QuickOffice HD - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So where is the app that's supposed to come with the xoom to make it business ready?
I can open up word documents in QO but how do I create a new document, or have we been short changed with this app?
Sent from my MZ601 using XDA Premium App

Well I don't know about being short changed but the Quickoffice HD that comes with the Xoom is just a reader. You would have to purchase the full version from the market in order to create docs. I did and I love it

+1. I bought the full version too

Well, i was in a hurry and i bought the full version also, just to find out it doesn't support table editing in word. i cannot delete a row or a column only the data is editable.
If you are looking to fix a table on word document on the fly, this is not the app for you. You cannot edit a table period!!!

I posted a pretty in-depth comparison of the main competitors in the office app sector here. All suites have major fallbacks and you really need to see what you need to get the "best".

Thank you. This is amazingly, fantastically awesome. I've been wondering about this for ages.
I have stickied your comparison thread.

Desire PDF Viewer on N1 ROM?

I've been trying to get Desire's PDF Viewer to work on a N1 ROM (CM 5.0.5.3) with no luck.
I can start the app but get FC when trying to open a pdf-file.
I pushed the following files:
/system/app/FilePicker.apk
/system/app/PDFViewer.apk
/system/lib/libpdfreader.so
(been trying to install the PDFView.apk separate too)
Did I miss a/some file(s) or do you think it will require more than just pushing some files?
Why bother? Quickoffice (which you can pull out of any of the Modaco custom roms, even the prebaked ones) will handle PDFs and most other text based files
Well Quickoffice kinda suck cause it doesn't always show everthing in a pdf-file (think it converts it to some web format? )
And I want the pinch-to-zoom function ;P
IMO you're better served just using QuickOffice, it should render them out just fine unless they were saved with the "adobe compression scheme and not just optimized. then you'll get odd rendering. As for pinch, I believe theres a mod for that if I'm not mistaken.
Well that might be true, but I can't decide how others save their documents. Several times I haven't been able to view the whole content. For example when I download the timetable for the buss line I can't see the days and where the buss stops - which is kinda worthless.
But my topic isn't about how well QuickOffice works or not, but how to make PDF View from Desire to work on a N1 ROM.

Please stop posting. It's EXTREMELY frustrating when someone makes a thread and other people try to talk them out of it.
Anyway, on topic, QuickOffice sucks ass. It pixelates the crap out of files when you zoom in. The Desire ROM PDF viewer is the ONLY PDF viewer available for Android that doesn't completely destroy PDF files when zooming in. (And that is including the half dozen PDF viewers on the Market).
Unfortunately no, you cannot export the PDF viewer from Desire onto Stock ROM.

Really? Well, excuse me for offering an alternative and my opinion. I didn't realized that you were such a prick and that user here weren't allowed to express their thoughts. I'm not trying to "talk him out of it", merely saying, that there is an alternative that will do more, and arguably works just fine with standard files. If you want to know whats more frustrating, its morons like you, who think that they can boss people around. I've probably been involved in more "hacking" and "modding" arena's than you can even think of, and I don't need some self-absorbed narcissist to tell me I'm not allowed to share my thoughts on an open board. So, please, stop posting your stupid derogatory thoughts, which are less than helpful and spurious to say the least.
PS. I don't know what you're doing with QuickOffice, but theres no pixelation or defects for me on any file. Perhaps you should try getting your head out of your bum, that might clear the images on the screen up for you. Also, your comment about QO is offtopic if you bothered reading the post right above yours, and not on topic

Sucks to hear that :/ How come?
Then I guess I have to live with BeamReader, at least I've been able to view the full content of all pdf-files I've tried so far with it.

I have to say (not trying to flame) but I am going to have to agree with Paul on this one. So many times people start a thread such as this one and no where did the guy ask "could you please give me a list of alternative apps I could use" he is strictly wanting to discuss this app and how to get it working on a different rom.
I assure you he knows there are other apps to open PDF files, that was not his issue nor his request.
My two cents

I've had 0 issues with Beamreader, I use it to check the bus schedules for my town every day, it renders them flawlessly, images and text. QuickOffice F's them up majorly.
I use PDF To Go, which works great performance-wise and it's rendering isn't bad either. I wish it had PTZ though...
I also wish you could get the Desire PDF viewer extracted successfully...
BTW, Quickoffice is a joke...
Cant you just flash the desire rom on the nexus one to get the desire pdf viewer ?
Im not sure, Im just confirming. I too want to flash the nexus one with desire rom, but Im waiting for the final build.
Found a reader named RepliGo Reader which seem to render good. And best of all, it have pinch-to-zoom.

[App] ezPDF: The best Android PDF Reader

I was really disappointed with all Android PDF readers & unwilling to sell my iPod touch just for apps like GoodReader! A couple of weeks ago I found this great app called "ezPDF Reader" by accident in market & gave it a try & it's just impressive!
Unlike Repligo, QuickOffice, DocumentsToGo &.... it renders everything really fast, renders huge PDF files without any problems & here's the list of some of it's features:
It's super fast & reliable, not a single FC on documents larger tha 40 MBs!
Renders pages & pictures in a blink! It really shames Adobe Reader & similar apps...
Supports auto zooming feature for all columns & pictures.
Supports Night Mode & text reflow the way it should!
Shows thumbnails of all pages while reading in a very pleasant way!
Gets updated at least once a week! (Have had it for about 2 months)
Developers will actually implement your request, just tweet them or email them & in next version it's there!
You can add bookmarks to your documents.
Fully supports password-protected files.
Supports Wake-Lock.
Supports multi-touch up to 3 fingers.
Plays the multimedia content in PDFs.
Comes with free PDF printer for PC!
Supports Copy/Paste!
Supports pinch to zoom, horizontal lock, remembers your zoom level & position when you navigate.
Great animations!
It's just 0.99$!!!!!
& much more...
I really think developers deserve being supported, it's 5-star-rated in Market but it's been stuck in 1000-5000 downloads range for a very long time! Just give it a try, you'll love it! I just don't want developers abandon it coz there's nothing like it in Android Market! I don't know why it hasn't got enough attention though!
Appbrain Link
If you have already tried it, you can post your idea about it here!
They just released another update today which improves the rendering speed much more! I just hope they release a trial version or something to get more attention! Nobody has used the app here?
I have this on a Nook Color and I can't seem to get the menu to redisplay once the overlay controls minimize. How do you do it?
It really is the BEST PDF reader on Android!

It is the best one among those pdf reader I have used.
If you search the threads started by me, you realize I was desperately looking for a PDF reader with ezPDF features couple of months ago!
Android Market PDF readers are nothing good compared to this & they all carry price tags like 10$!!!
There's no benefit behind this topic for me, just want to make the project popular so it continues the way it is going now! It's been always updated at least twice a week... If you haven't tried it yet, use the 24 hours refund policy to check it, however I don't think you will ever ask for refund!

I just stumbled upon this app today. I was looking for a reasonably priced reader that had bookmarks so I can resume reading of large docs. This fits it to a "T". All the others I looked at were in the $7-10 price range. The UI is taking some getting used to, I would like to see a help or manual as there are almost too many options.

I still consider it as spam. Simple as that. You don't give a review. You just sum up the things it can do, you give a price and that's it.
And now you are talking about a 24 hours refund policy? Man... this is just spam.
I don't know what to tell you buddy! Whatever you wish to call it, I listed the features I think no other Droid PDF reader has, I can't figure out your problem!! Developers are Korean, I am by the way Iranian/Persian so ...!
It doesn't need a detailed review since there's no competition in PDF readers field on Android Market...! I think it is 5/5 rated!
As for manual, I found it a bit confusing too! Actually developers have an odd way of describing the features & how-to-dos! Read their tweets from following URL, somehow it works as their manual!!!
twitter.com/ezpdf
I have this app also, it really is the best. I was ready to buy BeamReader then I found ezPdf

Spamming your app however is different.

This is not a personal vendetta. I encourage all developers to promote their apps. I have no problem with that. The problem is that I think it's rather inappropriate to promote apps in a forum where developers are discouraged to promote their own paid apps. Isn't really motivating. Don't you see that?
And I didn't have had any problems with any moderator. So no, that isn't my motive also.
And of course I have contacted xda developers, but with a constructive request if it is possible to look for a way how developers can promote their own apps without undermining the philosophy of xda developers.
Btw ADW, dialer one and mort are free programs/apps as far as I know.
appelflap,

I do not see a violation of the forum rules here.

Annotatable form needed

I am looking for a very specific app to assist me with interviews. What I need is an app that can open a Word or Excel style template page. The page will have a list of questions and the space to fill in answers just like any normal paper application form.
Name:.........................................................................
Address :.....................................................................
..................................................................................
..................................................................................
Tel:................................................
Etc.
Now this bit is easy I have seen many app's that can do this, the next is the difficult bit,. I need the app to allow me to use a stylus to handwrite the answers in the fields. It does not need to recognise what I have written just save the page as I have annotated it with the handwritten answers. I can then open the template again and conduct the next interview.
Is there such an app out there? If not would anyone be interested in creating one? If this is a new idea then whoever wants it can use it. Thanks all.
Sounds like a good idea that can easily be accomplished using the Google App Inventor.
If I have a few spare cycles I'll see if I can throw it together.
Nice idea, would be a handy little app for many i'm sure.
Would be nice for it to have a "done and save" button so it auto went to the next form, and have an edit mode to edit the forms themselves (making it applicable for any survey, data collect use).
I'll have a look at the app maker today and see if a noob like me could knock something up (allthough its probably best left to those with experience).
Definately a good idea though ^^
EDIT: Oeer, think i may need to readup on the Appmaker for a week before i start ...Spose have to start somewhere. Consider me outof the dev picture for a mo ...allthough need any art/buttons i can help anytime xD

[Q] App building software no coding

Hi,
Looking for software to develop an app (preferably offline) which will help someone with no coding experience. I am proficient with photoshop & after effects but I don't know any coding.
I am sure at some point I'll require a pro to write some custom script for me but I want to get as far into the project on my own as possible.
I don't want to be bound by some websites hosting terms, with monthly fees and all this other stuff. Preferably, I'd build my app offline and go from there...I don't honestly trust these websites with little app builders then your app is stuck on their site and you're forced to use their hosting and things like that....if it's my app, it's my app!!! I shouldn't be bound to some website or whatever.
So, preferably offline app builder which someone with no coding experience can use?

I promise you I've searched extensively and yet to find what I'm looking for. AppsGeyser lifts content from the net and turns it into an app...it remains on the appsgeyser site so doesn't really fit with what I'm looking for...I just want simple app creation software without having to learn code because what I'm looking to do isn't super-unique, it's just for an add-on to my existing business.
Has anyone ever used Wix for website creation for example?? Fantastic user interface, couldn't be simpler yet the possibilities are pretty much endless especially since you can add custom coding if you wish but I've built a few sites with Wix, all function great, all look fantastic...just a shame they don't have the same service for app creation.

It's pretty much just a local directory type app mate....that's why I mentioned above that I am really not trying to do anything unique so I'd imagine there's some nice editing software out there somewhere I could utilise and have my app designed and created pretty quick....like the above example of the Wix website,...you could have a fantastic looking website up and running in a couple of hours.
Anything guys?
Still looking for nice easy app production software.

Just sounds like thats way more advanced than I'm looking for dude.
I want build an app to ad onto my local directory business and it really isn't doing anything advanced or unique...it's the content that separates it's from other apps, not it's functionality....an app containing a load of menus with click through links (are these called hyperlinks?) to that section of the directory then linked again to open specific entries within that section of the directory....
Surely, there's a nice easy, almost drag and drop, design software out there I can use?
I'm really put off by these app builders I see that are $50 per month or whatever but if I have to go that way, ok. Thoughts? (Appreciate everyone's input and I know it can be frustrating talking to newbies that really don't have a clue so appreciate the input and patience folks!)

I know enough to know that's simply not true...the reason for the post is that there's loads of drag and drop simple app builders out there that require no coding whatsoever....the point in the question is what is the best one and also the embedded question of why are there monthly charges that have such a huge range?
So, no...no code does not = no app.

Eclipse allows drag and drop bit you're dreaming man. There is no way you can make anything work on android when making an app without knowing some basics of code.
So get that book I told you about, get eclipse, and get the book "hello android" which helped me start out.
Android apps are way more complicated than they seem bro
Monthly charges is because to make app building software is so damn hard. Trust me. Try your hand at old school app development. You will learn to appreciate app makers cause no joke its hard as hell

But question is that why any company offer you free tool that helps you to create app without coding knowledge. So only two option is here May be company offer paid tool for that and i think so no as such paid tool available in the market.
2nd option is company offer you online tool where you can create app without the knowledge of tool, in return companies want you to buy their subscription etc... to use that code.
I used some tools for testing person and some of them give you .apk and .ipa file to test your app on device but do not give you source code of app. You can read more about 4 best app building softwares, but as i mentioned that they do not give you source code.
I hope so above mentioned information helps you.
Please don't forget to thumb up button if it is helpful. Thanks
Not long ago, people / businesses in the UK would have to pay at least £12,000 for the development of a simple website, without administration / hosting / commerce functions, etc.
Now, you can produce professional websites yourself with a little cost and effort. Downloading free templates, Adobe Muse, WebPlus X8, etc.
Adobe have now launched DPS (Digital Publishing Solutions) which will eventually become a standalone, offline solution for people that want the ability to create apps on an offline basis, with a one-off cost (no monthly subscriptions).
Without a doubt, such offline app dev software is in development now, and I cannot wait until it arrives.
For now, I use HTML5 based WYSIWYG solutions which work well in good wifi / 4g connection, but with no App Store listing and no ability to push notify, but I can create these without subscription / cloud based resources.
It suits clients that have a user base that would generally be within good connection areas and require their services in such a place.

[4.1+] Writeily Pro: Markdown Text Editor

Hey XDA,
Longtime lurker, but first time poster here. I just launched my new app, Writeily Pro, this past weekend, and I'd love it if you guys checked it out and gave me some feedback .
Here's the Play Store link:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=me.writeily.pro
If you like it, I'd also appreciate the rating to help give the app exposure! Also, the app is open sourced on GitHub here:
https://github.com/jffrymrtn/writeily-pro
And last but not least, I intended originally to charge for the app and make it paid. But a lot of my past Writeily (the original one) users said they'd rather it be free, while some said they'd donate if they could. So, I set up a separate "donate" version of the app, which is identical to Writeily Pro (except it's red). I just thought I'd put it out here since I don't have a link to Donate in the app yet, so if any of you would like to help out, here it is:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=me.writeily.donate
Let me know how it is! Thanks XDA
This is really neat, thanks! As much as I love Markdown, I'm wondering if adding other markup languages is planned (it might be out of scope if you consider Writeily a Markdown only app), such as reStructredText, which I find better than Markdown for longer documents?
The PIN setup needs improvement. No double entry to prevent typos?
When unlocking there is no mechanism to undo wrong entry. The only way is to hit enter and re try.
No scroll capability. Once the screen is full, it does not scroll up. Can't see what I typed!
Getting the same issue with the document not scrolling here. Don't get it on the non-pro version so perhaps it's something to do with the extra keyboard row.
It's a nice looking clean material app but would need Dropbox integration if it's going to make me switch from Draft which is my current editor.
Look forward to see where you go with it.

This is really neat, thanks! As much as I love Markdown, I'm wondering if adding other markup languages is planned (it might be out of scope if you consider Writeily a Markdown only app), such as reStructredText, which I find better than Markdown for longer documents?

Thanks, but I'm talking about markup languages, not "spoken" languages.
Are you considering adding tags functionality? and filter with tags?
Thanks
it will be nice to make it that you can write note with stylus pen behind keyboard..
Writeily
just wanted to say thanks for the app & the hard work. I'm giving it a try. The reviews are great & can't wait to try it!

Getting the same issue with the document not scrolling here. Don't get it on the non-pro version so perhaps it's something to do with the extra keyboard row.
Look forward to see where you go with it.

Interesting. I wasn't aware during testing, I'll file a bug and get this fixed for the next version. Thanks guys!

Thanks.
With tags, I could forget folders, or having to write a note in a specific folder or having to change it to a different one... I could even have two notes, with some tags in common and others not (impossible with folders).
Also, is it possible to do a bulk import/export and not just one txt file at a time?
Finally, about the added keyboard row (nice): it would be great if it were optional or hidden/unhiden with a swipe (it can take a lot of space on smaller screens, and sometimes you just don't really need it).
The preview function is awesome. Thanks for your app and work!
nice app,worth a try
thanks,
New update. Now I can scroll. Can I have the files sort by name? Please? Thank you

I have enjoyed using this app for many months, but was disheartened to see development discontinued. The timing is awkward: I just opened a GitHub account with intent to fork it once I learn my way around. On my hard drive, I've added many of the extra features I've long been waiting for: Tables, highlighting, LaTeX Math through MathJax, etc. But I'm not yet confident that I can use GitHub proficiently, since I've only signed up an account just a week ago.
Any suggestions how I should begin rebooting its development?
