trying to root my htc sprint hero 1.5 help
Hey man everyone started from the same spot your in. People on here are SUPER helpful, but easily get annoyed by people asking the same questions and not posting them in the right section. USE SEARCH! its your best friend, every question has been asked over 3 times. My advice, read everything on rooting (terminology, dangers, benefits, which type of root fits your needs, which ROM you want to flash) after a week or so on researching, find an RUU file in a thread. Then load that on your phone and follow the command prompt instructions carefully. Remember to use search, and rooting can brick, break, your phone. But the benefits of rooting are well worth It.

Go to the development section and look at the top posts(stickies), they have all the instructions there.

Upgrade to 2.1 first. Easier to root for me plus you're already upgraded then.

3 days ago I also had 1.5 which was rooted already. I then upgraded to the newest fw and then rerooted using the one click method that you will find here in xda forums. Worked without probs and was EXTREMELY easy.

Hey dude, I'd recommend using this link right here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=694572
It tells how to get your phone to the stock 2.1 and then how to root that.
If you read down through the first 2 or 3 posts, all the instructions are there and it's really hard to mess them up if you follow exactly what is typed.
You don't even HAVE to upgrade to 2.1, but I'd recommend doing it first.
If you don't want to mess with the link I included above, you can just root it from 1.5 like it is now using some of the one-click methods out there on the forum. If you go to the Development section of this HTC Hero forum and look around for any threads with ROOT in the title, you should be able to find anything you need.
Also check out the Take Control link down in my signature below -- it has a lot of helpful posts and info too.
I have been struggling with trying to root this phone, the iida infobar a01.
Sharp makes it, model shx11swa
I am trying to get the boot.img, for development.
It is android 2.3.3 with a custom ui.
I have tried is03break, superoneclick & fre3vo. All of them seemed to work to a certain extent but get held up at the end of each of those processes.
I will provide outputs if asked.
I am willing to either follow directions with adb or have someone go remote and do it.
please help! Thanks.....

So how is the philly.com tablet anyway???
considering it was only $99.00 and it has an micro sd slot plus a USB port for flash drives. the one draw back is the fact we cant access the Market, but that will soon change by the end of the month when they release root and custom firmwares. i guess it really depends on what you want to use the tablet for. it plays games just fine. the hd movies i have watched on it plays with no skips. i was pleasantly surprised when i got it.
Sean,
Definitely interested in the root/firmware. The Amazon market is nice but missing a lot of great apps.
You can just pull apks from an android phone or download online and install on the tablet, but just make sure they dont ask for google permissions.

So, I got my 10 G2 a few days ago, bought it for €150 ($200) and I gotta say that I am very impressed. The device itself is sturdy and well build, the screen is excellent and responses well to touch (as far as android goes). The design is nice and the specs are impressive. I must say that the firmware could do with some upgrading though, and I can´t wait for a custom firmware. The Appslib is not all that good and the lack of Android Market is prominent. Word around the block is that Ice Cream Sandwich will run on most older devices, so it will be interesting to see if this turns out to be true and how it will flow on the 10 G2. At the moment I am trying to root the OS and hope this will improve things until a custom firmware arrives. I can sincerely recommend this tablet though, especially for the retail price. I suspect that the 10 G2 will become a hit and that will hopefully lead to a lot of support and custom tweaks. If you are thinking about buying one, do it.

I saw the post on the release of this on the Arctablet blog, but can't find the market which the post says is available. We have a custom app that needs to be installed through the market to work.
Has anyone seen the rom?
It seems that the creators of the custom rom have some delay.
I read somewhere that the rom will be ready somewhere this month.
A few years ago I got a MIO P550 pda; there was someone who created a custom rom for it to enable windows mobile 6.1 on this device.
The creator of that ROM posted somewhere that it was coming very soon.
I waited over a year until it was ready. (And still it was not 100% complete).
I hope that the creators of the custom rom for the Arnova 10 G2 will work faster than the creator of the rom for my Mio device.
I would like to thank people that spend their time for creating custom roms for our devices. It seems that it's not always easy to do.
And they surely deserve respect for it.
We can only wait and have patience.
I'm looking everyday on the net to see if I can find a link to it, so when it's ready and the link isn't posted here yet (because a lot of others are searching to, I guess) I will post it here.
Arnoa 10 g2
I too bought an Arnova 10g2 and although so farI am pleased with this sub £200 tablet I am too desperately trying to find a root and/or custom firmware.
In the mean time I will have to perserver with trying to add google apps.
I thought I should be able to connect this in debugging mode plug it into my pc and us superoneclick to root but so far my pc fails to identify its driver!
I have installed the google developer usb drivers but no joy and I haven't found out what he button configuration is for the boot menu like my galaxy s, do i assume that I need a specific Arnova driver or am I missing something?
It seems that the root has been delayed again. It appears the devs have other more important tablets to root before our arnova g2 10. I guess we are gonna have to take it upon ourselves to Leeann how to root. If anyone is interested in learning our trying just PM me and we can figure it out.

Yes, we now have a working custom firmware to add Android Market support and root to the Arnova 10 G2, it should be released in the coming weeks.
This was posted a month ago......so don't get it.....if the firmware is working, why don't post it
Let there be ROOT!!!!
The reason for this thread was to maybe get one of our wonderful devs here at xda to maybe help us arnova g2 owners out. I am looking into how to root as we speak. I will work hard on trying to get us a root and custom firmware ASAP. To answer your question about why the devs won't release what they have already is. I believe its not fully running. Its their project and they can do whatever they choose with it. I always believed in sharing and letting the community help out with bugs and such, but that's just me. I hope to have something close to root or even full root ASAP.

What you'll need to do is download the Ace Hack Kit, but unfortunately it has been suspended due to mistreatment on the forums. So you'll have to find another method of downloading it, or I'll ask him if I can post it.
After having your phone rooted, you can THEN go into CWM and flash your custom ROM
U can download it from the Desire HD forum, its the same

You mistakingly got thanked for that - lucky dog.
Read the "Effen Manual". From what I recall seeing in the hack kit thread the password should be in there. This was to ensure users were READING
Also, make sure you read the FAQ section in the "effin manual" since that will provide vital information regarding where the password is in the hack kit folder.
If you still need the most up to date hack kit PM me and I can provide it to you.
I just dont understand why the download was taken off. All he has to do is no longer support it and not respond to questions/answers that he may deem as unfit for the development section.
From what i read in the thread it appears there was just a simple misunderstanding as far as the use of the development forum rather than using the Q/A section along with a user questioning the possibility that the hack kit is not perfect.

This x1298540928756 (however it's his software and he can do with it as he pleases)
However it looks like JSL's procedure essentially does the same thing, but it's not in a "1 step" GUI like attn1's was. It's more closely resembles versions of the hack kit before attn1 started the GUI
Edit: I bet this (http://www.xda-developers.com/android/how-to-root-the-htc-desire-hd/) irked him too. A) no credit to attn1 in this article B) Let's be honest, how many times have we seen attn1 tell people to stop watching videos and read the effen manual?

XDA = development site, not hold my hand I'm a noob help me site. It's because of complaining like this that got the development for the hack kit and attn1 to stop in the first place. If you think rooting this phone is impossible, then stop now before you destroy your phone. The link to do it the old fashion way was posted above, please read it, learn it and apply it if rooting still seems like something you wanna do. Educating yourself before you destroy your phone shouldn't be that hard or that much to ask. I can't wait to see the butt hurt response from this...more and more the Inspire forums are being overrun with these type of threads...I understand why attn1 got fed up.

Yes, attn1's hack kit was the 'easiest' method available. Hopefully, if he can get some assistance with supporting it, he'll re-release it (follow thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1377119&page=3) In the mean time, you can go here (http://driphter.com/index.php?topic=3867.0) and follow the process described (which has been suggested multiple times in this thread). This is essentially the way attn1's hack kit started, before he started making it idiot proof (not calling anyone names, that's just how it is). Many, many users were able to successfully root/s-off using attn1's 'long' method before he started developing his GUI, but if this seems too over-the-top for you then maybe you should rethink the idea of rooting. Hopefully attn1 will re-release his easy to use hack kit, but with the frustration he's dealing with having to put up with users who want to be spoon fed this information is understandable, and I don't blame him in the least bit for pulling it - whether temporary or permanent
IMHO - there should be no 'root method for dummies'. You're messing with integral parts of the system when you're doing this and there is potential to permanently damage your phone. If you don't want to learn what the process is actually accomplishing, you shouldn't be doing it in the first place. Is there a specific reason you want root/s-off?

This has been covered, there is no need to provide anymore links or reiterate what has been said in this thread numerous times or in any of these "OMGZ WHERE DID THE HACK KIT GOOO HELPP MEEE" threads. i am not sure if i am posting this in the right spot but here is my question has anyone been able to root the new samsung galaxy tab 2 7.0 wifi GT-P3113 8gb running ICS 4.0.3 from factory ??? any help would be great even if it is to guide me to the right forum thanks in advance
anybody? trying to root this device.
I just bought the tab 2 7.0. It's pretty nice. I requested that we get a section for it here at xda http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1617079
Does anyone know which Mod I can contact about this?
+1 for new forum... so Far loving this thing
Just got mine today, wouldn't you know it, first thing I do is look here for root even though it was just released two days ago.
Please add my vote for a new section.
I am in line too
I am in the same boat. I have tried every root process out there available for dual core Samsung devices and came up with nothing. Two things I would love to have for this device 1. Root(so I can restore my game data from my bigger tab) 2. A Bone stock ICS ROM.....I guess I should say a recovery as well so I can load a stock ICS ROM onto there.
Mine is on it's way from J&R and it's going to eventually be torn apart and put in my dash of my Nissan Altima to replace my headunit... but I def. want to root it before then, hope it can get it's own section and some dev's can root and ROM it!
i'm liking this tab, except of course lack of root yet (want to restore app data from TiBu!), but of course it's super early to expect it. i also don't like that tablet-mode statusbar/softkeys can't be hidden, so when I play fullscreen videos the buttons are always there. other than that, i am a happy camper.
agree, the notification bar always there takes some getting used to.
this needs root badly. apps2sd would be huge, among other things.
*sigh*
I am wondering how the root works an I am positive there are plenty of threads explaining this, my quesiotn is would the root be an exploit for ICS? or it is specific to Samsung?

It could go either way really. Some of the things in stock ICS are still there on Samsung's custom build of it. An exploit for either of the two is worth trying. The real problem is, how many Samsung ICS devices are there? Anyone look into trying whatever worked on the Galaxy Nexus for the Tab 2?

Sorry for the double post, but this is a method of root that could be an Android wide thing and not rely on a specific exploit. I know they use this for things like the Transformer Prime as well as the Acer A200, so I figured anyone with some development knowledge could take a look at it as I am clueless on that front.
Forgot to include the link, duh.

I tried a few things from the Acer side as well and came up with nothing. The only official ICS devices for Sammy are Galaxy nexus, and one of the galaxy S II variants. Most times they are rooted through Odin first. This device needs some pub so we can grab a dev or two's attention.

I was thinking of using odin to flash the CWM for a plus 7.0. The possibility of bricking my device and not having backup to flash is holding me back though.
Once we have CWM rooting it should be as easy as flashing a zip file with SU included. Right? I'm in no way a dev, just a guy who thinks he knows what is going on.

There is a system dump of our device floating around here, but using odin is the way to go and using another devices odin method setup as a template is probably our best bet.
If we can install CWM, which would have to be built, then we could theoretically flash a superuser.zip, but I think the superuser.zip is a little more complicated than installing just the superuser.apk. I am pretty sure it also includes busy box and binaries, but I am also not a developer so I am just giving it my best educated guess.
I just got mine a few days ago and I will try to odin if you can find a compatible file. I will most certainly lie to microcenter about it being a brick to get a new one.....Just like I did with sprint. I told them it said something about an update and when I clicked it I lost power when I powered it back on it kept looping. So lets get craking on this
As you guy probably know though, you'll want to be very careful with odin. If something goes wrong or it is flashed the wrong way, you will totally screw your device up.
