[Q] HDMI out clarity? - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I plugged the tablet into a Samsung LCD TV and it doesn't seem very clear.. sort of grainy ..lost quality.. am I missing a setting somewhere? It looks OK don't get me wrong but an HDMI connection I expected to be a lot crisper.

I believe this too. i have a 1080p tv and it outputs to 720p which is fine but it is a bit grainy and the screen blinks alot when trying the youtube app as well.

surely it depends on what you are trying to view ....

Its anything I view. Its just lossy. Even idle at the main screen. I just thought it would be crisper. Its not terrible or anything.

you sure its not mirroring the TF's resolution?

Do you have to resize the output on the samsung ? All my samsung TVs look way better through VGA than HDMI with computers. FYI I dont own a EEE im just a TV geek.
Also make sure you plug it in the DVI labelled port on the Samsung.

if its a samsung set the screen size to just scan ........ that any better?

The issue at present I believe is that the HDMI out at present is showing at the same resolution as the screen even if it is a 1080p file. This will alledgedly be sorted in a future update.

What does hdmi out do on the transformer, is it full desktop mirroring or only used by some apps?

currently it will always output 720p, asus has stated it will be fixed in a future update.

Its full mirroring, so what ever you do on the tablet is mirrored on the TV.

Hdmi mirroring

Has anyone tried hdmi mirroring on their Charge? I was curious as to how well it plays video and/or does it have enough power to play 720p.
Beamed from my MB810.
Yes, I tried the HDMI mirror mode and it was great. With mirror mode it shows you what screen is on your phone and diplayed on the TV.
I some videos from my Droid and played couple of them in mirror mode and was pixelated but I played videos taken from my DC and it played great. I tried out pictures I have and those where awesome.
What resolution does the hdmi port output?
On my DLP HD tv and my HD projector it displays at 1080p....Looks damn good too
Are you certain the signal is 1080p? Most TVs will tell you the signal resolution with some sort of "info" button.
I ask a second time, because my understanding is that 720p is the hdmi output signal.
Thanks again.

Both my projector and my tv automatically tell you what resolution it being displayed when you switch to a different input. I am 100% sure it's 1080p as my vision is 20/20 and I can clearly read what it says. Not being a smart ass...lol..but yes it does say 1080p on both of my displays.
when you say 720p is the display output for HDMI, do you mean the device or any HDMI output. Becuase the max resolution through HDMI is 1080p. 720p can be acheived through a component output as well as HDMI and is not the max resolution of an HDMI output. But I assure you that this when my phone is hooked up to HDMI my display tells me its 1080p. If you are reading some where that the device is only able to display 720p maybe it's incorrect or maybe my displays are up converting it some how. Either way it is dispaying at 1080p.

Thanks for clarifying. I do wonder if there is some kind of up converting. I guess you would really have to run some 1080 test patterns on your TV via your Charge to see if it really does generate 1080 output and not just up converting 720..
I do understand HDMI a bit. I have read that the hummingbird CPU/GPU supports XGA resolution, which is not 1080p. I think it's 1024x768.
I was a bit skeptical when someone said it was 1080p.
So I guess the question is, is it up converting?
I'm really interesting in the Charge. I am following all the threads and discussion on desktop use of Android. Right now, CM7 is working great with the EVO in regards to desktop use (extrenal monitor, mouse, keyboard, etc), but I think it's limited to 720p per the HTC/EVO hardware.

Question on hdmi

I use Skype quite often, and I recently acquired an HDMI cable and I noticed an issue with HDMI plugged into my tv, I want to see the person I'm talking to on TV, but it shows myself on the tv, I kinda want the opossite, also I've had problems with the TV viewing the full android screen, help is appreciated. Thank you

I dont have answers to your questions but...
I think you get some cropping on android becuase the resolution of the TV and the tablet are different. If you go full screen with apps(video players) they actually pump out the 1080p resolution. Test it out... Fire up youtube search for 1080p and play it. On the tablet the little window where the video normally is but on the TV the correct 1080p resolution is played.
Check if your TV has the option for turning off overscan. If it has you will able to see the full android display on your tv without any cropping. My tv doesn't have it T_T, but I did tried on a TV that does and it worked.
Yea, that seems to be a tv issue since i tried with a different tv and it worked, but what about the skype issue, anyone have any ideas?

miracast vs hdmi cable - picture quality?

hi folks,
i am looking for a solution for sending video to my LG TV from my i9505. miracast devices like the PTV3000 look appealing (no cables!), but is the image quality (smoothness of playback etc) as good as going mhl adapter and hdmi lead?
bump. anybody got any comments about picture quality with miracast vs hdmi cable?

Search in this forum there is already a thread with a video review about the ptv3000

I have both and can speak directly about their performance differences. I'm using my s4 as a Citrix client for work, and via the miracast, smaller 12 point font is pixelated and unreadable. It looks like the actual resolution of the wireless adjusts between 960 and 720 lines of resolution, and never goes to actual 1080. There is also about a full second of delay to the video signal so doing anything interactive is a bust.
The wired adapter is an impressively clear full 1080p with very minimal lag, but the adapter is awkward and you must be plugged in. Even at that, unless you are using the factory charger or one that you can set to 2 amps, you will lose overall battery in this scenario, even with the device screen turned all the way down. You cannot turn it off and continue to run the hdmi display unless you are rooted, and I haven't had a chance to go there yet.

buji thanks for the feedback. Think I'll go for the mhl adaptor. I don't want to compromise picture quality.

[Q] HDMI output very low resolution

Hi,
I've had the shield a while and I have been trying to start using the console mode, however when I use it on my LG 42" TV in the living room as soon as I go into console mode it has loads of graphical errors and this is due to it running at 1920x1082. So I thought I would try it on my Dell 2407WFP which can go up to 1920x1200, I had to purchase a DVI adapter for this to work, it works fine in both console mode and normal mode however the resolution is very low only 640x480, is this caused by HDCP at all? Or is there something else I can do to fix this, its really annoying me now.
Thanks in advance for any help

It's the cinema 3d LED TV, 42LM5800. It ran @ 1920x1080 (1080P) on both my LG and sharp TV. Yet to test my Vizio TV but I'm sure there wont be any problems there either. I'm betting it's probably the cable. I tried an offbrand one on my xbox 360 and it would only work on 720p, and even then the picture didn't look quite right. I switched it out with another cable and it bumped up to 1080, tried using the cheapo again and it wouldnt work at all on my 360 at that point, however it did work just fine on my wife's laptop. I also had a cheapo for my acer a100 tab, and it worked for a couple weeks then just crapped out on me. If you could i would try finding another HDMI cable to use and eliminate the possibility of it being the one you bought.
When you plug in your HDMI cables does your shield recognize it and attempt to switch to console mode?
Sorry for OT guys, but I need to ask and don't want to start a new thread for this sole reason.
I am willing to buy the Shield and use it as an android living room PC, connected via HDMI to a 40" 1080p TV. When I connect the devices, will the Shield output in 1080p a will it basically mirror the screen onto the TV? Because that's what I want - mirroring the device on a 1080p TV.
Thanks

It's a 5-pin or a 10-ping mhl cable? it has to be 10-pin for the tab s, and later phone models like Galaxy s3/4/5, Galaxy notes etc...
I ordered one last week and it's working fine, but the output is not 1080p... well it is per se, but the contents are not stretched to fill the whole 16:9 frame.
To display apps, photos, etc it might be OK, but when playing back videos which are 16:9 (like 720/1080p) it's annoying not being able to watch [email protected] frame. I only messed around 10/15 minutes, so I hope it can be forced/fixed somehow. Anyone?
I am using a ptv3000 wifi hdmi adapter, had same problem.
Used screen resolution changer (linking restriction... ) 'com.nomone.resolution_changer'
I set the res to 1750w x 3100h x 320 dpi
It messes up the notification pull down a bit but it did work just harder.
Use BS Player to fix the audio offset but think that is just a problem with the WiFi hdmi screen sharing.
