[Q] Inspire Screen Replace - HTC Inspire 4G

Long story short... I dropped it from less then a foot height onto the ground by accident. The way it hit caused spider-cracks on the screen in the left lower corner. I'd take a picture but it doesn't really matter all that much. It only looks like the top layer got hit and it's not that deep or bad off but still takes up a fair enough portion of the screen. But every morning the cracks increase for some reason, perhaps pressure.
Looking for cheap options to replace it. Do I need a digitizer or just S-LCD screen? I'll do it myself if someone has a guide to replace it.

Search for the Desire HD howto... its a very complex fix even for just a screen... i just sent mine off to HTC.. because it was more pain to fix it than to spend the extra 60$ to have HTC fix it and warrenty it for 90days... they replace the lcd/digitizer, housing and everything else took them 4 days to do it and ship it back to me

It only cost 60$ to be repaired?! I thought it'd be like $300+ to have it replaced. If it's only $60 dollars I'll pay it

Cracked LCD.......

Does anyone know how much it will cost to repair? Ball park figure? Any recommendations?
If you're thinking of doing it yourself, you might wanna think again. HTC made it real hard to replace the LCD on this phone.

Im not sure but you might be better off buying a used Inspire.
Theres a whole process before you actually get to the LCD panel.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JfatoeWbMRk go to about 7:33 in the video to see what it takes to remove it.
HTC build their phones like crap full of plastic tabs and intricacy, i wouldn't waste my time in fixing a HTC too many taped and glue parts, seems like it was put together by macgyver.
While i can easily swap the LCD in an iphone 4 in about 30 min, the time invested in a htc phone is just not worth it, plus the worst part is they glue the glass to the digitizer, so prepare to use a heatgun to peel off the broken glass off the lcd without damaging the LCD because i'm sure the glass won't come off in one piece since its cracked.
If i was you i'd toss it on ebay and let someone else deal with it.
Really? Does htc really build crappy phones?

Yeah seriously! Never knew our phones are mostly held together with tape and double sided tape and what... only 6 screws? But overall the phone does feel solid.

Seriously, go away to iphone-developers, iFanboy.
Also, excluding the original iPhone, Apple glues the LCD to the glass as well.
Hope this hunk of tape and glue holds up for 2 years

I'm just putting the iphone as an example I like fixing phones for hobby and not only iphones. Seriously how many phones have you taken apart?
For instance samsungs molding process is better than that of htc very clean when taking it appart. I was just giving an advice to op and your htc fanboism is not necessary.

Lcd and digitizer replacement.

So I've done this on countless phones, dx, inc, d1, d2, Inc2, fascinate, and others. I've tried on two tbolt's songwriter and each one i've cracked the lcd while separating the digitizer from the phone... Turning a 20 dollar repair into a 50 dollar repair. Anyone have any tips? I am thinking that I'm just going to have to change both right off the get go from now on, like the fascinate. Has anyone else done this without cracking the lcd?
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
Are you using a heatgun to separate the digitizer from the LCD? Otherwise there's not much you can do to make it easier aside from buying it pre-assembled.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v3rjgVsSWxQ
i'd gladly pay $50 to have my screen fixed as opposed to not having the option at all. it'd be nice to have to pay only $20 but you can recoup that $50 if/when you choose to sell the phone.
I know, but the first phone was a friends, I quoted him thirty for the fix, broke the lcd and ended up paying twenty to fix his phone. The second phone I bought for 80, and broke the lcd so now I'll have 130 into a phone ill be lucky to sell for 200
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
Several of the newer Htc phones are going to be really difficulty to do just the digit. I personally haven't done a tb but just about every other phone. Like the other response said, you've gotta use a heat gun to loosen the adhesive but not so much that you cook the LCD. There's a fine line, you just have to find it.
Sent from my iPad 2 using Tapatalk
Yea the Inc 2 was a pain in the ass with the ribbon cable behind the lcd, I flexed the lcd on that phone a ton with no problems, I don't even see myself flexing the tbolt's lcds and when I get the phone back together I have a dead lcd. Ohwell, I did have a buzz going on during the first one, maybe by the time I do three it won't be an issue. Has anyone ever had an issue with the cheap eBay digi's? There are some tbolt ones on there for ten bucks shipped lol

So you expect to be up $50 for fixing two. You valued your time/effort at $10 per on the first one. What's the problem? If that's not enough, don't do any more.
It's a hobby bud, I honestly don't care, just asking for tips.

Be careful when prying the lcd out of the frame bc i damaged one of the 2 backlights lol......I would just pry from the top and sides. Heat gun is key.....i was careful and still cracked the lcd....lol.

[Q] Anyone have to replace their LCD screen?

Mine shattered today and I need to replace it. Just wondering if anyone has a suggestion on what site to use to get a new one and how easy/hard it is.
They are expensive I paid 50 for mine . Your best bet is ebay
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA Premium App
I replaced mine, pretty easy. You can check out youtube for video tutorials, and yeah, the digitizer is pretty pricey. Just make sure you have some adhesive available and take your time.
I will be needing to replace mine. The part should arrive soon, this is what I ordered;
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005QXQXYI/ref=oh_o02_s00_i00_details
It comes with a new bezel attached and with power/volume buttons pre-assembled. Rather nifty if I do say so myself.

That's a very handy assembly. I spent probably 2 hours getting the tape in all the right places to put it together.
Digitizer
I had to repace one on the G2x I got off ebay awhile back. I would suggest that you check out the youtube video on disassembly. You have to be careful when you get to the part where you lift out the motherboard. You have to lift up the old digitizer cable connector as well as the lcd screen will be somewhat stuck to a gasket around the face. Once you get past that it should go fine. The best price for a digitizer is on ebay, just make sure you get the one with the frame. Good luck.
Eddie
Also make sure you buy one with adhesive on the frame cause mine didn't have it and its getting a hole bunch of dust specs

Send it to LG. Factory tech replacement with original part for around $70.00. If I had that option that is the route I would go.

It's very simple to return the phone to stock.

I just replaced my wife's digitizer. I got the white one from California on ebay. Simple if you are good with your hands. Take your time, I glued the new digitizer cause that's how lg did it. Works flawlessly.

I don't know their actual stance on this, but I don't think they should care/find out that it's rooted.
#1 if you are paying for their service, it's not a warranty issue.
#2 why would they even need to poke around in your phone to replace the screen?

broke my screen

Broke my screen and looked on ebay for a replacement. What I can't figure out is why there is such a big price difference on all these screens. There are some for 20 all the way up to 100. Can someone chime in on this?

Depends if new or used, the source of the screen, counterfeit or real and also simply what the sellers think they can get.

ones that are legit are going for at least mid 50s I believe on ebay.
The reason there is such a price difference is because you are looking at two different products. I broke my screen last week, but it was only the top layer of glass(called the digitizer) that broke, which only costs $15-20. If you managed to break the glass and the LCD, however(if your screen won't turn on, or is massively discolored), then you need a full LCD replacement, which is much more expensive, costing closer to $150. Hope that helps

yeah i figured that out reading the description. how was it changing the digitizer? thats all i need replaced. only reason why i would consider buying the whole setup was so all i needed to do was plug and play.

There's a seller on eBay that has the model phones for cheap. I paid around $15 shipped for one when i replaced the digitizer on my inc1. Complete shell, battery cover and all, except the lcd and guts

Got mine from ebay for about 55bucks. Complete set. Plug and play. Even came with tools to get the job done and a step by step video. Can't go wrong. Much easier and safer to just replace both LCD and digitizer.

Worth buying an gs3 w/ broken screen?

I have found a craigslist post in my area saying there letting go there phone for $250. In the post they continue to say that only the screen is cracked. A picture they posted shows the phone on with cracks on the screen.
I have emailed them and they replied that if it doesn't sale they will just repair it, because it only cost $18 (this concerns me, why not just repair on such an expensive phone)
My questions: is it worth it?? Also what questions do you think I should ask? And if I meet them in person what should I look for?
Thanks in advanced xda folks!
Sent from my Droid using Tapatalk 2
My friend cracked the glass on his and the screen won't even turn on. I called the phone and it rang but the screen wouldn't light up and the digitizer wouldn't register touches. So I'd stay away.
I have seen replacement screens on eBay for $20 or so, but I believe that the digitizers are glued to the screen.
If you can't cleanly separate the two, you're probably in for the cost of a replacement combo ... about $200.
Still cheaper than a new one outright ...

I've seen replacement screens on ebay for maybe $15-20 but to replace it seems rather difficult: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_70-W9JjVjg&feature=relmfu.
It's really up to you whether it's worth it or not. If you're up for the challenge of replacing the screen (or if you think you can live with the crack, you didn't mention how bad it is) then go for it. If not, I'd probably stay away as this doesn't exactly seem like an easy fix.
Try lowering his price to 200$ then send it in to Samsung they will charge about 190$ to replace it. The digitizer is glued to glass and u won't be able to separate and put on new glass.

It may not be broken but its all one unit.. my guess is they already know this or they would have gotten it fixed themselves
Replacement screens are about 18-20 but replacing them is very difficult because of the adhesive that bonds them... Dont't buy it.. you would have to buy a new bezel with the screen and digitizer attatched to it. about 200-250 itself..A shop around me does it but they said it would be 300 plus labor..
If you can get it at a decent price and can replace the screen cheaply then i would say go for it.

Where did u get that quote I have a broken gs3 and best option is Samsung 180 shipped and returned. OP did the phone need bezel replaced? Here is my damaged phone not one scratch on bezel landed perfectly flat and the SGP case doesn't offer much protection over the screen its almost flush. If it was under or roughly 160-180 plus 180 screen replacement sub 400 gs3 good price.

I live in the Twin cities area of Minnesota... Its a local shop that does all kinds of phones.. But that's what they quoted me.. since it was a such a new phone
