[Q] Transferring my unlimited data contract, but have question. - General Questions and Answers

I currently have an S3 on the plan. If I sell my S3 and it gets activated on someone else's plan, does my unlimited data plan stay intact, or does it get cancelled?

Would the S3 be on any plan after that ? If the phone is not activated with the network, I wouldn't think there would be a problem - but it could be problematic you sell the phone while it's still tied to your account.

[ATT] Can I transfer my mum's data plan to my line?

Hey guys
I recently got an HTC inspire and I need a data plan if I wanted to use this phone extensively.
My mother was grandfathered into an unlimited plan, and I'm here with a 2GB plan. Do you think it would be possible to switch the plans? Any special wording I should use with att reps to get this done?
I know it's not with their policy, but it may be possible!
Thanks.

[Q] Data plan on unlocked phone

I just bought an Inspire 4G from ATT and was going to unlock it (probably going to buy an unlock code from htcimeiunlock).
My problem is, I dont want to pay for a data plan (I live in the city so there is wifi everywhere). Under our family plan, the phone is currently being used by my dad (who's paying for a data plan), but he realised he doesn't need all that and was going to downgrade to a non-smart phone (and cancel his data). I will then put my SIM card (which has no data plan attached to it) in his Inspire.
After I unlock the phone (but still use an ATT SIM), will ATT still be able to tell I'm now using a smart phone and instantly add a data plan onto my line? Or can I use it without having to pay for that and just go on the internet through wifi alone?

Yes, AT&T will automatically add it as the IMEI, which cannot be changed, is in their system.

Yes they can. My data plan is still from the iphone. I get a txt once a day saying a 4g data plan is required. If you have no data plan you will get a txt saying a data is required. They will eventually add it to your plan.
You may want to add the dumbphone data plan before installing your sim. I got 2gb/month for $10 when I gave my wife my Incite because her dumbphone had the data plan.

Will ATT charge more for data on skyrocket?

I already have the old data plan 15$ unlimited (grandfathered) + unlimited family messaging. If I pop my sim into an ATT skyrocket, will they charge me more for the data plan? I would buy the phone off ebay.
I don't think you can pop your sim card in. Lte sim is different I believe.

its the same kind of sim, just lte enabled. My sim would only get me 3G speeds, just want to know if ATT will charge me more for data.
NO. when you get it. Call them and tell them to put your number on you the LTE Sim Card and then your data plan will just transfer. if you have the $30 unlimited grandfathered, it'll carry over. Same price as before. 2GB is still $25
I know it's the same type lol. Just saying you wont get lte without contacting at&t. But no, you shouldn't get charged more or lose you grandfathered plan. But not 100% sure.

That sounds like the MediaNET plan, which AT&T won't grandfather you in unlimited if it is.
If it's from the iPhone 2G or 3G, or you had unlimited data on a smartphone before AT&T got rid of it, they'll put you on LTE unlimited.
I have my phone on an ex-girlfriend's plan. We both have unlimited AT&T data but different plans because she uses an iPhone. She initiated the process for me to take over my piece of the account. Will my unlimited data stay with me if I complete the process?

The only way you will find out is go to a store or call.
If you have the medianet data package tell them to show you where in the terms of service it says they can't grandfather you into unlimited smartphone data. If the can't show you then it just says they will grandfather unlimited data. Push the issue and you'll get it. I know I did it. Went from iPhone unlimited to medianet and then upgraded to an android phone. Used the argument above and I'm on unlimited data again.

[Q] Verizon Unlimited Data Question/Concern

Hi,
I am currently using a Moto Droid 3, and have been stuck with this as I want to keep my unlimited data. However, I have multiple lines on this Verizon account. I know the common solution to keeping your unlimited data plan is to buy the phone you want at full price.
What I am curious about is if I use an upgrade on a different line, could I activate that phone on my unlimited line and keep my unlimited data? I've done some searching and I haven't seen anyone say if this is doable or not, and I didn't want to ask Verizon directly. They seem pretty sensitive when it comes to people and their unlimited plans.
As a back up question, could I activate the phone on the line that has the upgrade then just move it over to the unlimited line and keep my unlimited plan. This wouldn't lock me out of 4g service and be stuck on 3g would it? (I have heard grandfathered data plans moved to 4g, but I have also read that moving from 3g to 4g can get your plan changed)
Thank you for help, its much appreciated. I'm just really not sure how it works between buying a phone retail vs buying a phone from an upgrade then moving it around.

[Q] keeping unlimited data with Verizon

Hi guys. I'm with verizon and I'm running the note 2. Battery drains quick now and my screen is cracked. I want to upgrade but i will lose my unlimited data plan. I have 3 lines under my name. My brother just used his to get a s5 cause hes on a tiered data plan anyways. My mom's line isn't a smartphone one. I asked the store if i could just transfer my moms upgrade to my brothers line and upgrade again to get the phone i want. They said no and i would lose my unlimited data plan plus my moms line now will have data plan regardless. Is there anyway to use my moms upgrade without all that hassel? Someone told me to just do the upgrade online.
