[Q] Help with Nandroid

Ok so im new to this stuff, but i flashed a new ROM on my G2 and after backiong my apps with titanium backup i still don't have all my contacts or sms.
before flashing i did a nandroid backup on my stock rom.
can i restore my nandroid to get my old contacts straight from this custom ROM? or do i need to odin back to stock and then do the nandroid restore?
im planning on doing a nandroid and exporting my contacts to SD card and then reflashing my ROM (cyangenmod7) and importing the contacts from there.
A nandroid restores EVERYTHING!!!
This means your phone will be EXACTLY THE SAME AS WHEN YOU DID THE BACKUP(okay the point where you rebooted to do it but still).
Hope this helps.

(Q) Restoring nandroid backup

I rooted and installed CWM. I then did a nandroid backup of my current stock rom. Then I flashed sky icecream sandwich. Can I just go into CWM and flash my stock backup to get back to stock rooted with CWM, or do I have to go back through Odin?
Anytime you restore a nandroid backup it takes it back to exactly how you were when you made the backup
Unless............
Unless cwm screws up and you cant mount the internal sd. Then u must odin

Does the nandroid backup from recovery backup firmware?

Just a quickie...
Done a nandroid backup from within 4EXT recovery of my phone, which is stock 2.3.4, as I'm tempted to give one of the ICS custom roms a go.
These require flashing the ICS firmware before installing the custom ROM.
If I go back via the nandroid restore from recovery, does this restore the firmware or would that need re-flashing first?
No, it does not.

Click to collapse
No it will not restore firmware, but if you keep a library of firmware on your SD card you can install as you need from recovery. Rename the PG58IMG files with a reference to the firmware so you don't get muddled up, then rename to PG158IMG as you need.

[Q] restore backup rom

I have a simple, fast question..
If I make a backup of my ROM before i root etc. is it possible to go back to my standard ROM if i don't like the ROM i installed?
Thanks!
wouldnt u need to Root the Ph first to make a Backup ?
with my Sg s2 i rooted then backed up , and yes have restored to origional rom , But maybe not same kernal..
i backed up with clockworkmod
Sorry i ment i Backed up origionaly with titanium Backup , i restored this with CWM
So I can back up my rom with Titanium Backup and then restore it with CWM?
What should i do, backing up my phone before rooting or after rooting?

[Q] Stock boot.img for Villec2

Do i need to flash a stock boot.img when restoring a backup from TWRP?
My experience points to yes because I tried and it never got to boot animation after nandroid restore. Not 100% sure though.

Well if you think about it technically... If your backup is a custom rom and you restore it you have to flash its kernel, so since the backup is like a custom rom only backupped so you will have to flash its kernel too
