Haven't read the other thread fully yet, but guessing this'll require gingerbread.

[Q] cant mount system, clockworkmod G2X

Hi all,
when i boot my g2x into recovery (clockworkmod) and try to backup, it says it cant mount the system. first it used to say cant mount sd card but the solution was just taking out the sd card and putting it back in. unfortunately i cant do this with the system
anybody have any solutions
That happened to me too... download the update.zip from rom manager and boot that or flash the new recovery image
How do I get the update.zip though? And when I go on rom manager and click on flash clockworkmod, it flashes the latest version 5.0.2.0 but it only stays in that version if I click on restart into recovery. If I exit and turn my phone off then boot into recovery, I still have version 3.0.2.7 and the same can't mount system problem occurs

I just fixed this problem today.
The version of CWM that you have flashed as recovery doesn't have the capability of mounting an ext4 file system. Most likely your file system was converted to ext4 somewhere along the way. You need to flash CWM again and it can't be through rom manager since Rom manager only gives you what is considered a "fake flash", which is why you see 2 different versions when you boot into your recovery.
Use the search feature to find information about how to install CWM 5.0.2.0.
There is a one click installation script somewhere in the development section for the G2x with very good instructions on how to permanently flash a newer version of CWM that can handle ext3 and ext4.
Doing this completely fixed this issue for me.
Hopefully it will do the same for you.

NEVER, EVER FLASH RECOVERY WITH ROM MANAGER!
rom manager only does a FAKE FLASH on your phone, if you want a real recovery, always flash with NVFlash

New ROM

Whenever i try to flash a new ROM it doesn't want to load. I've tried the CM7 nightlies and the pheonix ROM. This is what I do.
I root my phone via one click root.
Install clockwork recovery via app.
wipe
install ROM via recovery (install zip)
start up
Locks at LG screen. Ugh!
Any advice?

NO, NO, NO! It's one thing to do this, alot have, it's another to not read threads or research it.
NEVER flash CWM from an app, you HAVE TO flash via NVflash.

This is a must for the g2x. If you use from manager it only fake flashes clockwork mod recovery and makes you unable to flash roms.
Typical way to achieve root on the g2x is to.
1. Nvflash cwm
2. Create a nandroid backup.
3. Flash a rom that has root.
Don't bother with rom manager or super one click.

Just as a quick question. Does wiping the system, wipe ANY of my data? Like does it only wipe the existing ROM? Ive been confused of it since the first time i flashed a ROM

Thanks, I'll give it a shot and get back to you. I don't think it had to do with the wipe as I always ran a wipe script before installing. I thought it had to do with the kernel.... (don't have a clue though)
I'll flash the clockwork via nvflash, and get back to you, thanks.
EDIT:
IT WORKS. NVFlash the recovery, make sure to change the command if you have a different version you plan to flash/

you definitely want to do that. do you have a nandoid backup of your original system? if your phone breaks, that is the only way to revert it back to original for an exchange (unless ofcourse you take a hammer to it).

I think so. Catch is that I don't know if doing that will actually update anything, the whole problem is that ROM manager doesn't flash it properly/to the right place. The only thing to do is make a nandroid and try it out and if ti doesn't work, then reflash with NV flash and you're good.

Having serious problems installing a ROM

I have a samsung infuse on at&t. I want to install CM7. Here's what has happened so far:
- I copied the modified 3e recovery file into /system/bin
- I flashed CWM and rebooted.
- I got a bricked phone.
- I used GTG's unbricker to unbrick, eventually getting it to work.
- I ended up with a different android installation than I had previously. The market is weird, it's locked so I can't install APKs... I rooted and installed rom manager using adb but rom manager force closes immediately.
All I want to do is just install the CM7. I don't care if I keep my data, I don't care if I can recover to my old rom (that's already out the window.) I just want to get rid of this touchwiz garbage and get gingerbread.

Gtg unbrick again. Follow all instructions in infused. I don't feel like typing them out. Flash infused. Then flash cm7. Thank me. Finally get a different launcher. Launcher pro, go launcher. And others. Look at, what's the best launcher in q&a. Done

i see your having a serious problem posting in the correct section lol
What i did before to get it working is...
Unbrick with gtx unbrick / or unbrick to stock with root+ mod e3 recovery with Odin, phone restart into red recovery, flash cm7, reboot into recovery (it should be blue this time), reflash cm7, then Reboot system.
That works out for me in the past. Good luck and always do a nandroid backup.

check out the first link in my signature line. it should help. gl
I flashed the one you linked with odin, and it booted into a blue recovery. Should it have been red?]
EDIT: and rom manager FCs instantly.
Update: I selected "reinstall packages" and CWM popped up!!! I'm doing a factory reset.
And I tried to install the compiled CM7 rom through rom manager, it booted into CWM and CWM did stuff, and then it rebooted to a samsung logo!
This is so much fun! Any thoughts on what I should try?
I assume I need to do the voodoo lagfix stuff?
I am following these instructions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1220090
But the multiupload links are broken. How do I get CWM-community-kernel-v8.zip?

Installing Superuser VIA ClockWorkMod

When Trying to install Superuser using this method (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1340526)
It gives me an error (status 0) and aborts installation
I am running Stock ICS 4.0.4 (the thread says rooting for 2.3.5 2.3.6 But i was told 4.0.4 should work too)
Any help is great thanks!
Edit : Never mind apperently just trying over and over got it to work :s Says it installed successfully, sorry about the post!
Download the SU files again. Sounds pike a bad download. Also if the zip is for GB it won't flash on ICS because the SU apk is not compatible.

I had the same issue when trying to root. Download new Superuser file and new su binary file. You may have to flash each multiple times before they catch. I flashed both twice before they succeeded. Flash the Superuser first and then the su binary. Hope this helps.
Note: I did this for stock 2.3.6 but the process should be the same
It took 3 times to root the original leak
