Hi
Recieved my transformer today and after a few hrs with it, I was totally impressed. It is by far the most beautiful tablet I have had. From an ipad, a tmo galaxy tab and the Gtablet, this one is a keeper. A few things:
1. For some reason when the asus is connected to a USB hub attached to my 27" iMac, it would not charge. I had to connect it directy to an AC source.
2. How do I use the "MyNet" feature to gain access to the videos and files on my macintosh? I saw a message about DLNA from the tab, but don't have any idea how to set it up from the Mac.
3. I read that Asus was providing some sort of cloud storage for the transformer, but I cannot locate the info or an app on the tablet so I can take advantage of that feature. Is there a sign-up page for this online storage cloud service?
4. Is there any macintosh software available which would allow me to access the sdcard on the eee pad? I am able to do this via windows from Parallels, but would like to have access also from the Apple side.
5. Which HDMI type cable should I be getting for the Transformer?
6. Is there a short "root" method I can use apart from this one ...
I am not comfortable for this long process to have cwm on the Tab. Will wait for an easier method. Just need root for now.
My unit came fully updated, and software update hasn't found any thing new.
Kudos to Asus for engineering such an awesome tablet.
#1 is easy - USB ports on computers (any computer) only provide about 500mA of current. This is not enough to charge a tablet device. If you look at the output rating of the adapter with your Transformer, it's probably something like 5V, 1800mA.
Simply put - USB ports on computers don't put out enough juice.

Actually, you're running the original March build. You'll want to go to this thread and click on the link to the latest firmware. It's a manual (non-FOTA) update, and you'll need a microSD card to apply it.

That will give you the various Asus utilities you're looking for.
5. Mini hdmi.

Mine charges VERY slowly via USB when the display is off. Get about 2% per hour I think.

unlimited cloud storage can be found in the app "MyCloud" after the update
if you had webstorage account from asus before you'll have to set up a new one from Eeepad to take advantage of the first year unlimited cloud storage
I dont think MyNet is compatible with macs, and as was stated in the other posts (and judging from your screenshot), you don't have the latest firmware installed. It's easily updated by using a microsd card though.

I'm thinking the same thing regarding MyNet for Macs. Hopefully there is an update in the future that will bring compatibility to Macs/OSX.
As mentioned before, the current capacity of a usb hub ( or computer usb port is not sufficient to do a good job charging the TF. Also the chips used in most 4 port USB hubs provide two powered ports and two un-powered ports. The un-powered ports can not be used to power anything.

My ReadyDLNA (Ext3 external drive plugged into a WNDR3700) is showing in MyNet, so can't we just use a Mac OS DLNA clent/server? I feel like this could be done without even using the router like I am.

Sorry I don't know enough about macs to give advice on that. All i know is that on the asus site, it doesnt mention mac support at all, which leads me to believe there isn't, nor will there be, any software to make it compatible on the mac.
I guess you could use a windows emulator as a workaround or even install a proper version of it on a partition.

Well the software they provide for windows is indeed a DLNA client/server, so in a sense the mechanics are identical, not to mention you can work with with Ext3 in Mac os (Much faster streamingpotential compared to NTFS). I plan on installing XBMC later today, and I'll post back if there are any issues with HFS+.

As long as you see your dlna server in mynet I don't see why not. Your shares don't show up? That's strange. Because I got a windows xp machine running the windows media player dlna server and I see all my folders. Though my transformer don't support most of the video on my PC...that's a bummer. Need a good video player on this transformer that can play streaming video.

Not quite.
The Transformer PSU puts out 15v at 1.2A on a pin that is normally used by USB3 (Not present at all on USB2)
When plugged into a normal USB2 hub (only 5V) it will charge _very_ slowly and even then only when powered off (not just with the screen off)

If you turn off the screen it will trickle charge very slowly. USB ports aren't providing enough juice to fully charge the TF.
2. How do I use the "MyNet" feature to gain access to the videos and files on my macintosh? I saw a message about DLNA from the tab, but don't have any idea how to set it up from the Mac.
You want to run some sort of DLNA software on the Mac. I use an app called "Playback" on my Mac Mini for DLNA purposes to stream to my Xbox and Epic 4G (when i had one) and Galaxy Tab (when i had one).
3. I read that Asus was providing some sort of cloud storage for the transformer, but I cannot locate the info or an app on the tablet so I can take advantage of that feature. Is there a sign-up page for this online storage cloud service?
Complimentary one-year trial of ASUS WebStorage. Please visit www.asuswebstorage.com for more details.

Yes, it's called Android File transfer. http://www.android.com/filetransfer/
5. Which HDMI type cable should I be getting for the Transformer?
Mini HDMI, available for cheap online or for about $29 at your local BestBuy.
6. Is there a short "root" method I can use apart from this one ...

It's sad that i don't even have the TF yet i can answer your questions as a fellow Mac user. I need to get a life/get laid or something...

You just need to be running a DLNA server on the Mac. Look up an app called Playback.
I think everyone's misunderstanding what I was trying to say before. I was trying to help someone else, I don't need help on the subject myself thx. I hate macs, theyre too simple to use and no challenge.
I was reading that they had fixed the issue with seeing memory cards, but either the Transformer is different or I misread.
The software seems to be worth the $5, so I'm not too upset but right now it the software does not see my microsd card. I can only see the internal storage.
Anyone else play with this software? Any solution? I have about 12gb free, so it's not a big deal right now but I'd like to use the microsd card.
How does that compare to Word Feud. I really like the interface for Word Feud.

I think you are confusing doubletwist with something else, it syncs itunes to your phone I think. However I like wordfeud too, I've got 8 games going right now

Does anyone have this working with their iTunes on Mac OS X? I can use Android File Transfer to move music over, but I'd rather sync it. Don't seem to be able to mount the eee pad transformer on OS X yet...
If you pay the $5, you can sync over the air.
I haven't used it too much, but I copied a couple CDs over and it works pretty good.
Ah, so air sync works fine with OS X?
I wanted to play around with it some before shelling $5 out for an app that I might not use. Guess they got my money.
Haven't played with it too much as I said, but for what I saw it's totally worth the $5. You can only sync to internal memory right now, but hopefully they fix that.
Started the app on the Transformer, went to my Macbook and started DoubleTwist. There it was in my list of devices! Entered a code, and just dragged stuff over from iTunes library. Nice.
I read it does or is going to even support song ratings. (Not sure WHY I rate my songs, but I do. )
P.S. The interface looks pretty good on Honeycomb, even though it doesn't appear to be designed for it.
Cool, thanks for the help.
The wireless syncing is definitely helpful, saves having to unplug the AC charger everytime, and airplay seems like it might come in useful.
i just paired my galaxy s with my tf and theres nothing i can do with it! i was hoping that i could route my phone calls to the tab any other workarounds?
bump bump bump
This is something I really hope comes to honeycomb. I would love to bridge my phone and be able to text or even see incoming calls from the tablet. Or even transfer stuff from phone to tablet. Kind of like the HP touchpad bridge functionality. But from what i understand there is nothing like this right now, unfortunatly.

If you've got an android phone try installing and running Bluetooth File Transfer on both the handset and transformer to allow you to transfer files wirelessly between them.

More than file sharing im looking at call routing...im guessing thats not possible right now and that sucks :-\

I do know you can use Syncsms and have the ability to text with the Transformer thru your phone directly from the Transformer, but for calling nothing out that I know of so far but im sure the DEVS will find a way to make this happen
Well the only bluetooth thing I've used with my TF is tethering with my DX oh and file transfers work well too, ya that doesnt come up on the list but as long as both devices have the app for it your set.
I just got my TF today and it's great so far. I installed a couple apps, Copilot being one of them. I've used it before on friend's Atrix and I like it, so I bought it.
It interacts weird with the TF while typing in an address. I wanted to put in "1900 S Creek" and got "1900 Ss Ccrcrecreecreek". Somethign weird with the Asus keyboard or auto-correct I assume since it seems to work fine with my friend's Atrix.
Yeah, looks like the Asus keyboard was the issue.
ive had this with copilot whilst using swype on desire, just change to deafult keyboard

that co pilot looks interesting....can you recommend it? I'm assuming that it's a cached version of us maps and that's how you don't need a data connection to use it?

That's exactly what it is. It requires like 2GB of space after you buy it to install. I don't know how updates and stuff work though (like if they are free or not). I'll probably grab it anyway because the thought of using a 10.1" screen as a gps is freaking awesome.
I have two versions of this program (THD and the HD) none of them work on my tablet. In fact, after trying them my pen input stopped working altogether. I have not bought the version 2 of this program, before I do can anyone verify if it works? I'm going to have to reset my whole tablet now just to get my pen to work again.
Thanks
I used splash top 2 on my LAN at home and it worked very well. I did not purchase the anywhere subscription so I cannot comment on that function.

Download and use splashtop 2 HD it works awesome and is free. I purchased both thd and hd in the past and you are correct both work like crap. Crazy that this new version works great and has more options but is free for accessing locally, splashtop 2 is pushing accessing from anywhere Ala logmein and charging for it. Regardless its ridiculous apps I spent around $20 on work horribly and still aren't updated for jellybean yet this free version is excellent.
Thanks all for your response! For some reason I was thinking the Splashtop 2 was a pay app and I did not want to buy yet another version only to have it not work as well. Good to know its free (for local use) and works well!
