[Q] Charge phones from USB Host? - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Will it be possible to charge the phone with the tablet's USB Host?
Could be very useful when tethering.

With the dock, I'd say there's a possibility...

[Q] Charging the Gtab

Hi. I looked but did not find an answer to this question. Can you charge the Gtab through either the micro or standard USB? I can't find anything in the manual (very poor manual).
I know you normally can charge a device using the USB. I have a micro usb car charger and would love to use it.
You cannot. The USB ports do not have enough OOMPH for that.

The Viewsonic G Tablet was not designed to be charged with any of the USB ports.
You must use the standard charging port for that.

The battery on the GTablet requires more power than the usb ports can provide in order to conduct it's charging, so no....neither the usb port nor mini usb will charge the unit.

[Q] Asus USB adapter alternative?

hey everyone, so i have been reading around and there are alot of people talking about the usb extention for the asus transformer.
Here is my thought: what if you used your existing usb charger/data cable and then but a female to female usb adapter on it? this has just been in my mind for a while and i saw that the adapter would cost around 3 instead of 20 for the asus branded one.
has anyone tried this or should i just get the adapter made by asus?
For $3 why not just try it and let us know?
I'm pretty sure this will not work, since the adapter has additional circuits to put the tf in usb otg (on the go) mode, which is the usb host functionality in plain english.
Yo will need an usb 3.0 cable. It won't work with a normal (2.0) one
As alluded to above, 2 different things.
The usb3 cable is an extension, the adapter is a hub (adding usb to the tab).

OTG and Charge with Verizon Siii

Anyone know if there is a kernal, ICS or JB, that allows USB OTG access to a thumb drive and charging of the Verizon S3 at the same time?
My S3 is still running Beans ICS revision 15, and Samba share works great to feed movies from the USB to my kids nooks in the car, but would like to charge at the same time.
TIA
You have a link to the OTG cable you would use to pull that off?
Or would you get juice from a powered hub, maybe the device you are talking to?
My OTG cable only has a plug to go in the phone, and a plug for a USB device - that's it. No place to plug a cable in to add power to the equation, like the MHL cable has.
(both cables samsung OEM)
Are there aftermarket OTG cables with power input?
I really don't know how comfortable I would be using OTG with anything other then a samsung OEM cable. Have you seen this thread?

[Q] USB Hub and Charging

I want to connect my Galaxy S3 to a USB hub but also charge it at the same time. That way I could connect my keyboard, mouse, thumbdrive and PS3 controller while still charging my phone. Is this possible?
I was thinking through a Y-cable I could charge it while the other side connected to the USB hub.
Does anyone know if this will work natively?
Do I have to do anything to my GS3 to enable this functionality?

The S3 automatically charges when plugged in via usb, albiet it's a trickle charge and therefore MUCH slower than if it were plugged into a wall charger.

USB adapter + charging?

Hello,
I have the TF300T (without the keyboard dock), and I want to get a USB port dongle. However I have two needs:
I want the USB port to provide enough power for a USB 2.5" hard disk. I suppose I can use a powered USB hub for this?
I would really like to be able charge the tablet when the USB dongle is on. Is this possible?
Thank you

If that USB HDD requires 2 USB (one data one power), then a powered hub is your best bet.
When the USB dongle is in, it takes the place of the charging port. You can either charge the tablet or use the dongle.
