Hey XDA,
Longtime lurker, but first time poster here. I just launched my new app, Writeily Pro, this past weekend, and I'd love it if you guys checked it out and gave me some feedback .
Here's the Play Store link:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=me.writeily.pro
If you like it, I'd also appreciate the rating to help give the app exposure! Also, the app is open sourced on GitHub here:
https://github.com/jffrymrtn/writeily-pro
And last but not least, I intended originally to charge for the app and make it paid. But a lot of my past Writeily (the original one) users said they'd rather it be free, while some said they'd donate if they could. So, I set up a separate "donate" version of the app, which is identical to Writeily Pro (except it's red). I just thought I'd put it out here since I don't have a link to Donate in the app yet, so if any of you would like to help out, here it is:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=me.writeily.donate
Let me know how it is! Thanks XDA
This is really neat, thanks! As much as I love Markdown, I'm wondering if adding other markup languages is planned (it might be out of scope if you consider Writeily a Markdown only app), such as reStructredText, which I find better than Markdown for longer documents?
The PIN setup needs improvement. No double entry to prevent typos?
When unlocking there is no mechanism to undo wrong entry. The only way is to hit enter and re try.
No scroll capability. Once the screen is full, it does not scroll up. Can't see what I typed!
Getting the same issue with the document not scrolling here. Don't get it on the non-pro version so perhaps it's something to do with the extra keyboard row.
It's a nice looking clean material app but would need Dropbox integration if it's going to make me switch from Draft which is my current editor.
Look forward to see where you go with it.

Thanks, but I'm talking about markup languages, not "spoken" languages.
Are you considering adding tags functionality? and filter with tags?
Thanks
it will be nice to make it that you can write note with stylus pen behind keyboard..

just wanted to say thanks for the app & the hard work. I'm giving it a try. The reviews are great & can't wait to try it!

Thanks.
With tags, I could forget folders, or having to write a note in a specific folder or having to change it to a different one... I could even have two notes, with some tags in common and others not (impossible with folders).
Also, is it possible to do a bulk import/export and not just one txt file at a time?
Finally, about the added keyboard row (nice): it would be great if it were optional or hidden/unhiden with a swipe (it can take a lot of space on smaller screens, and sometimes you just don't really need it).
The preview function is awesome. Thanks for your app and work!
nice app,worth a try
thanks,
New update. Now I can scroll. Can I have the files sort by name? Please? Thank you

I have enjoyed using this app for many months, but was disheartened to see development discontinued. The timing is awkward: I just opened a GitHub account with intent to fork it once I learn my way around. On my hard drive, I've added many of the extra features I've long been waiting for: Tables, highlighting, LaTeX Math through MathJax, etc. But I'm not yet confident that I can use GitHub proficiently, since I've only signed up an account just a week ago.
Any suggestions how I should begin rebooting its development?

-------------------------------------------------------------
These days are one of the most happy days of our team. With all the help, we released our i18n version and it is very well received. Now we have more users outside China than inside China Again, thank everyone esp. those provide language package and suggestions!!!!!
As I said, our journey just begin and you can expect many updates from us Ok for update target on 12/4.
- Find in page
- Share page
This feature is actually in right now. You have to long-press the address bar to get it. Apparently, this is bad UI. We are adjusting)
- Export/Import bookmark (FF/Chrome, etc)
Again, this feature is there as well. Just now it only work in a special directory. We will let you pick the directory where those bookmark files are
- YouTube related issues
We receive a lot of YT related issues. Please help us by being a bit more specific on your Android version and specific steps to reproduce. YT is blocked in China so it is very difficult to reproduce issues. Bear with us on this for a while.
- Refine translation and more languages
We plan on Korean and Russian
- i18n Top site
We need help here. Different country have its own top sites. We included the English one in the attachment. It should be fairly easy to understand.
"cat" means catagory. class: if equal("m") means site optimized for mobile device. otherwise means just vanilla www site (mostly pc experience)
We need your help to build for other language.
- App2SD support
Alright. This is a lot of work for us. So we may not finish everything...
Please
- Give us comment on more things need to fix
- New feature request
- Help on i18n on top sites and interface
- All other things))
I created http://groups.google.com/group/miren-browser for MIREN-only discussion.
Thanks everyone. We will TRY HARD!!!!!
Russian translation
I sent you russian translation about two weeks ago. You can find it here . So if you'll include it to the next build, I'll check strings and UI aswell.
Thank all your team for great job.
keep up the good work, this browser has quickly and easily became my favorite.
I made a Dutch (nl) Top Sites list, please include it in the next release .
On the Android Market I saw a comment on the browser in Dutch, and the comment is very negative. I've translated it to English:
"Very slow browser, many lags when loading links. I shouldn't recommend it. Samsung Galaxy S 2.2"
Maybe you can do something about it?
I think you should try to improve the overall Performance (scrolling, zooming etc.) because this is imho the biggest negative aspect of your browser.
But nice work, it has very much potential!
Why do you keep opening new threads. Keeping your updates to one thread is much more easier. I don't even see you replying to my question about the screen brightness issue in my previous post.
Here is link to it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9428813&postcount=11
i want this as default, but flash content renders over the address bar and it looks buggy and tacky. improve full screen settings. hasten loading times. and re-arrange text to zoom then im all in
Thanks for the feedback so far
Few points:
- We apologize if we didn't response fast enough. We will try to catch up
- Please suggest the best way to maintain a thread in XDA. We actually are very new to XDA and don't know the appropriate way. It seems not possible to change the Title of the original thread. Thus it is hard to tell we want to discuss a new RC instead of the old one. Anyway, please suggest. We want XDA members to try out new RC every one/two weeks and provide suggestions before it goes to market update.
- On performance. We are very serious about it. Please give us more specific steps so we can debug it out. Performance will be a main theme throughout our update cycle.
Yes, we got it thus why the RU version is possible.
Thanks again!

Cache to sd please. Or something. App is getting huge.

I'm having problems with flash playback. I get audio on videos posted to Facebook, but no visual. The same videos play great on the stock browser.
Flash on ESPN is very laggy.
I don't really have any of the performance issues that the others are talking about to be honest. I think the browser is actually very fast.
The one suggestion I would have is to highlight things when you are selecting them with your finger. This applies to the blue menu at the bottom of the screen and also to the bookmarks/history etc. When you click on an entry it should be highlighted, otherwise it looks like the screen has frozen.
Keep up the excellent work.
Feature request:
Saving web page as HTML or even PDF(Dolphin has thus .. )

When typing in a URL, have the address bar give a drop down that provides suggested URLs with a choice of common extensions (.com, .net etc). It would be awesome if you could also generate a list of choices based on your current location (e.g. if in Australia it would also suggest .com.au, or in china .com.cn)
But loving this browser already keep up the good work!
Hi,
Great Browser, I have two suggestions
1. Suggestions when searching
2. Bookmarklets (Javascript run as url). I use www.lastpass.com and they provide bookmarklets which will fill in log-in details. These work in Dolphin HD but not Miren. There are many other sites which produce bookmarklets for various reasons.
Thanks
1. should be implemented already. However a bug prevent suggestion showing. Should be fixed next week
2. We are investigating.

I was really disappointed with all Android PDF readers & unwilling to sell my iPod touch just for apps like GoodReader! A couple of weeks ago I found this great app called "ezPDF Reader" by accident in market & gave it a try & it's just impressive!
Unlike Repligo, QuickOffice, DocumentsToGo &.... it renders everything really fast, renders huge PDF files without any problems & here's the list of some of it's features:
It's super fast & reliable, not a single FC on documents larger tha 40 MBs!
Renders pages & pictures in a blink! It really shames Adobe Reader & similar apps...
Supports auto zooming feature for all columns & pictures.
Supports Night Mode & text reflow the way it should!
Shows thumbnails of all pages while reading in a very pleasant way!
Gets updated at least once a week! (Have had it for about 2 months)
Developers will actually implement your request, just tweet them or email them & in next version it's there!
You can add bookmarks to your documents.
Fully supports password-protected files.
Supports Wake-Lock.
Supports multi-touch up to 3 fingers.
Plays the multimedia content in PDFs.
Comes with free PDF printer for PC!
Supports Copy/Paste!
Supports pinch to zoom, horizontal lock, remembers your zoom level & position when you navigate.
Great animations!
It's just 0.99$!!!!!
& much more...
I really think developers deserve being supported, it's 5-star-rated in Market but it's been stuck in 1000-5000 downloads range for a very long time! Just give it a try, you'll love it! I just don't want developers abandon it coz there's nothing like it in Android Market! I don't know why it hasn't got enough attention though!
Appbrain Link
If you have already tried it, you can post your idea about it here!
They just released another update today which improves the rendering speed much more! I just hope they release a trial version or something to get more attention! Nobody has used the app here?
I have this on a Nook Color and I can't seem to get the menu to redisplay once the overlay controls minimize. How do you do it?

It is the best one among those pdf reader I have used.
If you search the threads started by me, you realize I was desperately looking for a PDF reader with ezPDF features couple of months ago!
Android Market PDF readers are nothing good compared to this & they all carry price tags like 10$!!!
There's no benefit behind this topic for me, just want to make the project popular so it continues the way it is going now! It's been always updated at least twice a week... If you haven't tried it yet, use the 24 hours refund policy to check it, however I don't think you will ever ask for refund!

I just stumbled upon this app today. I was looking for a reasonably priced reader that had bookmarks so I can resume reading of large docs. This fits it to a "T". All the others I looked at were in the $7-10 price range. The UI is taking some getting used to, I would like to see a help or manual as there are almost too many options.

I still consider it as spam. Simple as that. You don't give a review. You just sum up the things it can do, you give a price and that's it.
And now you are talking about a 24 hours refund policy? Man... this is just spam.
I don't know what to tell you buddy! Whatever you wish to call it, I listed the features I think no other Droid PDF reader has, I can't figure out your problem!! Developers are Korean, I am by the way Iranian/Persian so ...!
It doesn't need a detailed review since there's no competition in PDF readers field on Android Market...! I think it is 5/5 rated!
As for manual, I found it a bit confusing too! Actually developers have an odd way of describing the features & how-to-dos! Read their tweets from following URL, somehow it works as their manual!!!
twitter.com/ezpdf
I have this app also, it really is the best. I was ready to buy BeamReader then I found ezPdf

ADW was developed & advertised hereon XDA. Dialer one was advertised here on XDA. Mort player was both advertised during it's Winmo days & now in Android too.
If a mod closed your thread, talk to another mod about it.
Spamming your app however is different.
Oh btw, he isn't pushy. You are pushy with you personal vendetta. If you have a problem with this thread, report it man. Easy as that.

This is not a personal vendetta. I encourage all developers to promote their apps. I have no problem with that. The problem is that I think it's rather inappropriate to promote apps in a forum where developers are discouraged to promote their own paid apps. Isn't really motivating. Don't you see that?
And I didn't have had any problems with any moderator. So no, that isn't my motive also.
And of course I have contacted xda developers, but with a constructive request if it is possible to look for a way how developers can promote their own apps without undermining the philosophy of xda developers.
Btw ADW, dialer one and mort are free programs/apps as far as I know.
appelflap,
Before you complain about commercialization and self-promotion why not remove the "Donate To Me" link that shows up on all of your posts?
I do not see a violation of the forum rules here.

Question about the app: how do you turn on the night mode?

I am looking for a very specific app to assist me with interviews. What I need is an app that can open a Word or Excel style template page. The page will have a list of questions and the space to fill in answers just like any normal paper application form.
Name:.........................................................................
Address :.....................................................................
..................................................................................
..................................................................................
Tel:................................................
Etc.
Now this bit is easy I have seen many app's that can do this, the next is the difficult bit,. I need the app to allow me to use a stylus to handwrite the answers in the fields. It does not need to recognise what I have written just save the page as I have annotated it with the handwritten answers. I can then open the template again and conduct the next interview.
Is there such an app out there? If not would anyone be interested in creating one? If this is a new idea then whoever wants it can use it. Thanks all.
Sounds like a good idea that can easily be accomplished using the Google App Inventor.
If I have a few spare cycles I'll see if I can throw it together.
Nice idea, would be a handy little app for many i'm sure.
Would be nice for it to have a "done and save" button so it auto went to the next form, and have an edit mode to edit the forms themselves (making it applicable for any survey, data collect use).
I'll have a look at the app maker today and see if a noob like me could knock something up (allthough its probably best left to those with experience).
Definately a good idea though ^^
EDIT: Oeer, think i may need to readup on the Appmaker for a week before i start ...Spose have to start somewhere. Consider me outof the dev picture for a mo ...allthough need any art/buttons i can help anytime xD
TimeJot for Android is an app which calculates the time since an event so that you can easily find out how much time it has been since you did something. (Eg. How long has it been since you changed your car oil, bought your laptop (is it under a year of warranty), etc. TimeJot does the math and avoids the guesswork, or sccrolling through the calendar.
It's free and there are no in app purchases or a premium version.

So I am the developer of a little known Tapatalk alternative forum reader called Forum Fiend. The app has come a long way since I released it last fall. The reason for my post is that I have noticed XDA is the #3 site accessed through Forum Fiend, so there might be a couple of users around here. Was wondering if people could share their issues with the app or provide feedback on how to make it better. My goal is to provide a fully functional and superior forum browsing experience vs Tapatalk.
Thanks in advance for your input!

[*]Forum settings have been moved out of the sliding menu and on to their own screen.

I just tried it and it's a good start. It needs some work like labelling. Right now, it's just a box with the word "Add". Need a tutorial or something to guide the user into what or how to get into a forum. Right now, I had to guess and put the entire web address in the box. The key at the bottom needs a label. Even something as simple as "login" or something. I'm no IT/Tech expert but I can get around and figure stuff out. Not everyone is tech savvy so they need a little guidance.
Need a way to access favorite forums. XDA, for example, is a large forum. People don't like to scroll through every phone or tablet to find their forum.
Hopefully, this helps a little. I don't want to sound critical but these are things you need to know.
Taptalk is the gold standard right now but I like competition so good luck.

I've been looking for something to replace Tapatalk, and I've looked at FF a few times. Figuring out how to get a forum loaded was confusing. The only way I figured out how to get on to XDA was happening to see it on the Play Store pictures. Logging in was a bit awkward too. When I saw the key at the top, I figured it was a link to purchase a pro version or something.
Most of all though, the look of it kept me from switching over. It feels dated. From the default cartoon avatars before logging in to a forum and icons, to the font and colors, it just feels a little off, although the action bar looks fine. I also feel like the slide out navigation is sort of wasted on the settings menu and active users, neither of which I use much. They might be better suited for faster navigation, search, showing subscribed forums/topics.
The number 1 reason, though, that I am looking for a Tapatalk replacement is the ability to bypass the forum selection page since I only use XDA. If it could detect that only one forum is present and automatically enter that one when opening the app, that would be legit.
Sorry to seem like I was going on and on. I think it has good potential, and some easy-ish fixes can make a world difference.

Thanks, this is good feedback. I have read other comments in the market also saying the interface looks dated, but I am not entirely sure what a more modern interface looks like. Do you consider the general look and feel of Tapatalk to be a good example of modern, that I can use as a guide to work off of?
As for automatically going to a specific forum, that would certainly be easy to add. I was thinking of letting users place icons for their specific forums on their homescreen, so they could launch each forum just as they would a stand alone app. They would probably be widgets technically, but could look just like a normal app icon.

A holo interface would be nice keeping in time with current Google design and the majority of apps that currently being published.

Can you pleae explain what else is tracked and how?
I appreciate the fact you asked for the voice of community. I guess it's somewhat vital for application's life, if anything else for gaining people's attention. Anyway, first thing I noticed when I installed Forum Fiend (yeah, I installed Forum Fiend now for the first time) was the fact that you need to manually enter forum server's URL. It's not a major PITA, but perhaps it would be nicer if it was done the Tapatalk way. The design is quite up-to-date IMHO, but as Jesellers88 said, default icons are cute, but kind of unprofessional, I'm afraid.
Also, BBCode support is a quite handy feature which Tapatalk does not offer (kudos!), but a full-fledged editor with preview, code and other stuff depending on what each forum allows would be even better, though Tapatalk offers nothing.
To summarize: Forum Fiend is quite a nice application, but above mentioned suggestions (mine and from others in this thread) would bring it to perfection, I suppose. This post was intended to be a constructive critique and in no manner something intended to offend your work. I'm not an application developer or anything alike so this is my two cents .
Seems really interesting. Will certainly keep an eye on this project.
nice work. one issue encountered: app crashes when using "Last Page" function on a 1 page post. probably want to handle that better.

Yes sure, I use Google Analytics to track page views, and also I track an event each time a server connection is made (server URL only, no other information is tracked).
I also send server connection information (again, URL only) to a database at my website, so that in the future I can implement a "most popular" forums section.
I see someone saw my comment.
Thank you thank you thank you. I can't stand the Tapatalk app. You have my thanks and full support!

Thanks for the feedback. A preview mode for the BBCode editor would certainly be easy to accomplish, so I will probably be adding that in there.
The primary reason I do not have a forum listing/browsing option like Tapa, is that I do not have access to Tapa's massive forum database (at least, not that I know of). I agree that it sucks having to manually type in the server address though. To try to somewhat get around this, I have been logging which servers are being accessed from the app (server address only, no personal info), and plan on adding a "most popular servers" list, or some other way to browse. It is the best I can come up with for the time being though :-/ If anybody has suggestions on better ways to implement this though, I am open to any ideas!

Thanks, with time and work I hope to be able to rival or surpass the quality of the official app.

Thanks. The reason I started this project, and the reason I lost faith in Tapatalk, is because I had previously bought their "pro" app. Then they downgraded it to a free app and released another paid pro version. I wanted something that works without getting nickeled and dimed!

I don't mind paying if it works. Tapatalk is awful.
