[Q] Earphone jack issue and scratch case - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I just got a TF and my earphone jack seems to have poor solder joint. I tried 3 sets of phones and all give the same result. Sometime I only have sound on the left side, I need to wiggle the connector a bit to get sound for both side. Sometime if I accidentally touches the jack, I am back to 1 single side sound. Doesn't anyone have this issue? I saw someone posting the same feedback from another forum so I just want to confirm that. Also, onto of the ASUS word at the side of the tablet there is a small scratch and many seems to have the same scratch there. I am less concern about this scratch.

broken sound on fuze??

hey guys about a week ago all the sudden the speakers seem to have went on my device. I recently changed roms and i still cant hear anything. I first noticed when I slept in this week because the alarm was going off but no audio LOL
anyone have any tips or experience with this issue? I have a feeling its hardware but if any sort of firmware upgrade or anything will fix it id love to know!
if it is hardware related...anyone have a guide on how to crack this beast open and check the audio wiring out?
There is a Service Manual for this phone floating around.
Cracking open the case is easy. I just did so to fix the antenna contacts. Unfortunately I broke my speaker cables when reassembling it, so i will need to do this again when my replacement speaker comes in.
Take off the back battery cover and you will see four screws. Using a very small philips screwdriver, remove the four screws, then with a flat plastic probe (or your nails if they are long enough) separate the back case cover from the keyboard, starting from one side, around the top , then the other side. Leave the bottom for last as that has the USB connector holding it together. The speaker is attached to the back case cover near the top, and has a very short cable connecting it to the circuit board. Careful not to pull the back case off too hard or you can snap these thin cables.

[Q] EarPhone Jack issue

Hey guys,
I want to check if anyone is having the same issue as I have.
When i use my headphones (Bose QC15), as soon as the heaphone jack moves a tiny bit (as when the phone is in my pocket and I am walking), it cuts the sound in the left ear. I tried with several other headphones and have the same issue.
I sent the phone for repair three times and every time it came back still faulty. I finally got sent a new phone yesterday (which by the way has a flat screen rather than the old curved screen) and the problem is still here, even though it's not as bad as with the old one.
It seems like the headphone jack makes contact with the unidoby casing and that is what cuts the sound from the left ear.
Anyone can confirm it they have the issue or not???
Yes, all of them have that.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA Premium App
Really??!!! That's ridiculous! Come on HTC sort your sh**t together!
Has anyone found a way around it? I was thinking of using a rubber coating for use as electrical tape and insulation and put it on the case around the jack.
I wonder if that would work.
I'll try and report.
If contact with unibody is the problem using some clear non-conductive nail polish, gently applied around the jack hole, should fix it. And could be also reversible, maybe with some cover paint losses.
That's a great idea, now I just need to find out what kind of nail polish is non conductive?! Do you think they all are?

HTC Sensation Headphone Jack

Hey all,
I been looking around for a similar thread, but all of them involve this issue. My issue is that my Jack will not play the right side of Stereo.. At all. I've tried my Gaming Headset, and 5 Diff headphones, its clearly the jack. Thing is I've never dropped the phone, and been really careful with it in general. The Port does not feel loose at all and no matter how much i Twist the plug trying to catch a signal it does not pick up anything. I Also tried cleaning the inside with a shaved down Q-Tip, needless to say it didn't do anything.
Any Ideas?
I have no Warranty
The last time I tried cleaning a headphone jack, I accidentally bent one of the contacts inside the barrel back flush with the wall. That meant one of the contact pins wasn't doing its job.
Take the outer housing off and closely inspect the jack. Shine a torch dow it to make sure all your pins are showing. A surgical needle saved me (great addition to the phone repair kit) You can use it to bend the pin back into position.
Good luck!
Sry for Nekro, just wanted to add a Follow up to the problem. My phone had been recently stolen, when I was hanging out with a not so great crowd, But I just got it back yesterday. And to my astonishment, the headphones started to work if I pushed the jack in further. Turns out it was just Pocket lint.... They musta knocked the pocket lint loose enough for me to grab a weak connection. Just rolled up some Tape and stuck it in and got the Lint out, works perfectly now. Hopefully this will help someone else searching this problem.
Now to just figure out why my Pause/Play , Forward /Backward buttons on both my Headphones don't work anymore....
Thanks a lot Zeal514....I had no sound a all and headphone pin was not going all the way in...swirled some rolled tape in and whole lotta lint crap came out and I can hear now...feels great. Thanks for your post saved me call to HTC helpdesk and time to send phone in.
But my mic is not working...i have old apple earbuds aith no buttons, just a mic attached with earbuds.
Thanks for the tip, I used some 3M Scotch compressed air and after blowing the dirt out of the jack plug, all was good again!

Sound cutting out frequently

Hi everyone,
After upgrading to ICS (currently on ARHD) I've noticed that the sound from the speakers on the tablet is cutting out frequently. It's definitely not a program thing because it occurs across many programs. Strangely, if I shake the tablet around or tap the back of it, the sound comes back on (until the tablet moves or gets jarred, which leads to the sound cutting out again).
I'm wondering if this is a hardware problem or is this the problem some people have reported already with the sound issues of ICS.
Thanks for any help!
I was having the same issue a couple of months ago on my TF101 and finally ended up RMAing the tablet to Asus mid-April. It seemed like they sent me an entirely different unit, but after only a week the issue returned.
I was looking for other people with the same problem and so far there have been a lot of mixed statements about the sound on the Transformer. The ICS update hasn't helped either, as it's brought in even more problems into the equation.
I'd say RMA if it really bugs you, and try to get a rep who won't make you pay for shipping. It seems like they just add a bunch of padding to force the speaker contacts to stay put. This particular problem seems like a design flaw with the Transformer itself, and I feel like it's going to persist to some degree.
if you're out of warranty you can try this simple solution from this thread post:

Hello, I signed up to this forum after reading the OP. I was having the same problem with my TF101. If I moved the tablet so it was face down, the audio would come back. And if I flipped it straight up and down or on it's back, the audio would disappear. Also, when I would pinch the location of the speakers on each side of the unit, the audio would come back. After reading the first post, I decided to try to fix the problem myself.
I took the bezel off with a t5 torx driver to remove the screws on the bottom where the charger plugs in, gently pried the bezel up with an xacto knife, then used a small screw driver to remove the 12 screws to separate the back plate from the unit. There are three Phillips head screws per side, on the top and bottom the screws are difficult to see at first, but if you look at the unit at eye level you will see them. After I removed the back plate, I placed two thin strips of padding on the top of the speakers. They have padding on them already, but apparently this is insufficient. Then I put everything back together and presto! I have sound again. If you are brave enough to crack the unit open, then it is a really easy fix. Just be really careful with the aluminum bezel, it looks like it could bend pretty easily.
I found a picture of the internals for you, should you try this.

The speaker is the silver oval with the small black strip of padding on it.
Good luck!

Ear speaker won't work after changing broken screen.

I droped my one month oneplus one, and broke the screen.
Changed it myself, no big trouble, other than now, the ear speaker won't emit any sound when calling.
Any chance that I missed something when putting it back together?
Thanks guys.
An ubberly frustrated oneplus owner.
HI, did You solved it? I have the same problem, but when I push on speaker during a call it works.
If you take your phone apart again (I know, not ideal, but it should be simple) and get to the speaker, there should be little copper colored prongs the are bent out. These are the contacts for where it touches the motherboard, so make sure that nothing is blocking them. You may want to try bending them up a tiny bit in order to help them make contact/
