[Q] How can i reply someonein Dev section? - General Questions and Answers

i have tried to reply to a friend here , but it give me "you don't have permission" i have to have 10 posts before i post anything in the development section.
many thanks

Well... All you have to do is get 10 posts, then you can post in the developer/marketplace sections.

Think that's right.
Until you get the necessary number of posts, PM is your only choice that I know of.

Thank you all
thanks for your reply
i will try using pms till i get 10 posts

PM is too much work, but i know other people who are having the same problem

I think there should be a provision that after a certain number of days, one can post in the dev sections.
I've been doing some testing on my phone but whenever I want to post my thoughts, I get that message.
Inevitably, I now find myself facing a big problem that needs advanced answers but I can't post in the DEV sections. For all the good that XDA has given me, this one single drawback is steadily nullifying it all.

You could always send the dev for that rom a pm to ask them the question. I'm sure they will be able to help you.

Why can't I post

When I am on the xda app and when I go to post to reply on a topic it says the server thing then proccessing but it keeps me at that screen and doesn't post
checked the form rules,I must reply first.
you need to have 10 posts before you can post in every section on xda, right now you are allowed to post things in Q/A
i had the same problem, i couldnt even post in q/a, also i couldnt edit my profile at all, so i had to make a new user, but does anyone know why it was like that?

XDA Forum Rules Dumb
I try to post an answer to some guy's question in the S3 Original Development form... but it won't let me... I've been going through these forums for 2 years, and have been a developer (not android specifically) for 15 years, and finally decide to help someone out and they won't let me until i post 10 questions? SO what now, just make up 10 BS questions?
Ugh... i guess this counts as 1?

That means you have 9 to go, and we expect quality, contributory posts, not spam. That's not to suggest that you personally would do that, but I deal with "10-post spammers" almost every single day.

Exactly... We'll I think the 10 post limit (in area's i'm not interested in posting to) is forcing me to post spam... I get that you want people making quality posts, but it feels like this method forces spam posting... my other post was quality, genuinely helping another user on my provider...

Weird...

2 messages i send to moderators , missing
10 posts i posted deleted..
whats next? close my account???
The 10 posts missing could be two things
1. Somtimes the system updates and posts gomissing for a short while, but come back.
2. The manner of your ten posts, if you simply went onto a thread and said somthing like "thanks for this usefull thread", then this is seen a spamming to get upto your first ten posts, and Mods will remove these types of posts.
As for your two pm's going missing, unless you clicked save to send folder before you sent the pm's then they will not show up in your send folder.
I hope this has cleared up a few of the issues you are having.

Well , i understand that this is a very big forum , and must have rulles to function , but how can i post usefull thinks in general? believe me i tried.
General is general. i dont know about roms , i m not interested about hacking , i m a developer . i m interested in developing apps. Thats it.
One good way in which to reach your 10 posts, is go to all the Q&A forums and look to see if you know the answer to other members problems and before you know it you will have your 10 posts. Also if you go to about XDA forum their is a thread their call How to be a new user, their are some tips their on how to get your first 10 posts.

You would need to contact a S-Mod via PM and ask have your posts been removed or is their tenical issue, reason, for them going missing.
You also need to be aware that many people join this forum claiming to be "interested in developing for Android", and all they ever do is post questions in the Dev forums which don't belong there. The Dev forum is not the right place to ask questions about how to develop apps and things.
If you use the search function, you will find there are guides on XDA for the basics in Android development which you should read and then start learning.

Depends on the mod and their mood, some of them will just remove a few posts to try to make people understand that they are not following the rules, some of them may simply wipe the slate clean since it is faster and easier than picking through what may appear to be non-contributory posts to leave a couple of adequate posts. Also as s.d.oconnor stated, unless you checked the box to save your PM's in Sent Items they will not be saved automatically. Mods don't delete PMs.

The 10 post rule was put in place to make new users think, and hopefully contribute and help others by making useful posts rather than the usual crap like "thanks", "kewl" etc or ask questions which have been asked countless times before. They still have access to dev forums, just cannot post in them. Its not a massive restriction and to provide 10 useful/helpful posts is not hard.

It does sound like a Tec issue or a bit of both, but i would recomend waiting 24 hrs and see if soem or all of your missing posts reapear, and if not then you contact a S-Mod, and explain what has happend, they would then be able to tell you if your posts were removed and why or if it's a Tec issue they would pass the infomation onto an admin.
Any way , thank you all for your answers , i ve allready sended 2 PMs , maybe a technical issue , i ll wait for an answer from the mods.
10 post rule has to be rethought
Hi,
this rule for 10 posts is not very good.
how should i post, for example a patched version of rom when i cannot write in the dev. board ?
please dont get me wrong, but in my eyes this is not helpful.

Au contraire....the rule for 10 posts is very good, when compared to the alternatives. Threads full of spam posts selling whatever junk of the week? 1000's of "Thanks for a great ROM" posts to wade through to find a reply to a question asked a few hours before...not much better. Teenagers using every thread for chit-chat. If you prefer an Android site like that I can assure you there are many out there. Funny thing though, all of them seem to link back to content here....after you get past the gauntlet above.

10 posts limit

Is there any chance to get pass the 10 posts limit and speak in developers forum? I go here often, but my last problem was three years ago and resolved in two replies. I don't remember that limit was in effect back then
Do I really need to write another 7 not usefull posts to get one simple answer in developer forum?

No you need to write 7 useful posts, try helping people in the QandA section etc.
This is how it is, there a very good reasons behind these rules and this thread will likely be closed so just move on and help others.

Okay, just let me think about this for a while... You are suggesting that a noob that has a problem should first solve some other problems and then he is allowed to solve his own problem?
Hm, since when is XDA only for the selected?
I have to agree with topic-starter.
I read much info before I even registered. I rooted my phone with the various threads, but then you have a problem/bug, and you can't address it in the dev-thread.
If some-one asks why there is a 10post limit, everybody says, help other people in the q&A topic.
As a very beginner in rooting/change rom's, you just can't help other people with much more complicated questions.
I'm on many forums, and usually such rule only results in more un-usefull spamming.
I don't have a huge problem with that. But I had a problem with a ROM, and instead of just asking it in the dev-section, I had to search a couple of hours in many threads to find a solution.

The key there is that you found the answer yourself after searching for a couple of hours. That is how people learn - it's how I learnt how to root, S-Off etc my HTC DS - by reading and trying to understand.
The Dev section is NOT the place for questions. It is NOT the place for questions. It is NOT the place for questions. Get the idea? The Dev section is for Development - genuine bug reporting and discussion by the guys who develop and test the ROMs.
I don't think 10 posts is enough. I personally feel that the Dev section should be by invite only. Once somebody has proved that they are able to abide by the rules of XDA and contribute in a meaningful manner then the Devs can invite them to join if they feel so inclined.

Well two things here, no If you have a problem you need solving you post it in the Q&A section in the first place..as this is where questions go Development threads are for development.
And XDA is and always has been about the developers, about developers sharing there work.
Yes, great... So developers have time to test other developers work? I would say that all the wannabe testers have hard time to feedback developers. They use emails. Developers say: use forum, it's great. And the usual answer is: I'm not over the limit yet.
I flash often, I test often. I find bugs often. I read ALOT. And when I find something no one has found yet.... I have to wait until an "experienced noob" (you don't really think number of posts indicate how experienced a guy is...) will write a bug report.
I got tired of waiting today and tried to step ahead but no... I have to make more comments to prove I'm worthy to speak with the DEV's... I'm no flamer and don't take this post like that but...
Posting a question in Q&A and hoping that one guy who might have my solution will answer... Maybe PM him and when he answers I will keep the solution to myself. Nah, too simple... XDA is for developers and developers always rely on people who test their night builds. Don't keep DEV's alone up there in the Ivory tower
PS: I would never dare to ask a question that was already answered here...
Yeah whats up with that
I have to have ten post before i can post my issue on the rom i downloaded that kinda bricked my phone. baha... i am swolt.. and to top it off i have to wait 5 minutes between post i guess it sucks to be a new user; but i am glad to be a part of the XDA forum team since i have been flashing every week for the past year or so... i joined after i ran into a problem go figure...

Its a case of thats just how it is, many devs have started threads in the general subsections for talking about the ROMs to reduce the issue.
The big reason for the limit is simple, with out it the dev section gets flooded with question threads, and general chit chat or basic questions which have been answered a million times end up in dev threads which should be kept clean for real feedback to been seen by the devs.
I know it sucks but it works, 10 posts is nothing, you will find if you look across the forum there will be plenty of threads you can give input to (For example there are loads of "which do you like more" type threads) which require no technical skill. You will very quickly get past the ten posts and move on

Lollipop ROM Dev Funding

MOD EDIT
Don't mean to sound rude but it appears that you have never developed anything before. Also your previous threads show that you have trouble rooting your phone and even installing roms.
Is there a track record that can show us what you can do?
This is by far the worst post / thread I've ever seen and in my opinion should be deleted. There was just a discussion the other day and"Devs" who bait ppl into funding them by talks of a "rom" being developed. Your past threads show mainly work on Galaxy phones, and 1 of the very few HTC topics was a thread u started a as not even knowing how to root this phone, yet u claim to have a rom in the works. A real dev would at least show some samples of their work instead of saying"hey ppl, send money for new phone(s) and I'll build u all a rom. If I'm wrong about this, mods please feel free to delete my post and/or PM me, but this seems like a blatant attempt at trolling/baiting people into funding a new phone for u. PEOPLE, PLEASE BE CAUTIOUS IN SITUATIONS SUCH AS THIS,DON'T GO JUMPING IN HEAD FIRST AND OPENING YOUR WALLET TO PEOPLE WITH NO TRACK RECORD,ESPECIALLY WHEN L's RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER.
And if I'm wrong, my apologies, but again, this was just discussed the other day (forget exactly which thread), but your not really giving anybody ANYTHING to go on.
I'm shocked a mod haven't closed this thread
Note from the Mod: While we do have eyes, we only have 2 of our own It is our members most times who help stop these things by bringing them to our attention via PM or simply using the report button.

Dear XDA: Would ya consider...

Dear XDA, for the love of all that is sane, could a format be designed that would allow for creation of a "Read Only" rom development threads which would spawn a read/write q&a thread elsewhere by default where users could post as is now. The format would allow only the developer and developer selected users to add posts originating from q&a thread that contained important info, fixes, workarounds etc. discovered by users.
I am a firm believer in reading....each time I log on I pick up at (first unread) in the threads I participate in and plow through it post by post. But the truth is that the threads are packed with useless posts that while fun to read at times stray away from anything beneficial or new and mixed up in that are very informative posts ......such as "once this rom is more stable it'll be my daily Flashed back to blah-blah rom." And that's in threads where no one else has that issue and it is a daily. Self promotion, rom promotions, other rom promotions, thanks promotions, flaming, naming, laming, tagging, bragging, one question....9 identical answers. You get my point, all the relevant info in most threads could be summed up around 5 pages max perhaps. Imagine rom threads that ONLY had a few pages of everything known about the rom like how to install, what features now and coming, troubleshooting and fixes, requirements, issues etc.
At the least if mods could allow the dev and/or dev helpers access to all posts in say first 2 or so pages of threads which usually comprise of "First", and the other regular break in lines, so these posts could be repopulated with the above mentioned scenario of information maybe that could be just as useful. Bottom line it is really hard these days to actually acquire info if you jump into a new rom thread which has been active for some time, and if you fail to use the right keyword in a search-box that function can be less than helpful.
The first suggestion imo would further highlight the brilliance and hard work of all that contribute to XDA in whatever means they do while keeping the chat community alive and healthy too. Great interactions happen here and they should as do great accomplishments, and miraculous workarounds/fixes what better way to highlight this than giving all of it a place upfront?! The second suggestion too would help highlight these same achievements.
Thanks for reading and any considerations given.

sorry...i'm out of thanks for the day
Totally agree!!
It actually already exists, the OP has to set it up when he's creating his thread. If you notice some rom threads in development every time you post the Last post always has an automated post which says this has a Q&A thread dedicated for questions. Well when that happens questions are directed to the Q&A thread instead of the development thread.
The problem is some of the developers are not developed enough to turn these features on.
Have a great day!
