Bit confused on making a backup - T-Mobile LG G2x

Right now my ROM is Hellfire phoenix, and I've been wanting to try one of the ICS ROMs. I didn't backup my stock of whatever when I put HFP on, but I thought to be safe I'd make a backup before I try ICS. So, how exactly do I make a backup?
Thanks for the help.

Boot into recovery. Backup/restore. Make backup.

Making a backup is also the same thing as making/doing a nandroid just in case you've seen that word around..

Go into CWM, go to backup/restore and then press on backup and let it backup for you. Later on, make sure to re assure yourself by restoring the backup you just made.
I did my backups and later on when i went to restore them. I got MD5 mismatch, hence the backups couldn't restore. Was a hassle.

Restore Nandroid Backup after flashing custom rom?

Hey.
If I flash custom rom and then decide to go back to stock rom, do I just run the nandroid backup on top of the custom rom, or I have to wipe or something to make it run smooth and fast?
Thanks.
I just restore. But if u feel a lil frantic about issues do the normal wipe process

SAme here, never wiped, always worked great.
It wont hurt, but it wont change anything either, because restoring the nandroid rom actually does that for you automatically

Unable to Restore CWM backups?

I can't restore my CWM backups. I get an error saying unable to mount system.
I'm not using ROM Manager and I even tried reinstalling the same ROM that I made the backup from and then restoring the backup, but it still doesn't work. I'm using Octane 2.x with DrHonk's KJ1 Kernel and my CWM version is 3.0.2.8x
I've seen several posts on this issue, but haven't seen a clear answer. Some people say it doesn't work and others have said it does. If anyone can provide some help, I'd appreciate it. I like to try out different ROMS and with other phones such as the Vibrant (yes I know this phone is different) I have always made a backup with CWM and if I didn't like the ROM I could go right back to my previous one with very little work. I know I can use Titanium and I do that, but you can't restore everything so I end up having to redo a lot of stuff.
If anyone can provide some help with this, I would appreciate it.
Thanks,
From what I understand, you'll get that error when you restore a GB backup. Froyo works fine.
As a work around, you can boot into CWM, flash Dr Honks Bali kernel, then goto advanced>reboot recovery. When CWM boots again, you can restore your backup.
Another work around that I've seen mentioned is to boot into CWM, reflash the ROM of the backup you want to restore. Once the ROM flashes, goto backup/restore>advanced restore and backup the data only. That way you get the system partition from flashing the ROM, and your old data partition from your backup.
I haven't tried either of these methods. Guess I probably should have disclosed that first, but this is what I have gathered by reading some of these threads.

This is mostly correct. Just left one thing out. Make sure after you flash Bali and restore your nandroid that you also reflash cwm/voodoo kernel.

Thanks for the response. I guess I'll try to doing an advanced restore of the data the next time since that sounds like the least painful method. If that doesn't work I'll try the bali kernel.
Please keep in mind that you CANNOT perform an advanced data restore from Froyo to GB. It will cause issues, such as incoming calls going directly to voice mail.
If you are moving from Froyo to GB, be sure to create a backup of your apps and data using Titanium Backup. Restore everything once you're on GB and it'll work fine.

I followed the first suggestion, flashing Dr Honks Bali 3.3 Kernel and it worked great. Just make sure you re-flash your old kernel before you reboot and you'll be fine. Thanks for this.

[Q] CWM didn't backup apps/user data?

This is the 2nd time I've run into a problem with CWM (first time was a checksum error but found a fix for it.)
Was running a rom (eagleblood) and decided to do a backup in clockwork before flashing a different rom (bionix.) Backup completed, factory reset/wiped everything, flashed rom, and after booting in realized I had google auth and another authenticator app set up on the old rom. Went back into CWM to restore what I just backed up and account info/apps/media files are gone. Luckily, I have an older backup from September that I can use to get to my authenticator apps but unfortunately still have lost what was added to my phone recently.
Question: Is my backup completely fubar? Has anyone run into something similar that could point me to a fix? I still have access to the backups.

Are you using Titanium Backup for backing up your apps/data? You might wanna look into that, its an easy great app.
I have no recent titanium backups. This is a nandroid backup that didn't backup. First I've ever seen.

That sucks man, I always batch a Titanium Backup to dropbox before thinking about a nand backup. It is a great precaution for the amount of tinkering we all do.
Titanium backup does boot/system/cache/etc. ?

No, it does user apps, system apps, and all their data. Titanium Backup is a must have app for rom flashers. A nandroid is okay to keep for emergencies, but for your apps and data, Titanium Backup is a must.

so do I just have to accept that bad nandroid backups happen?

that's the point of the backup... just wipe things before installing the backup.
yea its not a bad a idea to do the backup protect u from a bad flash and as he said thats why the option there 8)
To better answer your question: restoring from a backup restores EVERYTHING to that EXACT state your phone was when you initially did your backup.
So it's not bad, and actually very good . I have 5 different ROM backups on my sd card.
Rom Factory
You can also use Rom Factory and create your own rom. This will not create a total backup of your phone, just the required folders for the operating system.

Restoring from a backup

Hey guys restoring from a NANDroid backup using TWRP won't don't anything bad to the system right ? I want to try an other rom but if i don't like it i don't wanna instal back my rom and then do all the settings and instal all the app again ..
Restoring a nandroid will restore the rom you backed up and all the data
A nandroid is like a snapshot of what you're running. It'll restore back to exactly what it was, when you backed up

Just make sure that you keep your backups up to date. Otherwise, when you restore, it won't have your latest mods, tweaks, apps, settings, etc. (anything you changed since the last backup). You can use Online Nandroid Backup to schedule daily automatic backups.
