[Q] Droid X stuff on Milestone X - General Questions and Answers

Hi I'm kinda of a novice to the whole ROMing and rooting world, but i do have experience in roming my old phone (htc hero) and my nook color, so im not a complete noob
I just got my upgrade from my little local provider, and i chose the milestone X i was curious if Droid X rooting methods and roms worked for this phone, in theory they should... they both are cdma, the only difference is one is on verizon. But i wanted some advice from all the XDA masters before i risked bricking my phone.

Nexus one help.

I Would like to know if the nexus can compete with all these giants in an efficient way when rooted. I hear about evo 4g Droid incredible and x but hardly my baby nexus I bought unlocked from Google. I have not rooted it yet but could care less for the warranty. I want a smartphone that deserves respect in every way. What can be done blessed developers to get the rooted way up there with the new evo 4 and Droid x????

No Droid Branding

I wonder if Big Red is phasing out the "Droid" branding on their elite Android offerings that aren't Moto branded.
The T-Bolt is conspicuously referred to as Verizon or HTC Thunderbolt, *Not* Droid TBolt...
I for one think that the Droid sub-branding was a marketing snafu, as it attributed to genericide and confusion among the masses over nomenclature.
As my 5 year old says, All Droids are Androids, but not all Androids are Droids...
Maybe George Lucas wants some extra money.
I'm really hoping they're doing away with the Droid sub brand. I'm getting really tired of people telling me all about their "Droid" as they pull an LG Ally out of their pocket.

lmfao, I've had that happen once, I had my Dinc in his hand and my friend had his OG droid in his hand exchanging numbers, one of our other "friends" was like look at my droid!... it was a ****ing RAZR!!
I really hope they remove "Droid" from everything except Moto, they can have it. I was sick of the whole Droid Incredible thing,
"it's an iPhone!, now wait, it's a Droid! no way!".... ME:
Few possibilities
1) Moto paid to have the DROID branding to itself (note that the Incredible was the only non-Moto DROID-branded phone)
2) The Thunderbolt being their first LTE phone, they didn't want to tarnish the name if there were any major issues
3) They're trying to get away from the DROID brand's super-agressive reputation (though the Thunderbolt ads, and the phone itself make this seem unlikely)

Droid Eris.
But yeah, I hate the Droid brand. Im fine with it being just for Moto phones.
With the exception of the Eris, Droid branding meant the phone had to feature an awful "industrial" design.

[Q] Is there a straightforward way to swap phones?

So I ran the OTA update shortly after rooting my phone not grasping that it would be this difficult to root after the update. I have not updated my wife's phone so I am thinking about swapping phones. The phones are only about a month old. I am a total droid noob coming over from iphone which is hilarious that I have managed to find a phone even harder to customize than an iphone.
I am looking for any steps I can take that would make this easier besides simply swapping sim cards manually making changes and re-installing apps.
Swapping Sims and setting up your apps is a pretty simple method.......cdma phone owners drool at the simplicity

[Q] Long Time Samsung User Heading Back To Moto. Where Do I Start?

Hi, the last time I used a Moto phone as a daily driver was my Motorola Droid X. Ever since, it has been Samsung devices. I had to sell my Note 2 for extra cash and purchased the Razr HD from Swappa. I am expected to receive the phone in a few days.
Since I am incredibly spoiled with easy rooting, unlocking, and hacking from Samsung development, can any Razr HD users help educate me on how to root and unlock the XT926 variant? I don't want to jump in and mess anything up as the Droid X was a PITA with SBF'ing and its locked BL.
Thank you and I am glad to be back with Motorola.

[Q] Is this the end for rooting Droid Razrs?

I've owned a Droid Razr Maxx (gave it to my son, who still loves it), a Droid Razr Maxx HD (bootloader unlocked) and a second Maxx HD (running 9.18.79 unfortunately but I got a good deal on it second-hand). All are on Verizon as I'm one of five on a family plan. I've rooted all of them, I unlocked the bootloader on the 9.16.6, I'm run different custom ROMs on the 9.16.6 and I'm running a stock-based custom ROM on the 9.18.79.
I'm not smart enough to write code or be a developer but I love being able to control my phones, root them, flash custom ROMs, install custom themes, change launchers, etc etc. In fact, I probably enjoy messing with rooting and ROMs and stuff more than actually using the phones. Its just interesting.
Every thing I'm reading now says that the days of exploits and unlocking and maybe even rooting may be ending. It seems that every update and every new phone that Verizon releases is locked down tighter than the one before. I assume this terrible trend will carry over to the new Droids that Verizon will release later this month.
At first I thought OK fine, I'll just grab a few bootloader-unlocked Razr Maxx HDs and be happy with that for a while. But then I realized that a shrinking pool of mod-able phones will mean less future work being done by devs, which will mean fewer new custom ROMs and cool new features. So, and here's the big question for me -- WHERE WILL THE MOST ROBUST CUSTOM WORK ON VERIZON PHONES BE? It's just not practical right now for me to change carriers or go to prepaid so I'm stuck with Verizon (I like Verizon mostly but evidently they're dicks about locking down their phones). Will developers move from Motorola Droid phones to HTC phones or some other manufacturer or will the assault on "open" phones apply to all new Verizon phones?
The Verizon HTC One isn't even out yet and it has root and a custom recovery. The bootloader is easily unlocked from HTCDev.
I suspect the Moto X will be rooted but I doubt the bootloader will get unlocked, ever.

I hope your wrong. I'm hoping with all the different variations of the moto x available on other carriers there will be a crack somewhere.
I can live without root, but it's much more preferred.
Currently I'm running cm10.2 on my ATRIX HD MAXX. she'll be my backup in case I Bork my X.

The X is unlockable unless you get the att or Verizon version.
