So I love the phone but I just can't stand this battery anymore I'm starting to think t mobile gave me a used battery. Ive tried draining the battery to 0 then charging it to 100 nothing. I tried the restart nothing. I work from 8 to 4 and I start the day with 100 and end with 10 if I'm lucky! As I'm typing this its at 87% and its only 9:04. Running services like app pack car home and such are off wifi is off brightness at 50 and I kill tasks a lot with ATK can someone please give me a step by step on how to calibrate even if I have to mod the phone Thank you =)

I'm having the same issue as well. I just received my phone yesterday and I charged it fully last night and kept it unplugged over night. Overnight it only lost about 3%. But after medium ussage this morning which consisted of checking email/texting/surfing the web, the battery dropped a significant 25% over the course of 40 minutes. Any suggestions?

Root phone if you havent already
Charge phone to 100%
Flash clockworkrecovery
Boot into recovery and under the advanced menu select "Wipe Battery Stats"
Reboot

That kind of behavior is normal. The phone loses very little while idle but checking email and web surfing both require a data connection and that uses a lot of power. More usage = faster battery drain.
My galaxy s would easily last a full day with constant email/text and a couple hours of talk. This phone doesn't even seem to be able to last me a few hours. Do you also experience this significant battery loss?
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
You prolly need to do a factory reset. For some reason some peoples phones use more power even at idle than they should. My phone was one of them. There is a whole thread about it but pretty much doing a factory reset should correct this issue. Did for me. I get almost twice the battery life of my Galaxy S.

No need to go into recovery to wipe the stats, just use Battery Calibration(requires root) its in the market and also includes instructions on how to use the app.

true story. ive never used it so it didnt come to mind lol.
In the passed hour I've now lost 40%. That can't be right, can it? :/ I'm running everything stock btw and I'm unfamiliar with rooting and things of that nature.

I had the same problem. I followed the thread below and it worked. I've ben getting 10-15 on moderate-heavy use. I also did the htc battery calibration before I ran the battery calibration app. I use juice defender as well.

Check out the link jsauce75 posted. If you are running stock that means you most likely have background services running that are pulling significant battery. You will need to root and then use titanium backup to either remove or freeze those services.
Before doing that thought I would download Battery Monitor Widget. Use it to see how much power (mA) your phone is using. When I first got mine I was draining battery fast and when I used that widget I learned that the phone was using over 100mA even when idle. It was like the phone would never go into a sleep state. After doing a factory reset my phone idles at 1-2mA.
There isnt much you can do about battery drain while you use the phone because the screen and data connection are huge battery drains. All these tips are to improve your power consumption while idling. As I said before all I have done is factory reset and removed unneeded services and I have been getting double the battery life of my Galaxy S with the exact same apps and usage for weeks now.

1) You said you're using ATK "a lot". This is adding fuel to the fire. ATK is not needed with today's android systems. These apps you see sitting in ATK are sitting dormant. It's like the task manager of a computer. I have 3-4 apps running in my system tray and around 20 other services running in my task manager.. They are all sitting dormant, using zero CPU. They have ram allocated to them. That's it. That's the same as the Android. They are sitting dormant, and they have memory allocated to them. The best thing about the android OS is that it will automatically shut down dormant apps on its own. A PC doesn't do that. So, look at it this way. Let's say I'm on my laptop's battery. I have 20 apps/services running, and they are dormant. They are doing nothing towards drainage of my battery. But, I decide to turn on my screen "a lot" during the day, and kill the apps. Boom... Battery usage for the CPU to turn the screen on, the screen takes away from the battery, usage for the task monitor to be running.. Then, there is a process to shut down the apps, that takes battery.. Then on top of all that.. When the apps restart on their own.. guess what, they have CPU/Battery usage. You're adding fuel to the fire.... a lot of it, imho.
2) Install Watchdog and Titanium Backup (pay the small fee so you can freeze the apps.. or you can learn how to manually remove them yourself. I like using the app). Now, just to prove the point.. Open up ATK... Then go into Watchdog.. You'll see the apps that are running in ATK are not using any CPU. But.. when they do start up/shut down, there is some usage going on that will contribute. So with Titanium backup, freeze the apps. The apps I have frozen: AppPack, Broswer (have dolphin installed instead), Car home (2 of them?), com.android.provider. applications, com.logmein.resecuesecurity and .rescue, email (using gmail instead), My account (2 of them?), nfs shift, nova, street view, tmo TV, tegrazone, telenav, videochat voice dialer, zinio reader, zsprovider. From there, you can see the apps running in watchdog and you don't need ATK.. But, watchdog also uses processor to "monitor" the usage of other apps.. So place the threshold setting at like 40%, and the frequency at 3 or 5min. This will keep Watchdog from using too much battery, but it'll also notify you if an app is running wild on cpu usage. Maybe for 1 day, put the threshold at 30% or maybe even 20%.. so you can see if 1 or 2 apps are using a lot of power. If they are system apps or apps you want.. just leave em be. If they are not, freeze them/uninstall them.
3) I have found that using wifi and wifi calling GREATLY increases my battery life. As soon as I turn on 2g/3g/4g... my battery starts to take a fast dive. Whenever possible, use wifi/wifi calling...
4) Screen down to the lowest brightness setting. Shut off screen manually whneever you are done, or set it to 15sec shut off. I only bump up the brightness when i'm outdoors.. The glare makes the low setting impossible to see the screen.
5) Shut off syncing, bluetooth, and gps unless you need it. If you're around a computer at all where you can get your email and such, there is no need to use the phone for it. I only use tmo's network and syncing when I'm away from work or the house... typically when I'm on the road.
Lastly, yes, some people want to use their phone... use the 4g service.. etc. I understand.. But also understand that if you're going to use the phone like a computer.. and you're going to get 8hrs out of the battery... I say that's pretty dam good. This post is not meant to say that there is nothing wrong w/ the battery... It's to help you out to determine if there is a problem in the first place. There was a guy complaining about battery usage left and right. When I got involved in disussions with him, he admitted that he's on his phone all day long... txting quite a bit. Well.. duh?
I don't doubt there could be some challenges with a bad app running wild, a bad battery, etc. But I also don't doubt there are people who are using the crap out of a dual core phone.. and are doing things themselves to add to the problem... and then they blame the phone.
That's my 2c....

Thanks for the great detailed response. The OP actually was the one who stated he uses ATK, I don't. I looked through the thread with the recommendations for 20+ hour battery life and noticed that those apps you mentioned above required rooting the phone. I hate to sound so naive when it comes to this stuff but i'm a fairly new android user and have not yet discovered a lot of the technical aspects behind it all. I'm not exactly sure what rooting is and what it entails. Is it something you suggest I do? Also, my battery is slowly approaching 0%. Should I let it drain all the way before charging it again? Others suggested letting it drain all the way and doing a factory reset and that seemed to help their issues.
By default Android restricts certain areas of the OS from being accessed by third-party applications (prolly for security reasons). Only problem is a lot of great apps require such access to function properly. In order to give them that access you must root the phone.
Here is the rooting thread. It is extremely easy to do.

Does rooting affect warranty in any way?
or the ability to perform a factory reset for that matter?

New to android is not an excuse, I was a religious crackberry user for the last 8 years, and I just switched over to android last month. I'd suggest you to root you phone so that you can remove the stock cr4pwares, and the ability to install custom ROMs. Took me 10 mins to figured out how to install andriod OS into my hd2, 25 mins to perm rooted and unlocked my g2(this beast is little bit more "lockdown" than the other), and 5 mins to rooted the g2x. Google is your friend, bud. If you want something more out of your g2x, use the "search" button. Just my 2 cents.

FYI: I'm a first time android user (smartphone user at that..) and I rooted my phone easily. You can unroot your phone just as easy as you rooted it. It's a 1 click method with that software.. check out the link. Seriously, it's easy.
You may have to have ABD ADB or whatever installed first.. Not sure. I heard about it, and did it... and then rooted.. and it worked.
Thanks for the help guys, appreciate it. I'll let you know how it goes
I'm also having another issue with the phone. I'll see if you guys can help without having to make a new thread.
Yesterday I installed Zedge and downloaded one of the wallpapers there. When I applied the wallpaper I noticed a bit of lag on my home screens, so I reverted back to the default wallpaper and the lag was still there. I deleted the app and wallpaper I downloaded but the lag was still there. I applied a default live wallpaper and the lag disappeared and everything was moving as smoothly as it had been originally, but when I apply the regular wallpaper the lag persists. Any ideas?
now if u do root and remove bloatware what all is safe to remove i have all but my account car home and i think one other can anyone provide a definite list and battery is significantly better after just that
LOL think there's not driver issues. Swapped a dead battery with a fully charges one today and been running almost 2 hours still shows 1%

I know there is a bunch of threads about this but I am considering about a replacement at this point.
My battery is draining pretty fast doing same task as with my Galaxy S 4G. Web, few games, texts, few calls.
My battery life is around 5-9 hours and gotta recharge twice a day at this point. I though it would get better with time, had the phone since launch day.

I don't think 3G/4G makes a difference on battery usage. It's HSPA vs HSPS+, both are 3G, just one is a bit faster. It's not like Verizon where you have 3G and LTE 4G, and one sucks up more juice than the other.
lol yeah, it's pretty funny how all T-Mobile has to do is put a "4G" icon in your notification bar and people think the phone is running on a different network. The only thing that's different than, say, a N1, is that the G2x has a higher top end. Wireless companies have really effed everyone in the head with this 3G/4G BS.

i just guessed
but this device is know for having driver issues/mega bloatware running unless frozen or removed
and its a android phone... its not going to have a lot of battery left after powering all the bull spit that is running on it/screen/tethering/gps/mms & texting let alone all the other stuff people do with this phone....
talk to tmobile maybe you can get a new battery sent after saying yours is bogusly sucking.....
other than that wait for the drivers to be fixed.... a stable rom like BIONIX that krylon is baking in the oven and a UV/OC kernel MorFic is putting in the steamer as well....
its been less than 20 days this phone obviously has some issue's since LAUNCH
but to just give up like some people are doing and going to the HTC crapsation with 3.0 sense and a locked (not encrypted thank god) bootloader that will most likely have some issues as well is just flat out idiotic....
(i dont mean people dumping the phone are stupid... just expecting too much out of a 2 week old phone)

all battery's like that....(hd2, nexus s, nexus one, g2x)
My battery goes from full to 99% in about 6 hours when I sleep and wake up. The phone is not turned off btw. I am now using "Juice Defender Ultimate". Paid $3 and change when you get the free version and upgrade it from that free app (otherwise I think it is around $6). I have it at the "extreme" profile which shuts all wifi and data. I disable it and then turn on either wifi or data when I need to use it (Use Switchpro to toggle on and off easily from my home screen). I also the free Advanced Task Killer with only ATK and Juice Defender running. In 12 hours of using the phone a few times, texts, and even surfing the web, and watching 20 mins of video I still have about 80%. It makes a big difference.
I just make sure to use my ATK before I turn the screen off on my phone.
Oh yeah I also rooted my phone and removed all bloatware.
Well, when I had a G2x, it wasn't too bad at the start, but after I tried the HDMI output, the battery life went to hell in a heartbeat, i.e. full to dead within 8 hours with no network connectivity, and the phone always using the battery even when off. I think the HDMI output got shorted somehow to always on, and thus never stopped drawing power for nothing. Besides, my G2 was never anywhere near as bad as the G2x in power usage, even back at stock unrooted Froyo, so to give a blanket statement of "all Android phones suck down batteries like nothing" is simply an over-generalization.

im not saying all android phones batteries suck..... but take into consideration what these phones are doing.... and you cant really compare the G2x to any other android phone except the Atrix and o2X because its a dual core...... so comparing it to a galaxy s 4G or a nexus s isnt really giving this phone the credit it deserves

I have the answer
*** TO GET STRAIGHT TO THE POINT, SKIP TO THE BOTTOM BOLD POINTS****
*** READ ENTIRE THING TO GET DETAILS AND COMMENTARY, I TALK TOO MUCH****
All:
I've always had Motorola Droid phones. They have excellent battery out of the box, but I truly bumped it up with a few steps.
First off if I buy a phone that has GPS, WIFI, Bluetooth, etc. I plan to keep those functions ON and running ALL THE TIME as I don't want to get in my car and say, ohh yeah let me renable bluetooth etc. No, that's now how I operate. So all the tips below greatly extended battery life without disabling functionality. I do however disable autostarting of apps like Skype, Fring, and Qik. I mean let's face it how often is someone video calling you randomly?
This phones are turning into computers, think about how long it takes to install windows, load all your applications, configure and tweak your settings, register your software etc etc. But just like the more apps you install in Windows the more sh1t wants to autostart when you boot into Windows and load up your task tray (taking resources) is the same way the phones are working.
I recently returned a G2X, not for battery life but for other reasons. I actually was able to improve the battery life using the methods below.
First off, everyone always talks about a task killer. This is a must have. BUUUUT! You have to use it properly and this isn't the main thing that will help you save your battery.
Another must have but NEVER talked about app is AUTOSTARTS. **Root Required**
Autostarts let's you disable items that always enable themselves on certain actions. For example, why does an app you killed relaunch itself randomly? Why does it load on start up? Well autostarts let's you see all apps set to load on startup, also when certain criteria is met. For example, some apps are set to start on "click" of a button for example.
Autostarts let's you disable those apps from EVER starting unless you specifically start it. Let's face it, most apps we download only need to be used when we launch it.
Task killer let's you kill unnecessary apps running in the background, or an app you're down with that you want to kill versus it running in the background using CPU cycles and battery life.
THE KEY IS, YOU MUST NOT KILL OR DISABLE A SYSTEM SERVICE. Most system services are obvious GMAIL, CORP EMAIL, BLUETOOTH SERVICE, WIFI SVC, GOOGLE SERVICES, AT&T/VERIZON/T-Mobile/SPRINT (etc) SERVICES (with the exception of bloatware services).
Task killer will let you see what's running, and place certain items on the IGNORE list so you don't accidentally disable it in the future. Then you need to set your options in task killer to HIDE IGNORED items to further take it from your view.
Those are the first steps. I don't know why AUTOSTARTS isn't more popular. For you computer geeks, it's like MSCONFIG in windows where you disable services that load automatically for no reason.
Also believe it or not WIFI seems to use much less power than AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint's 4G network. And let's face it, neither of the aforementioned carriers are really giving us much with their 4G. Wifi still beats them in speeds, and of course Verizon LTE sh1ts on them. So keep your WIFI on when in an WIFI area like home, work, etc. You'd be amazed at just how much battery life that alone can save.
Next, I followed the steps below taken from another thread started by spencersir2, many of the steps I had never done before on previous phones, but I did on a G2X and Atrix and it actually did help even further. I only listed the steps I used that helped, he recommended installing a lot of other software that in my opinion only adds to the problem.
All the steps work for any Android phone, but some of the steps are specific to T-Mobile (i.e. wifi calling option)
Root The Phone. There is plenty of links and help if you don't know how or have questions about rooting.
(Root Needed) Set CPUand it does nothing but save battery. I currently have it set on 216 - 1000 for when the screen is on and the only profile i have is for when the screen is off and it is at 216-216.
(Root Needed) Battery Calibration. I'm still skeptical if this helped but it can't hurt. Because I did everything at once, I didn't individually test this to see if it made a difference. It doesn't hurt so just do it.
Wifi Never sleep. Supposedly according to some if you change wifi to Never Sleep it will stop some loop in the programing which in turn will save battery. - TRY AND SEE IF THIS HELPS, I THINK IT DOES HELP THE G2X NOT SURE IF IT HELPS OTHER ANDROID PHONES
T-Mobile specific - Wifi Calling. If you didn't decide to freeze/uninstall this app. Make sure that this is OFF, because whenever you have wifi on it will constantly flip between Wifi Calling and normal radio towers, which once again is bad for your battery life.
RECAP:
- Root Phone
-Download SetCPU from market. G2X users, select NVIDIA Tegra 2 at launch of app. Other users select one best appropriate for your device. Create a profile that says SCREEN OFF MIN=216 MAX=216. You may need to adjust the max to wake phone up faster depending on your phone. You shouldn't need to bump the max up to more than 400 something. This only reduces CPU speed when screen is off. Helps with battery!
- Download Autostarts from market, look at all that's running under each column, disable anything you don't need to autostart
- Download Taskiller (it's the red guy, not the green one). Hide system services by long pressing on icon, then select IGNORE. Then go to options and say HIDE IGNORED ITEMS. This so you don't KILL an important system app. (Read above for details on what is a system app)
- Use WiFi whenever possible. Uses much less power than 4G. Not sure about 3G but 4G is a battery killer. If you have Wifi, use it. It's faster anyway.
- Change Wifi settings to never sleep (test for a day see if helps or not, if not change it back to default setting). It helped G2X not sure if it helps other Android phones.
- Disable Wifi Calling (T-Mobile only)
- Download battery calibration from market, not sure if it helps but it def didn't hurt anything. and it's very simple.
I've tried all the tricks listed before (freezing apps, doing the secret menu, etc), and still had TERRIBLE battery life. I tried installing an app (switch pro), and had a toggle switch for data on and off thinking it might help. It helped just slightly. What did work, was putting a 2g-4g toggle switch on, and it has made a night and day difference. This, and I used the battery calibration program a few times, and in clockwork. Normally, I wake up at 6:30am and by the time it's 4pm I was normally down to 35ish %. Now, I'm at around 85% when I leave work. I'm thinking it has to do with the 2g, but it doesn't make sense that when I toggled data off, I got terrible battery, and just switching to 2g makes that big of a difference. Either way, I'm SUPER happy with battery life now.
i really have to question people saying they get 20+ hours of battery life, i mean if i stop all sync, disconnect 4g and only use 2g, not use the internet, shut off wifi, no bluetooth and do all the tricks that people have suggested. I still don't get a full day's use. but what the H is the point of having a super phone that i can't use it's functions i might as well get a clam shell phone that lasts 3 days without charging. I really like this phone but at this point the battery life is killing me i have to take like 3 different chargers everywhere i go!!

I don't see how you guys are still having battery problems. One a full charge, i'm able to get at least 12+ hrs with moderate to heavy use. Facebook and 3 email sync is set at 1 hr. About 100+ text and 10 emails a day. Wifi is on the whole time. Wifi calling as well. My screen brightness is set to auto. GPS is also always on.
I have to admit, the first few days, the battery life was about the same as my hd2 running android, but its gotten better now and its amazing.
Solution: buy a new battery.
I was wondering if there are any good battery savers for the samsung infuse4G. i have the cpu tuner and not 100% sure how to use it. i have downloaded a half a dozen task manager/killers from the market. as of now i have "advanced task manager" killing every 5 min. i have some apps ignored. on the cpu tuner i messed around with it last night and got all things working fully on it. now it says everything but the power save and performance working. if there is anyone that uses this please let me know exactly how to use it. still a little confused about some settings. and if there is anything else i could try, let me know, and how to use it. Also i am currently on a different rom "bionix 1.2" i have Bluetooth and WiFi and all that normally off. the brightness is lower than 10 % all the time.
First, you posted this in the wrong section. Should be in general.
Second, setting your task manager to auto kill apps will decrease your battery life. On older versions of Android it may have helped, but on Froyo and newer some apps are loaded automatically in the background so they can open quicker when you access them or so they can receive notifications. These apps that are loaded in the background generally aren't doing anything at all and thus aren't using any extra battery. If you set your task manager to automatically kill them they will just keep loading, being killed, loading, being killed, etc., which DOES drain your battery.

This is what I do and may or may not matter but I get great results. Before I flash a ROM, I make sure my battery is charged to 100%. Once you are done flashing the ROM, calibrate the battery by:
- Charge to 100% turned on. Wait for the beep and notification that it is fully charged.
- Unplug and turn the phone off. Once off, plug in and let charge until you see 100% on the screen.
- Unplug again and turn the phone on. Once fully loaded, plug in and charge 100% again.
- Power down into recovery and delete Battery Stats under Advanced menu then reboot.
- Power on and charge to 100% again.
Usually it takes a few days for the battery to settle in but following these instructions, I get instant results.

I just did this. I have the infuse tomm with community voodoo and the battery goes from 100 to 60 in 2 hours with moderate use. I am a heavy tester and the brightness is almost 0 I'm not sure what I am doing wrong
Sorry I was on a phone when I typed that. Meant to say. I have the infuse the rom and I am a heavy texter. Have the brightness on almost 0 and I have CPU tuner going and task manager killing everything except 6 things every 5 min and when the screen is off. I can't figure out why my batter is dying so fast. Like it'll die with moderate use for around 5 hours. even if I have the screen off it'll die. I have some apps frozen with this bloat freezer.

Did you read post #2 here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14885241&postcount=2 Auto killing some apps will drain your battery faster than leaving them running. I didn't know this until now. So I have deleted all taskmanager apps I was trying and will only use JD without any task killing functions enabled.
I only use Advanced Task Killer to manually kill tasks. I also am careful not to install tons of stuff at once - that way if I get a "bad app" that eats battery I've got a good guess what the culprit is.
The autobrightness/swipe-brightness trick works great.
Kill WiFi if you're not using it.
The new Infusion undervolt kernel is awesome. One day I was at 50% at the end of a work day (admittedly WiFi was turned on but not in use for a good portion of that), the next day I was at 79% at the end of the day. (WiFi turned off + Infusion kernel set to undervolt with no overclocking.)

Ohh OK. So don't have any task manager; task killers at all? I just figured I would need to have all those apps killed so. I had it backwards. So should I have anything to help the batteRy?

Wrong. Google did nothing to disable them, they just reduced the need for them and the effectiveness of them against many apps.
However, some apps just need a good killing when you're done with them, like Facebook. Facebook seems to inhibit a lot of power management functions from working properly... On my old device (AT&T Tilt2 running XDAndroid), Facebook was the #1 culprit as far as wakelocking a device.
However, as I said - autokillers are BAD, and randomly killing stuff unless you KNOW it's a pesky app can be bad.
use setcpu for profiles, e.g. screen off 100mhz - 200mhz with 100% priority.
running Infused 1.5 with Infusion 1.5 kernel (note that the UV in Infusion 1.5 is broken atm)
screen on auto
wifi/data on 24/7
made couple phone calls
navigation used for ~30 min
online surfing facebook/banking
work e-mail refresh every 5min from 7pm to 10am.
15% after 29hrs use. (is that good?)

No, you are, as evidenced by you linking to an article that is almost a year old without checking to see if anything had changed since it was published. Advanced Task Killer is more than capable of killing apps - Google may have disabled it temporarily last August but it's been working since March of this year at least (That's when I first got a Froyo device). As I stated - some apps (like the Music app) are set up so they auto-respawn when killed, but they CAN be killed (However, autokilling them is going to eat your battery). A number of apps also do NOT auto-respawn, as I said before, Facebook is one example, and it's an example of an app that is notorious for eating battery and needing a task killer to take care of it.
Now the way sleep and power management works on our Infuse might mean Facebook is less problematic on our devices, but in the case of XDAndroid builds on MSM devices, the Facebook app clearly would prevent the device from entering deep sleep in a timely manner, causing it to eat battery like crazy. Killing it with Advanced Task Killer would fix the problem.
Edit: As another example, it can also kill the Browser process successfully, which is great for when the Browser process gets wacked out. I haven't had any issues with the Browser on the Infuse, but it could easily make the whole system extremely sluggish on XDAndroid Froyo builds.
I896, Rooted, factory Gingerbread.
I have a Captivate and a Tab. Both Wifi only, no Sims, Airplane mode on, Bluetooth off. Machines are on but screen is off. The Tab looses 3% over the course of the morning and the Captivate looses 20%!
I'm running regular 'power user' type apps; Titanium Backup, Tasker, LauncherPro. If there are any apps notorious for secret batt consumption, let me know what to avoid.
Running SystemPanel Lite - I can't see any app that is taking up more CPU time than normal that would explain this kind of drain. The battery page shows a good proportion of battery use display and wifi. In one instance I used the Captivate so little that display showed less use than wifi. In the course of just checking phone power consumption, the display use percent way up, just like expected (Just to show that wifi was really doing almost nothing) and still I had lost more than 15% of battery over the time when the phone was supposedly idle, not connected to anything with the screen off. Some ghost is sucking the life out of my battery. Grrrr. What could it be?
I loose 30% in a night with wifi off, backlight set to absolute min and nothing runninng or syncing.
I don't get it. Any ideas? What do I try next?

His tab is running Android too.
If you don't have anything helpful (or knowledgeable) to say don't say anything.
Op, download watchdog from the market, (system panel is kinda ..meh.) and see if there us a rogue app munching battery.
You may consider flashing a ROM see if its just that firmware/kernel reacting to your phone.
Have you tried Juice Defender?
Also, check to make sure you don't have applications constantly running. What version of android are you running? Check in system settings -> status -> somewhere in here you can check the battery status and what applications are pulling the most juice ... From there if one application needs to be removed you can action it ...
Also try the "Battery Calibration" app in the market. It's free.

my captivate running cm7 STOCK will drain down to 20% from being idle for 12 hours
my battery will also drain 30% from 45 mins of wifi only use.
doesnt help him but thats my experience from my captivate
Menu -> Settings -> Wireless and Networking -> Wi-Fi settinngs -> Menu -> Advanced -> Wi-Fi sleep policy
Set it to when screen turns off.
We have to switch that every time we flash. I really wish it was default. Some ROMs also have background data control, but it's usually when wi-fi is on so it shouldn't be a problem.

You do know that cm7 doesn't have the proper hardware drivers from Samsung so the battery life is known to be HORRIBLE right? If not you should really read up on the ROM you're using
Flash any touchwiz ROM, especially a native I897 build and you will see a dramatic increase in battery life.

I'm on CM7 and am going on 27 hours with moderate usage.. Granted, I have the 1800 mah battery from the Sprint Galaxy S2
trying flashing to pinnacle. I too have battled weird captivate drain issues.
if you wanna try CM, read my thread:

I've held off replying as I was trying a few things and figured I would report only once I was done.
I found and ran Battery Calibration, just before I read the post. Between that and turning Wifi sleep policy to off with screen off, I had a great weekend. I was getting a day and a half out of my phone, which considering the use, was very acceptable. I was getting about the same drain as my Tab. I had 1% battery drain after 4 hrs of screen off time. That seemed fine for me.
I got back to school where I teach and yesterday the phone drained as fast as it has before. Interestingly, it continued its rapid drain even after I left the school and went back home. So, it died at 4am this morning. I heard it shut down. The school has at least 4 routers, two of which have 5k access options. I know if I choose them, my laptop drains way faster. Is there a way to limit my wifi connection on the captivate and not use the faster 5k connection?
But, this still doesn't explain why, even after I leave the school, the Captivate continues to drain when it is 10ft from a single 100mb wifi router.
I'm almost ready to try a custom Rom, but not sure how that will affect my ability to use it as a phone, once I get my Sim activated. Still new to this all.
You think everyone running a custom ROM doesn't use the phone?
Shouldn't affect your ability to do anything...
The WiFi and cell radio do increase power on lower signal as we know, but that's not always the cause of drain. I remember times using Froyo when kswapd goes nuts for no reason, or trillian, email, twitter or some other app just starts using massive CPU. Many apps are probably never tested on a system that has no connection most of the time. That's where all the utilities come in handy to find the culpret. OSMonitor can help find CPU hogs. TiBu can freeze apps, or uninstall them temporarily. Juice Plotter can monitor drain over time (newer Androids have something like it built-in). It takes some time to find it, but newer versions of the OS make it easier and have less trouble.
Also the battery % is only estimated. I'd trust full to empty time rather than 90% to 80% time as 10% use since it's not really as linear as we think.
Not to point out the obvious, but it can be the battery itself that has the problem. They aren't exactly manufactured to NASA standards... well, maybe their standards lately, but the point is, sometimes the ghost you're chasing is staring you right in the face.
Maybe this is due to my lack of experience, but maybe not. It seems like every time I put a new ROM on my phone it goes to hell in about a month. I'm not a technician but I can follow directions for installation, patches, etc. So far I have had 0 long term success in installing a ROM that ends up being any better than stock after 30-60 days.
For example, I've had issues with battery drain, random booting while the phone is powered off, redraw issues, serious lag, data connectivity issues, and a few other things. It seems like its always something.
The only phones I've toyed with are my old Eris and my Charge. Is this a phone issue, noob issue, or is this par for the course? If it is par I'll end up back at stock and have mediocre performance rather than have a buzz saw that ends up needing constant tweaking and maintenance.
Btw this isn't a knock on developers. I appreciate them sharing all their hard work. I just want to know if everybody else goes through this or am I holding a bag of stupid.
Just rooting does nothing more than give you superuser access. It doesn't even do anything that uses the root specifically. Different roms do different things, but nothing to use battery...mostly they take things out rather than put things in.
Best thing to do is look at BetterBatteryStats and track partial wakelocks. That will tell you what is waking up your system and if there's anything spiking it, you can deal with it. Most of what really drains battery on this phone, other than bad apps, is somewhat random, and it will affect non-rooted phones just as much as rooted.
Must be something you did, picking a good rom make a big different. In my case. I flashed tweakstock to my daughter's phone since the first day it released (with tweakstock kernel), and never, I repeat never have any issue, when tweakstock 1.4 released, this is the second time I touch her phone and up until now she hasn't have any issue. If you use eclipse rom, PBJ kernel, Imonsey kernel, you're going to have issue. They are not bad roms or kernels, but they do have bugs. This is my experience.
Yeah, I think it's you. On stock, I'll be lucky to get 12 hours usage in a low signal environment. On a custom ROM, with custom kernel, I'll make it through the day. Of course, I've had a couple of random total crashes where I had to go at it again, but I deal with it.
PROTIP: the Facebook app needs to be told to stfu constantly. I would get an app like System so you can kill it easily-it still stays in RAM and in wakelock, taking clock cycles, even if you close it by backing out. I found that this was one of the best battery savers.

Yes, I agreed with kvswim, Facebook is a big battery drainer, I ended up using the browser for facebook, it's not as nice as the FB app, but once you get a hang of it. It's fine. I suggest if you want trouble free, ODIN pit file and original factory image, then upgrade to tweakstock with tweakstock kernel, then install Go launcher for smoothness. To save battery even more install battery saver by Antutu.(keep all default settings, don't play with it). You will see big improvement with both battery and smooth trouble free phone.

you really find a battery saver to be helpful. Every time i try one it ends up costing me more battery life than it saves.
As for the phone issues. Are you wiping data, cache, and dalvik before you flash? Not doing so can really muck things up. And a lot of times its just an annoying app that sucks up all ur juice, ie words with friends and facebook. I use them alot so I deal, but u can definitely tell the difference when u dont have those apps installed.

Hey. how about give the "battery saver" app by Antutu a try. This is one of the kind. It does not kill processes like others. It actually readjust cpu frequency during usage and put your phone in heavy deep sleep, after installed, let it run for 2 days, you will notice at least 3-4 hrs more during usage and 10+ if you let your phone sleep. I have test this app with wifi,4g,gps on 24/7 and I still have good battery life.
I downloaded betterbatterysaver to check my stats. Now to figure out how to read the data. Any suggestions? I've searched Google and it seems to be a mystery for many. It appears that Dolphin HD is using most, but I kill the program when I'm done???? I switched to mini and froze HD to troubleshooting. I only use FB browser too. I ditched the app long time ago.
Before I flash I wipe dalvik cache, data, and then wipe it again. I follow directions closely since I can't figure my way out if something goes wrong. I'm running tweakstock's latest right now and I'm really enjoying it. Very stable and snappy. However, the battery problem is killing the experience. It drained fro. 69% to dead in 6 hours overnight! Switched from 1.1 because the phone got very laggy and the hand off between 3-4g was getting dropped and I was losing data connection.
I will try the battery saver app. Just got battery calibrated and still not any better. My need to have a phone that doesn't suck will keep me playing with this thing until I get it right. My Charge is used so much it's like my third hand.

Did you try to disable(freeze) SDM app and also Google service? May need to backup all your apps and do a factory/data reset, If not help, possible to re ODIN factory image (see pos # 5) since you have data drop issue. Some thing is mess up in your OS.
For betterbatterystats look at wakelock and see what process used the most.
If it died overnight then something is definitely eating your battery. Are you in a low signal environment? Go to settings, about phone, then battery usage. If anything besides display is taking more than around 5-10% (can be more if you use it a lot) then that's your main problem. If your cell standby is more than 25% it's the low signal that's killing the battery.
Sent from my SCH-I510 using xda premium
Data is up and running smooth after flashing newest tweakstock. My home has a strong signal and my bedroom is sometimes 4G so I don't believe the signal was low, unless the transition between radios killed it. However, it wasn't a problem 3 weeks ago.
I did freeze SDM and noticed some improvement. Buhohitr, did you mean freeze Google services framework?
Battery usage seems to be normal for now. I am noticing Dolphin is no Singer sucking down 35% or more since I switched to Mini. It doesn't even show up on the list.
I'll see how it goes today and report back on wakelocks. If it doesn't get any Beyer ima Odin to stock and root/flash tweakstock again.
Also, the battery doesn't drain unusually fast wile in use, browsing, music, etc. But when it sits it drains at 3-4% an hour.
I would try manually calibrating your battery. It really worked for me. On average I get about 18-19 hours on one charge with medium to heavy data usage throughout the day. There is a thread in the General section.. I'll post a link in a little bit.

Wiping battery stats is a complete placebo. All the battery stats stores is the state of apps as related to various things that affect battery life (like display on time, screen brightness over time, and wakelock states). It does nothing that will actually affect your battery life one iota. It is actually cleared every time you charge your battery to 100%, so manually wiping it is completely pointless.

I'm well aware of the post of Dianne Hackborn debunking the myth of wiping the battery stats; however, if you actually read the post on the steps to calibrating your battery, it's not just wiping your battery stats. There's actually a few more steps involved. You're right though, if you just wipe the battery stats and expect better battery life you're just wasting your time.

To disable Google Service, go to settings -> location&security and uncheck Google service. Do not freeze Google framework. Also seems like your phone is not in deep sleep, please install "battery saver" by Antutu and let it works for 24 hrs, you should see huge different when your phone is sleeping. BTW what kernel are you using? If you're using PBJ kernel you can install "CPU tuner" to further keep your phone in deep sleep. I'm talking about 1% for 3 hrs sleeping.
I'm curious as to what Battery Saver actually does. The app's market page doesn't say. I'd be curious if it would interfere with my IMAP push email or SetCPU's overclock settings.

I've done that and never seen an actual difference. Like I said before, I have no reason to believe that any of it is anything other than placebo. My normal daily variability in use is more than enough to account for any perceived differences. On top of it all, bump charging is not good for a Li-Ion battery, so if anything, those instructions are a good example of how to lose long-term battery life for short term gain.

Personally, I believe that most of the time the procedure does nothing. I think there are times, though, that corrupt data gets into the battery stats. For instance, I had an app lock up my phone and force a hard boot. When the phone came back up, it showed 22% more battery than it had previously. I believe that bad data such as this can over time affect how Android reads your battery life. In that instance, I believe clearing battery stats would help. I don't think doing it just because a new ROM was flashed actually does anything, though.
My tablet uses waaay to much power when its in standby or off. I use my note 10.1 intermittently, so this is frustrating. I cant help but notice that my daughters ipad can last a week on standby with virtually no consumption, but my note will die after a day a nd a half of doing nothing.
Ive already shut off wifi when in standby, anything else?
get rid of bloatware by rooting your device if you are up for it, bloatware is the main problem for battery drain, also use the power saver option in the settings and make sure the brightness is not on to high, my note last around 3 days on standby so there is something definitely draining your battery.
I'm not rooted and can still get about 3 full days if I'm not using it that much. You can just disable some of the bloatware, but rooting will allow you to remove all of it. If you go to -settings-application manager-all- it'll list all the apps on your phone. If you click on an app you can sometimes disable it. I, for instance disabled, "Google Music, as well as some of the samsung media apps" because I don't use them, but they were still using some of my mobile data.
I also use Juice defender ultimate to regulate wifi when the tab is sleeping. You can adjust how often the tablet will turn on the wifi to sync, then keep it off for the remainder of the time the screen it off. I also have it set to turn on wifi as soon as the screen turns on.
If you go to -settings-battery- you can see the percent that each app is consuming over any time period.
Also if you have a lot of widgets that need to constantly update that may also be part of the problem. While individual widgets are fine, when you have a lot it starts to add up.
You can also get "Wakelock" which tells you what apps are waking your tablet, and "watchdog task manager" to tell you if a particular app is out of control. These two apps will only tell you if a particular app(s) are contributing to the problem not fix it.
If the note is off, which I don't normally do, it'll last about 5-6days. There are a lot of other battery saving tips, but most of those are for when the screen is on.
It's funny, I always hear different things when comparing iWhatever to Androidwhatever, as far as battery life. I hear it both ways from people who have used both. I think with Android it's really dependent on what you have installed, where as with the iPad/iPhone it's more consistent.
One of the things I noticed with people switching for Apple to Android is that with Android you really need to install apps to get it work the way you want it to. With Apple it's ready to go out the the box, but you are forced to do it the way they feel is the correct way to do things. With Android you can get a more customized experience but you have to find the app that will do it through research, and trial and error.
Battery drain when off = hardware fault .

Not normal. Are uou running stock . Any strange stuff running in background. check in settings what is using your battery.
That's not normal at all. My tab has been on connected to wifi for over 3 days and is at 72% remaining. Root, install collective v6, then use better battery stats from the play store and monitor your applications. You probably have a few things like news apps auto refreshkng every 15 min or half hour. Make sure that all apps that have a sync option are set to like 6 hour intervals.
Not much Use over the past Couple days, just my game for a bit And some e-mail but this is what you should be at with light use and mainly stand by. I don't use juice Defender, Or any thing that turns off my wifi / GPs / Bluetooth. Power save is off because it disables the IR Remote app. Auto- Bright, and s-Pen is Always On because I have 3 of them SO I Dont always remove my pen.

Bollocks. So-called "Bloatware" almost certainly has NOTHING to do with this. Other than my kernel, I only run Stock ROMs and no apps I don't actively use ever show up on the battery stats.
Rooting, however, will allow you to run "Better Battery Stats", which will allow you to figure out what app is either preventing wakelocks from letting your device go into "Deep Sleep" mode, or waking it up enough that the drain is kiling your battery.
Also, depending on the AP you're running at home, the "beacons" it sends may be waking up the WiFi stack on your Note all the time- I had this problem with a D-Link AP once. (My custom kernels (search for 'em, once you decide to root) have minimized this problem, BTW.)
One other thing to consider if you have a 3G/LTE version is the radio- not only is it always drawing, but in low-signal areas it will positively murder your battery as it spends a lot of power telling the cell stations where it is.

Reset, if still does it then take back or send for repair.
Mine is stock no root and full of,"bloatware". It will standby over a week or more, and runs on net probably 10 hours. No differnt rom is going to fix your problem.
Lolol my note sits there for weeks at a time on standby and when i pick it up weeks later, it still has 30-50% left...
Bloatware.. Or aliens.. Are causing your battery drain
