went from an evo to the nexus s and am loving it. i really wanted that pure google and once i got it rooted, some useless apps removed it was even better.
for me, an overall better experience than the evo.

apreichner is in the process of porting sense to the NS, so there is a big chance we'll be seeing a fully functional sense port. Just have patience, the NS is a great phone

I am getting much more comfortable with my Nexus-S 4G today, after a full work day of use. Loving the feel of it in the palm of my hand, rests so nicely, and the screen is gorgeous. The battery life on the Nexus is amazing so far, being unplugged for 6+ hours, and not even half drained yet, at 60% now, and that's with tons of phone calls and plenty of texting as well as web browsing. And still not even rooted yet, so no custom ROM's or kernels, can only imagine the battery life with a good netarchy
The EVO to me is borderline tablet big, not just the 4.3" screen, but was also very thick and heavy. Not a fun phone to carry around in light shorts in the Summer. But sometimes that was nice, making it feel like a mini laptop, with lots of space to work with, and the Sense e-mail and contacts were very well designed.
But the more I am with the Nexus-S, the more I like it. yeah I misses the Sense UI, but getting used to vanilla is nice too Just waiting for CM 7.1 to come out, and then this phone should really be amazing.

Zorachus, I would suggest that you wait another 15 days or so before making a decision to switch back to the EVO if you so choose to.
I believe within that time frame you could either have a working sense port running on your nexus S, OR EVEN perhaps you could try miui when the netarchy kernel for the nexus 4G comes out.
To be honest Miui is just as full of a rom as Sense roms themselves. Lots of nice features and a lovely UI

Thanks for all the advice appreciated I am getting more comfortable with this the Nexus. Everyday.
Main thing I miss with Sense is the default email app blows the stock Android one out of the water. And the dialer on sense was much better too. Its just those two things really.
Battery life is night and day better on this nexus compared to my evo and this phones sots in my hand better and hides in pocket easily.

I just switched to the Nexus S 4G from the Evo. I picked it up last night. I was running CM 7 on the Evo so the switch wasn't that big of a deal. So far, I like the weight, the size (I agree with you on the size thing. I can handle this change) Battery life I'm not sure about but I got somewhere around 25 hours on the EVO, so we'll see how the this one handles.
I like the pure Google experience. I thought the EVO was going to be updated constantly from the manufacture but sadly its now left behind at least for now.
I'd rather have google push out my updates than rely on HTC.

and what about a desire hd? should i get ns over my dhd? really don't know.. =o\\

ok...another day with the Nexus-S, and it is growing on me finally Was having major EVO withdrawal, mainly missing a lot of the "Sense UI" stuff, but now with these new apps installed, am really starting to dig this sexy Nexy.
Here are several apps I needed to install to get rid of the lame stock ones.
- #1 was "Better Keyboard 8", a much improved keypad for texting, e-mails, etc...larger buttons, smarter layout of keys, and all black themed.
- #2 was "Go SMS", hands down the best text app, and with a cool black theme, blows away the boring stock Messaging, very customizable.
- #3 was "YouMail" Makes it just like the stock Sprint Visual Voicemail on my EVO.
- #4 was "Opera Mini" web browser, night and day faster than the stock internet, very smooth and no lagging.
- #5 was "On Call End" when done with a phone call, bring you back to home screen, instead of dialer.
- #6 was "TouchPal Dialer " shows the recent calls on top with keypad below, shows how long ago the call was made or missed, more like the "Sense UI" dialer.
- #7 was "Beautiful Widgets" a must have for the coolest clock/weather screen.
And several other apps, but these seven above were must haves, and make my Nexus-S much improved, and closer to the "Sense UI" stuff I missed from my EVO, and a lot of these apps have option for black theme which I really like on this phone.
But still the one MISSING app I can not find anywhere is a good default e-mail client for the non @gmail accounts. The default Sense UI e-mail on the EVO was ****ing spot on perfect, wish there was something in the Market to match that ?

K-9 mail?

Try Touchdown mail client if you like the sense mail client. I use it for my work's exchange server and am loving it!

[Q] Captivate or EVO?

So I went and played around just for a few min with the captivate, and i was blown away by that screen.. but didnt care much for the app drawer and a few other samsung tweeks.. but it seems most can now be eliminated by CM6 so the question for all of you.. pros and cons of the captivate vs the evo?

Biggest Pro to the captivate is no 4 G up charge also No HTC Sense.
Captivate. My cousin who has the EVO is jealous, especially of the AMOLED screen.
I faced the same decision. I code the captivate. I thought the evo was very un-smooth. Everything seemed jerky. I've read numerous reviews saying the battery will die in less than a day, even if you never turn the screen on. I thought the screen looked very dull, even by lcd standards. I don't know if htc sorted it out yet, but the screen was separating from the body of the phone for just about everyone. If you play games that require quick dragging, the phone has enough touch lag to be very irritating. The phone has dust-under-the screen issues and it's not even from the corner that separates from the body.
The captivate has problems too, but as long as the gps is fixed, I'll be happy with my decision.

Hmmmm on the Captivate forum, you think anyone will recommend the Evo?
Also there is no CM6 for the Captivate right now - someone is working on a Vanilla port, but it is not finished.
Then there is the issue of network coverage - Sprint vs. AT&T and just try taking your Evo outside North America - it won't make phone calls.
HTC doesn't have a great track record for rock solid hardware either.
I wonder if the Galaxy S phones wouldve been more popular (and better for the android brand) if Sammy hadnt actually bothered with touch wiz?
Hmmm...point to ponder

I figured in this forum there might be some ppl who switched and they could tell me why.
I think im going to go buy the captivate today.. i just wish the usb port were on the bottom so it could have a normal dock...
EVO with everything turned off: 4G, GPS, WiFi, email and other automatic updates, etc. I still got maybe 9 hours before having to recharge. When you work a 12 hour shift as ER Nurse one doesn't have opportunity to be without their drug and medical reference source while it's recharging. I don't sit down much!
Have owned a new HTC WinMo device each of the last five years, but despite quality issues they were the only real game in town. Now they aren't, and like Steve Jobs they better wake their arrogant arses up!
EVO has too many issues: screen delaminates(fixed), LED light bleeding everywhere, bright/hot spots, power buttons commonly crack as well as the protruding camera lens cracks since it takes impacts everytime one places it down on flat surface, etc. and depending on who you speak to at Sprint most consider these abuses and won't warranty them.
I don't want to jinx it, but my 3 week old Captivate's battery life kicks a** and can go 36 hours before absolutely having to recharge, plus main reason why I haven't taken final step to try JH3.
I plug it in everynight though, but aside from the hopefully repairable GPS issue it's awesome.
Updated EVO to Froyo 2.2 and noticed improvements immediately soo I can't wait. I'll miss animated Sense widget cause app version just isn't same though.

I like everything about touch wiz that can't be replaced by launcher pro. I like all the small stuff peppered throughout the os.
touch wiz flat out sucks.........i don't know what gave samsung the idea that it was good.
At least for HTC Sense, it's pretty, good looking, and includes things like the weather clock widget plus full weather animations that stock doesn't have, plus the Sense keyboard is good from what i've heard.
I would take Sense over touch wiz.........but yea anyways, vanilla is still better than any.
As for Cyanogenmod.....it's coming. They said there will be CM on the Galaxy S phone, you can go check out who was put on that job.
Edit: i forgot to answer the thread.........i would get the Captivate. Superior performance, better screen, slim, but less screen real estate. 4 inches IMO is just about the sweetspot for a phone. Hummingbird and PowerVR SGX540 are beast though, they will last you until your upgrade if not longer, Captivate has the best GPU in a mobile phone right now and no other phone has it yet. OMAP doesn't plan on putting it in their phones until their multi-core cpu's come out which is like the end of 2011 from what i've heard.
Go for the Captivate....snapdragon is also slow in 3D apps which means the Evo will be
I actually like the Touchwiz features - the slide to call on the contacts screen, the app drawer, widgets....
The top USB port is so your phone can lay sideways and dock - it slides into a samsung dock with plug on the side.
Some of the down sides are Samsungs email and calendar apps - but this is not really touchwiz fault - but samsung app fault. The lag issues are also not touchwiz, but Samsungs other decisions.
But you are correct in the notion that all can be fixed by a 3rd party or vanilla rom.
If you have that option, why not wait for the Epic?
4G, front facing camera, flash, slide out keyboard, SuperAMOLED screen. I wish I had Sprint. I am very happy with my Captivate though, overall.
Definitely the Galaxy S over the EVO. The EVO screen looks incredibly washed out to me now.
Plus if you're into customizing your phone at all the HTC Sense crap is very unfriendly.

I did. Had the EVO for a month, and returned it. Primary issues
- horrible battery life, even with 4g, wifi etc turned off when not used. Couldn't get past 5PM.
- 4G connectivity is spotty at best. Doesn't work while indoors. Plus, when you have 1 bar of 4G, the phone tries to get the data thru 4G waits for a min or two, before giving up and reconnecting to 3G. All this time, I was waiting for an app to get data.
- Build quality - Light leakage at the bottom of the screen, battery door doesn't line up with the rest of the body, recessed ear piece would collect dust and so on. Expected more from a seasoned player like htc.
I didn't really mind the $10 fee for 4G, because overall Sprint's plan is cheaper than VZ's or ATT's anyway. But, the phone isn't good enough. Of course, people in EVO forums wouldn't agree
They are both great phones. Galaxy is a more powerful phone, so I think it will stay relevant longer. I have a friend with droid x and a acquaintance with evo and both screens just don't compare. Especially the droid, its just, really washed out. I am really happy with the phone, and touchwiz, but this is my first android phone. But I think samsung did an excellent job adding contrast throughout the interface to take advantage of the amoled screen. Like messaging for example. I have excellent battery life and no lag complaints, so I've never bothered with lag fix (and as an adderall fueled college student I think any lag would annoy the hell out of me)
Gps very broken though

I have a evo and captivate. I have had a really hard time deciding what to keep. If you are a gamer I would say captivate but if gaming on your phone is not a big deal to you then I would go with the evo. They perform pretty close in all aspects but gaming is 2x to 3x better on the captivate. The captivate screen has better colors but has blue tint in whites. You cant tell unless you compare to evo side by side on Google's home page. The Sense vs touchwiz is personal preference. I like touchwiz app menu better then my evo's but sense has better UI and widgets.
Some videos I made evo vs captiavte with and without lag fix.

If you turn auto sync off and gps off when your not using it, with moderate web use and a god bit of texting I got two days before battery went to red. Very happy.

From N1 to Inspire thoughts???

Is it me or there really isnt that much of a difference coming from my Cyanogen N1 to the inspire. I really cant see that much of a difference on the speed. The only thing that i can see is the bigger screen. Ohh well i do like sence ui, its nice compared to Launcher Pro...anyone else see more then i can see...im trying to justify keeping my inspire...thanks in advanced....
I'm keeping the Inspire basically for the screen size and brightness especially under bright daylight.
Don't get me wrong, the N1 is a great phone but for my old peepers, good screen size and clarity is a must. :-(
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Well the nexus is using the less battery efficient first gen snapdragon, that's one major difference.
Inspire (rooted)
Leedroid v2.0.0
Stock kernel w/r34p3rex audio fix
AOSP Lockscreen
You are comparing a CM N1 with a stock Inspire... Imagine the potential of running CM7 and overclocking the Inspire
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
heres a huge difference, you can hit your capacitive buttons where they are supposed to be hit without guessing. I hated that about the 3 nexus ones I owned.
Thanks for all the quick replies, i needed some feedback to the pro of the inspire...im switching back and forth between devices...and im gonna be really confussed when my Atrix comes in on monday...decisions, decisions, decisions...
I know that the support for roms and rooting for the atrix is going to be very limited...and as for the HTC devices, skies the limit...
^^ That's the number one reason I chose the Inspire over the Atrix. The larger screen doesn't hurt either.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
I'm taking my Inspire back to the retail store this evening after work. I have played with it for a week and decided that it's not enough of an improvement over my Nexus One to justify extending my contract another two years. I have lusted for the Desire HD since it's release. Sadly, it has fallen short of my own expectations.
I have decided that I actually prefer the smaller screen of the Nexus One. Also, that the Inspire's larger screen is not coupled with a higher resolution was a bigger disappointment than I expected. The Inspire certainly benchmarks better than the N1, but when I can not perceive the difference in actual daily use it means nothing to me. I was also pretty disappointed by the audio of the Inspire; ringtones and notifications seem much softer to me.
The on thing this past week with the Inspire has given me is a renewed appreciation of my Nexus One. YMMV, of course.
I just jumped over to an Inspire 4G from a Nexus One and this is my opinion on the change.
(Note: I was using stock android 2.2 on my N1)
Pros:
+ Larger Screen
+ Better GPU (I can actually play Dungeon Defenders now)
+ Capacitive buttons actually work, and work very well
+ 3G/4G service has worked without fail. From time to time I would have full 3G bars on my N1 and nothing would send/recieve
- Battery life is half that of the N1 (Currently working on extending it in different ways)
- The phone is really big and doesn't want to fit in my pocket like my N1 did (I understand that's a sacrifice I must make for the giant screen)
- No trackball
- Sideloading apps is a pain
- I'm not a fan of HTC Sense so I've installed LauncherPro to get a more "Vanilla" experience out of the phone
That's all I got as I've only had it for roughly 5 days.
Well i have been trying to live with my inspire theses past few days...and well this is what i like...
The SCREEN for some reason is really crisp, over my N1 and over the Atrix. It might be that due to the larger screen...
The SPEED, is really quick...i mean opening apps and so fourth...
SENCE UI, im begining to like it a bit...
CAMERA, gotta love HTC's camera, that point to focus is awesome...
now my dislikes....
SIZE, it kind of feels a bit funny in hand...i guess i have to get used to it....
BATTERY, it sucks...pain and simple...but i have been getting better batt life since i installeda taks manager...
Well im picking up my ATRIX today and will compair them all and see which ones to keep...lol...will keep you all posted...

Should i trade My Captivate for Desire Z?

As the title says it, should i trade it for desire z? ive read some stuff online, like i know captivate has an amazing screen, looks good, bigger screen , samoled, but the thing is it sells for less like 350$ if your lucky.. should i do it?
Should i wear the Blue Shirt or the Green Shirt?
green btw b honest lol .
I, personally, would take the trade. I prefer the look and feel of the Desire Z (though the keys are a bit small), and being an HTC device, it tends to have a much larger community following/support (like cyanogenmod and the like)... but that's just my opinion on it
inital rooting and stuff is a bit more in-depth than captivate but it is totally doable and had many of the same options. i originally was going to get the Z because it has keyboard too. after looking into the extra crap i was kind of releaved. check out the XDA wiki on that phone for more info
I like the desire z, I'm partial to HTC products and the use of adb tools mainly because I have zero formal training in any computer training. Using adb to root has a certain wow factor for me. However I had the inspire for a week and returned it after bringing it back to stock form. I just couldn't justify paying the full retail price for it. So, now I'm back to the captivate using cog 4 and have a new renowned love for this phone. Ultimately its up to you. I personally think the captivate is a great device especially with a base froyo and GPS being fixed. Build quality would go to HTC though. I hope this helped as its a long rant.
I was really not impressed with the inspire, or sense for that matter.
After messing around with the inspire for two days and seeing how much stuff sense adds in it actually makes me feel less bad about t-wiz. With touch wiz after you delete the launcher and some samsung apk's, alls that's left is twframework which besides adding some small cosmetic stuff adds the shortcuts to the pull down menu, which I like. The inspire had more htc apks than almost the total amount of apks in my rom. There was almost 60 framework files before deodexing the inspire. The inspire is generally quick as far as cpu stuff, like app to qr. I use this app sometimes for a real life cpu task tests when testing kernels and whatnot. The inspire will generate the apps 2-3 times faster than the captivate. Despite this, the captivate just feels waaaaaay smoother and LESS laggy mostly I guess because the GPU is so much better.
i have been using my HTC Vision (Tmob G2) unlocked with my ATT card (most of my time is spent on wifi anyway) and while i absolutely love the battery life i get with the DesireZ rom on it, i hate the keyboard. i have been trying to force myself to use it more and more, but i keep wanting to go back to one of my captivates and swype....i feel the trial period wont last long now...my cappies are calling my name
Dilli, my exact feeling. That's why when I had ilthe inspire I removed sense completely. Its a beautiful fast phone with launcherpro minus the tiny battery but I could not justify the full retail price.

Yup I did the same thing. Instead of wasting my early upgrade on a phone that's hardware is gonna be outdated very(if not already) soon when it seems like this year is gonna bring some crazy phones and cpus and whatnot. I paid the full 450 for it, returned it about a week later and bought the atrix for 400. Despite the whole bootloader issue, the atrix IS without a doubt the fastest phone I've ever used, even if the system is not fully utilizing its dual core yet, which I kinda hope its not cause when it does, its gonna be insane. And running app to qr on the atrix is even almost twice as fast as the inspire, probably 4 times faster than the captivate, plus so far is buttery smooth. The inspire was almost a tradeoff for a little bit of speed but greatly reduced smoothness. Atrix so far has both, plus I actually like the screen a lot.
wow damn, but if anything i can always sell it for more, in canada desire z sells for 400$ plus, captivate.. barley sells and its furstrating since captivate is better in aspects of screen weight and stuff and battery is better!! Inspire is the Desire HD in canada? seriously you guys didnt like that/ that looks like a sick device, anyways might go for a red torch xD sell it and add about 100$ and buy a new iphone4 front facing camera <3
I would take a captivate or an inspire for that matter any day of the week over an iphone 4. Had one of those too, along with every other iphone and was very involved in the jailbreak scene, up until I tried android. There's no way ill EVER go back to ios. This is my opinion, but ios completely sucks compared to android. You'll be bored with it in a week, even if you jailbreak. I would literally rather have a captivate on stock 2.1 than a jailbroken iphone 4
really? dont get me wrong android is nice, but i like to have that GPS option working on an iphone than not workin on a captivate + i personally dont like the touch buttons prefer the one form i9000

buying a sidekick 4g, any thoughts?

Am going to pick up a SK4G in a little bit and was wondering from our community the general conscensus on how you guys feel about it?
I'm coming from a MT4G, which I am extremely happy with, the way I have it set-up. Any one also have both and maybe a comparison? (not the obvious of course like "the screen is smaller", etc., I've been around a bit, I know a tad about a couple things =] )
I've noticed it doesnt have as crazy as a following as some of the other androids, but that doesnt mean theres no good development going on!
Let me know if you dont mind.
I came from the mt3gs and a VM optimus v afterwards. I wanted the mt4g for the specs. But I couldn't do all touch typing. I found keyboards to help. But it's just not the same as a physical qwerty.
I'm the kind of guy who likes to buy phone 2-4x a year. Maybe not the kings of the hill. But mid to high range phones. Of course, it's expensive to do so. I decided to get a phone to last a whole two-year contract. I opted for the s4g. I was due for an upgrade and even waited until launch date for this over a g2 or mt4g.
What won me was obviously the keyboard. You don't see too many 5-rows available. Spec-wise, this phone is just average. Camera dept. is really lacking. Only 3mp. But lack of led flash was the killer. Still, the keyboard was winner. The physical design is nice. I especially liked the sliding mechanism. Half-phone sliders, like the mt3gs, just feel faulty and flimsy. You could pull the halves apart or slide past the closing stop point. Not that an average person would. But I like to conduct stress tests. This mechanism is sturdy. People have dropped plenty times and claim the mechanism is just as sturdy as it was at purchase.
Also, the screen tilt really makes a difference. Using my mt3gs after this makes it really apparent. It makes using a non-tilt screen really hard to adjust back to.
The phone does come with some bugs and issues, which you can read through the forums (I have a thread over at tmo forums and adroid central entitled "bug report and other issues".) However, rooting and getting custom rom Smooth Maximus GingerClone will make the phone a new phone. The speed is fast and lag hardy present. Only minute issues still remain, yet to be resolved.
Overall, especially if you need a physical keyboard, I would suggest this phone. It is highly recommended you get Smooth Maximus for its best value. If all-touch phones didn't bother me I would go for a mt4g, g2, or wait for the mt4gs. But for you, as a backup phone this is an awesome investment. I would wait for the mt4gs, though, just for its specs and future android development.
I would say don't. You will miss the MT4G. I did the same thing Saturday night. I got rid of it last night. The phone has a nice keyboard and stuff... but the performance of the phone lacks! I mean it has a 1ghz processor and all, but its nowhere near fast as a vibrant.
I would say don't. Because you will be disappointed. If you want a keyboard get the G2 or wait for the myTouch 4G Slide.
3 days after I got the SK4G I traded it immediately and got a Nexus S instead. That phone wouldn't send or receive texts and it also wouldn't call or receive calls until I restarted. But that might have been wifi callings issue though. And if you browse the web a lot then this is not your device since the screen is so small. The only thing I liked about the phone was Cloud Text and the phenomenal keyboard. Although, as all Samsung slider keyboards do, it tends to once in a while not register a key when typing.
The quality of the SK also lacks significantly compared to the myTouch....
Just my 2 cents.

Listen , you should do a bit research before posting in this thread imo .
It's a 1GHz of course it lack's performance , the Galaxy & SK4G have the same processor & gut's & once you install a custom kernel & ROM you will be fine , there is no Wifi Calling issue & browsing the web is fine , Cloud Text & the keyboard is amazing .
I don't wanna be bias so I'll give my honest opinion. If you are a power user, don't get this phone. Though it runs a lot more smoothly on a custom root setup, it still has tiny lag, as enoch pointed out it doesn't register all button keyboard presses. The only reason you should get the sk4g is for the keyboard alone. If not then a more powerful phone may satisfy your needs.
If you are a power user, don't get this phone. If you're getting a phone just cause, you can consider this. I love the phone and haven't put it down since. But if this is a main phone for two years on contract, you can get something better.
Lol, I don't mean to contradict my earlier post. I'm not as bias with this one.
i would recommend the sk4g. coming from all-touch smartphones like the nexus one and hd2 running android and the hd7, i am happy with the sidekick 4g. i generally avoided android phones with qwerty keyboards because most are sliders and i hate phones with too much movement.
the droid pro was my dream form factor for an android phone but since i am happy with tmo there was no way i would switch to verizon just for that phone. plus the resolution on the droid pros smaller screen was a turnoff.
the slider on the sidekick 4g is pretty sturdy. the keyboard is awesome. i use my phone a lot for business and the sidekick 4g was the last smartphone on my list. but after comparing to other qwerty androids out there the skg4 seemed to be one of the better.
the camera is only 3m and no led flash. but the quality of the pictures is pretty good for being 3m. depending on what rom i had on my hd2, the sk4g's cam took pics just as good.
the speakerphone is pretty good. better than any htc ive had.(g1, mytouch 3g, hd2, hd7, nexus one).
even though its mostly made of plastic, its pretty durable and not as 'cheap' feeling as some claim it to be. i actually think its one of the more better built phones ive had(besides the hd2).
as for performance, even though it has the same 1GHz hummingbird processor as the galaxy s, tab, etc... it doesnt feel as smooth. most of the lag can be noticed while unlocking, navigating through any custom ui, and switching back to home screen from some apps. but once you are inside of an app it feels just as smooth and snappy as other 1GHz smartphones.
if i were you i'd probably wait until the mytouch 4g slide comes out.. its not too long. im not really digging the mytouch4g/slide's front looks and not liking how the touchscreen is fully exposed on all sides as opposed to the sk4g's screen/slider is protected on two sides.
I know my phones. I know it technically has the same guts as any Galaxy S phone. But I can tell you any Galaxy S phone feels so much more faster than this phone does. I mean I was shocked that the phone didn't perform like a 1ghz device should! I did install Bali with voodoo enabled and that didn't make much difference. While on the vibrant the difference was almost night and day.
And yes I pointed out that Cloud Text and the keyboard are Amazing!
But the phone is just sluggish.
If he is a power user, he needs to look elsewhere because this phone won't suffice your need of power. I mean I found my self restarting the phone every few hours while on my myTouch 4G I never had to restart.
Another thing I should also point out is that battery life isn't the greatest. The phone wasn't lasting me even 8 hours a day (I'm more of a power user). While the myTouch would last me 22+ hours on the Virtuous Unity ROM or 18+ hours on stock. The phone with a keyboard that lasted the longest that I ever owned (android) was the G2 I was getting a solid 36+ hours of use. It was Stunning!!
My suggestion would be wait a few weeks and you can get the myTouch 4G Slide.

I would recommend this phone if you are a hardcore qwerty user like myself. I came from the MT4G and I got this phone through craigslist and I have been satisfied. Is it a high end phone? Maybe if this came out last summer but it does not stop this from being a good phone. Even though the development is not as great as other phones ( I do appreciate the support!) There is not much wrong with this phone. 3 MP is weak for a camera nowadays but it does its job. Is the phone sluggish at times? Sometimes but with the gingerclone rom and bali kernal it has decreased. With more roms in kernals in the future it should change indeed. As for the battery I let the battery die and let it charge completely and no lie got 24+ hours of battery life which consisted of playing Chrono Trigger on my phone (keyboard controller ftw) but as everyone else has been saying if you want value and a 5 row keyboard then sk4g, if you wanna throw some more money and wanna be that suave guy with a fancy phone then please get the mt4gs and tell me how it is ;-)

Not a good trade. I wouldn't do it.
Try to see if you can get a Nexus S instead.

most people who are all hardcore with buying the latest and greatest may disagree. My point of contention is, when your a guy like me who has to keep up with multiple females at any given moment there is no better phone. Simply put, *****es love texting. The only competition we have as far as touch screen texting is the Droid boomerang. I forget the model designation but the thing is ****ing retarded huge. Next up we have the blackberry, but the closed source OS was the major boner killer for me.
With all that said, if you **** *****es, like lots of *****es. There is no better phone. All the other ************s struggle to keep up. I don't know how, but all the females I know get at least 45 WPM out of those ****ing dinosaur Nokia bricks. I can't do that ****, but I do know that with a SK4G I can get 45 WPM+ with nearly 100% accuracy.

HTC Thunderbolt and Samsung Nexus Prime

I have HTC Thunderbolt and now that Nexus Prime is coming out and kind of start looking that direction, but I gotta say I'm so happy w/ my phone I dont know how can it be even better then what I have right here in my very own hands...
am I crazy?
If your happy then stick with what you got. There will always be bigger and better things when it comes to smartphones. Personally i'm waiting until they release some phones with the tegra 3 for an upgrade.

i never had a nexus so i want it! plus if cm9 will go to us same was as cm7 i'd rather skip that and get nexus tomorrow when it'll be out
I tried the Nexus over the weekend and came kicking and screaming for my tbolt.
Nexus is too big, gets too hot, battery life sucks, screen looks dirty on white backgrounds, blue is the new white, colors look strange/off, camera is crap, phone is slippery, no menu button makes me sad, 3rd party launches lag.
None of the above are true, coming from a former TB owner. The Nexus has basically zero lag, the rest is preference to screens and whatnot. My wife has my TB, and trust me, it does feel slow when I play with it now, still a great phone, but just speaking fact.
current T-bolt owner running the smoothest most functionable rom for my personal preference , the skyraider zeus 1.3, no other rom has anything on this rom. anyway, just bought my mother a nexus (so I can see how it works and play with it ) it is a pretty smooth running phone , I like how much support is avaiable for the phone already , sure there is some lag here and there , what doesent when you load it down with widgets and apps. I unlocked the boot loader alot eaiser ( thats the whole point) then I had to do with the T-bolt. the screen is alright nothing to complain about , android 4.0 is pretty neat , new feauters here and there, soft keys are different. but how can you go wrong with the T-bolt , there was just as much hype about the bolt as the nexus. I actually came from an og to the T-bolt , and I have found the user interface for sense alot more usefull then any other phone I have played with , and it also has a bad ass kickstand built in , I use that more then ever, I laugh at other phony cases that have a kick stand . yes there has been problems with the bolt here and there but it all worked out for me so far, im still going to be rockin the bolt for a while. but in hand the nexus feels great compared to the t- tank. I could go on and on but theres my 2 cents, and get a dollar back , (sry lil wayne poped in my head )
I bought the TB the day it was released, and my friend picked up the Nexus the day it was released. I've seen it a few times, he's running a custom ROM on it and the thing flies! We also ran speed tests and he was always getting 28-35Mbps down and I was getting 7-11Mbps down, not sure if it's because of the ROM I'm running (BAMF 1.10).
Now a few months ago I was really tempted to buy whatever Android was the top of the line at the time, but after using it for a minute I hated how sluggish and bogged down the thing was. Going back to my overclocked with BAMF TB, nothing at the time compared.
