Screenshots for roms - Captivate General

I think screenshots of the roms should be included for every "ROM" post, so we don't have to flash it to see what it looks like. Open discussion starts...now.

i second that

Don't most ROM devs do that already?

I thought they all did also. Sometimes you have to go to their website to view the screens but they always have a link to the website

Instead of discussion why not start posting them here!

I agree. I've never flashed a ROM that didn't have readily accessible screen shots.
Sent from my Captivate running GR-12

For me it would help but I would flash it anyway just to see for myself.

Well, screenshots add that last push for me, like Firefly. I was like meh i might just wait, then i saw those screenshots of it. within the next 15 minutes I was running FF. XD

Post Your Home Screens

I have been working on this forever. Almost ready

yeah i noticed some dev's dont put up a screenshot then i have to think about whether i care enough to actually flash it

Every ROM needs to have screenshots

Just saying a lot of people leave them out and I won't flash to something that looks like a warez keygen
People REALLY need to post screen shots of their ROM instead of a blind flash "What will it look like?!"
Your loss.

I agree with you. Some have screenshots and some don't. Screenshots and Videos would be a very nice addition.

Ditto. Its too much hassle to restore everything after a flash to flash a ROM and not have any clue what its going to look like. Screenshots at a minimum are necessary. Videos would be great!
The way I see it is this, no one is forcing you to flash a rom onto your phone that the rom makers more or less.made for themselves and.decided to share with.the rest of us.
The devs of these roms are not here to serve you and make your life happy. They share their work as they see fit because they like to make their experience on their phones better.
Maybe you guys should go ahead and make your own rom and do things your way than to expect people to bend over backwards for you.
Of course that's just how I see it and your opinion may vary, but if I were you guys I would be satisfied that people smarter than us are taking time away from their lives to provide us with something that our service providers should have done ages ago.

Screenshots are pointless...
You shouldn't be flashing for looks. Your flashing for speed, kernel, modem.
Most of these rims are based on two or three leaked rims for the vibrant or 9000. They are all practically the same... and most link to theme addons with screenshots.
There ahouldnt be pics unless it is something so orginal from other roms and cooks.

It's JUST A SCREENSHOT. It's not like I'm asking for the world. Takes 5 minutes or less to drocap a few shots of what the changes are.
I'm not asking them to bendover backwards, I'm asking for 5 more minutes of their time. Cooking is hard, making screen shots is NOT

So let them cook while you flash the rom and take screen shots for everyone to see.
I don't think devs do not supply screenshots because they're not capable or don't want to. Most devs create ROMS for performance improvements not necessarily asthetics. I think if you want to customize your phone's apperance there are many ways to do it without having to flash a different ROM.

It shouldnt be a requirement.... These people are working hard to give you a good rom so they dont really need to upload screenshots for you :S.
its nice if they do but its just more work for them :S. Theyve done enough.
I used to feel the same way but the fact is all the real work is under the hood. Anything that is changed graphically can be modified by the end user. For instance no matter what rom I run I use the same layout with Launcherpro. So right off the bat every rom looks near the same. Afterward I flash custom dark themes if needed. You would never be able to tell what rom I'm running or if I've changed it recently based on my UI because I keep them exactly the same.
So in my case it's not a deal breaker if devs don't post screens but I understand why you may want them.

well said and totally agree
I understand how its mostly supposed to be about the improvements "under the hood." But in some circumstance there are some neat features that can only be interpreted by seeing it. Some people can't just flash in 5 minutes because they have to back up, restore, and get everything nice. Im not saying it has to be necessary, but it should be encouraged. Screenshots could be a very helpful tool, for future "ROM flashers"

Well once people realize that nandroid for our phones is crap, restoring is the only major thing we must do, and that can be done after you see what the Rom looks like. But this is just my opinion.

When u flash a rom with no screenshots, please upload them for people who may want to see them before trying. But well, some devs post and some don't.
In some cases, they don't use any specific launchers. In these cases the UI is very much like stock. The underlying differences like in kernel are not obvious in screenshots.
Why post a screen shot of a ROM when you can have 2 people with the same ROM loaded but Person A has a differnet look and layout in the end then person B? These ROMS are not about looks. IMO the DEVS do awesome work and I thank them for the time they put in and the work they do.
Edit: It might only take 5 mins to take a screen shot but that is on top of how ever long it took to build and test the ROM before release.

It's people like you that make people not want to release anything they've made.
Myself included.
I agree with the original poster, I do want to see what battery indicator, what stock homescreen layout and what color scheme is on a ROM at a minimum and I won't take a second look at a ROM with no screens. Sure the underlying reason is about performance but I also want to know that I won't have an hours worth of tweaking just to get the look acceptable because of some junk theme they decided to put in. Of course devs don't owe anyone any screenshots as their work is theirs to do with as they like, but if they really want it to get out there(as posting it with a link requesting donations indicates they probably do) then listening to the community will help them achieve that goal.

[ROM][AOSP] MagnusRagnarok's DestroyerRom V2 for the Evo Shift 4G

Okay, i stayed up all night working on this, i think it's passable...for now.
MagnusRagnarok released this rom for the Evo 4G Here. This is merely my attempt to get it working on the Evo Shift 4G. All thanks go to him.
Removed:
Flex T9 Apk removed.
Swype Apk removed.
Known Bugs:
media process force closes during initial setup.
Browser force closes instantly.
Destroyer Google Apps causes a endless boot loop. Google apps installer is included in the rom.
Video:
Instructions:
1. Place .zip on sdcard
2. Reboot into recovery
3. Clear, clear, clear
4. Flash zip
5. Reboot
6. ???
7. PROFIT!
DL Link:
http://dev-host.org/dob1ktkm3xhz/Destroyer_V2_Shift.zip
Will give it a thorugh review tommorow flashing now
So in the video it says adw launcher EX which is a paid app, if its included in download you might wanna remove the warez so a mod dont lock your thread

I didn't add ANYTHING to this rom, i just combined a stock CyanogenMod7 and Destroyer. Which means it was in one of those.

so far no google apps on phone, i cant setup a google account, market will not open, there are paid apps if the screen gets locked while the camera is on it needs a battery pull to bring it back, FM radio force closes.
I'm pretty sure you get the google apps from either rom manager or go the kush deck's thread in the evo development section and he has gapps w/ sprint vvm as well as regular gapps... I'm pretty sure its a, we aren't supposed to include the gapps but its not a huge issue if you include them, situation... Rom looks pretty cool from the video... I'm gonna give it a couple days to see if we can get the fc's figured out... Thanks for the hard work! Good to see fresh stuff popping up!

duh it is aosp huh, but not even letting me sign into google account, and im on cwm 3.1.0.1 and refuse to flash anything else so ill never be able to flash from cwm no browser so this is beta for sure
I said I was going to try this for a day but I could not get it working and I had a few personal issues
My review:
This is my little review
First off I want to say I had a major problem with the fact that there was warez everywhere in this rom. ADW EX, Root Explorer, and launcher pro plus where what I came across in the little time.
I think the moderators need to close this thread until it gets taken care of.
Besides that the ROM, well I couldn't even get it set up. Rom manager was outdated but couldn't update it in market because it would f/c so I could not flash gapps from rom manager constant browser f/c so I couldn't dl a gapps flashable (my computer is out) so I couldn't really use the rom fully
As for my impressions it looks like straight cm7 with a few warez apps and a couple fonts and a some animation changer that I didn't try but in previews looked cool
All in all I would call this ROM unstable and unusable for right now. Needs work. And I know you said you didnt add anything but these pay-for apps need to leave the ROM
I know this may sound harsh but it's only to make the ROM better. I hope you take what I have to say into consideration
I went checked out the original rom for the evo and it has all the warez apps in it. So he was being honest. I think that one should be locked as well, until those apps can be removed.
Sent from my PG06100 using Tapatalk
Idk, it seems really cool to have some of those paid apps built in... I know for one I Wouldn't mind the rom being built around apps I already use or want to use.

Link is down because paid apps are included in this ro and this goes against xda rules.
In the meantime that OP will fix the rom, this thread is closed, OP pm me when you have fixed it.
Thread Re-opened, OP fixed the rom deleting the paid apps.
I have to say that he didn't on purpose, he used the other source rom (under investigation) and in good faith he didn't check it, well i say that sometimes it could happen, anyway, i asked him to remove the paid apps that i've found, if someone think that there are some others, please, pm me or OP so he can fix it.
Thanks all for cooperation and thanks to OP.

My apologies, I'm not one to rip off someone who put time into their development and (rightfully so) decides to collect some money for their time and IP.
As for the other issues people have had, I can't seem to replicate them. I'll be back around my fiance's shift in the next few days and see what other issues she's had since using it everyday. Hopefully can eliminate them if I can repeat them.

Yea i get it you were just porting the rom that already had the warez in there.
Sorry if in my post I made the fustration pointed at you that wasn't my intention lol.
If i remember my problem was getting GAPPS to download. there was no way for me to do it.
I had tried ROM manager to flash GAPPS and that wouldnt work because it said ROM manager was an "outdated" version.
So i tried to go to the market and that would F/C "which made me need gapps more" and then the browser would force close so i couldnt actually download a flashable zip for GAPPS. So i could never actually get it set up.
Hope that helps.
For me it was just a few different problems that ended up all coming together
Whenever I flashed it and linked my Google account, it popped a prompt asking if I wanted to download gapps and then popped a list of them for me to select from.

When I get my Internet back up and running I will try this rom. And thank you for being honest and removing the warez, even though you didn't put them in. I had a feeling it was an honest mistake

Not an ASOP guy, by any means. But glad to see someone else doing Dev work for the Shift . Just have to watch where you get your resources in the future . But KUDOS on the rom.
any more work on this rom being done?
I'm sorry I haven't had the time to give this the proper attention it deserves. I hope to sit down after my vacation and go through this and really tear it down, hopefully figure out some of the issues and add some features. Will be changing the name as well to not be associated with the blatant piracy.

First impression of Ubuntu touch

Yes yes yes there is a version for Verizon gs3 available in case you have not seen.
I would have brought along some screen shots....but I don't think Ubuntu would let me :/
Anyways
I know my opinion is irrelevant because you guys do not care and the build is currently the definition of " Not a daily driver"
However,
One can still understand the flow and mechanics of the layout.
I use my phone for everything. Quickly moving from one app to another.
In this sense, Ubuntu flows like a river in how to navigate through the apps and home pages. Everything was smooth and no lag any where.
I did find a draw back to the easy access though.
Because of all the swipes in different locations at different times and the multiple spots to pull down different sections of the notification bar, you find your self
Being as clumsy as a new born giraffe while navigating.
Also, because hard ware keys are broken. I found my self somewhere but lost. It would take me a minute to get where I needed to go only because I just didn't know how to get there haha
Coming from touch wiz and an AOSP ROM here and there... Ubuntu almost seems childish?
The layout makes me feel like an old man picking up a smart phone for the first time.
The colors and theme remind me of a day care.
Haha I know all of this is purely theme as not everyone will be happy with it.
But the idea and creativity into this is purely AMAZING.
One of the most refreshing (ROM?) I have used.
I will be coming back when it is daily qualified and might even think that day would be donation worthy
Side notes:
If you are thinking about flashing. DO it.
It was fun until I realized there is no WiFi or network.
Most Apps open but don't work

It's definitely different and original, which I like. Hard to get a real feel for it since it's basically a non-working demo at this point. Lots of swiping all over the place to do everything. But it looks pretty clean and has some cool features like the favorite apps bar and easy app switching/multitasking.
for people asking about the link, it is on rootzwiki forum.
Saw an article on this and knew it would be posted about here. Not ready to try it out myself just yet. But I do like the idea and will be watching. Unfortunate that they put out a semi-functional build with flaws such as these but it's understandable.

Builds for the GS3 variants is just a developer preview, I'm guessing we won't see a solid functional build for any device until the source code drops which will probably be around the same time the Ubuntu phone is announced/released. Truly unique experience, lots of swiping and great for multi tasking which I do a lot of. Wasn't too thrilled with the dock system but I suppose it's worth getting use to. The ability to dual boot ubuntu touch/android will be the selling point for most ppl.

its a lot like stock in some ways but it is merge of the galaxy s3 and the note 2 4.1.1 and 4.1.2. it has a lot of the note 2 features like the multi window and the ink on the lock screen. also it has the floating keyboard in multi window mode. you should give it a try it has the choice of the stock kernal or the custom kernal when you install it. its pretty awesome...its my daily driver...

Unlike previous phones, I haven't done much with custom ROMs on the S3, mostly because after de-bloating, I don't mind the stock install overmuch.
That pretty much changed for me when andybones released BoneStock. So far, I'm loving it! Enough to try to get my post count up for the first time in the 2+ years that I've been reading and lurking around here just so I can post in the Dev thread for it...

Thank you so much! This really means a lot. This is exactly what I was striving for when I released the ROM, something that is absolutely stock, but with the options in Aroma of just what is wanted, along with very light theming nothing overtop, and that's also how I wanted to go about the MODs as well. I did not want to over load it with stuff people don't' use or want so Aroma proved to be the perfect solution, although my scripting was zero at first and quite challenging but much like anything with Android for me, spend some time with it and fell in love.
Oh and please feel free to post in any of my threads to get your post count up, just post like , "good job" or something.

Hi. I figured I'd start this thread here and work from it until things are farther along and more legit. I just got the Sprint Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 a few days ago and now I have CM-11.0 booting on it. NOW MUCH WORKS YES RADIOS. THERE IS NO NFC SUPPORT!!! and BT works, audio works mostly. So, consider this just a nice little preview you can flash to see Cid on your tablet. Don't post bug reports and get all crazy please. I don't post much because I don't have time to respond very often. The link I'm providing is a generic link for now, but I'll post specific links IN THE THREAD for builds with new fixes and some info about the builds. Also at that link is a CWMR image for v6.0.4.7. Everything works fine on it. I've been testing it for a couple days. So, to recap: CM/CWMR for lt02ltespr ONLY.
http://www.oudhitsquad.com/android/?dir=Samsung/lt02ltespr
You might notice a carbon directory in there. This device WILL become an official CarbonRom device ASAP, but for now that dir is empty.
PLEASE NOTE: I don't do mods/kernels etc. I don't have time. If I do release something like that it's because I'm sharing something I'm working on for personal use and might not support it properly.
It's nice to be here. I hope there are some users who will enjoy this stuff. Cheers and OUT!
UPDATE 4/8/14: Today's updates are stripped of all NFC and FM radio stuff since the device has not HW for them. Also, I've been looking into getting USB host mode working so there's been some, but not full success there. I removed geomagneticd so the Google Maps app acts more like it usually does, but I think I like the compass effect we had going. Dual band wifi is more stable and both radios show up on boot for me. I checked BT audio yesterday in my car with a third party BT audio device and it worked, so now I can really be a road hazard. Not much else is fixed.
New builds will be here:

Count me in for testing. If it had wifi I'd be happy lol, anything is better than stock but I hate touchwiz

Today is your lucky day. I have a working WiFi build ready for upload. I'm out right now, so expect a link tonight or tomorrow morning.
Sweet deal. I will be watching for it. Like I said I'll do any testing you need. Maybe a little help and I could even help you out building the rom. I have some exp with rom kitchen and a little porting exp. Had a few roms myself (toro,ls970,vivow) so im glad to contribute any way I can on this project. Hopefully CM will see it and pick the device up officially.

It's already getting noticed. ARCO added the device to msm8930 common for me yesterday. I'll subim patched myself once I'm farther along.
Hell yeah. That's awesome
Any luck with the upload? The suspense is murder lol.
I'm down for testing too if you need it.

Do you need some assistance? I could help you out uploading and what not if you dont have time. My bandwidth is ridiculous. I'm sure there's a lot of folks just waiting for this to be posted with working wifi. This is the only 4.4.2 build that I've noticed in the works for this device.

Im guessing the thread must be dead or something. Which really sucks cause this would have been a great start for other rom development for T217S
It's only been a few days. Have faith. Life happens.

You guessed wrong bro. New build is up today. Cm-11.0. Wifi works, both channels, sound...No cameras yet, headphone insertion kills things etc. It's buggy, but it's coming. I'm a busy guy. Be patient.

Way to prove me wrong. Love it when that happens lol. Running it now, seems nice, few graphical issues but nothing so bad its not usable as my DD. Can't wait to see what the future holds for this ROM/Device. Though IMO anything without TouchWiz is a step in the right direction.
Thanks again, and I'll keep you informed on any issues I find and am able to replicate.
I think I swapped the adreno drivers from the s4 mini... Spread the word, its coming.
Would you mind if I made a thread in the development section with links to this thread and the ROM? Of course you'd be getting the credit and all, I just think it would get noticed more there.

I'd like to wait until it's a bit better please. Solid audio and the graphics glitches at least. I'm working on it now. Thanks for asking though bro.
Alright. That's why I asked before doing it

This is awesome news. I'm going to miss multi window but it's worth it to get rid of touchwiz. Thanks for your work. Can't wait to try it whens few more his get worked out.

Am I right in assuming this is for the sprint version of the Tab 3? I currently have the t210 device and would love to see CM on it! Very new to Samsung. Only had the device a couple of days!
Yeah it is, but after its a little more stable I might decide to start porting it out to the other Tab 3 models. This is just an alpha build still and is far from ready. But if you could find a CM for T210 I may be able to hack-port it over. It wouldn't be the most stable thing out there but it would be a start similar to this ROM
