Could ROM Manager fake Flash Clockworkmod recovery be responsible for bricking phones on LG update? Let me explain what I mean - Lots of people, like myself, installed ROM Manager and its CWM because we did not know it's not real Flash. Then We switched to "real" CWM. Now the question is when we do normal stock recovery in order to get official GB update, does this CWM of ROM manager still remains in the phone? If so, could it be that it contributed to the troubles updating through LG tool? How can I make sure I removed it from the phone?
Thanks!
Yes. Many people have confirmed that not having the stock recovery on the device is a road to Bricksville. Even though you are fake flashed there is code inserted somewhere to redirect to the fake flash, and the recovery images for flash (normally installed every boot) have been deleted or renamed. You should flash stock recovery with NVFlasher to make sure you are back at a clean stock recovery before using the LG Update tool.
Thanks but what I mean is that AFTER I realized it's fake flash I installed "real" CWM. So when I do stock on this "real", does CWM rom manager still remains in the phone and how can I remove it?

so I am a little confused I used CWM to make a backup before I did anything to my phone. And I was already on the 2.3.3 lg update. So if I restore that I should be back to stock and CWM should still be there right? But lets say LG comes out with another update (Doubtful) and I want to use it I should use the NVflash to reture the phone to stock? if I use NVflash will that put me back on froyo 2.2.2 or GB 2.3.3?
Also I used rom manager to make a backup of the rom I was on which was the stock rooted so is that fake or what the hell is fake? is it the first option in rom manager the CWM recovery? is it the same if I use CWM stock recovery? in cwn itself? Oh I am so confused someone help me
ROM Manager cannot flash directly to the phone so it "fake flashes" CWM recovery. It only installs a few files to the system so that when you run recovery the stock recovery runs an "upate" and that launches CWM recovery from your SD card. Just return the phone to GB 2.3.3 stock and be happy with it. If you restore using CWM it will remain there, so you should use NVFlash to restore stock recovery also.

I have BOTH - CWM AND CWM through the ROM Manager. So if use NV Flash to go to stock, is the CWM from ROM manager still in the phone and how can I remove it?
Thanks!
so what I am getting out of this is rom manager is crap and dont use it. If you just use CWM to do your flashing and backups and recoverys you should be ok.

Thanks but my questions are:
1. If I go to stock using NV Flasher, is ROM Manager's CWM still going to be in the phone, since I have BOTH?
2. Can it BRICK my phone if I do the LG update then?
3. How can I make sure I removed BOTH - NV Flash CWM AND ROM Manager CWM?
I tried some tweaks that I liked and wanted them on my phone but none of them seemed to work.
Do any of you know any tweaks and mods that would work with ROgers stock Rooted ROM ?
like battery percentage tweak and 14 panel toggle ?
I also have CWM installed.
Any insight on anything would be appreciated
How U Do Dat?
I have the same model, haven't gotten as far as you though. I'm rooted. period. How'd you flash cwm? I tried Doomlord v3 no luck.
Easiest way to flash cwm is download rom manager. Then choose to install cwm recovery for the tmobile sgs2
Will it affect anything when (and if) I try to restore my stock rom from CWM?
Its not clear what your asking. You can do a nandroid backup of your stock rom in cwm. Ajd restore it anytime you want.
I'm on rogers stock rooted and I have the battery mod and toggles..
Just have to read a bit, it was simple

A nandroid backup backs up your rom exactly how it is.
I have a question about CWM. I installed it on my stock rom and now it says unable to mount /system. will i be able to flash other custom roms? and if i can how to make a backup of current rom?
p.s. i made a backup of all my apps via Titanium Backup Pro, and if i install it on new rom will it be able to restore those apps there? and does flashing a kernel and rom changes my baseband version?
choose the backup option from cwm menu.

And do you know an answer for other questions?
no you need to re-install all apps from the android market.
after re-installation, you can restore your saved data like high scores/achievements and all.

The cwm doesnt work for stock roms because tj style has clearly mentioned that the recovery wont work custom or stock rom using rfs file systems.....you cant do backup using cwm..you can only backup boot and recovery image...to backup apps use appmonster pro......the apps will be backed up in your sd then after flashing your new rom you can install them from sd....you can flash custom roms...
any other doubts post it here
please press thanks if i have helped you

That happen to me..ill guide you to what i did.. i think you miss out on restartiong phone before flashing cwm..just flash your phone again with original stock.. let it boot and restar..then add the root zip and restar in recovery..update it and let it boot normally.. restar again and flash cwm with odin.. and let it boot..

no, because stock rom has rfs file system, so cwm cant make a backup of stock systems, but after you flash the custom rom you can create a backup of any custom rom that supports ext4 file system... and if you want to make a backup of your installed apps use titanium backup, it worked best for me, and you can use it on any rom...
whatever appmonster can do, titanium can do as well...
why have two apps, when one does the entire job (and even more)??
also, backups made by titanium (apk as well as data) are compressed...so you get a little more space on your card...
Let's say I want to flash a rom and made a backup thru CWM of my stock rom will I be able to keep root if I flash it back to the stock rom ?
II'm doing this cause I care most about no auto brightness issue than the actual advantage to go with a custom rom.
Thanks
Why don't you just root your stock ROM then? You need to be rooted to flash CWM recovery anyways..

If your ROM is already rooted, and you're restoring it from CWM, yes. If you're using fastboot to re-flash the stock ROM, no, you'll have to re-root it.
I'm kind of confused about what you're asking, though. Can you give more specific details? Are you going to flash a different ROM and try to flash the stock ROM, or parts of it, on top of the new ROM? I wouldn't do that unless you're very sure of what you're doing.
hi,i am using stock rom running 4.0.4,i had it rooted too and now i had two queries
1)Is rom manager compatible with Atrix 2??
im asking this because when i open it, it shows u need to install CWM recovery...but no option in that responds...not even intall cwm (1st option in menu)....so i installed CWM using atrix boot strapper app and now still rom manager is not detecting CWM..please help
2)after installing CWM, i had backup my present stock rom..so if i flash a new rom now will that CWM and back up still exist??(because we will wipe data which will remove everyhting right??)
for suppose if i flash jelly bean rom and if i dont like it...can i restore my previous stock rom without bricking my device??
thanks for u r help

1) Rom manager is not compatible with Atrix 2. I would not use it. Why do you need it anyway??
You can use Atrix Bootstrapper to go into CWM recovery . Rest can be done there. Or you can use Boot Menu Manager.
2)Of course! it will still be there! the backup is saved on your SD Card. So as long as you don't format your SD Card. It will be there.

Rom Manager does work with Atrix2. If you're on Stock ICS, you can install CWM on every boot, then flash the Bionic recovery through Rom Manager. That will allow you to use the 1 touch backup in RM, just hit backup rom and everything does what it's supposed to.
Here is the CWM on every boot for Stock ICS.

2)will the CWM recovery exist after flashing new rom or i need to install it again??
when i restore to stock fom JB, it means downgrading the firmware right??
so will there be a chance of bricking or is it same to restore anytime from any version??

No, your Recovery will be wiped after you flash a new rom, but you can install it again and restore your ROM.
But when restoring a rom, make sure you ARE ON THE ROM you are restoring.
E.g. If you flash JB and want Stock ICS back with your backup. First flash the Stock ICS from RSD and then restore your backup from CWM on it.
Or Vice-Versa.
@41rw4lk, Thanks for rectifying that. I did not bother with Rom Manager much.

I don't think any recovery exist after flashing a new rom. We have a locked bootloader, so we can't replace the stock recovery.img, all of our recoveries hijack the boot process to work. CM10 and PA I believe have a built in recovery, and that's about as close as you'll get to having a recovery exist after flashing a rom.
As far as restoring from JB, I believe you can downgrade to ICS, but you'll have to look at the JB thread to be certain. I'm on AT&T so I haven't had an opportunity to try JB (officially). CM10 is based on JB, but for our phone with the locked bootloader, it's more of a pseudo experience and is based on our ICS framework.
As for bricking, there is always a chance to brick, that's part of the mod game, but if you read and pay attention to what you have and what you're doing, you'll be alright.

UNLESS you have AT&T phone you should be just fine with ref lashing the ICS.
YES. there is a big problem if you are not on a ROM you are restoring.

You need to use the CWM on every boot setup, the Atrix2Bootstrap alone won't do.

Yes. I will say though, if you're on an AT&T branded phone with AT&T firmware, do NOT try to flash the new JB FXZ. It doesn't matter who your carrier is, it matters what firmware your phone is using. So, if you're on AT&T then you need to make sure that the things you flash are for AT&T, or else you will brick and that will be then end of that.

CM10
PA
Numa
MIUI (had battery issues, but I think they got it all worked out)
there's a few, you'll just have to look. Most of the time, if something is not meant for AT&T, the devs will post in the description that it isn't compatible. If you want stock ICS back at anytime, you can do yourself a favor and make a backup of your stock ICS all setup the way you like it, so you can restore if needed. If all else fails, there is an Official ICS FXZ that will get you back to stock ICS.

You're killing me smalls. You're on ICS already, you're not downgrading anything, nor can you downgrade ie. Gingerbread. There is no Official JB for AT&T, so that's not an issue. CM10 is a JB based rom built on an ICS frame, (for our phone at least), and again, you're not downgrading.
To make a back up, boot in to CWM or whatever recovery you're using (not stock), and click backup. You might hit up the noob thread to get an idea of the terminology and basics for our device. Not trying to be rude, but you're running yourself in circles. You got to walk before you can run.
