The gingerbread build appears to have the same kernel as the froyo build. What does this mean? If you are getting reboots this is more evidence that that is a HARDWARE issue! Don't expect the software update to fix it!
Wouldn't that mean since kernel is the same that possibly it could be a kernal issue. And in the final build the kernel could be different once final build hits?
Who said that anyone was having any issues with the build yet? Way to be a debby downer.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
Im sure the reboots are a kernel issue (software). Its possible it could be not supplying enough voltage during sleep mode or something of that nature. Im sure it will be corrected soon by someone whether its LG or another dev.

I think the reboots are coming from 3rd party software that uses GPS, specifically Speedtest. I was getting reboots every 30 minutes until I uninstalled that, and now none at all.

If there were kernel issues, I would have expected a newer rev in the gingerbread build to try to correct them.
Just trying to help those who may be hoping a software update corrects this issue.

I agree... Im seeing a few hangups with GPS apps.. no problems with GPS/maps, but im betting some slight software issue with some GPS apps such as gasbuddy and gpstest.

Agree, I have gps status and gps test and my tracks and never had the issue..
Its a software problem, probably in the kernel. Most likely a driver.

Its just like with computers or CPU's. Not every piece of hardware is created equal yet the exact same software has to be designed to run on all of it. If you notice some phones can overclock to 1.6ghz while others can barely run 1ghz and may require even more voltage. They are the same phone but one just turned out superior to the other. A company has to keep this in mind when creating its firmware. Maybe LG just needs to readjust some things to make it run better on ALL phones. Personally mine is perfectly fine and doesnt reboot at all.
I doubt any two phones run the same software for more than a half hour after unboxing. Mine never reboots, but it would hang. Now with nightly-8 it doesn't hang. Perhaps the ext4 driver was to blame. We'll see.

Was the ext4 driver CM specific? Because afaik the kernel uses ext3 filesystems (at least the stock version unaltered does, or think it does). I do agree though that there are some weird driver issues any of which could be the cause of some of the odd behavior being exhibited.
It wasn't that, my phone just froze again. With a little patience I can get the web browser ro close after 3 or so minutes.
I was futzing with gps status prior to the hang.
My phone got hot and just froze.

So I've had the phone since 4pm yesterday. I use uptime widget on my phones for kicks and to check for stability issues so I installed it right after I got it.
The phone was up for 7 hours until around 11pm when I rebooted it myself (to fix a unknown my phone number problem). It came up fine. 30 mins later it rebooted itself which i didn't think much of since I thought it was invoked by a SIM update. Since after the 2nd reboot it correctly showed my phone # in Status and my Messaging app, etc.
All is well, on the charger overnight, wake up this morning and use it everything is fine. At almost exactly 8:30AM while sitting idle/screen off it reboots again?!
Not sure if this is due to the tons of apps I have on or was again a network related reboot. I know in the past when I had GSM phones, the carrier can definitely initiate a reboot due to a SIM update. Having it happen at exactly 8:30AM seems bizarre. It's super fast and no lag or crashes otherwise.
I'm going to use it more today and keep an eye on it but just FYI. Anybody with it experiencing anything similar?

Check out this review of the GSlate by PC Mag. One of the cons is "occasionally reboots." I think LG has some 'splaining to do. This is their second device (third if you separate O2X from G2X) to suffer the problem.
Pros
First 4G tablet. Powerful Tegra 2 processor. Excellent HD screen, with HD output capability. Shoots and plays 3D footage (glasses included). Affordably-priced (after rebate) for 32GB capacity. Generally intuitive user interface. Dual-facing cameras. Video chat.
Cons
Default Honeycomb home screen feels cluttered. Flash 10.2 beta is buggy. Strange, off-center orientation for front-facing camera. Occasionally reboots, unprovoked, when idle. Android Market needs more Honeycomb apps.
Strange how LG could be causing this on both devices since they are both stock Android! My Moto XOOM with Honeycomb has it's issues as well because it's an early OS but having occassional reboots on Froyo 2.2.2 is not acceptable.
I'm hoping it's related to an app or something. Once more people get the phone we should be able to see if it's an isolated or widespread problem.
Its definitely not the LG's custom UI that is causing random reboots. I really hope its not the hardware!
Update coming soon hopefully?
http://translate.google.com/transla...alligevel-problemer-med-optimus-2x,lid.15324/
That's the 2X right? Doubt the same update will apply to us but here's hoping. Anybody else with a G2X having this? It could just have been me and the phone being provisioned. I've had it for less than 24 hours.
Lets not jump to conclusions just yet.. My phones have rebooted due to my doings, lets see if others have the issue first before blaming the issue on this phone too.
Just received my G2X today and have experienced the random reboot thing twice in about 3 hours.
Will keep an eye on it today and report back later.

Don't worry me like this! My phone is arriving tomorrow! Also when you guys got your phones did you plug it in and let it fully charge before playing with it? I know it would be hard not to just turn it on...
Just rebooted again while I was walking the dog and listening to a podcast so first time while I was using it. I think it might have to do with GPS use. The CNN app I installed last night uses it a ton and I think it causes the issue.
Anybody else having this using CNN or another GPS heavy app.

He took down my email address so he can send me the update when he gets it next week..so that way reps can test it out and start pushing it in stores.. in my opinion I don't see the update coming in the next few weeks to customers if an LG reps g2x isn't even updated yet..and is barely starting to roll out for reps to test out.. sorry for the long post..and once again..DONT SHOOT THE MESSENGER! actually this makes sense.
1) people who have said their phones said there was an update after phone rebooted .. this has been mentioned several times so that part makes sense.
2) you are the second person from a different source today to mention an update for next week.
obviously its probably just getting to tmobile next week but at least thats something.
Let us know how it goes. if you dont see an internal update by next week than well know thats its probably not trust worthy. but what he said makes sense regarding the update stuff.
and hopefully the gb update fixes gps and wifi

I can say my battery life appears to be better, no random reboots yet.
I've also previously experienced what I call hibernate which is where I have to press the power key 12 times to unlock the screen. Seems to run a bit smoother as well.
Problems so far are the camera sucks now. When the screen goes to standby after I load a webpage and I unlock the screen, it reverts to the previous page.
I have had a few occasions where I have had to click a link like 10 times to get data to load the page. That all I've notices so far within the 24 hours I've been running the update.

On my 3rd G2x and it has been solid cept for a few things, such as GPS taking up to 20 minutes to lock, apps being unable to be moved to SD-card, whenever adding an app or widget to the homescreen would lock up the phone for a bit and would take up to 5 minutes to pull up a list, eating through a battery down to 40% after a full charge within 3 hours of light use.
Granted I fixed almost all those issues by rooting it and applying fixes I discovered through this wonderful forum. From the GPS fix (it locked within about 20sec-3minutes, much better than before) and the pre-opt-dex patch that was put up here which totally helped when adding apps/widgets to the homescreen(3-10 seconds compared to the 5 minutes). To some battery monitoring apps and charging techniques that helped me get the best out of my battery, which saw a full charge last about 9 hours before it squealed to be plugged back in.
Now with Gingerbread finally installed the GPS lock is virtually instant, the apps/widgets are likewise, almost instant. The battery seems to be a bit better. I took it off the charger at 4pm and its still at 25% at this time (12:49am).
As odd as it seems, I look back and am thankful for the buggy G2X. While I really liked my Nexus One, I never really delved into the community much. It was a solid phone and never had any problem, save for the complete lack of space to put apps on it. The buggy G2x lead me to this wonderful forum which was full of people with helpful opinions and great tips. Through the assistance of everyone here I learned a lot more about the Android system and about phones in general. Coming from a big PC background (I like building and fixing them) I liked that the Android OS provided me with similar work around that I did when working on PC's.
So, while the initial experience with the phone was nightmarish, in retrospect I really learned something, it's good to know that there is a group of people dedicated to making sure we get the best out of our phones and freeing us from the shackles of the providers limitations on the phones (rooting rocks!!)
A note to T-Mobile and LG. Why did you rush this phone?!?! I would have gladly waited till July for a fully functional phone. Without Gingerbread this is one of the most powerful phones in the universe, with Gingerbread it can now take advantage of that power. It's not like the competition was putting out anything much better than the MyTouch4g at that time, yes the Atrix, but that was a buggy nightmare too. So what if the Sensation beat this to market, this has stock android, an arguably better (supported at least) GPU, and is rootable. I would have waited. Look right now, for my criteriahttp://blogs.computerworld.com/16755/android_user_interface for a phone my options are currently the G2X, Nexus S and....can't really think of anything else... So seriously, coming from a Nexus One, the obvious choice is the G2X. I would think that a decent chunk of the people reading this would agree.
same here
I was one of the lucky ones to have a G2x without issues
stock phone not rooted, update went thru without problems and the phone feels snappier; I do miss the original LG camera app though
It's good to hear everyone is happy with their phone...now I won't have to read about everyone jumping ship to the sensation.

uhhhh try restarting the phone first and see if that fixes it... otherwise you are going to have to throw CWM on there and restore to stock and try doing the update again OR wait until there is a flashable bootloader posted up which is likely to be soon...

It's still there, :-( I guess I must have hit the dismiss button in my sleep yesterday morning when the alarm went off. I woke up before the alarm sounded this morning, and there was the pop-up, same as always. Oh, well...
I recently corrupted my internal SD card for the second time and when I sent it in for repairs they just sent me a new phone. There is a huge difference from my old one. They never replaced the battery but my battery life has literally doubled. I would rarely make it through a full day on my old captivate, but now I usually have 50% battery left at the end of the day with the exact same usage. I accepted the fact that the GPS doesn't work with the captivate and guess what, the GPS is usable on my new captivate. I never once got an accurate lock on my old captivate standing outside on a clear day, now I can get an accurate lock in my house. For some reason the screen looks better on my new captivate, alot less yellowish, colors look accurate. Guess maybe I had a defective phone to begin with. I am running same rom and kernel as before and notice alot of differences, especially battery life and GPS. Didn't know how much hardware could be different from phone to phone. Also, kc1 modem was crap on my old phone, but great on this one. Guess that is why they say no one can recommend a rom or kernel for you because it may run different on your phone. So happy I got my old captivate replaced.

I tried telling them I have horrible GPS and they refused to exchange with a new one. They said it's normal for a smartphone *shrugs* I guess I'll try again with a different warranty center rep?
what build you have now?
Over the phone? Our at a warranty center?

Maybe the battery was not calibrated on the old one? I can get well over a day with moderate load, running cm7 nightly build 99, highly recommend

Tell them you have the random shutdowns problem. At&t is aware of that one.
Im on Mexico, and i have no warranty at all. You are lucky to live on USA guys.

Samsung doesn't honor the manufacturers warranty in that country?

If I tell them I have random shut down issues...that would be a lie. My phone has no random shut down issues at all.
I do not know if the battery drain is normal or a little too fast. I can't even tell.

If you have bad battery life tell them cause many people are getting new batteries by doing so.

And it gets a great big "meh" from me.

Woot
"...biggest change is the addition of the Verizon Remote Diagnostics app which will allow customer care representatives to better troubleshoot any problems you’re having with your device."
More bloat with the added benefit of the verizon nitwits rumaging around my customized system, yay!!
It looks like the FP1 radios might finally get rid of the squeal/click that some people are experiencing on their phones. That's a bonus, if nothing else, especially since it can most likely be ripped from stock and flashed separately.
Complete calls without experiencing choppy audio, clicking noises, and/or one-way audio noises

Actually, if history is any indication, we'll have wait for a leak of the full firmware. The LTE radios can be extracted from the device, but the CDMA radios can't be dumped, and the update files from Verizon usually only contain the diffs/deltas. We ran into that with EP4D...it was a couple of weeks after the OTA before we had a flashable radio that didn't require you to be at stock EE4.
The only path on the radios at first is probably going to be flashing full stock, taking the OTA, then flashing an EP4 rom on top of them.
Can't wait for the fix for the cracking and popping issue.
It doesn't always happen, but when it does, my ears bleed.

Well - there was a workaround for such things if interested in only modem updating - assuming the same can be done here you'll just have to be on the EP4P radios for this one. That ought to save a little hassle anyway.
Does anyone know what the "new UI" is?

Maybe they finally finished that new GB theme XD
Only good thing about the update is the radio update. Else this is fail sauce.

Well at least they got the radios working properly.
Anyone think they will change kernel or something related again? Also anyone know when this is supposed to roll out?

Yeah this update will make it totally worth the $10/mo.
As a side note, this may improve the GPS even more.
It's likely a modem+kernel update to fix the radio related issues. Given the reported size and the changelog, I'm wondering if they did completely retheme the system, as I don't see any reason for it to be 85MB for anything else.

You can always delete it from your system/apps folder as I am sure it will be an APK

I hope so. They have been known to embed things more deeply though (I'm looking at you, Mobile Hotspot).

LMAO! It's so funny cause it's horribly true. I imagine that new addition wouldn't allow them to access anything that they weren't already able to. But regardless it's bloat and if possible I'll be removing it. *curses Mobile Hotspot, you and your elusive trickery*

It should be possible to remove. I am pretty sure nitro managed to do it in Eclipse.
i have lost all faith in samsung getting anything right on this phone so ill stick with my eclipse rom pbj kernel phone that actually works like it should as opposed another cluster of crap from samsung that is still in the end just another gb update.
