I read the recent PR release and nothing was mentioned about my area. I'm in Southern Indiana near Louisville KY. Louisville has had 4g since Derby but recently 4G expanded about 6 miles north of the river in New Albany, Clarksville, & Jeffersonville Indiana!
Anybody else see unexpected 4g locations?

They included Fremont, OH with the Toledo, OH upgrade. It's not officially on yet, but it is on. I don't know how much of Northwest OH was covered with the upgrade for sure though.
Been covering Penn State here for a while, never reached my house though. Recently however I've been getting LTE in the mornings at home, so they're expanding here somewhat.

They officially added Tallahassee, Florida awhile back but I rarely see 4g here. I get it at my house and a few restaurants and that's it. I've seen the 4g icon while driving but as soon as I park it normally drops to 3g. This really pisses me off because this is the only reason I left my X for the Thunderbolt.

It's nice seeing these "unofficial" additions to coverage. This is one thing I have to give Verizon props on, network expansion. They are aggressive about it. They may be shy about approving/certifying phones but they know how to build out a network fast!

maybe it's on, but they don't want to announce it because they are still testing it.
there is always the other side of the coin as well, like he originally announced markets that still have no 4g...yea I'm pointing the finger at Raleigh/Durham
Maybe the most densely populated state could get some... NEW JERSEY!?!? "why would we want to cover the most people? " silly Verizon...

I hear you. I live in Greenville, NC. You can imagine how sad I was when I saw they announced 4G for Greenville SC, not Greenville NC. As someone who is in Raleigh/Durham area a few times a month, 4G there would be nice also... but no, Wilmington gets all the 4G love. It's only because VZW has corporate headquarters in Wilmington for our area.

Don't forget Fayetteville. For some reason, Fayetteville got 4G before RDU. I found this out as I was driving down to Savannah. I picked up my phone and it said "4G LTE" while I was driving down the I-95 Fayetteville bypass, and I was like, "Huh?"
I live in the Raleigh/Durham area, and I'm originally from Winston-Salem. The latest I got from VZW is that RDU should get 4G by the end of Q3, but who knows if that's going to happen. Last I checked, the Triad was still on the list for 2011 4G, so hopefully that happens too.

I've seen a couple of postings that folks around here (Portland) have had 4G on and off over the past couple weeks. Was in a VZW corporate store (Bridgeport) the other day and the tech person noted that it had been on and off lately--she assumed for testing.
It's been on at PDX for sometime, as I'm sure you know. I hope the signal spreads to SW of the city where I am.

I don't think that's it. Expect to see the vast majority of cities from the initial update to the LTE coverage list (not this most recent one) receive their connectivity on Thursday. And expect a lot more of those mini-press releases. They'll probably do one for each major area that gets 4G LTE turned on.
edit: Like I said, they've already got two more tweets up with areas that are getting it, plus two more mini-press releases.

Flint, MI, my home town, is one of the cities on that initial list I referred to. I have a feeling they'll light it up on Thursday, which is the same day I'm heading home for Easter. I'm gonna have to come up with some money for a Thunderbolt quick, haha.
I'm really curious to see what kind of LTE signal strength I get at my home, though. Currently, I get an average of 1 bar of signal strength on 3G. In one corner of my upstairs bedroom, 2 bars. Downstairs there are dead zones everywhere (including for voice. Mom still doesn't understand that she needs to stay in one place when she calls me on her cell phone from home, or else I can't hear her!). My understanding is that 4G LTE has a bit more range to it than 3G, and that you'll still get decent transfer rates when you have low signal strength due to the different way LTE sends data packets. I really hope I can finally get some decent data speeds at my house now.
I wonder what the I-78 corridor is, does that mean they are covering the highway between the 3 cities? Because I thought they were covering the whole area of the cities so it would be one big blob. The only other meaning I can infer is that they plan to cover I-78 for the extra 15-20 miles or so from easton to where their NYC coverage runs out. I guess we'll see exactly what happens on the 21st, I can't wait.

Have the gone into how it'll work if you're outside an LTE service area---just go back to 3G or something? Or will that really be by-device?

Probably what you will see at launch will be 3 devices: 1 phone, 1 tab, and 1 aircard. The phone will hopefully/probably be a 3 technology device, utilizing lte, evdo, and 1x. Don't quote me on any of that, but I can't imagine that there will be a whole lot more than that right away.
My excitement for this is being dwindle by the horrible 3g speeds I've gotten the last few days. It's been so bad that even the Market times out before I can open my apps to check for updates. Last few Speedtest results have been 0.01 mbs. Pretty sure dial up was faster. Maybe with LTE I'll get 3g speeds?

i am completely shocked that Verizon and Sprint never did anything in Des Moines, or even Omaha or lincoln.
but Cedar rapids, Des Moines and Davenport.. yeah baby.. yeah!!!
Verizon did announce a while back they are bringing LTE to Iowa City though.
I live in STL and we still don't have 3G. Glad to see they don't care. Needless to say I'm not holding my breath on 4G.

But all this comes with LTE and faster speeds
My tech had mentioned this to me a few months ago. I saw in teamuscellulars site that USCC has been testing the Motorola Atrix.
I have been eligible for an upgrade since last month, so I guess I will have to check the atrix forum and see if I really want to leave my mez and go that way.

Dont forget the LTE phones will revert back to 3G/EVDO and 1X so they will still work in all markets, but not at LTE speeds. The upshot of this is that they will be selling LTE capable phones in ALL markets when they are available, however stock priority will go to the LTE Markets first.
The Rest of the markets will roll out next year and this is EXACTLY the same as we did for our 3G roll out a few years ago.
No matter what the naysayers say, the Atrix is in testing... right now...
Great news for the people of Colorado Springs, Colorado. 4G has hit different parts of the city. I was driving up at have hit 4G twice. 4G is still spotty and will be released to the entire city, with an official release by the end of the year. You can find 4G coverage in parts of Briargate (locals will know this area) and parts of downtown. I only had 4G for a matter of minutes, but after being with Denver and messing around with 4G I am very excited to have LTE in the area.
I'm jealous. Where I work in Northglenn (about 6 miles north of downtown Denver) I had 4G for a good two weeks but it has disappeared.

That's what I'm hoping too.....its just around the corner and I am surprised Colo Spgs, is getting it so early.
I was under the impression that VZ stated in an official release (prior to the TB release) that COS was getting 4G in the first half of 2011. So I'm not so sure we can call this early...but I'm excited to see it fully implemented.
From what I hear from a buddy, Ft Collins is just about to be turned on full time, hopefully both cities get flipped on together. Wish Verizon wasn't so "hush hush" about proposed dates.

Hmmm... It does seem Ohio has the best LTE coverage by percent than just about any other state. It's almost hard to avoid it now.
So far nothing for Newark.
Though Lancaster and all these other places have it around. Kinda ticks me off a little.
Ohio was more or less a test ground for 3G. When a lot of the 3G came out it was Nortel equipment as they had exclusive rights for verizon towers early on.
I just wish they would turn up the power in Toledo. I'm in Michigan and the damn signal dies about 200 yards from the house. Even on the Verizon map it shows where it dies and it is about spot on.
I live in NE Ohio in on the outskirts South East of the Cleveland 4G area. According to VZW map, I'm considered "extended 4G". I've owned the phone since launch and have never seen 4G in my home until this morning. It's been twelve hours now and I still have it. They must have cranked up something around Cleveland and Akron.

What did you expect? 4G everywhere as soon as the Tbolt went on sale? They're basically building a new network from the ground up. Verizon doesn't send out emails welcoming people to 4Gland. It usually just happens overnight. Here in Ohio, its almost impossible to avoid LTE inside a city. Even a small one like fostoria, OH. Some places won't see it for years yet. It's not false advertising. I didn't expect to see it where I'm at anytime soon, then they started doing nightly testing and it was live in a month. You just have to relax your expectations.
