Good enough for a replacement? - Thunderbolt General

So on my phone the power/volume buttons have begun to sunk in, I have some pretty excessive light leakage from the buttons (By excessive I mean I can now see it in pretty much broad daylight) and now I just realized I have a dead pixel near the middle of the screen. Do you thing big V will warrant me a replacement?
(I believe I already know the answer but I know some people here work for Verizon and just wanted to know their opinions on the situation before taking my phone back to stock)

I had something similar happen to my Touch Pro back in the day. Yes, unless there is actually physical damage then they will replace it under the manufacturers one year warranty.

I would sent it back in a heartbeat, buttons that you can't reach are a pretty good reason to replace.

Sent Mine Back for same reason. Had to talk to a few people over phone but I got it Replaced. New one Has No Problems Now

The corner of the button part is coming off

i just noticed the corner near the home button has a tiny bend that starts seperated from the layer beneath it....it looks like an old screen protector got a little bend in the corner but that is the surface of the phone!!! is there anyway to replace it or i cant do anything just waiting for it to come off?
it is ridiculous how an expensive phone like touch pro uses such low quality plastic that can actually get bend and i feel really helpless now =(
Yeah, mine is doing that too. Except it's on the "back" button side. It doesn't really affect anything. I'm just worried that if something gets caught on it, it might peel back further.
Nothing can make this phone suck though! It rules!!!
Yeah, unfortunately the TP/Diamond are suffering from some manufacturing defects, probably because it's a "new" design style for HTC. My TP has a touchscreen defect that conveniently showed up after the two-week return/exchange period.
Protective case, learn to love it.
Do you guys think they would be willing to replace a new case if i pay them?
My device shows the same behavior since this morning. Its about 1mm, so nothing to worry about and it seems to stick pretty well on the rest, thinking about rasping the edge off a bit to make it smoother
Is this getting worse on yours? Last post is 3 weeks ago .......
Any chance someone would post a picture of this? I'm thinking about the Fuze, but I can't stomach another HTC phone full of hardware flaws.

If it's really a defect, they should replace it without you paying them.
Considering that ATT offers a 1 year manufacture warranty. I can't see why you wouldn't be able to return the phone and get a replacement. It is obviously a problem with the design of the phone.
It wouldn't hurt to try and go to an ATT store and see if you can get a new FUZE!!!
Well, as we all know, HTC always claims that they don't know anything about the problems we address to them.
When I first complained to their support that I am having GPS lag, they told me I was the only one in the whole world suffering that problem, so it must be related to the software I installed.
Luckily they can not deny hardware problem so easily, as long as it is clear that there wher enot caused by misuse.
I don't have this particular problam, yet, but as I am already on my thrid TP (the first two had a defect hardware keyboard and black paint falling off), I would like to get some photo evidence of the users here, who unfortunately have the button part coming off.
That way we can show to HTC that more users have that problem, before we send back our devices, and maybe negotiate a direct replace, instead of rapair procedure, which takes up to 2 weeks.

My AT&T Fuze started doing the same thing after just two months. However, the bent plastic corner of the clear laminate was RAZOR sharp. My wife went to answer the phone and it resulted in a very serious slash to her cheek. This defect resulted in a very serious cut to her face!!
What is even more disappointing is that AT&T said that warranty does not cover this issue and said that the only way I was getting a replacement was if I paid the $125 deductible from the [email protected]*t insurance they scammed me on. I would have thought for $5/mo. I was completely covered.
The AT&T customer care rep was rude and not willing to help. A request to speak to his manager didn't get me far either. Even after I threatened to switch all 30 phones at my company back to Verizon Wireless they didn't seem to care.
At last I called HTC America directly this morning, explained my issue and they turned me over to a product specialist who told me that they know of no such issue. Despite my insistence they refused to replace the phone. Therefore, I WILL cancel all 30 lines my company has with AT&T and go back to Verizon...I hear the Samsung Omnia is not a bad smartphone!!

Fuze - Paint Chipping?

I have had my Fuze for about 2 weeks. Never dropped it or anything, in fact I baby my phones to the point that the wife makes fun of me for doing so . Anyway, right below the slide-out keyboard, I noticed two small chips about an inch apart from each other. One below the wifi key and one below the internet key. It also looks like the inner lip of that part is also starting to show wear. This is under light to medium use, mind you. I am thinking about exchanging it, however if this is a common problem, I would rather just get a different phone.
Add in the fact it took me a few days to get the phone exactly how I want it. Anyone else having this issue?
I don't think they would admit it if they were.
...just kidding.
As a matter of fact, I found those two chips!
I will have my phone 3 weeks come friday...
You mean you have chips in the exact same spot?
Unless you are withing 30 days, cosmetic damages are not considered valid exchange reasons. Hope you have insurance.
I only had the phone 2 weeks. the guy at the ATT store said to come back tomorrow when a manager was there to do an exchange. Even if I had problems, I paid with American Express. My problem is if it is a design flaw, a replacement would only be a temp. solution.
After reading this thread I looked at mine, which I've had for around two weeks and I also see a small chip right under the 'internet' key.
It's matte black so it does stand out, but I had to look for it.
WTF??
Chip under PTT button
Oh wow, I just noticed a chip right under the internet button. It seems is positioned right under the left side of the PTT when the slider is closed. I baby my phone like nobody's business. Had the Fuze since launch.
Well, if it is a design flaw (which it seems to be) it seems like it is something HTC needs to handle. Exchanging one from ATT will only result in the same thing happening.
yeah i have it too but its soooo small to notice right now and i have had my fuze for about 2 weeks too.
If anybody else is having this issue let us know. This is something that needs to be brought to HTC's attention, especially for a $400 phone.
Mine is also chipping under the OK, CV, spacebar, and Wifi
I am thinking about returning it to AT&T, but hate to have to add everything all over again, especially if the new one will do the same thing. I contacted HTC and suggested I just exchange it...anyone else going to do that as well?

I got my Fuze from Amazon less than 2 weeks ago, and am noticing the exact same thing on mine, though the one under the WiFi is the only one you can really see, and even it's hardly noticeable (I never even noticed this until I saw this thread, that should give you an idea of how TINY they area). I'll keep an eye on it, but don't plan to exchange it unless this spreads or the chips get worse.
Edit-I baby mine like crazy too, as do most of you on here it seems. That fact, and the fact it's happening in the SAME spots on everybody's Fuze says to me it's a manufacturing defect, and hopefully this is the extent of it. Thankfully so far it's basically unoticeable, though on a phone at this price level there shouldn't be any such defects, no matter how tiny they may be.
I too hope this is the extent of the defect. If it does get worse, I will just contact HTC and explain the situation.
I second this:
under the internet key, calendar key, very tiny spot under wifi.
As i have babied mine, seems like an design issue as well.
Looking from the side profile, you can see that the surface underneath the volume key are touching the side, so it may be the cause that scratches the surface. Can someone starts off a petition?
I already contacted HTC about this issue, however for now the only option would be to exchange it where you bought it. As I mentioned before, if it is (and I would assume it is) a design flaw, it will just happen again with a new one. The only thing I can think of is waiting to see how extensive the damage becomes and if it gets real bad, to return it to HTC.
I gave HTC a link to this thread as well to show them others are having the same issue.
Same problem here on my Fuze, under the Wifi button. I've also had my phone for a little over two weeks and take extremely good care of it. For the WiFi button area of the phone, the only thing I can see is that this is right where the top line of the lower controls (like the line that separates the screen from the home button) hits. And the phone appears to have enough give that when you push down on the home key it constantly hits there. Thats what I am guessing is doing it.
Just a thought...
Hey guys I am super anal when it comes to my phones so I believe I qualify to make an educated guess about this. lol. First of all I noticed the same exact "chips" very soon after I recieved my phone.
At first I too believed them to be wear marks but after further examination I came to the conclusion that they must be production flaws, such as break off points of the plastic mold or something.
I believe this because I simply havent used the phone enough to cause the marks not to mention the mark under the space bar doesnt ever touch the back of the screen. Seeing as everyone has the marks almost exactly in the same place gives more credence to it being a production flaw.
Now moving on to the more frustrating and serious flaw. If you guys look real close I bet you find dust pieces under the glass and against the lcd. I can live with the chips, but I can't stand the dust.
I'm on my 3rd Fuze for warranty reasons, and the 2nd one I got was returned because of this problem. Does anyone have a good camera to post a macro photo for illustration? I would do it but my current handset does not have this issue (and i hope it never does!)

glass lifting

Hello,
Sorry, I accidentally posted this in the Desire HD forum first (not that it should really matter of course).
I've started to notice that the glass on my Inspire 4G is making a slight snapping noise and moving a bit sometimes when I press on the corners, almost as if the glass is lifting slightly over time. Once I press the corners, it is fine for a few minutes, then I can do it again, hearing the snapping noises.
I want to root my phone and install RCMix HD, but I don't want to void my warranty if the glass is going to lift off my screen in a few months. Is anyone else seeing this issue? Other than this and poor battery life, I absolutely love the phone. It's a HUGE improvement over the xdandroid experience on my Touch Pro 2.
Anyone else with this problem?

Yes, others have complained about the screen lifting. If you are within the 30 day return policy, you can try to exchange it. I don't think it'll completely come off over a long period of time.
yea, i didn't notice till after my 30 days were up. Still trying to find time to call HTC about it, Bugs the crap out of me! I'm sure it will lift to the point of dirt and moisture getting under there though. Damn tape!

If you bought the phone from at&t, they can do a warranty exchange or like you said, call HTC and see what they can do. If you rooted your phone, you need to bring it back to factory original state prior to returning it to either HTC or at&t.
Radio Shack, i bet they'd tell me to jump in a lake. AT&T told me to call HTC

LOL. HTC will do a warranty exchange. Not sure if rat shack will care.
If I do bring it in for a warranty exchange, will the next one just do the same thing? Is this common to all Inspires, or are most alright?
I know others have complained about the screen lifting or moving near the search key. Others have also complained about the lcd making funny colors while pressing on the search key. I guess its a hit or miss.

Mine is also doing it
Sometimes it gets really bad and so annoying knowing that later through normal use eventually the glass will come off and or get all kinds of dust/lint under the glass.
I got mine @ Costco on launch day and they mentioned 90 days to replace if defective and after 90 days that I would have to deal with HTC for warranty? Is this true has anyone else dealt with Costcos wireless, will they replace it?
Funny thing is on launch day my brand new Inspire had white specks of lint under the glass and within the week I got it replaced and they agreed its defective.
So this could be an uprising defect.
sent from my Inspireâ„¢ 4G via XDA App
I bought mine directly from AT&T, and am still in my buyer's remorse period. So my biggest decision is whether to get another Inspire 4G or to switch to another phone. I love this phone, but don't want to get another if it is going to have the same problem. However, I don't know what other phone I would get in its place.
My corner by the search button is now visibly elevated. Either I just now noticed this, or it is rapidly getting worse. At this rate, I feel the glass would be off completely by next month.

There is no lifting or moving on mine, though I can get a tiny bit of distortion if I hold down the search key firmly, however, you really have to press hard to get that, in normal use it is fine.
Edit-I guess some of this is like the patient who tells his doctor "it hurts when I move my arm this weird way", to which the doctor responds "Don't move it that way"
Damn... Mine is doing the same thing. This is bothersome...
It's not noticeable for me, unless I concentrate on it while I'm pressing on it. Also, if I hit the search button like others here, it discolors the screen.
Are there people out there who this doesn't happen to?
I'm considering "upgrading" to the Atrix. I really love the Inspire, but if it's just going to fall apart or get dust under the screen, I won't be able to handle it. The battery life of the Atrix entices me too, but there's just something special about the Inspire...
How long is the warranty on our phones? I suppose I could just replace it a few times before the warranty is up, but if my last replacement has the same issue later... I just don't know.
I sure wish that AT&T would have nabbed the Sensation. Then I would be switching right now, no question.
It's a "feature"
Mine does it, but it doesn't effect the phone. It's in a case so I don't even notice it now.

I wouldn't consider that an "upgrade". The manufactures warranty lasts a year.
Seems the only solution to fix this problem is to hit the search button with a hammer xD.
All jokes a side as long as there is no dust and the glass isn't seriously falling out of the phone, I would just chalk it up as normal. Every phone has its quirks.

Hence the quotes around "upgrade"
Anyway, I agree that every phone has its quirks, and that's fine. For me, the relatively short battery life of the Inspire is a quirk. But a lifting screen isn't a quirk, but a straight-up defect. A defect should never be considered "normal", even if it happens to all phones of a certain model.
I'm going to go and exchange the phone this afternoon. If the display model at the store is okay, with no lifted screen, I will go with the Inspire again. If the display model is lifted as well, I may go with the Atrix. Hopefully the bootloader protection will be broken someday, and development will flourish.
It really is a bummer for me though, as I really do love my inspire.
By the way, just got off the phone with HTC to see if this was a known issue that was being fixed in manufacturing. Apparently, my representative had never heard of the problem. Must be so slight that most people aren't noticing the problem.
Anyway, It sounds like it isn't being actively worked on to fix the issue.
If i push the glass in the corner of the search key, i can feel the glass mive and it creeks too.

My right lower corner bleeds out a little if I push on it real hard and so does the left side but screen is not elevated at all. it's as flat as it can be. There is no dust trapped. This phone is like 1 month old. I also went to the at&t store and checked out to the display model and all are the same but none had the screen elevated.
This may be an individual issue. But I also tried to push the atrix and captivate on the right lower corner and they dont bleed.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA Premium App
Talk about a pita, I have been transferred to everyone under the sun at htc and at&t with no one telling me anything but send it in. I don't know about you, but I can't live without my phone for that long due to work.
Should've bought it at Best Buy. Geek squad protection plan is expensive but very well worth it for oh crap moments or times like these.

Exchange for small problems?

Hi everyone. I predordered a white ATT HTC One X from Radioshack and picked it up on Sunday, May 6. It's a great phone but from the start I had some serious overheating problems which resolved after a few days and a reset, but then came back, and then mysteriously just went away. The BACK button's light is also dimmer than the other 2 buttons, and there are two small 'pinholes' near the multitasking button through which light shines through. The holes are about the size of a few pixels, and are in the actual black bezel underneath the screen. There also seems to be slight light leakage on the right side of the phone near the bottom from the buttons' lights. Even without the overheating problem, would these other problems be enough to warrant an exchange from Radioshack? I just don't want to look like a selfish idiot demanding an exchange just because of some small problems. Thoughts?
Its my opinion that these problems although small, if they bother you, you should exchange it. If the display model doesnt have those same little 'holes', which it shouldnt since i havent seen one with that problem, then thats proof enough its a defect and they should exchange it.
OK, and what do you think the possibility is that the new phone will have any defects? If it does, do they allow further exchanging until satisfaction?

how to tell if your screen has been replaced

Is there any way to check whether your screen has been replaced other than the obvious of taking it apart?
Reason I'm asking is because i bought a phone from kijiji and it was in immaculate condition and while it seems to be in great condition, the battery life is horrible.
I checked it thorougly before handing the money over, and like I said, immaculate condition.
One thing I did notice however in the morning when powering it on in my room in the dark, just a few seconds before the screen goes on, there are a couple of (what seem to be) blotches on the LCD screen and I wonder if it's not some kind of screen damage (ie - water maybe? or something along those lines). But it is screen related.
I have 5 months of warranty left (checked with the carrier, scanning ESN #).
Sounds like the screen has been damaged from what you have said. I would definitely send it back and get a new one since you are still within the warranty timeframe. I can't stand it when I notice something like that on my phone and it would bother me to not have it fixed. If you are sure that the screen is damaged in some way, then definitely send it back for a replacement.

You're right, I do plan on sending it in.
Was hoping one or a few of you could check your phones for me and look for something similar?
All you have to do is, power off your phone, go in a dark room, power the phone on and see if during the power up if any of you have any blotches under the glass on the LCD.
It shows up after the Darth Vader looking helmet logo in the Darkside Evo ROM, the screen goes grey but there's enough light inside to show the screen.
I'd really appreciate it if any of you could do this for me, plus it'd be good to know if I'm just a one off or if hours have this and have better battery life than I do... really wondering what's going on here.
