Hi,
I've had the shield a while and I have been trying to start using the console mode, however when I use it on my LG 42" TV in the living room as soon as I go into console mode it has loads of graphical errors and this is due to it running at 1920x1082. So I thought I would try it on my Dell 2407WFP which can go up to 1920x1200, I had to purchase a DVI adapter for this to work, it works fine in both console mode and normal mode however the resolution is very low only 640x480, is this caused by HDCP at all? Or is there something else I can do to fix this, its really annoying me now.
Thanks in advance for any help

It's the cinema 3d LED TV, 42LM5800. It ran @ 1920x1080 (1080P) on both my LG and sharp TV. Yet to test my Vizio TV but I'm sure there wont be any problems there either. I'm betting it's probably the cable. I tried an offbrand one on my xbox 360 and it would only work on 720p, and even then the picture didn't look quite right. I switched it out with another cable and it bumped up to 1080, tried using the cheapo again and it wouldnt work at all on my 360 at that point, however it did work just fine on my wife's laptop. I also had a cheapo for my acer a100 tab, and it worked for a couple weeks then just crapped out on me. If you could i would try finding another HDMI cable to use and eliminate the possibility of it being the one you bought.
When you plug in your HDMI cables does your shield recognize it and attempt to switch to console mode?
Sorry for OT guys, but I need to ask and don't want to start a new thread for this sole reason.
I am willing to buy the Shield and use it as an android living room PC, connected via HDMI to a 40" 1080p TV. When I connect the devices, will the Shield output in 1080p a will it basically mirror the screen onto the TV? Because that's what I want - mirroring the device on a 1080p TV.
Thanks

I got a female mini hdmi to female hdmi adapter and an hdmi cable and hooked up to my TV. I got a notification on the Xformer and full black screen on the TV at times. Then I got 'Not Support!' on my Vizio 37 inch.
Then I tried hooking it to a BenQ 24" which again causes the notification in the transformer, but no output at all. The screen just shows blue.
I then tried the same mini hdmi adapter hdmi cable combination on my Canon camcorder and it worked perfectly. I tried swapping the HDMI cable with the one in use on my TV and that didn't help.
Is there any chance this is a cheap hdmi-mini hdmi adapter issue since the Xformer is detecting the plug in? Should I make a try of buying another one? Anyone get a cheap cable / adapter anywhere that you got working really well preferably with a Vizio?
Thanks in advance!
Same issue. No luck on my plasmas but my lcds work just fine
Both the tv and the screen I tried out were lcds. Should I try buying a mini to full hdmi cable? This is a major issue for me since i was planning to get rid of the broken screen notebook now connected to my TV and use the tablet to play web video.
Let me clarify. When i said not working on two TVs that is all the TVs i have. I haven't gotten an output to anything so far. But the tablet is detecting when i plug in the mini hdmi adapter.
I'm getting the same problem on a DLP HDTV... my archos tablet did output, but not the TF... I also get a connection notification in Honeycomb.

Interesting...
My Panasonic plasma did not work either, but my Vizio LCD in the bedroom did.
So is this a software issue? If it works on one TV, it must work on another...

Mine worked OK with our Samsung LCD TV, don't suppose that really helps you much but thought I'd mention it.
I have a mini hdmi to full hdmi cable and it refuses to work with my Panasonic Viera plasma, but works fine on a cheap no-name LCD. Not quite sure why
Works fine on my LG E2770V. I will try it out on my Panasonic 50" G10 and respond back.
I tried again with the same mini to full hdmi converter but with a different HDMI cable. It works but grainy as hell and way overscanned, and failed as soon as I tried playing videos. I think the extra adapter and making an extra connection point is not helping. I have ordered another single piece cable with good reviews from Amazon.
Well this is bittersweet... It's good to see I'm not alone having these issues with HDMI connection.
I bought the appropriate cable yesterday (Monstercable) and hooked it up when I got home. The TF had no problem recognizing that it was connected, but the popup notification cannot be clicked. My Sony Bravia 47" is also not recognizing the connection as I cannot switch the input to the one plugged into the TF.
I can only assume this is a software issue and will be fixed (hopefully) with a FOTA.
Does anyone have any suggestions or is there any way to get ASUS to weigh in on this issue. One of the many reasons I went with the TF was because of its HDMI output capabilities. The little popup that asks to display TF screen on the TV is a HUGE tease!!!!
At what resolution does the TF output?
Is this possible that some TV do not support that resolution?
My adapter is on its way from HK. Hopefully it will work with my TVs.
Just another confirmation that my Eee Pad outputs to my Sony Bravia LCD just fine, but refuses to output at all to my Panasonic Viera LCD... Annoyingly I bought the cable for the Viera!
Here's Asus' smart a$$ reply, which gives no solution to our problem:
Thank you for contacting ASUS Customer Service.
The resolution would be limitted to 720P,that's design of Andriod.
Wish you good luck! I do appreciate for your feedback!

I should point out that my TV supports up to 1080i, so this really shouldn't be a problem. I would have appreciated more help from their tech support :/

I just recently purchased a mini hdmi adapter to hdmi adapter from mono price. I tired connecting the cable to my TV and I get no response from either the TV or the TF. I have a Panasonic Vierra Plasma. Shouldn't I at least get some kind of notification on the TF? Is there something I should enable first that I am missing?

I did not have to enable anything on the TF. You should see a notification icon on th TF when you connect the hdmi cable.
You can try this:
Connect the cable to the TV.
Turn on the TV and swith to the correct input.
Connect the other end of the cable to the TF.
You should see a notification on the TF, and picture should show on the TV.
I purchased this adapter from monoprice, and I cannot get a picture to show up on an external monitor.
I've tried a samsung which is 1920x1200 and a dell that is 1920x1080. Neither monitors detect a signal.
The cable and adapter work with my phone (LG G2X - tegra 2 based); but the picture is 800x480.
has anyone got this to work, and if so, was there a trick to it?
On my old prime I used a micro HDMI adapter a HDMI cable then a HDMI to dvi and that worked. Not sure about the infinity though
Your monitor also has to support the resolution that the Infinity outputs at (1920x1080 60hz). I have two wide screen LCD Monitors and one supports this resolution and the other does not.
My dell support 1080p natively, and my samsung supports it via scaling. I have used the same cable and adapter to hook up my tegra 2 based phone running 2.3.4. It will output 1080p when playing back a 1080p movie using hardware acceleration. It works with both monitors. The TF700 does not. I'm wondering if maybe it's an ICS thing (or a TF700 version of ICS)
Hmm, did you try turning off the 3D output?

toggling 3d has no effect.
I read that if you leave the tablet on the 3d menu for a few seconds it will toggle the scaling mode on the external display. Again, the monitors just say "no signal".
The hdmi out to an hdmi device ( I tried a TV and a projector ) works great. It just doesn't work over DVI.
I have a theory that this is a HDCP issue. That my hdmi-dvi adapter doesn't support it. I've ordered a new cable that I understand does specifically support HDCP. I report back if it works.

Just so you know, the cable is blissfully ignorant of any HDCP being transferred over it since it's an end-to-end encryption. The two devices being connected together needs to be HDCP compliant, the cable just transfers the data, whether they're encrypted or not.
You're right that it might be a HDCP issue though, but I don't see how a cable can cause that (unless it's a bad cable, that is). HDCP incompatability (in lack of a better word) isn't all uncommon, sadly. HDCP is an abomination and should be killed, preferrably with lots of fire.

A different cable did not solve the problem. As I type this, I have my PS3 connected to my samsung (1920x1200 ) playing in slightly stretched 1080p mode using the same cable that I bought for the TF700.
the PS3 is undoubtedly enforcing HDCP. It plays games and movies at full resolution.
so, I think that's it. the TF700 just does not work over DVI.
I recently received an HDMI to Micro-HDMI cord, and was excited to test it on my 37" Panasonic.
I have tried every combination of turning on and off the TV/Tablet first etc...and it STILL will not show up on my TV. It's acting like there is nothing connected at all. No prompts.
So...what am I doing wrong? The cord I bought was 3 bucks on Amazon, so it may be a knock off or something. Buy a new cord? Any help is appreciated. Half the reason I bought this thing was to watch movies on my hdtv.

My micro HDMI cord only worked on my LG when I first selected the input on my TV and then unplugged and plugged the HDMI cord back into the Infinity. Also make sure the cord is plugged ALL the way in.
When I played NetFlix on the tablet, the TV would display the video and sound, but the closed captioning stayed on the device.

I bought a Micro HDMI to HDMI cord on amazon for about 3 dollars also, it worked perfectly fine on my 42inch LCDTV Panasonic. All I had to do was connect it and change the input on the TV to the right HDMI and it worked fine. Although watching movies with subtitles didn't work so well as the subtitles was left at the tablet screen, and I couldn't turn the tablet screen off while watching movies on my TV.
when you plug in the HDMI cord, the TF700 should show some kind of "HDMI" noticifation, and will stay on when connected. If you're not seeing this, then you'll need to figure out if it's the cord or HDMI port on one of your devices. The TV, hook something else to it that used HDMI. The cord, try another cord. Monoprice has them cheap too; probably like $5 with shipping. If you're not seeing the HDMI notification after the cord, and you know they cord is good, it's your TF.

same her it works on my monitor but i have Panasonic tv and it doesn't work tried a variety of cables and no go but tried on a Toshiba TV at parents and it works.i had the prime and it work just fine
Asus really needs to add some HDMI scaling options to the TF700 to allow it to work with more TV's - I'm assuming these issues are because the TF700 only seems to output at it's native resolution, which most devices don't seem to like... I'll do some testing with my Toshiba 1080p TV today, just to see what I can find out as well and report any findings that may be useful.

I've connected the TF700T to be Panasonic 55TV50 Plasmass HDTV and to a Vizio 16" LCD TV. No issues.

Our 58 inch Samstung plasma only sees the tablet connection on HDMI 3 which is the recommended port for a monitor hook up from a pc.

There is a HDMI encryption called HDCP that basically makes it more annoying to use HDMI than it should. Some TV's do not have HDCP enabled. Since the Infinity FORCES HDCP chances are whats happening is the TV doesnt know what to do with the encrypted signal and the tablet doesnt want to play nice so the TV will work.
Unfortunate for you, im guessing your TV is not compatible. Sorry for the bad news mate.
There have also been problems with people trying to use HDMI - DVI adapters and connect into DVI monitors, since a lot of (older) DVI devices also dont support HDCP or sometimes the connector itself doesnt have the right connections to make HDCP work often it all just doesnt work properly. Maybe in time there will be a hack to disable HDCP, until then theres not much you can do.

Again pileot... HDCP has NOTHING to do with it. Find me a monitor/tv that does have HDMI that does not have hdcp enabled..... they don't exist anymore.
If it has HDMI... then chances are 99.999999% that you have an HDCP compliant monitor.

DVI will not work because the 5v signal that is needed for the monitor to recognize that something is connected to it-- is not sent with our tablets.
Seems this question is repeated as soon as it falls off the first page......
Hi.
I thought on sharing my findings on how i solved getting my infinity to work with my led-tv.
I have tried all kind of stuff before this but i have a stubborn samsung that doesn't want to recognize the tab.
I got some tips from within xda that infinity lacks the 5v for hdmi out so the tv can sence that something is hocked up.
i bought a Andersson HDMI Switch 4x1 that has a poweradaptor to try this out.
It wasn't an easy go by just hooking things up.
so i tried hocking my laptop up to the switch and got the picture on the tv, then i connected the tab on the second hdmi port and the infinity recognized that the hdmi was attached, i tried to switch ports with the remote to the hdmi switch but that failed, so i disconnected the cable to the laptop and VOILA i got the tv to show the tablets screen on the TV screen, i can now scale the picture and everything works great.
If i leave the switch powered on and connected to the tv i can connect and disconnect the tab without problems.
If i power of the switch i have to go through the same procedure again to fool the tv to recognize that samething is hooked up to the hdmi port.
Hope this helps some of you with the same problem and stubborn tv sets.
Best regards

Weird. I have a powered monoprice HDMI switch connected to a Denon Receiver, which connects to my Sony TV. I've had no problems with the TF700 Infinity being recognized. I also took the Infinity on a cruise and connected it to a Samsung 720p LCD TV with no problems. I believe that this would discount the theory that the Infinity doesn't have the right HDMI signal/voltage.
I assume that you tried changing HDMI cables? Perhaps the TF700 that you have has a defective HDMI port.

That was my first guess but after i read here on xda that even the cables can be defective i bought one more, then i tried different manifactures LG and philips lcd-tv worked with the infinity without problems, so i guess i have a tv that is too new. Yes i know, i think its weird to, but i think its the 5v issue that my samsung model don't sence.
On the LG i have to change hdmi port with the remotecontrol to the tv for it to work or power it down and up again otherwise its not working. On the samsung lcd on my work i have no problems at all but it is older tv models. If i could get hold of some other tv model that anyone here have problems hooking up the infinity with i would be happy to try this solution and see if it works.

Hi
I Bought sm t800 3 days ago. I supposed that since t800 supports mhl I can connect my tablet to my lcd monitor and ı can handle my daily work by using teamviewer app.
I get two diffferent mhl cables however when you connect t800 to monitör the screen is very blurr. If you play a video there is no problem crystal clear.
But if you want to use tablet as a pc which is connectted to monitör the resolution not allowed to work properly.
I also connect tablet three diffrent monitör result is same. Finally I begin to think that mhl works for only playing video if you wanna use tablet like pc hdmi way you should by an android tablet which has special port for hdmi.
When searach for this subject I found an app screen settings that allows you to adjust hdmi screen resolution but it requires root.
Any one has same issue and solution without root.
Thanks
Finally I found a solution.
If you have original mhl 3.0 cable then screen is good. But still cannot chanfe resolution
It down scales resolution to the HD screen, which results in some blurr.
