Hi, I I tried searching for this issue but couldn't find any thread specific to my problem. In darker lighting and on dark images or video I notice some bright blotches in the left center of my screen. It's a pain watching videos with it, but does not impede use of the device. Forgive me if this is common light bleed, but I thought that was exclusive to the edge of the device. Is there any fix I can do on my own or should I try and rma?
I would personally suggest an RMA, that doesn't look right somehow...
U have heavy lightbleed on the top and bottem left side of your screen.
But those blobs in the middel should not be there.
I would suggest a RMA

I had those on my 16GB that I RMA'ed....now my 32GB that I got as an exchange is starting to do it as well.
Starting to regret giving Asus another chance. Never trusted their products before and with good reason......
Thanks guys I'm going to try and return it to Fry's and get the new samsung galaxy tab instead.
You're the third person I've seen with this issue in the past week which is an alarming trend to say the least.
Did it develop over time? Was it there in the beginning? Check your serial number on the box for the revision code (starts with B, EX: B5O, B4O, B6O), which is it?
Definitely RMA. It's unacceptable when there's tons of light bleed on the edges but when it's in the center that's just ****ed.
Looks like I'm too late to return, I'll have to RMA. The serial number is B4O, and I suddenly noticed it, though it's quite possible that it happened over time, I don't recall it being there when I got it.
I am having the same issue, though not as bad. I will try to post pics when I get time.
I just can't decide if a RMA is worth it.... sigh.
My Serial starts with B4O as well.
Edit: Is this actually light bleed or something else? It looks like the IPS screen was impacted before install.
I just sent one back for having a white blob in the middle of the screen about 4mm in diameter I assumed that was light bleed of some description there was plenty round the edges too..
The really worrying thing is the replacement that has just arrived, if I apply light pressure on back of tablet about two inches above asus logo it looks like something is pushing against the screen you get all those rings and what looks like a rainbow effect. I noticed it when docked and moving the screen back and forth the same effect occurs.. I never saw this on my other one, is this just cos the unit is thin and flexes or is it another badly put together tab?
I love this product, why cant it just work

I only notice mine at near full brightness, and with the room pitch black. They are pretty small too. I think I may just try to live with it, as it seems RMA isn't a 100% fix either. I'm afraid I'll be without it for 10-15 business days, and possibly end up with something worse!
yep mine seems to be much worse

That's ridiculous. I shouldn't be afraid of more problems after sending my unit in as a RMA. I think I am just going to hold off and reevaluate the issues in a few months. I'm just worried that the dust in my screen will continue to get worse and worse.
Can anyone speak for a device with a different serial? Also, should I wait and see if ASUS actually fixes it, or RMA as soon as possible? On a side note I thought for RMA they would send me another one and I'd ship this one back when I got the other one, does ASUS not do this?

What's your S/N prefix on the replacement?
This is how it will play out:
1. You call Asus and set up an RMA with the extremely rude customer service.
2. You pay return shipping (about $14-$20) to ship it back to them.
3. They take two weeks to wait for parts and then a week to repair and send it back to you.
4. They end up replacing the LCD and not doing a replacement for the whole unit. You get a "repair", not a "replacement".
5. If you so much as leave a single ding on the unit the service center will mark it OOW (Out of Warranty) and claim no liability for repairs because you damaged it.
At this point the light bleed is so bad you really have no choice.

So at this point my options are to RMA and most likely not get a fix, keep it and try to ignore the lightbleed, wait for better manufactoring/repair and then RMA, or sell it for $180 on Gazelle or maybe more on Ebay/Amazon and use that to buy the thrive or tab instead. I'm leaning towards the first and maybe the last, but I'd be paying about $750 on the last one (calculating new tablet price by adding old price and subtracting the difference.). Suggestions?
Just noticed this on my transformer. It's barely a month old! Gonna take it down to the service centre tomorrow. Ridiculous.

How'd this work out for ya? I was curious how the Galaxy camp was doing so been reading through the Galaxy 10.1 forums, geez I thought we had problems, lots of similar complaints over there about build quality, keyboard lag, reboots, etc and worse of all evidently alot of them have what they call Newtons Rings effect on the tab where the top glass presses against the LCD and makes water looking blotches some of them over half the screen and it changes with temperature lulz. I have seen that stuff before on anything with an Otterbox Defender case with that built in screen protector, those always do that and it's hideous I couldn't live with my tablet doing that.
I have just sent my tf101 back for the newton rings effect you describe.. Maybe galaxy tab ain't the answer either then

For those of you that had your g2x replaced by T-mobile (they sent you a replacement via ups with a prepaid return label), was your replacement:
1) new or refurbished
2) if refurbished, did it physically appear new or used
3) was the replacement any better in terms of less screen bleed, random reboots, freezing up, gps lock, etc?
They sent me a phone without a battery and rear cover. I'm pretty sure it was new. The manufacture date was later than my first (bought on release day). The screen bleed was better than my first one. I still get reboots and my gps doesn't get a lock. Funny thing was the gps worked like magic the first day I used my replacement G2X.
i've replace mine in two occasion.. both of them is new.. the first one came without screen bleed, but when i turn it on, it reboot call tmobile right away because i was angry. however while waiting for anogher one. it never reboot again. Second, little screen bleed but everything is perfect..
Mine was new and perfect 10/10 no problems and I'm super happy. Was having second thoughts about switching to the sensation but really glad I was able to get the replacement its amazing!
Wow...I called T-mobile last night at 5pm central time, and my replacement phone is on the UPS truck out for delivery right now. Way beyond my expectation.
Now let's see how the replacement phone is. I hope I have as much luck as you guys did.
Mine was probably a refurbished, but I don't know for sure. It's MUCH better, no random reboots, far less screen bleed, and while the gps isn't instant it's a bit faster.
I was satisfied with the replacement, and it was my first and only one.

I thought I killed my original 4/20 G2x and ordered a replacement. I ended up fixing my original, luckily because the replacement had NASTY screen bleed.
It just arrived. My old SN was 104KPDT, and the new SN is 106KPQJ...I'm assuming newer build. I rooted right away and nvflashed because in clockwork is where my screenbleed was at it's worst (black screen), so I wanted to get in there as soon as possible for comparison.
New phone has no screen bleed to speak of. I believe my old phone got worse over time, so I will have to see if this holds up in the weeks to come.
So don't let em tell you they can't replace your phone for screen bleed because any replacement will have the same problem...I can tell you first hand that they are wrong.
edit: Also, I did tell the retentions rep on the phone that although my phone had these problems to start with, they did get worse after I dropped my phone on the parking lot and damaged the case. Maybe it was due, in part, to the manner with which I presented myself, but they sent out the replacement, knowing that I had been at least partly responsible. And my conscience is clear. I have to be honest with you, I was very resistant to allow them to send me a replacement because of the numerous posts I read on this forum about getting dinged up, scratched up, used phones that were worse than they had to start with. I suppose I am lucky. I'm very sorry for those of you with that experience.
I got my phone a few days back and on full brightness I notice backlight bleed at the top left of the screen. It isnt very noticible but is nevertheless annoying. My computer LCD also has bleed at about the same spot so I know LCD's do have this problem but I am not sure if the nexus S is supposed to have it.
So anyone else has backlight bleed? Can I and should I claim warranty on this? If I claim warranty I should demand a replacement instead of repairing and putting a new LCD in it right? My phone is barely a few days old.
I have 3 dead pixels as well.
Seems like I have corner bleed as well with full brightness. Please someone comment on the quality of the i9023 display? I know dead pixels are pretty common and they dont really bother me. But I am kinda disappointed with the backlight uniformity.
That should be plenty to get you a new screen or a refurb phone. I don't have any screen bleeding on my i9023 and the SC-LCD is exceptional. Have a chat to samsung or your carrier while it's still brand new.
I don't have it. Get it replaced
Okay guys will go to the service center. I hope they accept it without much hassle.
Now as for refurbish phone, why should I be getting a refurb phone? My phone is less than a week old.
From memory, Samsung's policy doesn't involve getting you a brand new phone. They'll give you a refurbed one or change out your screen (most likely). However if you've bought it from a reseller or service provider, they might be able to offer you a new one no hassles. It all depends really, and i've not gone through it to really comment.
Just remember if you end up sending it in, don't put the back cover or battery in there and unroot and relock bootloader just in case. If you're lucky you'll get an extra back cover and battery for your troubles.

I dont have the phone rooted so thats not an issue.
I bought a sim free nexus from samsung distributor in my country. I really didnt know about this samsung policy it really stinks if true.
I dont have time to get the LCD replaced as I am leaving town next week and it kills resale value as when you sell the first thing the other person asks is if it's been repaired.
I will call the distributor tomorrow to see what "policy" they have regarding this. If I get new phone then good otherwise I will just keep using it. The problems with my LCD can only be seen with a keen eye so I really dont think it would cause a problem when selling the phone.
You'll probably be expecting a 3 - 4 week turnaround time if you send it to them (unsure about service centers and what powers they have in this) and you can have a read here. Luck of the draw most likely.
I just checked a friends iphone 4 and even that didnt have a very uniform screen at full brightness. Are you guys really sure you cannot see any bleed at full brightness in a dark room?? Not many LCD's are capable of that atleast the corners will be a bit more bright. And to be fair the nexus LCD does get really really bright on full brightness.
I think I can live with this since I barely use the phone on full brightness.
And I also searched about dead pixels, it seems many screens will have atleast one or 2 if you notice hard.
Okay strait to the point! I've got a Galaxy S2 with Android 4.0.3 bought it 4 months ago.
I accidently dropped my phone and cracked my screen on the bottom right corner. The crack went from bottom and a diagonal line up til the right side. I took a picture below.
imageshack(.)us/photo/my-images/685/20120326152703.jpg
This happened about 2 months ago. No problem since. I dropped the phone a few times afterward but it didnt seem to affect it lucky me.
Yesterday i tried watch some series over my WIFI and the phone got really hot around the camera area. The phone wasn't acting well either and then battery dropped from 75% til about 10% in 10 minutes without any video still showing up. (Never had that problem before). I stopped using it and instead put it on recharge for the next day. And today on the morning it was still okay. Went to school and back with the mobile still working. Put it on my table and checked my PC.
About 2 hours later while cheking up on my galaxy i discovered this.
imageshack(.)us/photo/my-images/198/20120326153629.jpg
I think that the LCD finally busted but i need to be sure if it has something to do with the previous crack and also if you could provide any info about what to do with it? Does my warrenty cover this? Or do i need extra insuranse?
I really need help right now LCD blackned spots
The screen has started to turn black from the core of the LCD leak. I now really think this is a broken LCD screen and not a software problem. If someone knows what i could do to fix this i really could need the help right now.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong,
But it sounds to me like you've busted the digitizer portion of your device. As to it being caused by the small crack on your screen.. i don't really know(can't really see if it's a crack in the glass or digi). At any rate, judging from the second picture you provided us it most definitely looks like you damaged the digitizer.
Most companies don't really cover damaged screens caused by users. However, being that your S2 is only 4 months old you could possibly pass it as "it did it by itself, I don't know what happen". Worth a shot I guess...
If all fails you could bring it to a electronics repair shop or you can repair it yourself via a digitizer part bought on ebay(probably pretty expensive being that its part of the screen)
If all else fails check ebay for a new screen.

If your thinking about taking the DIY road I found a screen for you.Quick note about buying something overseas on eBay: it usually takes awhile for the part to ship and even when you get it, the part may not be functional. But don't fret, eBay is usually pretty good about stuff like this so a working part will be guaranteed or your money back!
If you do decide to repair it yourself I would first research A LOT about your phone. Especially, the disassembly guide! Try to use only credible guides such as iFixit, repair universe etc.
This only applies to flex ribbon cables:
when replacing screens sometimes you have to plug it in a few times before you actually get it to respond(could be cause by oxidation of the pins) if thats the case, you could try to take a #2 pencil eraser and gently rub against the pins and remove the oxidation...
Good Luck!
Please let me know how it goes!

Yes it is really a crack and a very annoying one. It doesn't cause any problems with the touch-function, so I've been using it normally but for the screen, it has gone completely black but for the top right part still a little darkblue. I think I'm going with your first answer and try to check it in on warranty have had a bit luck with it past couple of times but im not sure about changing it myself. If having no luck with warranty then maybe ill try doing it myself.
at any rate weather you get warranty to change it or you fix it yourself maybe youll learn to be more careful and get a case maybe???
Im wondering if other people's 8X's creak when squeezing the phone sideways or on the screen after a few minutes of use? Also I can see light leaking from the bottom where the screen meets the body of the phone. Want to know if I should get an exchange tomorrow at Microsoft Store since after that I'm pretty far from any Microsoft Stores until I'm past the return date.
My volume rocker squeaks a little and also moves back and fourth when I shake the phone. At the bottom of the phone on either side of the charging port there are light leaks, and on the left and right bottom sides too, which is annoying in the dark. Tempted to take mine back to Phones4u and ask for a new one..
Got a new phone and its much better. I didn't notice if light leaks through bottom anymore, but the screen is definitely more flush though not PERFECTLY flush.
Much more solid phone and power button also has a click and is easier to press now. No more creaks now.

I'll go and exchange mine then I think. Can you take a picture of it in the dark to show if you have any light leaks and post it up? I'd be very appreciative.
My power button feels a bit odd too, it doesn't have a click and feels squidgy, was thinking that earlier. Might have a go on the replacement in store and look at it in the dark to check for light leaks.
Edit: I've attached the best picture I could get of my light leaks/screen fitting. This is with brightness at max, taken with my DSLR. Was yours this bad? I'd be interested to see if this is an issue with other 8X's or just ours.
I haven't had any problems like that with mine yet. I started using a case after the first week though. Hopefully a replacement will fix the issue for you. That's a lot of light coming through.

It is, it's awful. I'm kind of regretting getting the 8X over the 920 to be honest, the blacks seem very light on the screen and the colour seem very washed out (maybe it's just coming from an AMOLED screen that is doing it), might see what they can do for me in store today. We'll see.
Took it back today, they didn't want to replace it but they did in the end. Tried out two brand new Yellow ones in store, both had the exact same issue. Tried a black one, and it's perfect, no light leakage at all. Maybe it's an issue with the Yellow one. Poor effort HTC.
Accepted the Black one as a replacement, but I'm trying to sell it and get a 920 like I should have in the beginning. Doh!

Meh. I have the black one and its an issue all right. Yesterday, my screen totally died. Went to HTC service center today, and the light leakage and inperfect screen flush were listed as "possible user damage". If they decide to classify it as user damage, i'll be pissed.

I went with the 920, had screen flickering issues and random rebooting on it, and all 3 of my replacements. Gave up and got a Note II. lol.
Yes, when I had mine it creaked and the camera lens moved around a little, and the screen was a tad squishy on the bottom right...HTC consistently has awesome designs but
There is always something wrong with their build quality that is maddening.

Crack over Speaker holes
Hi guys, just to add to the build quality problems... I've just had a replacement from Phones4U of my yellow 8X. After just under a month of gentle and careful ownership i noticed a crack appeared over (and through) the holes on the back for the speaker. The crack got bigger over about a week before i had chance to go ask about it in store. to be fair to P4U, the person i spoke to was great and they swapped it out in store, even though i'd originally bought it online.
Came back to this thread to mention it and now having read everything else i'm noticing a bit of creaking when i squeeze the sides and both phones had had the squishy screen edge picture thing which i first read about being a problem on the ONE X. Not sure if that's just normal anyway though really. Oh and neither of my power buttons have clicked and i find myself missing my easy to press home button on my old iPhone 3GS!
Same again!

Well after a month (again) my replacement 8X has developed the crack in the same place.
Phones 4U are gonna swap it for a black model this time, i'm wondering if it's the yellow plastic specifically that's bad. They were less cheery and helpful with the exchange this time stating that because it's a cosmetic fault they don't usually replace them and the first time was 'a goodwill gesture'.
I'm starting to wish i'd just gone for the extra price bump for the Lumia 920 instead now. Guess i'm lucky they've replaced them at all though but i still don't think a phone should crack of it's own free will after 4 weeks! http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/icons/advanced/drive.png
They also said it's not a widespread fault that they've been made aware of, i was actually hoping someone else on here would have had the same experience to help me confirm it wasn't just bad luck or whatever. I guess everyone else just has the corners rubbing off instead!
I guess I got lucky, my blue 8X seems pretty solid and all the buttons are clicky.
