[Q] Help with Nandroid - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Ok so im new to this stuff, but i flashed a new ROM on my G2 and after backiong my apps with titanium backup i still don't have all my contacts or sms.
before flashing i did a nandroid backup on my stock rom.
can i restore my nandroid to get my old contacts straight from this custom ROM? or do i need to odin back to stock and then do the nandroid restore?
im planning on doing a nandroid and exporting my contacts to SD card and then reflashing my ROM (cyangenmod7) and importing the contacts from there.

A nandroid restores EVERYTHING!!!
This means your phone will be EXACTLY THE SAME AS WHEN YOU DID THE BACKUP(okay the point where you rebooted to do it but still).
Hope this helps.

[Q] CWM didn't backup apps/user data?

This is the 2nd time I've run into a problem with CWM (first time was a checksum error but found a fix for it.)
Was running a rom (eagleblood) and decided to do a backup in clockwork before flashing a different rom (bionix.) Backup completed, factory reset/wiped everything, flashed rom, and after booting in realized I had google auth and another authenticator app set up on the old rom. Went back into CWM to restore what I just backed up and account info/apps/media files are gone. Luckily, I have an older backup from September that I can use to get to my authenticator apps but unfortunately still have lost what was added to my phone recently.
Question: Is my backup completely fubar? Has anyone run into something similar that could point me to a fix? I still have access to the backups.

Are you using Titanium Backup for backing up your apps/data? You might wanna look into that, its an easy great app.
I have no recent titanium backups. This is a nandroid backup that didn't backup. First I've ever seen.

That sucks man, I always batch a Titanium Backup to dropbox before thinking about a nand backup. It is a great precaution for the amount of tinkering we all do.
Titanium backup does boot/system/cache/etc. ?

No, it does user apps, system apps, and all their data. Titanium Backup is a must have app for rom flashers. A nandroid is okay to keep for emergencies, but for your apps and data, Titanium Backup is a must.

so do I just have to accept that bad nandroid backups happen?

[Q] restore backup rom

I have a simple, fast question..
If I make a backup of my ROM before i root etc. is it possible to go back to my standard ROM if i don't like the ROM i installed?
Thanks!
wouldnt u need to Root the Ph first to make a Backup ?
with my Sg s2 i rooted then backed up , and yes have restored to origional rom , But maybe not same kernal..
i backed up with clockworkmod
Sorry i ment i Backed up origionaly with titanium Backup , i restored this with CWM

Bit confused on making a backup

Right now my ROM is Hellfire phoenix, and I've been wanting to try one of the ICS ROMs. I didn't backup my stock of whatever when I put HFP on, but I thought to be safe I'd make a backup before I try ICS. So, how exactly do I make a backup?
Thanks for the help.
Boot into recovery. Backup/restore. Make backup.

Making a backup is also the same thing as making/doing a nandroid just in case you've seen that word around..
Go into CWM, go to backup/restore and then press on backup and let it backup for you. Later on, make sure to re assure yourself by restoring the backup you just made.
I did my backups and later on when i went to restore them. I got MD5 mismatch, hence the backups couldn't restore. Was a hassle.
