CyanogenMOD Torrent Mirrors - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Hi XDA,
ive just setup a torrent mirror for most cyanogenmod roms today, its far from complete because the mirror network is currently down but i though i could help a few with this mirror.
the address for the torrent-files is: http://torrent.crystalnet.eu/torrents/ server is located in fr with my seedbox sitting behind every torrent (1gbit) so they should spread pretty fast which ensures high download speeds.
if any of you have download links to more recent CM-Mod roms please provide me with a download link and i will add.
all other roms will come once the cyanogenmod websites are up again

Greetings from Germany

ALL ROMs should be available via torrent. What is the point of using these annoying upload sites that limit your bandwidth and/or drop connections if you're using the "free" feature. Why don't other ROMs go up on torrents? I for one welcome your torrents even if I'm not downloading any of them!

Thanks for your effort! Somehow, the link doesn't work anymore, but I've generated a bunch of torrents myself... for CyanogenMod releases and nightlies.
See > http://cmtorrent.inportb.com/ < enjoy!
The torrent-bot runs a few times a day, so it should pick up the latest nightlies without too much delay.

Host Roms on Torrents

I'm sure almost all of you will agree with me when i say rapidshare sucks! and by rapidshare I also mean the rest of the rapidshare-like sites (4sites, mediafire, megaupload, etc) ... and its a pain to use them to download roms, especially if there are multiple version roms (lite, full, cube, etc) and you want to get more than one (I'm not cheap or anything, but if I have to give money to download the files [referring to websites' premium account, etc], I'd rather donate the money to the rom-cookers for their hard work)
and I think most of us are familiar with torrents by now ... I searched the forum, and i don't think it has been suggested or brought up before ... but how about having a torrent setup for the roms ...
There are a lot of people (including me ) who are willing to help and share as much as possible ... ideas/comments/suggestions ?
p.s. I hope this isn't against any rules ... correct me if I'm wrong
Well, the problem with torrents is that they have to be on all day or at least until they get an ample amount of seeders so they can stop hosting it. There is a lot of people that have a limited connection and that would make it worse. For those of us who have good internet connections, and can host torrents, then this would be a good idea, but some people cant. Unless they get help from people who have good internet connections.
I've posted most of the files on my site..
http://f1ip.net/Downloads/KaiserFiles
.. and torrent sucks.
I wouldnt download these from a torrent, or anyone elses site other than the authors published links.
How do I know you haven't tampered with it prior to uploading it??
Maybe if the cooks list the MD5 for each release, then I *might* be tempted.
What if xda-devs set up a private tracker?
My torrent client is always running on my pc at home only for private trackers. its not worth having a bunch of leachers and hit and runners if they were hosted on public torrent sites.

I like torrents but still... here my link to the files.... see my signiture:
guys ... use 4shared.com ... no wait ... 5gb ... only max 100mb file limit!
If I am at home well supported torrents are MUCH faster. I think torrents would be a great idea and an MD5 is easy enough to generate.
4shared.com is one of my favorite download sites used on here. It works well when I am at work or on someone else's network that doesn't have the ports set up for bittorrent. But I have never seen the speeds from 4shared.com that I get from bittorrent.
I have flashed a LOT of roms on the forums and the worst thing for me is when rapidshare says "Wait another hour to download". I can tell you that I would seed the ROMs
Just my 2 cents
why
My internet sucks, my wife is always angry that I am here and not talking to her, personally I would like for you all to only host files any place that the cook would like. Really it is up to them. This is a good idea though.
This way I can stare at XDA even longer waiting for the new rom to be placed on my phone.
tilt
Rom..dualtouch v4
radio 1.27.15.32

gave to my wife
now it is a cute paper wait
No torrents for me. I tried downloading a previous ROM from one and it took two hours versus a very quick download with the free rapidshare or megaupload...
(384K DSL)
Just about anything other than rapidshare is better. Latest ones I've used are 2shared.com and 4shared.com. Also Sendspace isn't too bad.
I used to put roms up on Torrents via piratebay and had a box that I left online to seed them. Problem was I saw people pulling, but nobody else was seeding. So the only way torrents will work is if you get others that are willing to pull and share, and not just pull.
why cant you post it on usenet and make a nzb file out of it so anyone can download it fast with grabbit or something and just post the nzb file here thatway people like mfrazzz dont have to seed endlessly and everyone can download the rom fast

I second this idea!
It's been a while since I patroled the NNTP servers... is there an appropriate group for posting these type of files?
start a new group alt.binairies.xda.kaiser??? for our roms or alt.binairies.xda for all roms posted on this site like the ftp sever before microsoft bashed it
use this forum for nzb posting and the usenet for all the pars and rars so people only need to install a newsreader and download a nzb file not search for all the pars rars manually
keep the acces to the usenet group closed for cookers only so that not anyone can subscribe to the group
the only thing the cookers have to do is upload the file's to the group and create a nzb post it in the forum and everyone is happy
I think torrents are much better idea.
But the tracker should be in xda site and accessible only to registered members of the forum.
If everyone will keep the golden rule of 1.1 ratio, then there are no problems and It will be much better that all free upload sites. rAPIDHSARE sux...
Whatever the case is I think its worth a try...
Great Idea! Also, have a point system based on the ip you use most on here, so when ever you don do your share you loss points and a certain amount of points is required to download certain things! If you cant seed for certian reasons then you will be the excpetion? Eh, good idea?

Torrents, a bunch of mirrors, mirrored mirrors and all sorts of things have been discussed in the past. None of them got past the talk stage. If/when they have, they've been completely *OWNED* by the bandwidth usage.
There are hundreds of people downloading these files and you'll be lucky to have a 100:1 ratio for seeding vs. downloading. That means that everyone will get around 2KB/s each, 7x to 21x slower than the typical 15 to 45KB/s download from RapidShare or MegaUpload.

Torrents are really only good for 1gb files and up.
Torrents would work fine if it was done on a credits-based system with a private tracker (private meaning you must create an account, not invite only - could be tied together w/forum accounts)
The tracker would enforce at least a 1:1 ratio beyond the first 'free' download, and in the case a torrent gets orphaned the tracker could also hold a local mirror of the files, so when seeds becomes < 1, it kicks on as a seed and finishes at least one person off to keep the torrent alive..
As far as torrents being only really good for 1gb files and up, that holds true for public torrents, but on a private credit based system, arbitrary sizes work fine
Plus people in general have a fixation with making a number grow larger and larger, so a credit-based system has it's own built in motivational driver. It's the basis for most video games out there! (score, xp, level, etc!) You could even give each forum user a special icon or access to a custom tagline, etc. depending on their current level of credits, for another motivational driver to keep seeding up.

Android Rom Database Site

This is a little side project i created to help the android community with hosting and redistribute android roms.

Good Job !!
Thanks i just got it working yesterday and it takes alot of time to upload the rom so its a slow start
liked the site, had a couple of suggestions. would be nice if users had the option to sort the roms by certain criteria such as by date or by which android build the rom is based off of. keep up the good work.
Im slowly working on that i have never used joomla before so im learning about tags and such. Please keep the suggestions comming any comments are welcome
Looks good!

[Q] File hosting and downloads

I may have missed something in rules or just not understand but
Is there any reason why their aren't torrents set up for ROM downloads, given the number of users using some of the ROMs it seems a torrent could download them very quickly?
Torrents require seeder, it doesn't make sense to expect people will seed older versions of roms.
Also most roms don't have a large enough user base for torrents to be viable.

[recommendation] Torrents? We need them!

There are so many great ROM's here in the Verizon Galaxy S3 community. This afternoon I tried to download 3 of these ROM's, but all their links are down. Finally I found one that was working, but the download speeds are terrible. It took me 30 minutes to download a 600 MB file, which should only have taken 5.
If we move to torrents, download speeds of 2 MB/s per second can be achieved on a moderate internet connection, and would be even faster on a good connection. It would take all the pressure off all the servers and we would never have to worry about anything servers being down.
I have extra bandwidth on my internet and I could host torrents for all the developers that are willing to do this. I would update the torrents daily to the developers latest builds and link them in a thread.
My final idea is that I could create an official STICKY thread in the ANDROID DEVELOPMENT section with a link to all the developers torrents. This would be an easy and quick way of gathering everyone's work into one thread with fast downloads. At the beginning of the guide I would have a link to another thread I have created, explaining how to set up torrents and use them to our more inexperienced users in this area. This guide would be detailed containing pictures and easy steps to follow.
If anyone else thinks that an official thread containing all the willing developers ROM's in torrent for is a good idea to have, which I would update daily, please give me your opinion.
Thanks,
CUBUS

Bitdroid - Dedicated Android ROM Torrent Tracker

Bitdroid - Home | Bitroid - Tracker | Bitdroid - Forum
Introducing Bitdroid! The dedicated torrent tracker for Android ROMs!
After a couple of weeks of trial-and-error, I have finally got a torrent tracker site setup and running for Android ROM developers; a place for them to create and track a torrent for their ROMs.
Why use a torrent tracker like Bitdroid.org versus regular download links? Easy: better flow of download traffic, which equates to faster downloads!
Peer-2-Peer, or P2P, (torrents in this case) are better for high-flow traffic compared to normal HTTP (sites like Mediafire) or FTP. In HTTP or FTP, users can only download, and it's only from a single server. The more people downloading a file from a single server, the slower the download for everybody on that server requesting the same file. This is not the case for P2P connections. Every user that's downloading, downloads from another user. All of the users download are also uploading to other users, so the traffic is not coming from a single source. It is coming from many sources, alleviating slow downloads, enabling higher traffic. P2P is a much superior way to distribute large files (such as Android ROMs).
So where did this idea come from? After the release of several popular ROMs, I saw people complaining about slow download speeds, and having to upload to several different download mirrors for others to download at a fast pace again, until those became "clogged" for a while as well. P2P, as previously mentioned, would have alleviated this and reduced (or even eliminated) the need for several HTTP / FTP mirrors. HTTP download links could still be provided, but torrent links could also be provided to help alleviate high traffic, congested downloads.
P2P also allows tracking and stats of an individual download. Each file is tracked by the amount of seeders (people uploading), leechers (people downloading), and total downloads.
I've searched, and I couldn't find a dedicated torrent tracker for Android ROMs; I could only find trackers for general use, or other specific uses (movies, games, etc.), of which not all of these are completely safe due to concern of possible copyrighted content. With Bitdroid, only Android ROMs are allowed, and it is preferred that the original developer of the ROM uploads the file (or with permission from the developer, a 3rd-party user could upload the ROM). Since Android is open-source, there aren't any legal concerns of piracy and such due the open-source licensing of the Android OS.
For an added layer of "security" only an approved member group is allowed to upload files. You must be manually added to the group before being able to upload torrents, to try and further discourage potential piracy or unauthorized uploading of ROMs.
I currently have a splash-page setup, that links to the actual tracker, as well as a forum (work-in-progress).
If you're a developer or know a developer, please sign up on the torrent tracker and/or forum and I can get you setup to upload your torrents, and don't forget to spread the word!
If you have any questions or comments, please either post here or on the website! Come and check it out!
Note: I have permission from YZ to post this.
Bump. Got mixed reviews in the Rezound forum about this; not much response from Dev's yet (which is what I would like the opinion of as well).
I think this is awesome!

BRING IT ON! I'll seed like a mofo!!!
Always been intrigued why no Android ROM developer uses torrent technologies... Even on questionable tracker as Pirate Bay (Yes, you can find legal stuff there ^^).
Now there is no excuse ! With this tracker, we can download almost eyes closed. And now, every body can help, even if no developer, even without giving money. Let's seed !
I'll warm up my seed box this evening !
we can only say you THANK alot and good job . but one thing ..
it is for every Rom ( custom and shipped rom ) or just rom leaked by private developers ?
ps : I haven't paypal from me ( Country's restricted ) , sure I would donate you some $$ ...
awesome news !
guys pay alot for hosting 300mb allinone roms on their hosting , torrent solution rocks!

The idea is good, however i think having a ratio system on the site will do it more harm than good.
Unless you download the rom soon after its uploaded your probably going to struggle to seed it back, especially if its from a developer who updates the rom every couple of days. I think its very unlikely someone would download the older version once the next build is out.
Wow, my site made the front page news! Awesome .

It's for any ROM. There's categories for stock ROMs, custom ROMs (from developers), or 'Other' (for kernels or something like that). I can always add more categories as well if anybody has suggestions!

I've disabled ratio restrictions on the site. Where did you find that tidbit at? Was it in the rules/FAQ? If so, that's just because I haven't really had any time to update that at all, due to classes starting up again.
Worry not, ratio is not a concern (but sharing what you download always looks good ).
if so it's better thank once more .

If you're trying through the forum, try registering through the tracker instead. Another user PM'd me with a similar error I believe, and he was trying to go through the forum.
Alright, sorry about the issues registering on the forum guys. There was a conflicting option turned on that I missed when setting up the forum.
It should be working now for registration.
