My girlfriend dropped her vibrant into the toilet, tripped all visible water sensors, had the battery put back in it after an hour (emergency situation needed her phone). Battery was left out for another 5-6 hours, phone glitched around and did crazy **** for another day. Battery put back in following day and it worked fine like nothing ever happened.
Did you try holding VOL UP/DOWN and Power? ....JK that sucks though

It was in the water for a second, completely dry now. It boots perfectly. Gets receptions great. Works fine. Except the touchscreen is busted and the volume buttons are wrecked.

If he was quick to remove battery in 3 seconds, otherwise even 2 weeks wont help.
Besides, it went into a toilet.
Time to get the SGS2.

edit: just a thought, a jig might work (it looks like it can scrape well with the usb plug end of it)
The circuit board must have been shorted, thats why the buttons or the screen dont work. Jig cant help.

Fun fact: Last I checked (about four years ago), toilet incursion was the number one cause of premature phone death.

Help! I took the phone out of my pocket and it won't turn on. Tried pulling the battery. Plugging into wall charger does not light up the LED. Tried holding down power button, holding down volume button and then press power button. No response... Any other suggestions?
Has my phone died? I only got it on Friday, and is all stock. Have not rooted, never dropped or wet the phone. This is not good.
At least it's brand new and you can get another. Sorry man
Take it back and get a replacement

Yeah, I might have to take it back for replacement. This is not good... I hope it's just an isolated incident. Usually with an iPhone or Captivate, pretty easy to reset and bring back to life... Now I'd be scared to root and flash ROMs in the future if so easy to die.
Was your phone rooted? What Rom did you install?

Any new phone would be covered in the OP's case as it's within the return window and warranted by the mfgr. Insurance wouldn't need to be used.
Strange, hope it doesn't happen again!
i haven't had any issues with mine. sounds like a defective product from the box. glad you got it taken care of.

My girlfriend bought this phone last night after i hyped it up cuz i have the evo. Anyway she got it home let it fully charge we went to use it and the screen wouldn't come on but if you held it to the light you could see all the capacitve dots (don't know if thats what they are) in the screen and you could see the clock and icons almost as if the screen was on without the backlight. so we had to pull the battery it worked for a about 15 minutes while i showed her stuff and when i went to log into the market i got a "force close" error and the htc splash screen came up and then it kinda did an awkward boot loop thing. it wouldnt stop so i pulled the battery again and now it is dead just like the OP phone no charging lights anything. i've read around the net a little bit and it don't sound like an isolated thing. i'm taking her phone back today but i don't know if i should have her stay with that htc or go toward the xperia that she was eye-ing up. sorry for the 5 page story
So the phone survived my drunk escapades last night, what it did not survive was the ride back out of now where the phone shut off and i carry a car charger with me everywhere cause i use the phone so i plugged it in (the phone had 20%) and nothing, i was like eh il plug it in when i get home so an hour later i reached 5 am, plugged it in woke up to the same thing . . . phone still dead no response what so ever took the battery out multiple times tried starting without battery in and just charger but nothing so im about to take it back to t mobile and just get another one =/ this one barley had a bleed or anything too if i get a worse one imma be so down =/ idk if i should get another one or not
Of course if its not working get another one.
Would you rather have a good condition, working phone or a perfect condition paper weight?

So the other day i got water on my phone and some of it got inside of the screen, so i quickly dried it off and thru my phone with the sim card and battery in bag of rice. Its been 2 days ive come back and all the water in the screen is gone!! But i got an error "UIDS on the system are inconsistent, Please wipe device or it will be unstable" So i went ahead and wiped.
My question to you is ...Do you think i will have problems down the road with this phone.

Honestly water and phones never mix. It's hard to tell if you will have future issues but if you had one complication due to damage generally more arise. If everything is working great then I wouldn't worry too much.

To be very honest, its running super smooth but when i put it on standby the LEDs under the screen sometimes stay on. They dont light up the screen but they do light up the Touch hard keys. Its alittle annoying but better then a 100$ refurb and another hour of rooting =)
You should be ok. I got wonton soup in my XV6800 once then soaked it in alcohol for a couple of hours then let it fully dry for a day, and it still works as good as the day I bought it.

are you for certain that its toast? I ran a test when I first got my first mytouch and had it in a sinkful of water for 45 mins. gave it a good shake to get most of the water out, then I just let it sit on my desk for about 2-3 days. after the 3rd day, I went to put my battery back in and it booted right up, no lag or loss in performance, no water under the screen. everything worked fine...dont give up hope yet!

If it doesn't power on tomorrow when I get home I'll give it away for the cost of shipping. Probably $5 states side.
Similar experience. However, it was an incredible and after 1 week in rice would not boot. Then, the phone was worth a ton just as a wifi browser/app device. So, I took it apart completely, removing the heat spreader metal plates and all. After sitting on my desk dismantled for about 2 weeks, I had it up and running apps, wifi, web, 3d games. It let me play on a device so I didn't use my actual phone's battery so much.
I've done this with a couple different smart phones (chocolate 2, iPhone). It seems to me, water doesn't pose a serious threat to these devices. If you can get the water out without electrically shorting the device in a damaging way, it's going to be usable eventually... I mean the Incredible didn't just go swimming, it was submerged in a glass of pop and went unnoticed until someone called and it rang quite bizarrely and then shut off. I call them Comaphones.
Well, after sitting for a week, same thing. Put the battery in and the Camera LED flashes for a second. Press the power butting and it vibrates like it's booting up but nothing on the display. I'll leave it in rice for another week.
In the mean time I'm enjoying my new Sensation. Very nice and sleek. Just need root now!
Poor MT4G, its a great phone. Enjoy your new Sensation, I have mixed feelings about mine.

They will replace it for you, just tell them that one of the buttons is no longer working. It's a warranty replacement, I had to get mine replaced because the vol- button wasn't even a button anymore and had to be jammed in to be "pressed".
I use the silicone case, so I don't have a problem with the button...

It really seems to be hit or miss. My first thunderbolt's buttons sucked. This one is great. I dropped mine in the **** bowl... :-(
Just replaced mine today for the same reason. It was that way out of the box. I checked everything on this one to make sure it was up to par before I walked out of the store this time. Every phone has its quirks, any one who says otherwise is jaded..
I kinda feel like an idiot for being so picky but I do have the warranty. I called on the phone and they said I had to go into the store. Guess it cant hurt to try atleast its under warranty until feb. of next year.
Mine is also "depressed" lol when they replaced it, did they give you a CLNR or a brand New tbolt?

Seriously?? I'm unrooting right now to send mine back. It takes all of 10 minutes. No slower than flashing ROMs.
It's a hardware defect 99.9% of the time. You're foolish to not take advantage of warranty replacement while you have it. Come on, man!!

Call them up and tell them that it only works if you press it in with a pen, or if you basically use all your strength just to get it to register as a "push". You shouldn't have to do anything extra just to get your phone to turn on. They tell you to go to the store because they were some lazy ass rep who didn't want to do anything. Just call back, politely explain that it's almost impossible to turn your phone on because of the power button situation (throw in some good acting skills too), and that you would like a replacement as the phone is still under warranty. If they say no, ask to speak to a supervisor, explain again, and they will replace it for you.
Ok new phone on its way. He also said a new software update was coming today(lol). They are really limiting the time you used to have for returning the phone. Used to be 15 days I think and now down to 5 days.
They dont use fed ex they used usps hmm never seen that. Well the one I got was just as bad as the one I sent it so they are sending another one. I used to be able to use my case with it but these refurbs suck.
