[ATT] Can I transfer my mum's data plan to my line? - General Questions and Answers

Hey guys
I recently got an HTC inspire and I need a data plan if I wanted to use this phone extensively.
My mother was grandfathered into an unlimited plan, and I'm here with a 2GB plan. Do you think it would be possible to switch the plans? Any special wording I should use with att reps to get this done?
I know it's not with their policy, but it may be possible!
Thanks.

[Q] Keeping 3G unlimited data plan

I was trying to buy an Inspire off craigslist today, but didn't end up get it because my data didn't work with my $30 unlimited plan.
After researching here, it sounds like most people are able to get upgraded into $30 4G unlimited. Just wondering how reliable is this. I won't be able to return it if I keep it.

You can keep your unlimited plan. I've been using the Inspire since launch day, and I'm still on my $30 unlimited. I've also seen around that you can ask AT&T to switch your current unlimited to 4g unlimited. Be careful though: make sure you insist on keeping your unlimited data. I, personally, have decided not to attempt to change mine to 4g unlimited. 2 reasons: one being that I find it a hassle to get help from a competent rep and the second reason being that 4g doesn't even exist yet, so speeds are essentially the same.
there is no reason your 30$ unlimited plan shouldn't work. I'm still using my 30$ unlimited iphone data plan so i can switch between my iphone and inspire.

[Q] android phone in att?

Hi
I juat want to know this
My gf its on att, and she wants a android phone. But she has a normal plan. If i buy her a new android phone. Will att charge her for a smarphone plan? Or will she be able to keep her normal voice and data plan. I know in tmobile you can keep eany plan you have if you buy the phone. Eany help?

what do you mean by normal plan? i think this is how it works
1. you get her a at&t branded smartphone (one they sell), they will detect it and require you to have a smartphone data plan. starting at $15
2. you get her a non-at&t branded smartphone, they dont know what it is, so if you have no plan or have medianet plan ($10 or 15 i forget, dumbphone data plan), she keeps her current plan
i read many times that people use a unbranded smartphone with the medianet plan. me, i cant afford data so ive been using unbranded smartphones without data plan for 3 years
It really depends on what data plan she is on right now. If it's a basic phone data plan, they will make her switch to a smartphone data plan. Those are $15 for 200MB, $25 for 2GB, and $45 for 4GB. If she has an unlimited data plan, she might be able to have it grandfathered in. Those are the only changes you should see.
Im sorry she only has voice and text. But that answered my question. If she gets an att phone they will make her get data. And she cant pay it. I gues ill get her a tmo phone.

No. You need to get an UNBRANDED international phone to be completely safe.

im a noob in this men
What do you mean with unbranded?
ahhh i got my answer reading in the forums
Aparently i can use eany other carier phone and it will not be detected cause the data radios and frequency arent the same. they told me i should not have eany problems with them changing my plan. thanks for all your help guys
Buy from Amazon, BestBuy, etc. I mean, don't buy with the carrier.

[Q] Unlimited Iphone Data Plan and Samsung S2 Skyrocket Options

Hello Just a quick question or two. Right now I have an Iphone 4 and am eligible for an upgrade. I decided on the Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket. However do any of you know if an iPhone data plan will work with a non-iphone smartphone? I'm really trying to keep my iphone plan for the sake of being able to switch my microsim between the iphone and the Samsung (If all works out I want to keep my microsim instead of a new one. I'll just use an adapter with the Samsung)
I've read that a non-iphone smartphone can work under an iphone data plan but an iphone can't work under a regular smartphone plan. Which is why I'm trying hard to keep the plan I have now. I just want to know if that is fact or false.
Any information will be really helpful. I asked this on the at&t forum but haven't gotten any replies. I hope you guys can help Please and thank you
EDIT: sorry. I meant to post this in the Q&A forum. Is it okay to post this here?

You can keep your plan, As i just upgraded from an Iphone 4 myself, however you will not be able to switch sims as easily, You must get a new sim for the LTE service from ATT for the skyrocket. I kept my same plan with unlimited data now provisioned for LTE and whatnot is all.
So your plan will have to be adapted, You can get a cookie cutter for your sim and then it should work in an iphone never tried it though....and the adapter would have to go in the skyrocket.
Hope this helps, PS don't let them change your plan they will ask you too but say no.
the quick answer is no, although you will be able to retain the "unlimited" status of the plan, they are two different codes on your account. so you can use the phone and text but no data or pic/vid messages unless you change the data plan.
Thanks for the info

Thanks for answering. How happy are you with the Skyrocket now that you've upgraded from the iPhone?
I came from iPhone as well. My grandfathered iPhone $30 unlimited plan carried over to my skyrocket. Still had to get a new Sim card though. Make sure they keep your grandfathered plan, I heard some people got ripped off on theirs. You can keep it so make sure you specify that.
I kept my unlimited and it's damn fast

I have the $30 unlimited plan too. So your data plan name is still under iPhone or under Smartphone Unlimited Data plan? Just making sure I'm understanding right.

This is what my bill says now:
Unlim data for 4G LTE Smartphones w/Visual Voice Mail 02/12-03/11 30.00
But it was previously the Iphone unlimited data plan.
Also important to mention that I'd you have unlimited you will now be throttled at 5 gbs instead of 3 like iPhone users

When I upgraded from my iPhone 3GS to the Skyrocket the guy at the store asked me if I wanted to switch from my unlimited data plan. I told him no, I'd rather take the throttle than the overage charges any day. Now my bill shows this feature instead of the iPhone data plan: LTE UNL SMT VVMT. I was also surprised that I wasn't asked to verify my employment status with Wal Mart, I haven't worked there in 4 years, but i still get the 20% discount off my bill every month.

[Q] Verizon Unlimited Data Question/Concern

Hi,
I am currently using a Moto Droid 3, and have been stuck with this as I want to keep my unlimited data. However, I have multiple lines on this Verizon account. I know the common solution to keeping your unlimited data plan is to buy the phone you want at full price.
What I am curious about is if I use an upgrade on a different line, could I activate that phone on my unlimited line and keep my unlimited data? I've done some searching and I haven't seen anyone say if this is doable or not, and I didn't want to ask Verizon directly. They seem pretty sensitive when it comes to people and their unlimited plans.
As a back up question, could I activate the phone on the line that has the upgrade then just move it over to the unlimited line and keep my unlimited plan. This wouldn't lock me out of 4g service and be stuck on 3g would it? (I have heard grandfathered data plans moved to 4g, but I have also read that moving from 3g to 4g can get your plan changed)
Thank you for help, its much appreciated. I'm just really not sure how it works between buying a phone retail vs buying a phone from an upgrade then moving it around.

[Q] Transferring my unlimited data contract, but have question.

I currently have an S3 on the plan. If I sell my S3 and it gets activated on someone else's plan, does my unlimited data plan stay intact, or does it get cancelled?
Would the S3 be on any plan after that ? If the phone is not activated with the network, I wouldn't think there would be a problem - but it could be problematic you sell the phone while it's still tied to your account.
