Sudden loss of mobile network - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
Ever since I got this phone, the mobile network is lost all of a sudden. Need to restart to get the signal back. Even at the same spot it lost.
Anyone facing the same issue and any fixes for the same would be appreciated.

Same thing with me, normally happens when the signal is lost from being out of range. Then signal just doesn't come back unless I reboot.

Same thing here on stock 2.3.2
Reboot gets it back so I don't know what was the original cause. I have just upped to 2.3.4 manually so I will report back if it happens with this new version.

Two days on 2.3.4 (non rooted) and have not noticed the previous problem yet. Does not mean it has gone away yet LOL
(no I didn't post this at 3:00am - I am on GMT +8)

Im still Running 2.3.3, Will be updating soon.

Network connection problems?

Hi all,
A few days ago I noticed my data connection lags and it takes a while until tha up and down arrow start blinking under the H indicator.
Sometimes it is fine.
Also several times I noticed in an are with 4 bars my connection would drop completely, shie no bars and show a little x instead and then a minute or two later it would come back. Tried factory reset, did not help...
Does anybody know what is going on?
I have done the true perma root and unlock as posted in the development sticky.
I also removed some bloatware which do not come back when I do a factory restore. Not sure if that matters though or of it is related.

Are you running the stock rom? I'm guessing so. If you went through and deleted a bunch of stuff you very easily could have deleted something you didn't want to.
I would suggest grabbing the stock nandroid restore from the thread in the development section and going back to a clean install. See if that helps.

im not rooted and i have the same issues. Going from full bars to nothing and then it lights back up. I assume it has something to do with the tower its connected to
Sometimes I only get phone call reception and no data,I call T-Mobile and they say I'm not in a 4g area, but for the past months I've been here and get the 4g full signal..this only happens like twice a month.its a big problem with their towers.

I'm sure it's a radio issue. Happens to mine and my roommates MT4Gs. And since we don't have another radio, we're kind of SOL there.
I've had my mt4g since they dropped, and it's only started doing this to me recently... when it happens, I go to the APN's and reset to default... it seeeeeeeeems to work (for a short time), but then it goes right back to sucking...
You can also just toggle airplane mode. Will bring speeds back up for a short time.

[Q] Anyone having issues with making calls?

I am not sure if this was an issue with before i was rooted or not because I didn't have it long before i rooted it. But when i try to place a call it doesn't go through and have to retry repeatedly and sometimes have to reboot and that usually doesnt help. I also miss calls and sometimes am not able to send a text.
Does this sound like a phone issue or a network issue?
I am using D!!la rom with the latest stable radio.
I bet network. Does it say network busy when trying to call out?

I just reflashed the stock radio and seems to be working better now. Will post back if not.

Usually a reboot fixes that. It happened to me and rebooting fixed it.

Can't regain signal without restarting

Completely stock phone... I never messed with it from day 1.
So here's the thing... everytime I take a subway and after the get out from underground the phone never regains the 4g data icons... the signals are there but it doesnt let me browse the web or use any apps that require a data signal.
Restarting the phone solves the problem...
But at work everytime I go to the basement and come out.. I completely lose the signal and do not automatically regain it once I'm out on the street... this made me miss many calls and incoming texts... I also switched my sum card 2 weeks ago for the newest 4g Sims... it helped for about 2 days.. but now same thing happens all over again..
Any tips?

Try toggling flight mode on then back off.

Did that... it rarely works... but either way... its not good when a phone can't regain a signal... because its in my jeans the whole time... and I get a lot of missed calls due to that... its horrible.
Does anyone else experience this problem with their galaxy s?

If its completely stock I would call in the warranty.

If you've always been using stock, then you should try your hand at flashing GB.
Try out some new modems too. It might solve your problem.

Signal dropping then coming back

I'm on T-Mobile here in the US. Not sure if anyone else is having issues. I've had my phone since the 6th. Up until yesterday it's all been perfect. Now every now and then the service just drops to "no service" followed by "emergency calls only" then finally comes back to normal. When I have signal, it's good. 4-5 bars. The drops are random. I'm stock + root.
Anyone else having problems?
Same thing is happening with Rogers

Hmmm... I have tried a couple ROMs but none lasted long enough without bugs to notice. I also flashed the stock image again just to be sure and it's still there.
There's an ongoing thread already on XDA:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2525583
Also, there is a thread where a rep from Google, Paul, has acknowledged the issue. Please post your issues there for them to track/investigate:

Unlocked, stock rooted, stock kernal, and I'm having the same issues. Very slow when switching from lte to 3g and back to lte, sometimes it doesn't switch back to lte. Also the loss of signal. I though if factory reset back to stock but I guess that's not the issue.

I don't think it's the networks, I think it's the hardware

According to this link:

It's a software issue.. I am getting the same thing on Rogers. I only get it after a call or when sending SMS. Frustrating issue, to put it mildly
I switched to bricked kernel my connections have been solid. Later I also switched to the Cataclysm ROM and so far so good.
I think it is a software issue.

[Q] keeps loosing phone connection

Starting a while ago my phone keeps dropping its connection (every 10 seconds) so it looks like it in airplane mode without the airplane. Empty triangle. Its not the carrier, because the my wife's S4 has the same and no problems.
I thought it could be one of the problems described here, but nothing there fixed it.
Made a screen recording of the problem here.
Has this happened to anyone else? How was it solved? If not, other suggestions?
Are you running stock or rooted or is your phone running custom software?

It started with everything stock. Trying to fix the problem I rooted it. Except for that all is still stock.
