LTE by the end of the year!! - Samsung Mesmerize

USCC just announced that 4G LTE will be available in select markets by the end of the year. Now we need to see some awesome devices to go with the service!

Could there be an update for our phones for 4g?

Hope you've been saving your Belief points for that faster upgrade...

I knew those points would come in handy,

Pro-rated $150 ETF isn't exactly going to keep me from getting an LTE phone either. Hell I can probably sell my Mes for more than that at that point. Gotta love the lowest ETF in the business!

The "select" markets part don't scare you a bit?

From their press release:
"The initial rollout of 4G LTE service for U.S. Cellular, which has the highest call quality and network satisfaction of any national carrier, is planned for selected cities in Iowa, Wisconsin, Maine, North Carolina, Texas and Oklahoma. These include some of U.S. Cellular's leading markets such as Milwaukee, Madison and Racine, Wis.; Des Moines, Cedar Rapids and Davenport, Iowa; Portland and Bangor, Maine; and Greenville, N.C."

I'm stoked about being part of the build out crew in a v1 market! Lots of work and training ahead, but man the payoff looks sweet!

HAWT. I can get 4G in my current city, and when I visit my folks.
Have the gone into how it'll work if you're outside an LTE service area---just go back to 3G or something? Or will that really be by-device?

Probably what you will see at launch will be 3 devices: 1 phone, 1 tab, and 1 aircard. The phone will hopefully/probably be a 3 technology device, utilizing lte, evdo, and 1x. Don't quote me on any of that, but I can't imagine that there will be a whole lot more than that right away.

My excitement for this is being dwindle by the horrible 3g speeds I've gotten the last few days. It's been so bad that even the Market times out before I can open my apps to check for updates. Last few Speedtest results have been 0.01 mbs. Pretty sure dial up was faster. Maybe with LTE I'll get 3g speeds?

damn right,,, cedar rapids for the win baby!!!
US Cellular just hsowed themselves as one of the smartest companies ever.
they install LTE in markets where no one else would.
i guarentee you... guarentee! that the USCC user base will EXPLODE once they get it deployed.
i am completely shocked that Verizon and Sprint never did anything in Des Moines, or even Omaha or lincoln.
but Cedar rapids, Des Moines and Davenport.. yeah baby.. yeah!!!
Verizon did announce a while back they are bringing LTE to Iowa City though.

I live in STL and we still don't have 3G. Glad to see they don't care. Needless to say I'm not holding my breath on 4G.

I see more dead phones in our future...we need a better battery power source if we don't start looking now were gonna be screwed
But all this comes with LTE and faster speeds

My tech had mentioned this to me a few months ago. I saw in teamuscellulars site that USCC has been testing the Motorola Atrix.
I have been eligible for an upgrade since last month, so I guess I will have to check the atrix forum and see if I really want to leave my mez and go that way.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App

Dont forget the LTE phones will revert back to 3G/EVDO and 1X so they will still work in all markets, but not at LTE speeds. The upshot of this is that they will be selling LTE capable phones in ALL markets when they are available, however stock priority will go to the LTE Markets first.
The Rest of the markets will roll out next year and this is EXACTLY the same as we did for our 3G roll out a few years ago.
No matter what the naysayers say, the Atrix is in testing... right now...

Verizon LTE Coming to "a mess of cities and towns" Thursday

http://twitter.com/#!/VerizonWireless/status/59968063570837504
Anybody see a press release for this on where it is coming? I would love to see it in Springfield, MA! I doubt it though as I haven't seen it come on for "testing" as some other cities have.
Would love for Portland, OR to be one of them.

I've seen a couple of postings that folks around here (Portland) have had 4G on and off over the past couple weeks. Was in a VZW corporate store (Bridgeport) the other day and the tech person noted that it had been on and off lately--she assumed for testing.
It's been on at PDX for sometime, as I'm sure you know. I hope the signal spreads to SW of the city where I am.

I don't think that's it. Expect to see the vast majority of cities from the initial update to the LTE coverage list (not this most recent one) receive their connectivity on Thursday. And expect a lot more of those mini-press releases. They'll probably do one for each major area that gets 4G LTE turned on.
edit: Like I said, they've already got two more tweets up with areas that are getting it, plus two more mini-press releases.

Flint, MI, my home town, is one of the cities on that initial list I referred to. I have a feeling they'll light it up on Thursday, which is the same day I'm heading home for Easter. I'm gonna have to come up with some money for a Thunderbolt quick, haha.
I'm really curious to see what kind of LTE signal strength I get at my home, though. Currently, I get an average of 1 bar of signal strength on 3G. In one corner of my upstairs bedroom, 2 bars. Downstairs there are dead zones everywhere (including for voice. Mom still doesn't understand that she needs to stay in one place when she calls me on her cell phone from home, or else I can't hear her!). My understanding is that 4G LTE has a bit more range to it than 3G, and that you'll still get decent transfer rates when you have low signal strength due to the different way LTE sends data packets. I really hope I can finally get some decent data speeds at my house now.
I wonder what the I-78 corridor is, does that mean they are covering the highway between the 3 cities? Because I thought they were covering the whole area of the cities so it would be one big blob. The only other meaning I can infer is that they plan to cover I-78 for the extra 15-20 miles or so from easton to where their NYC coverage runs out. I guess we'll see exactly what happens on the 21st, I can't wait.

So did Sprint stop implementing 4G in other cities or what?

I'm always hearing about Verizon's LTE service going live another city. And now I find out that its going live where I live. I mean Sprint was the first and still I don't have any wimax 4g where I'm at.
Sorry for the rant....I just don't get how Verizon's LTE service is live in my city when sprints 4g is not.
In fact I believe Verizon's LTE service is live in a lot more cities than Sprints Wimax 4G service
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk
i talked to a sprint rep about sprint losing its contracts that allowed them to use other carrier's towers. he tried to reassure me that to offset the issue, theyre starting to rollout more 3g/4g towers. now i don't know how much truth is in that, but i'm just gonna take it with a grain of salt.
both sprint and clear have no money to roll out more 4g. they havent turned on any markets in months.
Yah and also there talk of Sprint/clear moving to Lte.
They just rolled WiMax out to like 40 new markets a couple of months ago.

This couldn't be more incorrect, and yes they have been rolling out coverage in many areas. Go ahead and go over to the Clear.com site and look at coverage. Zoom in to areas and you will see green in many places, even though they aren't official Clear cities yet. Clear actually has been doing quite well, as has Sprint.
http://corporate.clearwire.com/releases.cfm
This will show they are expanding with Sprint. They also had one of the most successful quarters to date for them. That is also in there.
Don't spread misinfo!
They also will be upgrading it to be faster.

poor, naive, uninformed customers being taken advantage of...
womp womp. they dont have money to roll out more service. they have eliminated most retail outlets. do more research and you will see, that even though they posted gains last QUARTER, it doesnt help the last two years of losses. regardless of posting gains, they are NOT rolling out 4g.
I think its both....
Clearwire is behind the 8 ball, but getting rid of retail was a good move. Now they can concentrate strictly on building out the WIMAX network, and eventually push out WIMAX 2 to legitimately compete in the 4G war. The question is whether or not they can stay afloat to do so....

Once you again you clearly show 0 knowledge in this. They shut down outlets because Sprint had asked them to spend more interest and money into building out the infrastructure. I have about 10 sources that can confirm this, and I can also confirm it by showing coverage that is showing up in the map every day. Stop trolling and get some real facts. Clear has also been testing LTE and a wider spectrum for Wimax here in PHX. So you either do your research or zip your mouth. I posted links to hard facts, showing coverage being built and turned on, and the fact the speeds are being upgraded. I will also note that a Clear truck has been building a new tower about 500FT from my house.
Once again I will post it
May 12th they opened up more coverage to the Bay Area.

Here is more proof, Sprint helping them build Multi-Mode towers. That 2.5ghz is the Wimax Spetrum.

Clear has been hurting for money but they have rolled out a few places like grand rapids, mi and a few more. Sprint is working on project leap frog which is combining the base towers to give way better signal and merging the 800mhz into all the towers to provide 1xadvanced coverage for simultanious voice and data. I for one am excited especially when the 800 mhz spectrum turns from iden to lte plus the wimax out will be awesome just be patient, sprint has really good things coming

To the poster who said a sprint rep tried to reassure you they have posted many internal docs recently about this to help educate reps.
And the western MI outages that happened has helped to lite the fire on this burner.
I can now connect to 4G in my house near Lansing, MI. To my knowledge, they have never announced anything in the Lansing and Flint areas, but if you go to http://www.clear.com/coverage, you can see if it is available in your area.
I really hope sprint puts lte on 800 MHz ...it would line up with where Europe will be so eventually we will have a situation where most phones in the us have at least 700mhz domestic...and 800mhz for international roaming ....if they use it for evdo now it could be a long time before we see a lte rollout on sprint

They officially added Tallahassee, Florida awhile back but I rarely see 4g here. I get it at my house and a few restaurants and that's it. I've seen the 4g icon while driving but as soon as I park it normally drops to 3g. This really pisses me off because this is the only reason I left my X for the Thunderbolt.

Don't forget Fayetteville. For some reason, Fayetteville got 4G before RDU. I found this out as I was driving down to Savannah. I picked up my phone and it said "4G LTE" while I was driving down the I-95 Fayetteville bypass, and I was like, "Huh?"
I live in the Raleigh/Durham area, and I'm originally from Winston-Salem. The latest I got from VZW is that RDU should get 4G by the end of Q3, but who knows if that's going to happen. Last I checked, the Triad was still on the list for 2011 4G, so hopefully that happens too.

What did you expect? 4G everywhere as soon as the Tbolt went on sale? They're basically building a new network from the ground up. Verizon doesn't send out emails welcoming people to 4Gland. It usually just happens overnight. Here in Ohio, its almost impossible to avoid LTE inside a city. Even a small one like fostoria, OH. Some places won't see it for years yet. It's not false advertising. I didn't expect to see it where I'm at anytime soon, then they started doing nightly testing and it was live in a month. You just have to relax your expectations.

AT&T LTE Network Going Live This Sunday

http://www.maximumpc.com/article/news/att_lte_network_going_live_sunday
The cities included in this initial wave are Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio. Although users in those metro areas will still have very few LTE devices to choose from. Unlike Verizon, which has multiple LTE handsets, AT&T has no phones compatible with the new network. AT&T launched a data stick and a portable hotspot for the LTE network last month. The carrier has also started selling a massively overpriced Android tablet, the HTC Jetstream.
sweet im in San Antonio for a little while, now for AT&T to get some phones for me to use !!!
Now if they could hurry up and increase the HSPA+ speeds. I'm still only getting 3.5mb download and 1mb upload in downtown Dallas.... iPhone 3gs gets about the same download speed, although only half of the upload speed.
Come to the other side of the Metroplex. Downtown Fort Worth and I am getting 5-7mb down, 1.1-1.3 up. I can't wait for the Holiday with LTE. That will be SO sweet.

I live in the outskirt of Houston and HSPA+ is non existent at home. In Houston where I work, as posted, I am just now seeing the true benefit of HSPA+. Probably some bottlenecks from ongoing upgrades being freed up, maybe a little congestion as well.

Knowing how AT&T operates, I'd imagine they opened up more bandwidth to the land-based lines to the area first to make sure their LTE debut went well and you're just seeing some of that extra bandwidth.

I know the Inspire is not a LTE phone, but just launching the network upgrade has helped me to see vastly improved data speeds. I also know the Speed test app is not accurate, but I have never seen it pull these kind of speeds, especially consistently.

Turn off your wifi, Comcast customer.
"at&t 4G? lol. It's more like 0.4G"

I'm not as stupid as you. I know when I'm on wifi. Here is the proof.
Here are some from earlier today. The first two were indoors, a large metal building with offices above on the second floor. The first run was bad, only 2800kbps, but I did hit 4916kbps on the second. I then went outdoors and tested a lil slower than yesterday, but not by much, 6485-7767kbps. I know we can't put too much stock in the Speed Test app, but there is some consistency and I'm getting much higher runs than I had been. Also, it seems to be reading my wifi at home with some accuracy.

lol.
Then why do you make statements like LTE network is improving the throughout of a HSPA+ phone on the 3G stack?

Show me where I made that statement. I stated that since the LTE launch, my data speeds have suddenly increased and I'm finally seeing true hspa+, and that is a fact. I provided a couple of possible reasons for this, as someone else cited a possibility as well. I know what you saw. You saw the hosted by Comcast in the screenshot. Lol. Anybody with half a brain would know that there would have been a wifi icon in the status bar if I was on wifi. Next time you open your mouth, try not to put your foot in it. Your little signature says it all. Just because you are in a crummy area, doesn't mean it is like that everywheres.
Check my screenshot of prior tests and tell me if you see any improvement compared to yesterday and today. LOL.

I'm good. I just don't appreciate someone implying I'm either stupid or I'm a liar. It certainly isn't inconceivable that while AT&T was building the LTE network here in Houston, they were improving the backhaul for hspa+. Whatever the source of the improvement, I'm thrilled to see true hspa+ speeds. It is something I never expected to see with my Inspire.

The carrier has also started selling a massively overpriced Android tablet, the HTC Jetstream.[/QUOTE]
No westcoast cities in the works??
They finally turned on hspa+ in okc ok I'm seeing 7-9 dl constanly ul still around 1 but better signal to at my use to get 10- 30 percent now 70 -95 crazy how just one day they just flipped it on finaly I use to leave my phone on edge as o could surf internet faster that way not anymore
